Mexican food is my FAVORITE!!! Listen, in my opinion our area just doesn't have any truly top notch Mexican food. Believe me, I have checked. As long as you know that this is an established fact for the greater Kalamazoo area, you can go into a place like Los Amigos and still have a very decent experience!! ;) Just don't set the bar too high, ya know what I'm sayin?? There are multiple Los Amigos locations nearby. We have tried each one, multiple times actually, but for some reason the Stadium drive is our favorite! The service is great, quick, and friendly. We prefer the atmosphere, though I'm not sure exactly what would be different from the others. We just like it here best!! :) Of course every good Mexican joint starts with a healthy dose of chips and salsa! Los Amigos is very prompt in their delivery of usually warm chips and fresh tasting salsa. My favorite part of this is that they automatically provide everyone with their own little bowl for their own salsa! Good job, Los!! :) My husband and I have found our groove. Occasionally we veer from tradition and get different things, but for the most part we love to order the fajitas - the fajitas el amigos, which comes with steak, chicken, and shrimp. We order the SINGLE order... it's SO much food!!! This EASILY serves 2 people, usually with some leftovers!! This meal comes with one plate of sides... rice, beans, and the "mexican salad" which basically consists of iceberg lettuce, some pico, a small dollop of sour cream and guac. If you like any of those things a lot, get an extra side. I usually ask for an extra side of sour cream. Yum! We also ask for extra tortillas, which they gladly include without extra charge!! :) Now for the best part... QUESO! Maybe this tells you a lot about my very americanized view points when it comes to Mexican foods... ;) But I just think queso is a must!! Most of the time we just order a side of queso to accompany our fajitas, but on this specific trip in we got the queso fundido with chorizo! WOW! We used to order this ALL of the time at the old Mi Ranchito Tres out in Otsego, but alas, very tragically, they haven't been around in YEARS... they were such a fav! Los Amigo's take on this dish isn't what I remember from my earlier years, but it's still pretty darn delicious and it was a very nice addition to the fajitas!! You can put it in a tortilla alone, but I like it on a chip or slathered across my fajita meats in my tortilla with toppings - YUM! And if you like spice, don't sleep on the RED El Yucateco hot sauce on the table. That stuff is fire! ;) Both in great flavor and great kick! I ordered nachos to go and when I got home to dig in, the chips were so soggy to the point I would have to eat with a fork. They didn't even taste good! I called to let them know about the order. I called back and asked to talk to someone about my to go order and the person who answered just put the phone down. I thought maybe she was going to go get someone, but 5 minutes later still no one so I hung up and tried to call back. When I called back my call wouldn't go thru. Usually, I'm a big fan of this location after living here for the last three years but lately something is different. I've tried to order three times on GrubHub and my order has been dropped the last three times. In addition tonight when that order dropped, I ordered takeout and picked it up. My chips were stale. I feel like if I'm paying for chips and cheese I should have fresh chips. Disappointed with the overall service in the back of the restaurant the last time I dined in as well. The beans were done nicely and it melted in the mouth. Shrimp was very good but it was a litt small portion. The fish tacos are very good and delicious, i would order them again. I didn't like the flan because it was hard and has strong flavor instead of jiggly and soft, but my husband liked it. I only suggest paying more attention to the level of cleanness . It's your average Mexican American restaurant with all of the usual menu items like burritos and tacos. They do offer free chips and salsa that are really good and plentiful. The staff is always friendly but also always rushed. I had an enchilada, taco and tamal that was hot and fresh but lacked even the slightest flare and was kinda boring. I had the fajitas quesadilla. The chicken was dry and overcooked. The rice was gummy and no taste Hubby ordered the steak fajitas. The server brought Steak quesadilla. My husband clearly ordered the beef fajitas as he ALWAYS does. The server tried to argue that he'd ordered the wrong thing until I made it VERY clear the SERVER had ordered the wrong thing my husband didn't. There were NO onions in it and also very few tomatoes. My husband said the beef tasted good but was not