After staying away from here for 4 years, even though it's within walking distance, we decided to try it again. We used to go there every Friday for many years. Last time we were there, there were 10 of us and my granddaughter asked for extra sour cream, we were charged. It wasn't the price, it was the principle. We went again last night. Again they nickel and dime you. I asked for a tortilla so I could take the rest of my meal home, $1! We will never go back again. We go to Manuel's in Scottsdale where they always are more than happy to give you a little extra of something, no additional charge, which I seldom ask for because the portions are large enough. Have you heard of this hidden GEM in Fountian hills? #7 Beef flatas, chicken taco and Guacamole comes with beans and rice. A Mexican rice that was not over flavored or complicated, beans that were a perfect consistency. Chicken taco juicy cooked fresh and flavorful. Mmmmmm...Beef flata with all slow cooked shredded beef ONLY wrapped in a long Tortilla finished off with a mild house made red sauce and FRESH YESH FRESH GRADED CHEESE! Definitely recommend! The food is good. Never anybody in there. This is my 4th time eating here and every time I leave, I tell hubs "I do not ever want to come back here". There are just too many hip places to visit these days. I just feel kind of lame every time I come here. Like in the 80s this would have been "hip" The food is ok..... like I could make it at home. I feel like going out to eat is "cheating on a diet" etc. and I don't leave here feeling like it's worth the cheat. So yes it's edible, it's good, service is amazing, the staff are great. Food was amazing! Chips and salsa served free of charge to table (authentic chips!). We had the accapollo chicken and #8 enchiladas. Muey Bueno! Rice and beans served with dish and delish!! Restaurant was clean and cute with old Pueblo Mexican flair! Never would have guessed with strip mall location and no outside "look" that it would be so good! Delicious home cooked Mexican food. Stopped in for a late lunch and had great service and awesome food. Shredded beef burrito served piping hot with to crew and beans, combo #7 and a huevos rancheros you must see to believe. Crispy chips served with a great salsa. The service was terrible and they bring you the tiniest bowls of salsa and chips to your table no matter how many people. I have to believe that the bad reviews on here are from people who have no concept of what true New Mexico cuisine is. If you're in love with the typical Arizona "Sonoran" style (we call it "snorin') ultra-bland, boring, pasty crap that you get in most places here, then you won't like this. Just stick with the favorites of the Midwestern snowbirds that think Snappy Tom is too spicy. This is a hidden gym in Fountain Hills. Family owned and the family is always so nice! it has a nice vibe with a view of the big fountain which is always impressive to watch. I respectfully don't know where to start. From someone that grew up eating authentic Mexican food, the restaurant gives the vibes of just that. My boyfriend and I arrived in high spirits but was disappointed by their salsa immediately. Way too much garlic to the point we had to spit it out. Their queso dip is honestly decent and very cheesy which we loved, but needs more flavor. I ordered the combo 6, cheese enchilada with a chili relleno and my boyfriend ordered fajitas. When our food arrived, our plates were extremely hot, to the point the waitress burned her fingers placing my plate down and the beans and tomatoes on my boyfriend skillet were burnt. Their rice truly tastes like they threw tomatoes flavored water over the rice, no seasonings like garlic, onion, nothing. Friend had the chicken taco salad, and I enjoyed the seafood enchiladas. The place was not very busy, but the waitress had no idea how to do her job. She walked by us so many times I lost count. She never checked out drinks, or asked how the food was (good). When we asked for the check she combined the bill without asking. She managed to serve the tables with men in the group and even chatted them up. We asked her to spilt the bill, she said "In half?". We haven't been here in a LONG time. Stopped in for lunch today. The wife had a burger and fries. I hadn't seen anything posted about the fajitas, so I gave them a shot. They were middle of the road. For my taste (a personal thing) I prefer the bell peppers to be soft fried along with the meat, they were warmed through but still firm and crunchy. Ordered with no onions which I can't tolerate. Like I said, just my preference. They were very generous with the chicken (which had a great flavor), and it came with rice and beans which I thoroughly enjoyed. I have been coming to dinner here every week with members of our church choir after choir practice for over 10 years and have seen a number of changes over that time. Two things that thankfully haven't changed are the excellent food and the friendly and attentive service. I have to say that serving a group of 10 to 18 hungry and thirsty people with different tastes, and separate checks (some singles and some couples), is no easy feat, even if the restaurant is not busy. So let me start with the service.... The evening always starts with wonderful chips and homemade salsa and the drink of our choice. There are plenty to go around, and the chips and salsa is refilled as needed. The drinks are great! I've had everything from a frozen prickly pear Marguerita to a Pina Colada to a nice cold Servesa (always served in a frosty mug), as well as red and whit wine. If someone asks for water, usually they will bring water for all of us. And the servers are attentive enough that drinks are replenished quickly. The food is outstanding. Not only their Mexican dishes but the chicken wings and coconut shrimp are wonderful! The food comes out hot. ALWAYS! I've been here when the place was packed and the servers still need to remind me that the plates are hot. And I can't remember a single time over the last decade when a server got one of our 18 orders wrong! It seems like each of us has a favorite that we come back to often. Among mine are the chicken wings with blue cheese dressing on the side, the Mexican Pizza, the Que Bueno Burger with a mild chili and guac on it, and the Acapulco Chicken which is a burrito served Enchilada style with a wonderful creamy sauce. And the portion sizes are perfect. So long story short, if you're in the Fountain Hills area, are hungry, and have evr wanted a great Mexican food experience at a really reasonable price, Que Bueno is the place to be. Found a somewhat clean booth in the corner, and waited awhile for someone to come. Ordered some drinks and bean dip. Took longer than I liked to get drinks, but the margaritas were pretty good. Ordered our dinner anticipating yumminess... I didn't like mine, but the server was kind enough to refund my money. All in all, we weren't super impressed. My husband and I have passed this place for at least three years and never stopped. We decided to go in today and we were pleasantly surprised and impressed! Started off with the perfect chips and fresh salsa! He had a chimichanga, all white meat great enchilada sauce on the top. I went simple with a quesadilla because I'm always leery of new restaurants. Needless to say, this is going to be one of our new haunts The owner was our server and very pleasant. Fast service, and reasonable prices! I am really struggling to find something nice or redeeming about Que Bueno, but the only thing I can possibly come up with is that they are conveniently located for me. The service was slower than that old person in front of you when you are late for work and really have to pee. Slow, and slow-witted. Not very friendly or aware either. The table wasn't very clean, and it had pepper but no salt shaker. The food was bland, and mostly undercooked. Except for the steak fajitas, which I asked to be served rare but came well done. Well done with near-raw bell peppers and onions. The chili relleno my wife ordered had completely uncooked onions inside it. Also, did I mention that the service was slow? Seriously, a guy with a cane came hobbling up to the bar to ask for his check because he was tired of waiting for it. No joke. The cheese dip seriously looked like clam chowder. I highly recommend that you stay away from this restaurant, unless, that is, you like going to a place where you are going to be left alone. read more

