Lunch at Que49 Smokehouse My wife and I had lunch at Que49 Smokehouse in Jonesboro. It is the kind of place that instantly jumps into your "must-visit" list if you love real BBQ. All of their sauces are great - Original, Hot Willie's, Vinegar Sauce, and Cranberry Cayenne. I started with the "Ultimate Reuben" and it absolutely lives up to its name! Rich, smoky beef and pork belly pastrami piled high with tangy sauerkraut, melty Swiss, and Russian dressing on perfectly toasted marbled rye. It's the kind of sandwich you plan future visits around! The Burnt Ends were textbook - tender, caramelized, and deeply smoky without being overly sweet. The Tri-Tip Sirloin was equally impressive - juicy, sliced just right, and seasoned to let the beef shine instead of hiding it under sauce. (It was a bit too chewy for my wife but I thought it was perfect!) My wife loved the Que Fries with pulled pork. Crinkle cut fries smothered in house-made cheese sauce, baked beans, green onions, and jalapeños, then topped with that beautifully smoked pork. It's over-the-top in the best possible way, like BBQ nachos leveled up. A big part of what makes Que49 special is the pedigree behind it. Owner Skip Steele is true BBQ royalty! He's the former pitmaster and patriarch of Pappy's Smokehouse, Bogart's Smokehouse, and Dalie's Smokehouse in St. Louis, all consistently ranked among the very best BBQ spots in America. I've had a lot of barbecue over the years, and Que 49 Smokehouse knows what they're doing. The brisket was tender with a real smoke flavor, not just sauce covering everything up. Came here while staying in Jonesboro overnight traveling from southeast Texas to Chicago with my wife and uncle. We all had a taste for some BBQ & came here after checking out the reviews. I live in TX but am from Chicago which is the Mecca of Great American Food, including BBQ so I have a tendency to compare BBQ to some of the great spots in Chicago. The meat was petty decent. Brisket was relatively tender & moist, not quite fatty enough for my taste, pulled pork sandwich was really good but the ribs left some to be desired; BBQ sauce was a tad too sweet to me but otherwise, ok. Unfortunately. The sides is where they really came up short to me. The baked beans were horrid, probably some of the worse I ever had. Way too much molasses, tasted like cough syrup; I ended up chucking most of it. Potato salad wasn't quite the best either. Only side that was good was the pickles & red onion. read more

Great restaurant. I met the owner as we walked in. He guaranteed me the ribs were the best ever. I ordered half slab and fries. They were not the best. Had a sweet glaze on them. Sweet flavor meat, not enough smoke flavor Imo. My personal preference is a dry rub rib and occasionally dip it in a good sauce. He asked my opinion and I politely provided it. He later came by and brought me 2 chicken wings and a burnt end. Wings were good, average. Burnt end was the best I ever had. Large group, everyone else really liked everything they tried. I spent several minutes talking with one of the family members that owns this establishment. When I told her I was a Texas boy and wondered if their beef brisket would measure up, she brought me a sample cup of their brisket burnt ends. Enough said. They were amazing. I ordered a sliced brisket sandwich and a n order of those burnt ends. These folks are not just in business, They actually love and believe in what they are doing. Went to Q in the Lou (BBQ event) in St Louis and saw the Que49 Smokehouse. They were serving fried chicken legs and thighs. They were DELICIOUS! Everyone in our group went back for seconds. The skin was crispy. The chicken was cooked perfectly- wasn't dry. They traveled to this event from Arkansas. They have a brick and motor there and offer catering. Food is fantastic. Best bbq in town hands down. Banana pudding is delicious, light and fluffy, pulled pork tender and flavorful. Service is always great! They once gave me an entire tray of pudding when my grandfather past away; was not something she had to do but something they did without the need for recognition or attention. Ambiance is similar to a slims chicken if you've ever been to one but with their own vibe. (I say that because it literally was a slims once upon a time so you'll recognize some of the decor right off the bat) but overall a cool little place. Do wish they had a bit more seating as it can sometime be hard to find seating. Also, they tend to sell out quickly (cause it's good) so if there's something on the menu you like, I suggest going early on in the week. read more