what he normally gets in the fajitas. Again, he ALWAYS gets this. The chips were old but the salsa was thick and good. The queso was cold and not warmed. I think we'll stick to Los Ranchos in South Haven from now on. The food is much better. Mexican food as you expect it! Delicious and affordable. They serve freshly made tortilla chips and homemade salsa. We opted for chicken quesadillas and we were impressed with speed of the service. It felt like we had just ordered when our meals were presented ! Our quesadillas were crispy on the out side and filled with nicely seasoned chicken, tender crisp peppers and onions , and gooey melted cheese. Along side this was Spanish rice and a salad of lettuce tomato and sour cream. We opted to add a margarita-they offer many flavors but had the traditional lime on the rocks. This time it was very, very little meat. The serving size was good, but for $15, the dish warrants a great deal more meat instead of tiny little leftover scraps. This Mexican restaurant in Kalamazoo in my opinion caters towards a younger audience and gets rowdy/loud at night. The servers were not very attentive and we were waiting for drinks/ a check for awhile. Out of all the Mexican restaurants I have been too, I would say this one is on the lower end in terms of quality of food. The salsa that they hand out with the chips is still very good! My taquitos mexicanos were good, but I thought the meat was a little on the dry side. If you are looking for a loud Mexican restaurant this one might be a better fit for you then it was for me and my family trying to have a meal. Asked for the food to go and she brought the bill with 2 drinks and our food and we took our ticket up to the counter. Our male waiter came over and said your bill is wrong and said you had 4 drinks and we said we drank our 2 but you brought us 4 not our fault and he said no you had 4 drinks. Just was not what I expected. It tasted like it had been filtered through an angry vegan. We have been going to Los Amigos since it has opened on stadium drive. Food has always been consistently good however the service depends on who you get. Sometimes it's excellent and you get everything you order and other times there is a language gap and it takes a few tries. Take out is another story. If you order over the phone I can almost guarantee you won't have what you actually ordered. We have learned to place our to go orders at the bar and just wait. I'm skeptical about Micheladas whenever they're on a menu but again it did not disappoint!! I'm a big fan of this place, but tonight we had a very bad interaction with a server and I though I should share this with the community for the sake of the restaurant. Our server was depleting their bad day on the costumers. They raised their voice while we were ordering because we were having trouble finding a certain item on the menu. They pointed it out aggressively as their voice tone was getting louder. They decided to then leave our table to another's as we were giving him our order!!! They left us hanging for 15mins before they came back to take our order. We were not being helped at all and they completely ruined our dining experience. There was a stick in my ground beef. The waiter tried to say it was seasoning but it was clearly a twig from a tree branch. Scary. Run.

This place is good during evening shift , not great but good but during the day the energy and attitude of the staff is one of contempt and disdain , they try to be nice but it's not really coming through not mention they dry out 3 minute stakes with not so fresh everything else . The service is so friendly and efficient here that I'm sorry to not recommend it. The food is just disappointing. Enchilada suizes usually have a sour cream and green salsa sauce instead of salsa and a glob of sour cream with unmelted cheese. The tortillas were cold and folded over the chicken pieces, not really enchiladas. Good rice and beans although not hot enough to melt the cheese. This is a place that I like to bring family when they are in town visiting, too, because it reminds me of some restaurants from home. Not the most authentic Mexican food around, but a good Americanized version. This place is clean, affordable, fast, and tasty. The service can be hit or miss, but has been mostly positive for me. They bring chips and salsa to your table very quickly. As a creature of habit, I tend to get the same thing when I come here: 3 cheese enchiladas and a side of refried beans. Good every time. Also, since I'm not a big fan of salsa, I typically get an order of cheese dipping sauce to eat with the chips... so gooooooood. I've also gotten drinks a few times. Now I'm going to be a little bias. I grew up in a traditional Hispanic home