Tried fish , chicken and steak taco . I recommend the fish. It was good portion and done nicely. Chicken was ok , steak might needed more seasoning. Chips and salsa are good. Prices were reasonable. Unfortunately , Service wasn't that good as the food to me. The staff were nice and polite but i found hair in my taco. I do a lot of nonmedical transportation in southern Michigan, and have a time waiting. I was looking for some eats, love Mexican food. Not too far from the hospital, read some of the reviews, had to try. Ordered wet burrito, was about 10 bucks. It was a good portion of burrito, it was fairly saucy, the tortilla was rapped and soft to taste. It had a savory flavor, not too spicy, until I added the hot sauce, which was very spicy. The restaurant had few people in seats, but the kitchen looked busy, with to go orders, seen two people pick up, and looked like three people in kitchen, with a few orders ready to go. Ordered the quesadilla de maiz with picadillo (ground beef with potatoes and carrots) and loved it!!! Queso blanco and crema was sprinkled atop of that yumminess. Husband ordered Especial Lolita's (three pairs of enchiladas covered in different sauces: red, green and mole, with a side of beans and rice). That was very good as well! I ate his mole as he is not a huge fan of it. Very, very good! He has eaten here once before and enjoyed it enough to have me join him for a second visit. This place was awful! I tried this place on recommendation from a friend. I also thought it would be okay since the Yelp reviews are overall positive. The first sign should have been that they were using Popeye's food wrappers for whatever reason. Are these reused? Donated? Stolen? Who knows. My friend got the carne asada plate and I got an al pastor torta with an hongos (mushroom) taco on the side. The Good: The mushroom taco was decent. Nothing you couldn't make at home in a few minutes though. The Bad: The flour tortillas were paper thin and had no flavor. The carne asada was thin, very fatty, and massively over cooked. It was so tough that it was inedible. The pork in the al pastor was also very, very fatty like this. The grilled cactus (on the asada plate) was not good. It was kinda of slimy and had no flavor. To be fair, I've never had cactus before either, so I'm not sure what it's suppose to taste like. The torta was mediocre and it was served on a store bought sandwich bun. I thought I had tasted it all, but then I stumbled upon lolitas back a couple months and my taco world has changed. THE BEST TACOS AROUND. I may be only able to speak for the steak tacos on white corn (mexican style) but sometimes that's all you need. I can confidently say that I will not get tacos from anywhere else in Kalamazoo because these are literally the best, and most affordable!! The meat is tender and copious, it's never too greasy and there's a perfect balance of onions and cilantro. The BEST authentic Mexican food in Kalamazoo. Their Al Pastor Mexican style tacos are our favorite. We love their salsa and tamales too!

We have been the regular customers at this place since the first day that they were opened. It's true! The owners and the waitresses even know us because we are there for too many times. The customer service is superb. Every time we go in there, the owners who are the chefs always greet us with a smile no matter how busy they are. The place is a pretty good size to sit in and eat. The prices are very decent and the food portion size is generous. I always get more than my money's worth. My usual- never -getting- old- orders are--- fish tacos, chicken Gordita, chicken quesadillas, chicken quesadillas demaiz( fried dough with cheese) and finally steak tacos. As for tacos, we can't really speak for the american style since we only get Mexican style which are of onions and cilantro. Oops, I almost forget ! The verde salsa ( green sauce) and the red sauce the signature sauces that make the tacos authentic. If you aren't into hot and spicy (red) sauce, go with the verde salsa and you will not regret it. Tip: If you eat in, they give you chips and salsa for appetizer. Vegetarian options are offered as well. read more

This place needs a lot of work. The Carne Asada wast just lightly seasoned steak meat, grilled vs a Marinated chopped flank steak. They cover up the chewy bland meat with a overabundance of onion and cilantro.... And the price is way to much for the food you get. They charge you for using a card in the year, 2021 thats kind of a scam. In a world where you can venmo cash without a card thats just silly. If you want weak mexican food thats over price this is your place. They should get flank steak marinate it (google a recipe for asadas) and less fluff. They should lower their prices and have just a few more combo type meals. They should get rid of the Alambra plate and replace it with Hevos rancheros, and have a breakfast burrito available. If they did that and get a morning crowd they'd probably get more business. Its sad that people actually think this place is past 2 stars. Try Los Amigos and use that as your bench mark. Soon as I walked in they instantly greeted me which Is a MAJOR for me because I work in hospitality and interacting is very important I was looking for the menu they directed me I was hesitant because I'm so familiar with another authentic Mexican place I ordered 4 flour tortillas tacos (steak with tomatoes cheese and lettuce for my boyfriend) and I ordered Mexican style steak corn tortillas tacos ( steak cilantro onions) and one chorizo taco and also I'm not sure what it's called but it's a platter with steak,chorizo,ham, peppers with melted cheese with a side a rice with 5 tortillas of your choice and I must say it ALL was soooooooo GOOD you can tell the steak marinates overnight before they cook it the flavor is on point tender and very flavorful everything was very delicious I will be coming back maybe my new favorite Mexican restaurant keep up the good work ! read more

