Went here after visiting Arlington to visit my late husband grave. It's very hole in the wall type place but they definitely put the attention on their food. I ordered the shrimp with broccoli and Mac and cheese. We also got the salmon which wasn't very full of flavor but the mashed potatoes made up for it. We just shared with the little one. I'll always crave the Mac and cheese now! When we left, I realized that I left my coffee cup behind so I called them and they had it waiting for me. I have to admit something to you. I LOVE to eat. Whew, I said it. I came to Quarterdeck with my brother and my main squeeze, my husband lol. The inside of the restaurant is small, however, the deck is quite large. If it rains, this is not the best restaurant as the small inside and the fact that only a portion of the outside is covered is not ideal for rain and would easily and quickly cause people to have to wait for an open and dry table. It started to rain while we were there, we stayed mostly dry as we were at a table with a large umbrella, but if it had been a heavier rain it may have been an issue. Anyway, we were sat and greeted by our waitress pretty immediately. We each ordered a drink and we put in a request for wings. We ordered our entree shortly after, which included a basket of fries. The wings and and fries came out first and together (I assumed the fries would come out with our entrees since that's when I ordered them). They were buffalo wings with a sweet and tangy taste, crunchy exterior and quite good. They came with celery. The fries were well seasoned, not too much or too little seasoning. Some fries were slightly crunchy and some were soft. I wish they all had been slightly crunchy. Entrees - I got the king crab legs that were touched by an angel. They were the FRESHEST king crab legs I have ever tasted. They were nicely seasoned, meaty and uber filling. These were damn good! My entree came with two sides. I got broccoli and Mac and cheese. The broccoli needed salt and butter, but was cooked well, just didn't have any seasoning. The Mac and cheese was a stovetop Mac and cheese and I quite liked it. My hubby got the grilled chicken (jerk style), fried onion rings and coke slaw. My hubby was disappointed with his chicken and said it lacked flavor; it didn't appear to be jerk style, but was cooked pretty well. He said his sides were fine. He ALWAYS eats and did not eat much of his food. My brother got the snow crab legs and thought they were great, he ate them all and ate the king crab leg I couldn't eat. He didn't really like the Mac and cheese (one of his sides). I'm not sure he even tried the fried onion rings (his other side) because he was so full. Our waitress went MIA when we were ready to get our check and leave, so we had to wait awhile for her. When she did show up, we asked her for a to-go box, which she forgot. I had a great experience at Quartereck today. I had a dozen of the medium crabs, fries, corn, & hush puppies. The crabs were surprisingly large for mediums & very meaty. I was hesitant about trying this restaurant out because of the costs, but they were absolutely worth it. The fries & hush puppies were okay, slightly over priced for $6 each. I didn't eat the corn myself but I didn't hear any complaints from his end. Our waitress was great as well. The service overall was very good. Two drawbacks.... 1. Our margaritas were SUPER weak so we switched over to beer 2. The bathrooms were AWFUL. The entire area down there smelled terrible. They were not clean & needed attention. I keep forgetting that this is in my Rosslyn backyard. Gah! It's hidden behind apartments on Fort Myer. I love that it's open late!!! 2 a.m. every night. and they have HUSHPUPPIES. yep. Get that starchy goodness. Also, their burgers are great and tasty. Order it with mushrooms and jalapeno and wash it down with their nice selection of beers. It is on the pricier side for seafood. I mean, this is still Arlington. You are not by the Bay... even though you may be transported there with all the adorable crab decor, open outdoor patio and string lights; you'll feel like you're at an imaginary seaside escape instead of this concrete office town! That in itself is magic miracle!! It's great. Crabs are usually market price (about $50 a dozen when I went in October, so not cheap). But it is good quality and the staff here are very friendly. The best crab legs I've had in a while were made here. This place is my new fave for my favorite food. The wait wasn't too bad and I didn't have a reservation. I will make one next time! Parking is TOUGH. Be prepared to cut the block a few times. Service was great and the ambience was cool. Quarterdeck almost feels like it should be on the beach! My only criticism is the uncomfortable chair. We sat outside which I was appreciative of without a reservation. This place would be stellar if the seating was more comfortable. I love Elena. I dislike Will. When I asked Will if I could use a charger so I could get my Uber he said he didn't have one. I then jokingly said that my server said he did have one but (not said) that he was being a jerk and wouldn't let her use it. She said I might have better luck so I went to the bar to order two shots and ask for ten minutes on the charger and the bartender flat out said said "no" after lying about having a charger in the first place and told me to go next door. I was pleasant and smiled the whole time. He was rude. Just because the place sells great crabs doesn't mean the bartender has to literally embody a crab. Anyway, I went next door to the mart and I totally recommend going there before the bar at quarterdeck (if Will is present) bc the ppl there are much more hospitable. I went to buy a charger and the guy just offered to charge my phone for me. Long story short...Bartender sucked and had a CRABBY ;) personality--I