This little Mexican spot was a nice discovery. Located on Sprinkle Rd. a short distance south of the highway, it for all the world looks like it is housed in a former BP station. The form factor just has that apperance, and the fact that the trim color on the outside is green probably completes the illusion. However, in looking it up, it apparently actually used to house a series of pizza joints, most notably a Cottage Inn. The dining room is spacious and well-appointed offering a pleasant place to enjoy a meal. I was there with a colleague for a late lunch before dropping him at his hotel before I headed home. Hence, because of the hour it was not busy. It's a bit of a cross between a Mexican full-service restaurant and a Tex-Mex fast food place. The format is walk-up-and-order but the menu is more like a full-service place. The service was friendly and very efficient. They offer some good choices on their menu. My colleague had Lengua Gorditas, which he liked quite a lot. I had one of my Mexican favorites, the Huevos con Chorizo. It was a very tasty selection accompanied by the usual refried beans, rice and tortillas (I chose the corn tortillas). The portion was quite good which worked well since I had eaten very little that day. Even at that, I was not able to finish the beans and rice. We both had bottled drinks. With food, drinks, tax and tip, our bill was $49. At $24.50 per person, it was a bit expensive for lunch, but the value was reasonable for what we got by today's standards. I go to Kalamazoo periodically for business. I'll keep this place in mind when I'm there. They apparently have another location near WMU, so that might be a target to try in the future. read more

I used to love this place, but the quality is way down. I went yesterday and got the beef grande burrito and chips and queso. The queso had no flavor and was liquid like water. Ok, I'm in Kalamazoo. I'm hungry and Mexican cuisine sounds fabulous. I reach out for my Yelp app and start my search. This place is on my way home and has pretty good reviews. I'm stopping. My first impression walking through the door was that it's a basic Mexican restaurant. Typical decor and typical menu. I ordered Nachos Grande and my wife ordered 3 Mexican Style Tacos. We added a side of chips and salsa. Basic stuff, nothing fancy. No special orders. We were alone in the restaurant sitting and waiting for our food. I watched a few food deliveries being picked up at the counter, but nothing crazy. We ended up waiting over 20 minutes before getting our food. Now keep in mind, that I try to review based on my dining experience as a whole. Everyone starts out as a 5 star. Then we go from there. Parking was good because the lot was basically empty. The decor was whatever. The menu was pretty standard and prices were fair. Cleanliness probably isn't at the top of the priority list. Stale chips. But waiting over 20 minutes for mediocre food, being served by teens that seemed like they'd rather be anywhere else was the downfall. I got what I came for. Mexican cuisine. This was the worst representation of Mexican food I've ever had, the only authentic food on the plate was the rice, I ordered chicken enchiladas, the chicken was dry and not stewed in real enchilada sauce, the enchilada sauce was obviously from a can, the owner tried to tell me it was concentrate??!! I don't think I've ever gotten a sit-down meal faster than this one. I was planning to order my meal to-go but decided to take advantage of the sunny day and dine on the patio. The view isn't anything to write home about (busy Sprinkle Road), but it's always nicer to dine al fresco in my opinion. Only a minute after I was seated, I received complimentary chips and a medium-hot salsa. Less than 5 minutes later, my dinner arrived. They offer tons of things very affordably ala carte, which is nice if you want to get sample a variety of things. I got an enchilada ($2) and a chicken chimichanga ($6) and a huge side of guac -- the whole order was under $10. Great value! This side of town is a bit of a food desert, so I'm glad that this awesome Latinx-owned option is available so close to home. read more

The food here is amazing as far as Mexican food goes. They are always very friendly behind the counter. The prices are also very good especially on Tuesday, you can't beat $2 Mexican tacos. Be care coming around 12:00 though they are very busy and it can be a little chaotic. read more

Great little gem, great service and delicious food and very good service. They have a great variety of foods and best of all the portions are big, I ordered 3 tacos and an order of rice and beans and I had food leftover for lunch the next day. Few times you run into a Mexican restaurant and get exactly what you want. This is one of those few places. On a quick vacation from Chicago and saw the place. It's not big and not small, it was just right. We got the Pastor, Mexican style tacos and the supreme nachos and a side of guacamole. You see its all about carne asada(steak) they marinate it well, from that you can tell they know what they are doing, meat not chewy and tasty is all you need. This business stole my money. I thought I was putting in an online delivery order, but as of now, a day later, apparently I was making a donation. My card was charged, no one at the business was answering the phone or the voicemails I left inquiring about when I would receive my order, customer service hasn't responded to my emails, and I'm screwed on being billed and wasting time trying to get the situation resolved. The tacos are pretty good here. Carnitas and al pastor tacos are spot on. The lengua is also decent. Their salsas are amazing. I don't suggest any American style food from here, but their Mexican style tacos are divine. I wished they started making cueritos, that would get this place to five stars for me. read more

Honestly the worst Hispanic restaurant in portage. Came in for my break and sat down to eat. Ordered a California burrito. Waited 30 minutes to get a cold burrito stuffed with lettuce and no steak whatsoever all on a dirty plate. On top of that the salsa was solid and seemed old.
