I attempted to try this salon for the first time. I made an appointment months in advance. Then contacted them the day before to re-confirm that the appointment was still good. But then at 2am the morning of the appointment I receive a message that my appointment was canceled and will be rescheduled! No thank you. Wow. Horrible Horrible Horrible. I've never dealt with such a pushy, rude, abusive hair braider in my life. I absolutely regret coming to this place. When I first walked in, I showed one of the braiders Ajda Cisse a Havana twists hairstyle on Pinterest and asked if she could do it. I remembered seeing mostly braids on yelp for Queen African Hair Braiding and the shop only had pictures of braided hairstyles on the walls, so I asked if she had any pictures of twists that she had done before. She became very irate that I would dare question her 22 years of experience (mind you, I've never met this woman before in my life) and said that I was being difficult because I wanted to see a picture of twists among what she claimed to be 75,000 hair photos on her Facebook-None of which that I saw were twists, by the way. And this is where I went wrong, because I had limited options and was pressed for time, I actually agreed to let her touch my head, and when I told her that I would go get the proper hair for the style, she insisted on following me with her sour attitude to the beauty supply store (I guess she was desperate to not lose a customer and greedy for money) and insisted that I buy 6 packs of hair that she confirmed can be used for the Havana twists style that I wanted. This hair cost me $78 outside of the $100 she charged me for the style itself! The hairstyle I wanted was shoulder length, had wide sections, large, chunky twists and should not have taken longer than about 2, maybe 3 hours TOPS. This lady was doing my hair from about 12 noon to 6:50pm! She sectioned off the back of my head in really small sections, which I couldn't see, and I think she did that because she figured out that this hair couldn't achieve what I wanted, so she wanted use small sections, causing her to take longer, to justify making me pay the full price for the WRONG hairstyle all because she didn't want to admit that she didn't know how to do the style I asked for. And she's such a liar, when my mom called to ask at 2pm how much longer it would take, I asked this dummy and she said just 1 more hour, which is the same lie she told another poor customer waiting to get HER hair done. This lady was doing my hair until almost 7pm and that other customer had to wait all that time!!! This incompetent woman apparently didn't know the difference between kinky twists and the Havana chunky twists I asked for. She was insisting that the styles were the same and less than half way through, when it became apparent that the hairstyle would not look anything like what I had asked for, I confronted her about it and she tried to use the excuse that the hair was not the right hair, but SHE was the one who told me it was the correct hair AT THE STORE and stood next to me as I bought it! When I asked questions about what she was doing with my hair because I had been there for hours and ALL the ends were loose and unfinished, she berated me, rudely dismissed me saying, "You're being very difficult!" and then went off on me to the other braiders in some other language. This lady straight up bullied me to the point that the other customers actually started to defend me and one of them nearly got into an altercation with this Adja Cisse woman after she told the customer to "shut up and mind your business!" And to top it off, she was bold enough to stand behind me and take a picture of my hair without my consent! Such disgusting, unprofessional behavior. The poor customer next to me had to tell her hair braider 5 times not to cut the stray hairs off of her braids because she was cutting her actual hair. The braider insisted that she was going to disregard what the customer was asking for. These people don't listen. All the customers that were there this day said they would never come back and I am definitely among them. read more

I made a last-minute appointment and arrived late last week to get bra strap length Senegalese twists. Queen is a very fast braider, and the shop is clean and the staff are friendly. When I was started on an hour later, I was out of the chair in less than three hours with only Queen working on my giant head. Will definitely be coming back here again. I made an appointment. On the day of my appointment I waited for 2 hours for someone to show up.The women that was there only cleans and opens the door. So she couldn't do my hair. The whole time they said someone was coming. Only to be told two hours later that there is no one available to do my hair so I should find someplace else to go. This isn't the first time I have had an issue with them and decided to give them another chance. Waste of time and they will never see my money ever again. read more

