Decided to try quarterdeck again. Paid $90 total for half a pound of shrimp, one dozen crabs, and a $5. tip for a Carryout order. They keep your order in the back. When you come in and ask for it, they go in the back to get it. They have also had the opportunity to see you. I'm going to blame it on the fact that I can't seem to get a decent seafood takeout order from this location in Arlington,, VA. The size of my order or the quality of the seafood are always an issue. I know I don't have a half a pound of shrimp. 7 shrimp. The crabs have several missing legs. They weren't crowded, but that's how they roll. So I'm going to roll on to another seafood location. PS:, The crabs and shrimp taste decent. The crabs had a lot of that yellow and orange stuff in them. I had to wash them off. I've been eating crabs for over 40 years. Very disappointed. Terrible service. Attempted to go last night and was told it would be 2.5 hours to be seated. "However, we take your reservation for tomorrow and if you come at 1:30 we can get you right in." So I did. Today, I showed up and they had multiple tables open so I thoughts this was a good sign. The hostess (same from last night) passed by all the shaded open tables and proceeded to sit me outside at a table in direct sunlight (it's hot). I said "hey no I set up the reservation with the understanding you were going to put me at a decent table". She then sat me at one of the shaded tables. I then sat there for over 15 minutes without no waiter. I got up to leave and the waiter who had passed by me multiple times said hey would you like a glass of water. I said no thanks I am leaving. He flippantly said "okay bye" Very upset. sarcastically "Happy Father's Day to me". $200 plus dollars walked out the door never to return. read more

This is a very good place to eat seafood. The crabs are always big and meaty. We have never been disappointed coming here. It's a little pricey. Well we always get the ex large or large which ever is available. The earlier you go the better because they have everything. Me and the family always enjoy. Nice out of the way location off RT 50 out of DC surprise location. Must be packed in summer. Got there warm day midweek in November and sat outside. Parking a little tricky but was OK when we went. Service was fast, polite & excellent and seating comfortable this time of year. Drinks just OK (a bit weak). Food just OK but we did not get crabs and first time there only so will update if go again. I did crab crake and mesquite shrimp dinner but not impressed. She had crab cake sandwich as recommended by server without bread and much better size and cost. She didn't like the lobster bisk soup and sent back, I ate mine but must admit too much flour and thick with an over taste of Sherry although waitress could not confirm any Sherry. A little overpriced for what served in my opinion. Overall would return late calendar year again season but prefer MD crab places more during summer. read more

I think i've been here 5? 6? times now. By far my favorite restaurant in DC (even tho it's in Arlington). I know you can get crab everywhere but something about your first crab shack yanno? I couldn't even finish them. I didn't like the coleslaw... nor did i like the soggy fries. The crab legs come with the fries and the coleslaw but they all come on the plate together so it made the fries not be crispy... i assume due to the steam off the crab legs... We got some peel and eat shrimp... they were plump and delicious!! And we got an entree with a crab cake, fried shrimp, Mac n cheese and onion rings. The Mac n cheese def needs some work. It was not good at all!! The fried shrimp were VERY oily... good flavor... but they needed to be on a paper towel or something... the onion rings, wow! Delicious... also oily... BUT delicious... and the crab cake... that deserves a chefs kiss!!! It was like no filler whatsoever... it was so yummy... Would be go back? OMG! We so enjoyed Quarterdeck! While I was in Virginia, I had to have whole crab. We took a chance on this restaurant and I'm so glad we did! When they brought the crab out and dropped them on the table, they were still steaming hot and beautiful! They were seasoned well and tasted great! We sat outside on the patio which was nice. I kept seeing this place on TikTok, and I love seafood, so my friend and I decided to give it a try. We went later in the evening so parking was not an issue, but imagine it may be in the early evening. Lots of seating outside mac and only 5-6 tables inside. I made a reservation that I wasn't able to keep, but they let me know just to walk in, and we did and was able to get a table. The server was super friendly and personable. He Checked on us just enough. I ordered the crab cake and shrimp with fries and Mac and cheese. The crab cake was pretty good, not much filler. The fries weren't crispy and the Mac and cheese was super bland. My friend ordered a half dozen medium whole crabs. He said they were good. I also had a peach margarita that was just meh. Nothing special at all. I don't know that I will visit again. Not bad, but not worth the drive for me personally. Best thing about this place is the staff. I make them on the way which I can find a time within 30 minutes from my arrival. Expect to pay though it's reasonable for a nice seafood place. It's eating crabs, don't come in a suit. The crabs are steamed to order, that takes a while depending on how busy they are. Get a good one or two. They give standard wood mallets. They probably have crackers but I didn't ask. Quarterdeck gets most everything right but it's an aggravating experience. For apps we had the hush puppies which were amazing, probably the best in the area and crab dip which comes with naan. The crab dip was pretty darn good but overpriced at $25. My main course was the fish filet, again amazing and near perfection! Wife got the lobster roll which unlike most places actually had a decent amount of lobster. Waitstaff was excellent. The bad is entry/seating and the people that just hang out there for hours on end. I got ignored trying to check in for our reservations, came back behind some other folks, and waited 5 minutes because they didn't have reservations. It also seemed a lot of the people who were chowing down before we were even seated, and stayed after we left, were just there to hangout. Fine but sitting next to people smacking hammers and their lips (jfc) gets old real fast. Quality food and good on price but one of the more annoying restaurants I've been to. I grew up eating crabs in Maryland and this place is the real deal. The crabs are the main event, of course, but the sides are also great and the crabcakes are phenomenal. I would go just for mini crabcakes and hush puppies. Call ahead for market prices, to make reservations, or to give a heads-up on crab orders. If you don't make reservations, expect to wait about 30 min for streamed crabs. They recommend 6 crabs per person. I think it's more like 4 plus lots of sides. Unless you're really fast and skilled at peeling, 6 gets tedious and you start to go into crab fatigue. In my opinion, you don't really get full on crab meat. You have to order extra stuff. Plus if you're bringing kids who will only assist in hammering claws with the mallets, you'll be spending extra time peeling their meat. So get some corn, fries, and hush puppies to tide everyone over so they don't starve. There's indoor and outdoor seating. Both are comfortable. The service is top notch.