I dropped in today to try this place out. the aroma of great smoked beef filled the air. I am Texas born and raised and did not know what I would find in Jonesboro. This place did not disappoint. Excellent sliced brisket and fabulous brisket burnt ends. They offer 4 different sauces to please any palate, but the barbeque really was delicious without a sauce. It was moist and perfectly tender. I was just looking at the Top 100 BBQ places. What these rankings don't know, Que 49 Smokehouse puts All BBQ joints to Shame. I've eaten BBQ in many States, including Mo and Texas and Kansas and Alabama, Georgia, North Carolina. You name it. The food and service at The Q is unbeatable anywhere. Flavor! It's easily some of the best BBQ in Jonesboro -- which admittedly isn't saying much, as Jonesboro hasn't had any really good BBQ at all to speak of. But this new place fits the bill. Colleagues and I tried it out recently. I had a half rack of ribs with baked beans. Others at the table had salad, pulled pork sandwiches, sausage, potato salad, and wings. The ribs were fairly tender. And it was a lot! The baked beans were the best of all the BBQ places in town -- not too sweet, and fairly meaty. The chicken wings were very good; I may have to get a full order of those next time. One colleague said her salad was excellent, thanks in part to the use of pecans. She raved about it. Another colleague loved the sausage he got as aside to his ribs. Every person at the table loved the flavors all around. Nothing was bland. The sauces on the table were a cranberry pepper (was it cayenne?), a Maddie's hot, and a regular. The regular was honey- based. A very good sauce, but very sweet. The cranberry cayenne had a slow, sweet kick and a lot of flavor. I didn't try the Maddie's hot, but my friend who did said it wasn't all that hot, but it was good. Now, if you're not a fan of sweet sauces, you'll have a hard time finding a sauce you'll like. The ribs were indeed good on their own, but I found I liked them a bit more with sauce to add some more personality. As for service, you walk up in line to place your order at the counter, then have a seat where they bring your food to you. They were all friendly and attentive. My half rack of ribs, side of beans and a drink cost me $18.47. I walked out mighty full, but that price is more than I can pay for lunch. The Lunch Bunch will add this to our rotation, but it won't be very often at that price. read more

I went there because people I know were praising the brisket. Sorry, it was not my kind of brisket. I like fatty cuts of brisket that's tender and juicy. There was absolutely no fat on it, would have been tough if not cut so thin. It actually reminded me of deli meat. I was hoping it would have been like a competitor brisket about a half mile away. That said... The place was packed, with only one small table available, and the service was fast. Surprised me since I was getting my drink when they brought it to me. The sides, potato salad and bake beans were good. Portion size was worth it. The only thing I hated was they expected you to tip when you pay before getting the meal. There was absolutely no service other than bringing the food. Why should anyone tip?? In the end, I was disappointed with my visit. I love a good brisket and this was not the one. I do not recommend the place if you want a nice, juicy brisket. Will I be back, who knows, but the burnt ends does sound interesting. read more

Great food and hospitality! Pulled pork sandwich yummy with bits of burnt ends. Bun was fresh and buttery toasted. Baked beans smokey and just spicy enough. Bits of meat and a hint of sweetness. The Coleslaw is outstanding. I'm a coleslaw snob. Perfect little bits of cabbage to slather over your meat. So good makes you wanna slap your mother. I'll have to wait since I'm out of town. Next time I'm in town definitely coming here. Get there early a line forms quickly. I waited almost 30 minutes to find an Uber driver and the owner was kind enough to offer me a ride. OMG, stopped here for lunch after pulling up some lunch selections and it was fabulous! Place was hopping, had to wait a couple minutes to get a table but it was well worth it. I ordered a pulled pork sandwich and slaw and while we were waiting for the food, the owner stopped by and asked what we ordered. Told him, and he said "boring! Let me bring a little something". 2 minutes later he brings over some smoked wings and they were delicious. 2 minutes after that, he brought over a few little ribs and wow, were they good! Got our sandwiches, which were very generously loaded up with meat and I was half full! Super good place, super cool owner and I'd go back for sure. read more