where we cooked our own food from scratch every day. But this place isn't too bad. It defiantly has a lot of American accents. I got the burrito grande with a side of beans and rice. Beans were creamy and thick just the way I like them. The rice was a bit bland for my taste. And that burrito whew, HUGE. I was a little disappointed with the red sauce they put on top of the burrito. It didn't have much of a kick to it. If you're ever in the mood for authentic and super yummy Mexican food. Then this is the place I'd recommend. The staff members are so nice and patient with you, and even joke around. The menu is packed with different entrées and drinks. You'll need a bit of time before deciding this. If you're indecisive, definitely go for the combination dinners. You'll be able to try a few different classics all in one plate. From burritos to tacos, enchiladas, tamales, and so on. Ordering can be a lot of pressure if it's you're first time having Mexican dishes. So take your time or be adventurous and try something new. While you're doing that, you're given complementary chips and salsa to keep your hunger at bay. But the plates are so plentiful, that you'll end up leaving with a to go box. Tasty, friendly, and super-fast, Los Amigos is a great place for Tex-Mex in Kalamazoo. Lunch yesterday was my fourth visit to Los Amigos. The first thing you notice when you get situated in the dining room is the furniture: every table, booth, and chair is custom printed with the Los Amigos logo. It's a bit curious, but it's helpful if you're likely to snap a picture of your dinner companion and forget where the photo was taken. My dining companion A. and I were seated immediately, and we were quickly given a big basket of hot tortilla chips and two small bowls for the mini-carafe of salsa. Feeling hungry, I ordered a dinner entree of "fajitas de puerco" ($11.99, remember: this is Tex-Mex, not authentic Mexican, so pork fajitas isn't a contradiction in terms), and A. ordered a "Speedy Gonzales" (a taco and enchilada combination platter). Our very helpful server hadn't heard anyone order the fajitas de puerco before, so I was concerned. She assured me that everything on the menu was good, and that there were no wrong choices. I remained skeptical for the time being. Our food was at our table with startling speed -- certainly within five minutes, maybe under four. I'll have to time them next time, because it really was remarkable. My sizzling fajitas pan was piled high with a very generous pile of carnitas-style pork, mixed with grilled onion, pepper, and tomato, and came with an accompanying plate of beans, rice, and other fixings. A. shared a wish that the Speedy Gonzales platter came with beans in addition to rice. My skepticism about my order subsided when I tucked into my my meal. The pork was hot, juicy, fall-apart tender, and flavorful. There was so much food that I dumped a quarter of it on my friend's plate, and when finished eating I still had enough to take home for a full dinner (which means something because I'm a big fat guy, so I'm super good at eating). I had no complaints about my food whatsoever. A. remarked that the taco was good and the enchilada was merely average. Ok the only reason for 4 stars is because chips were from the night before & didn't taste as good as they normally do. I had the shrimp quesadilla and it was excellent! There were more shrimp in it than I expected so I was pleasantly surprised. I normally stick with chicken but was feeling a little feisty so I tried shrimp and I wasn't disappointed. My husband had the beef fajita and it was a HUGE helping of meat and a good supply of peppers & onions. A couple of visits ago he had alot of peppers & onions and not as much meat. From reading the other reviews, Los Amigos seems like it can be hit or miss. I found it to be good Americana Mexican. I was brought here by friends who said it was their go-to for Mexican in Kalamazoo. The tortilla chips and salsa they brought to the table were standard. The salsa was okay, there was not much or a kick to it though. We shared a cheese and chorizo sausage dip appetizer. While oily from the sausage, it was really good. We all ordered combination plates and had a variety of tacos, enchiladas and tostadas. The rice that came with was better than standard, though the beans were the average accompanied side to the main items type. The portion was huge. Ever thing we had had flavor, nothing was dried out. We were super hungry, and we found a place right away on a sunday night. The atmosphere is remarkable and pure mexican. I loved it. The vegeterian nachos item is a must! It is super delicious; the vegetables were fried and the cheese amount was significant. I would definitely recommend it!