Soooo good. This is REAL Mexican food. Don't expect a "wet burrito" kind of tex-mex experience, or you will be disappointed. Picadillo filling is delicious, filled out with carrots and potatoes. Chorizo is authentic and spicy. I often hear that the chicken is a little dry, but I tend to stick with the picadillo, al pastor (grilled pork) or chorizo. I like the quesadilla de maiz, which is a HUGE fried empanada-type thing made from corn dough and filled with meat and cheese and lightly covered in sour cream and more cheese. There is more than just the usual rice-and-beans options for vegetarians as well--their mushroom filling is delicious. So happy this is my neighborhood Mexican restaurant where I work. We picked up some really good food here. The wet burrito serves two people, it's so large and tasty. I had 3 yellow corn tacos. Mexican style. The chicken tacos were full of meat, but a bit dry. The fish taco was excellent. Next time I'll get all fish tacos! Lolita's is worth a visit. read more

Just NO! The carne asada is disgusting. It is so chewy and over cooked it is almost inedible; seriously my kid spit it out, it has zero taste. The ground beef/potato/carrot blend was so bland and uneventful that you might as well just ground yourself some beef at home and eat it because the beef I buy at the grocery store is better. The only thing remotely good was the chorizo and I am not a big chorizo fan but it was the only thing with any taste. They bring you chips and salsa. The salsa is mostly tomato. The cilantro was fresh. Totally a dive place which is usually my jam but they did not make up for that with the quality in food and service. This is a hard pass. read more

Bad customer service ... again. We went there today for a quick dinner and give Lolita's another chance but experienced really poor service instead. The waitress ignores us for over 10 minutes while taking orders over the phone. The owner/cook noticed this but did not do anything. Food is good, not cheap, but service is really bad. After reading two rather favorable reviews on this site, and desperate for authentic Mexican food that was not watered down Tex Mex, we decided to check Lolita's Taco out. We had lived on that side of Kalamazoo when we were in college, so we had also seen a succession of restaurants start up and then fail in that building on that intersection of East Main & Humphrey. And I liked the restaurant's name too. The parking lot was a busy place, as people came in to order take out and to pick up their completed orders. (The parking lot is a big triangle without any lines so cars park chaotically. It's the type of parking lot in which people pull in, park, sit in their cars for awhile without entering the restaurant, and then pull out. And then return 5 minutes later and repeat. And people also use the parking lot as a way to cut through from Humphrey to East Main to avoid the red light.) The seating area is to the right of the door. We sat ourselves in a dark, empty dining room filled with about 15 booths and tables. We ordered four tacos on flour tortillas, Mexican style (without filler like lettuce, tomato, and sour cream), one of each: steak, fish, beef tongue, and chorizo; and a flauta dish with chicken accompanied with refried beans, guacamole, and rice. But the kitchen had run out of fish, so I substituted the marinated pork. I wanted to taste the protein in each taco without being distracted by the competing tastes of filler. Neither of our dishes were hot. The steak and beef cheek were dry and the marinated pork and chorizo were tender but less than flavorful. I was surprised by the lack of punch in the chorizo. I thought the steak & beef cheek were cut or cubed in such fine pieces that it would be daunting exercise to not have them get dried out when cooked. My girl liked the chicken flautas but thought the guacamole tasted odd and refused to eat the refried beans and rice. I ate the rice; it was soft and rather tasteless. The meal with a water and a cola was about $18.50. At the onset of the meal I received a napkin rolled around a tablespoon and my girl got a napkin rolled around a fork & knife. (Fortunately, tacos require few utensils.) The menu offered interesting options. The service was efficient & friendly. The bathrooms were spartan but clean. I'm not necessarily ready to give up on this place since it has only been weeks since it opened. I may update later. read more