The server (Rosy) was unfamiliar with the beer selection, didn't know what sweetener offerings for Ice Tea were available and wasn't very attentive as we had to track her down for refills and ask another server to send her over to take our order. Additionally, She seemed to disappear until the food was ready. Shouldn't a quality server monitor tables throughout the evening for refills, etc. - Rosy didn't! The food quality was - Blah. Moved to FH a few months ago but just got around to trying Que Bueno last night and we were duly impressed. My wife (who is from New Mexico) ordered a Chile Relleno which was cooked to order with Green Chile and she was impressed with the freshness and flavor. I got the #5 combo platter with the shredded beef taco and pork burrito with Green Chile. The Green Chile was the perfect level of hot and very tasty. Chips hot and crisp. Salsa fresh. Washed it all down with ice cold draft Dos Equis. Service was great. You can tell this is a family run business. We will be back soon. read more

We decided to have Mexican food at Que Bueno's before the "trick or treat" kids came to the house. I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of food. The server was friendly and really paid close attention to us, filling our drink and water glasses without having to ask. I had the Sanchez Special which was two enchiladas, one with chicken and the other with shredded beef covered with a cream of mushroom sauce. The enchildadas were packed full of meat and flavor. My wife had the taco and enchilada which were just as good. Not a bad place for good food, friendly and fast service. read more

Was happy with this restaurant the first couple of visits because the food was good, but my final visit was very disappointing. My husband ordered the Mexican pizza and they were very stingy with the sour cream so he asked for a little more, and when we got the bill we were charged $2.25 for a tablespoon amount! Hubby and I had an awesome dinner last night. We moved to FH 2 years ago and it was our first time going to Que Bueno the food was great as well as the service. our waitress Amy was very nice and very nice. We got drinks right away and the food came out very quickly. My husband asked our waitress for a dinner suggestion and she helped him with that. He ordered the Alcapolo Chicken per our waitress suggestion which she loved. Another great plus for this restaurant was that we sat at a booth that we could look out the window and see our beautiful fountain. We will definitely come back again here for dinner. Getting 2 stars because the waitress was very nice. Food was horrid. If you post saying "this is the best Mexican food I have ever had" You're insane! Soupy queso dip, chunks of non melted cheese, got 2 orders of something called "h-bombs"...they made me throw f-bombs. I spent 33 bucks with tip for 2 appetizers and an Iced tea...YIKES!!! I will 100% not be back. The place was empty and I was told the "owner" made my food. They called back to tell me I could come back in and they would make it right.
