two croissants in a paper bag
Rosie Q.

Nothing I love more than the smell of fresh baked yumminess early in the morning! Buttery croissants with all sorts of fruity filling to be exact! They have all their baked goods right in front as you enter inside this little bakery so be prepared to tell them you're still looking because you're just overwhelmed by their vast selection of goodies. Apple Croissant- These croissants are massive with lots of fluff. Once you get in the middle of this flakey goodness, the filling has these fresh bits and pieces of apple. Raspberry Croissant- Sweet with the right amount of tart inside of this buttery pastry. Cinnamon Almond Croissant- This was probably the only one I didn't like. It was dry and a bit on the harsher side with the cinnamon and sliced almond so just have a drink ready for this one. Overall Service: As I was perusing through their selections, it felt like they were rushing me a bit by constantly asking me if I decided on anything yet. I probably said I was still looking 3 times before they stopped asking. Even though they were upbeat, it's too early for that at 6 in the morning. Other than that, they were nice.

I ordered 30 mini cupcakes for my son's graduation banquet. They were absolutely delicious! Everyone wanted to know where I got them. Currant scones and Hazelnut coffee are also the bomb!

Excellent food and great customer service. Tried the chocolate croissant and it's warm and amazing. Crispy on the outside and nice and warm and gooey of chocolate yumminess! The muffins looked so good. I didn't get to try the walnut one but friend did and said it was good!

A recent addition to Belmont center this little sister store to the Arlington favorite brings a much needed indie bakery to the Belmont scene. I popped in recently and found a feeling of pastry deja vu- albeit offered up on a slightly smaller scale. The two pastry cases display all your usual suspects: muffins, scones, eclairs, croissants, cupcakes and cake options. Many of the goodies come in regular or petite versions- letting you adjust your sliding scale of gluttony accordingly. My wild blueberry scone and chai confirmed that this smaller storefront still delivers the same tastiness I'd come to expect from their Arlington brethren. My only qualms with this place have to do with the set-up. The store is small (no in-store seating) and there's no clear traffic pattern in place for browsing, ordering and waiting for your purchase. The day I was here it wasn't particularly crowded with 4-5 patrons in the shop at any given time. But it felt cramped. There were a few times while I was waiting to order, peering around the other customers standing idly around the counters, when I thought about just bouncing to avoid the awkwardness-- but in the end the scone won me over and proved worth the wait. Easily beating out nearby Brueggers & Starbucks in both quality and selection- this place will do well here. Just a word of advice- as Quebrada gets into their groove at this Belmont location, consider making the ordering layout more clear to customers. You want to give people every reason to come in and order, so a sign or verbal prompt about which side to order and which side to wait would be appreciated. I mean, not everyone loves scones as much as me.

Coffee was delicious, and the food options looked good too. Just a pick up spot. No washrooms or coffee-shop comfy seating.

Amazing strawberry cake for my wife's birthday. Even someone that doesn't like cake, loved it. Moist filling and delicious frosting.

The mini cupcakes were the perfect size (I don't like *too* much dessert, I know I'm weird), and price (less than $2!).

The black sesame latte was something I had never tried anywhere before, I got it hot and it was absolutely incredible. Such a unique flavor that worked perfectly. I also ordered their salmon breakfast sandwich, and I only have good things to say. The salmon was fresh, all of the accompaniments were perfect. I took the first seat I could find, but the tables are small, very close together and a bit wobbly. But that couldn't stop me from enjoying my meal.

After some deliberation, I went for the smoked salmon, avocado and egg sandwich! I had just come off a red-eye flight and man... that thing HIT THE SPOT! It was probably the best smoked salmon sandwich I have had. The bread was so FLUFFY and soft, and the eggs were buttery, which paired really well with the avocado and the spread they used. I would highly recommend! It was the perfect size, and I was satisfied after having it. Seating was self serve, as you just take the Number placard to any table you find available. They serve you the food when it is ready. The service was pretty quick (~10-15 min), given that it was pretty busy on a Monday morning. You can grab a cup of water at their self-serve station. They also had wifi with a pretty strong connection (big plus in my book). Overall, I would go back for certain! I would like to try the whole menu if I could because everything looked so good!

There is a good amount of seating in the store and free water for customers to fill themselves which I always love. The Bacon Egg and Cheese was a wise decision and priced very very well, I would definitely recommend that! My favorite sweet was the strawberry tea cake, top class that was. The donut and banana bread were also very tasty but I didn't get to eat enough of them to feel as strongly about them as I do the strawberry tea cake. I think it's assume you can't go wrong with anything you can purchase from Butternut Bakehouse,... Enjoy! The ambiance was full of energy with friendly staff and happy customers. For food we ordered the eggplant sando and the chicken piccata sandwich. While both tasted good, I was surprised at how much more I enjoyed the eggplant one. The eggplant was breaded well and crispy without feeling too heavy on oil. The rest of the sandwich with arugula and roasted red peppers also felt fresh. The chicken sandwich was also good with thin layers of chicken, and flavored well. However I liked the chicken where as for eggplant I felt the sandwich as a whole worked well. While busy, it still feels like enough movement of groups that you can easily find a seat. The staff is also very friendly making it a neighborhood spot I would definitely come back to.

The bacon was crispy, broccoli roasted with seasoning, a perfectly cooked over medium egg all on a brioche bun. There was also spicy goat cheese spread on the slider, however there wasn't a lot there to taste it with every bite and it certainly wasn't spicy. I would have loved more of it, because the bites that did get some were absolutely delicious in enhancing flavor with the egg. The sandwich itself is larger than expected, bigger than a typical slider which was a pleasant surprise. I also ordered an incredible Apple Cheddar biscuit on the side. It was freshly made, buttery, and had little apple chunks in it. Great experience and I highly recommend visiting if you're looking for quick and convenient breakfast, with a great quality and fair price!

He shouted out that she had "contaminated" the drink and he would make a new one for the correct customer. This was all said in a loud, actorly voice so that everyone in the shop could know that He Was Displeased. Note, the "contamination" consisted of the woman a) holding the cup of hot chocolate and, b) walking to her table with it. On a previous occasion, he yelled at an older woman in her 90s because she needed to sit down on a chair while he was sweeping. He snidely told her that she should go outside if she needed to sit. Her confusion about the seating was understandable, because for some unknown reason the cafe needs to close a full hour before the bookshop (and they begin this process earlier even than that, by "helpfully" putting away the chairs and turning off the lights). I guess they sell some croissants and coffee, but honestly: who cares, given the above?

However, I was happy to find that there was a cafe in the back corner that opens in the mornings. So on the way to work, I tried out their cute cafe and got a pumpkin-spiced latte with almond milk. I will say that they lose points (in my books) just based on my personal preferences. First off, being a brewery, expect there to be a STRONG smell of beer. Even though I wasn't in there for long, I could still find myself getting a headache and not enjoying the strong smell. I'll also say that the service I received the morning I went wasn't the best, and the man who made my drink definitely did not want to be there.