used to bartend and I get hospitality can be frustrating but be nice-ish. Elena, our server had all the personality in the world and I really did appreciate her and her kindness. Will (the guy with the charger up his butt, that can't lend a hand to a paying customer who comes there regularly with friends and family) I'd pass on his services 1000%...if you can even call any bar experience with him a service. My family lives down the street and we go there often. I'll make it a point not order from him ever again...and I'll tip in cash so my servers get the majority of their money and the curmudgeon Will gets no more tip out from them than is required. Hopefully Quarterdeck doesn't let that guy leave the bar bc he'd just stink up the whole dining experience. This is a crab shack, if you get the things that are generally good at a crab shack - blue crab, hush puppies, peel 'n eat shrimp, crab cakes, crab dip, corn on the cob, crab soup - you won't be disappointed. Things to note: in the summer weekend reservations are a must; they have crabs year round, but summer is crab season so they're local and fresh; king crab is not from local waters, but it's up to you if you want to order them. I can't speak to the prices, it's seafood which is always on the pricier side regardless of ambiance. It's actually of the beaten path and I'd suggest calling before actually arriving to ensure they have exactly what your taste buds require. When we arrived last night there weren't any crabs which is fine by me. It took a little longer than usual I suspect because there was only 1 waiter and 1 bar tender, not sure if this is normal but a star deduction. Nonetheless, my friend ordered beer and I'm not a beer drinker but I remembered a grapefruit beer I had in New Orleans and wondered if they had it. I knew that it'd be a long shot but they actually had it maybe I should add that point back. Our food arrived looking soo delicious and it was definitely delicious and worth the wait. The crab legs were pretty meaty and seasoned really well. The restroom was in the dungeon like basement but let me tell you... the bathroom was beyond clean. And the hand soap smelled sooo good. If you're reading this management, let me know the soap you all use lol #NotJoking. I must say I am pleasantly surprised. This is one of the most well-rounded crab houses I've been to in the DC metro area. Local crab houses are usually limited to Maryland blue crabs, snow crab legs, and steamed shrimp along with a handfull of sides. Quarterdeck; however, offers all of the above in addition to Dungeness crabs, mussels, po'boys, AND last but not least, crab cakes! Quarterdeck offers two broiled 4 oz lump crab cakes as a dinner entree. While it is not jumbo lump, I was far from disappointed. The crab cake was seasoned well and contained no filler at all. While accompanied with a house made tartar sauce, the crab cakes were stand alone and did not need it. My mom came here last weekend (she was in National Harbor for the wknd) and said it was to die for so we all loaded up in the car (6 of us) from Claymont, De (2.5 hour ride) and came down the following Sunday. Entrée: most of us ordered a Dozen of XL Blue Crabs. They were sooooo meaty and steamed just right! My fiancé and I come to quarterdeck all the time. It really is our go to restaurant! The food is always amazing no matter what you order and the service is amazing. Everyone is super friendly and most have been working there for years so they know the restaurant well. Some of my favorites from here are the crab cakes, the burger, whole crabs, Mac and cheese, and the clam chowder. I love taking family and friends here from out of town when they come to visit. We went to DC to visit our grandson, serving in the US Navy, assigned to JBAB. We invited him and a friend to join us for dinner. Toward the end of our meal, we were encouraged to expedite our departure because for whatever reason, out of all the four person tables at this establishment, ours was designated for the next 8:00pm reservation. The restaurant was able to accommodate us in spite of the fact we were close to an hour early. There was a high chair, kids' menu and crayons for our youngest guest. Yet, I hear the crabs are delish. I consistently order the jumbo shrimp dish (buffalo sauce on the side) with two sides. My sides vary from fries and cole slaw to mac n cheese and broccoli to all veggies. It just depends on how I'm feeling in the moment. Anyway, the shrimp is always cooked to perfection. Juicy on the inside, crisp on the outside. And of course, toss all this deliciousness back with a Port City Optimal Wit. It was my mother's birthday and she loves crabs. We surprised her. She had no idea where she was going. When we walked up to the restaurant and she saw crabs on other guest tables, she was overjoyed. My mother and sister enjoyed their steamed crabs. They were amazed at how large the crabs were and that the restaurant will take back empty crabs and give you more. The crabs were fresh, hot and well seasoned. Others in our party enjoyed their burger, shrimp po boy and fish and chips. Prices are quite expensive and the restaurant is small (need updating). My mother had a hard time going up and down the stairs to use the restroom. That needs to be addressed greatly. This is why I deducted one star. read more

The rings were cold. We both ordered lobster mac and cheese and it was bland. Not sure which cheese they used but I had to add salt and pepper. I've never done that at any other restaurant. I wanted to order a side of crab legs but was told I had to the crab leg dinner then I could order the side. Ugh. My sister order some linguine seafood dish and it had an orange cheese sauce? Very unexpected. Then came the bill. It had a 20% tip added. The website saiid a party of 5 a tip would be added. We're 4.