I had Senegalese twists done. It was not neat and she did not use gel or any type of hokding agent to keep my hair in under the synthetic hair. There is also a lot of synthetic hair sticking out. It has been a week and it is frizzy and one came undone. Queen did not do my hair so I was a little disappointed. I gave it 3 stars for the price. I found this place on line.. I took a major risk. Drove from queens to the Bronx.. Queens price was beyond reasonable .. The owner walked with me in a blizzard to the beauty supply store to help me pick the hair I wanted. She did provide hair just not the kind i was looking for.. My hair usually takes hours to do because it is very thick and a lot.. Queen not only gave me the style I was looking for but finished it by herself in 3 hours.. I was beyond satisfied I will definitely be returning to her.. Money well spent I am extremely happy and I am a difficult person to please.. I parked at the meter queen made sure she finished my hair with time to spare me a ticket.. great place to do your hair.. You won't regret picking this place! read more

I went here for crochet braids. The shop was clean. My stylist was gentle with my hair and did not braid it tight. The experience was good until I looked in the mirror and saw the finished product. I have done crochet braids a few times before and I've always liked the results. I felt like I looked like Rick James. I couldn't understand why until I realized she just put the hair (freetress bohemian braid) in without splitting it. I thought it was common practice to split the hair before putting it in. I mean my friend who did it in house did a better job. I don't think I will be going back. read more

I came in person and made an appointment with Fanta. I spoke with her directly and confirmed date, time, price & style. When I arrived on time for my scheduled appointment, Fanta makes an attempt to send me to one of the other ladies in the shop. She said "It's all the same business." If I come in and speak with YOU and make an appointment with YOU and confirm if YOU are available that means I want YOU to do my hair. It's not rocket science. If she did not do my hair, I was leaving so needless to say she told me to sit in her chair. Fanta does not braid tight and she worked quickly. She had one phone call that she kept brief. I had crochet twists done and they came out ok. I asked her to focus the twists at the front of my hair and mentioned several times that I would not wear the twists in a ponytail. Instead, she has unnecessary twists at the nape of my neck with obvious gaps at the front. In some areas, you can clearly see that I have cornrows underneath. She did mention that I needed 7 packs of hair instead of the 6 that I purchased but if I didn't have twists all the way in the back of my head the gaps at the front could have been filled. I've done this same style before with the same 6 packs of hair and the other stylist did not leave any obvious gaps while crocheting. I tried to find a new place in a more convenient location but I will not be returning. read more

DON'T GO TO THIS PLACE!!!! You have been warned. I liked this braiding salon on my first visit, BUT on my 2nd visit I steam coming out of my ears for being so mad at how my hair turned out. The first visit the young lady who did my.hair did an awesome job, but the 2nd visit this other lady did not speak English and jacked my hair up. I asked if the lady who did my hair the 1st time was she coming to work today? I was informed this other lady could do my hair just fine...NOT! Queen, the owner did not stick by her word stating all the ladys in her salon were professionals....NOT! She find these ladies off the street and have them come to her salon to braid hair. This place is great , its upstairs in a quiet Salon located in a very convenient area highly accessible by public transportation and there is free parking around the corner on 146st. The salon itself is next door to an eyebrow place for after i get my hair done i literally can just walk two feet and do my eyebrows its awesome ! I was skeptical at first because i DO NOT enjoy traveling to the Bronx but it was well worth the visit. I usually get cornrows which take about 2 hours but Fanta did them in a little over an hr which was great. She is very accommodating and responds to each phone call in a quick timely fashion and if u missed her she'll call you right back . I highly recommend this Salon. read more

My hair didn't even last me a week and when I ask her about to having it fix it was a back and forth and she said I had to pay again. When I spoken to her on the phone she gives you one price and then changes it after your hair is done. I wasted $100 on my hair because braids was falling out when I was walking in the street. I went to the shop on 11/8/15 and just like the reviews said this is an excellent braiding salon. Sita braided basic cornrows for me and just like I specified it wasnt tight around the edges and was done quickly and neatly. The prices are also reasonable.
