My travel buddy a Native to Nicaragua brought us here to try the quesillo ( a warm corn Gordita -tortilla like, wrapped around a piece of cheese and they add pickled onions and a salty cream sauce) a very unique flavor. They serve it inside a plastic bag, tied at the end. You have to flip it over, bite off the corner, spit out the plastic and just eat it from there. Must eat it like this to avoid spilling the cream sauce. They offer other traditional dishes which we also had and were delicious. But I only took a video of what I found to be unique. It's situated in a small strip mall, next to a Pizza Hut ; it's easy to miss, they need better signs. Overall a good place to try. In the Caribbean, South America, and Spain, a quesillo is a dense flan-style dessert. But in Central America, it's a savory snack akin to a Venezuelan cachapa. With one exception, my entire lunch crew has a Nicaraguan connection, either through heritage or marriage. I'm the exception. So when I mentioned discovering an undiscovered Nica spot, I was met with four pairs of doubting eyes. Décor isn't high on Quesillos Guiliguiste's priority list. If you've ever stepped into an Italian deli, you've seen communal counters that serve workers in a hurry to grab and go. That long, chest-high piece of furniture is the centerpiece of the dining room, along with two small benches, handwritten menus, and a retro cash register complete with an oversized roll of thermal paper. My coworkers silently looked around while nodding and tallying points for authenticity. Undoubtedly, the quesillo is the star attraction. Most visitors order one ($6) or two, and the dedicated attendant operates her station accordingly. Corn tortillas are quickly warmed in the kitchen, then topped with braided mozzarella-like cheese, sharp sour cream, and pickled onions (optional). There are three main ways to enjoy a quesillo: the "bag job," where all the ingredients merge inside a ziplock; the fancy "fork-and-knife job" while hovering over a paper plate; or my favorite, the "hand.... situation", grabbing it like a soft taco. There are also prepared dishes like Chancho con Yuca ($13), a fricassé-style pork served with boiled cassava and shredded cabbage slathered in tomato-based gravy. You can tell the rich sauce has been reducing for hours, soaking up deep umami flavors. It's a hearty dish, but it's not my first choice with half a workday ahead. The Taquitos ($6 for two) were freshly fried and crispy, but the tiny sliver of meat inside didn't help me meet my protein goals. Tiste ($4) is a traditional Nicaraguan drink, but it could just as easily be sold at Peet's as a Cinnamon-Sugar-Glazed Popcorn Iced Hot Chocolate. The flavors of Christmas spices, roasted corn, and dark chocolate satisfy without overwhelming your sweet tooth. Jugo de Tamarindo ($4) was just as memorable, but for all the wrong reasons. It was thicc, overly sweet, noticeably salty, and missing the sour punch I'm used to. It was so different from the tamarind juice I've enjoyed elsewhere that I thought they gave me the wrong drink. I get that it's a family business, but had I been at Pinolandia or Fritanga Monimbó, I'd be swimming in gallo pinto and carne asada, floating on a raft of fried cheese, for the same price I paid here for what was essentially two vegetarian quesadillas. Still, this shop has the monopoly on made-to-order quesillos, and all the Pinoleros in my pack were giddy with Guiliguiste, many grabbing to-go orders for their friends and families. read more

If you wanna try the best Quesillo of your life, this is the perfect spot. A true Nicaragüense hole in the wall. I will never go anywhere else for a Quesillo. I literally drive from Homestead to Flagler just to get this tortilla, string cheese and Central American cream in a bag. It may seem like just 3 simple ingredients but wow they're just amazing. I usually slurp the rest of the Central American cream from the baggie it comes in once I'm done with my Quesillo. (Please refer to the pic attached) You can also add onions or hot sauce to it. I brought two of my close friends to show them what the hype was about. We're all Nicaraguan and love some food that really embrace out culture. The service is always quick and the owner is nice. There's lots of parking, it's a spot where you really just grab your food and go. There's no tables to sit and eat. You either sit on the benches or lean up against the counter. Awful.. Service was cold and sad. Ambiance there was none. It's not inviting and appears run down. We tried their ever so "popular" quesillos and it was a disappointment. Mom shares how these are a Nicaraguan staple and reminded her of her youth, and so she found them being featured in Instagram so we made the trip to South Miami for us all to try. Tortilla, quesillo de trenza, cebollitas, and drowned in crema Nica. Soooooooo good! Prices have gone up a bit since the menu pic was posted by someone else in the comments but it's like everything. Every time we are in Miami we always make sure we stop here. But don't get me wrong, there is nothing fancy about this spot. It is super casual mom and pop type. We found this place last year. They serve Nicaraguan food specializing in the quesillos. These resemble braided mozzarella cheese ( more like the mexican type- the texture) and served with crema (cream) and onions. When freshly made, these treats are delicious. We tried the typical drinks like pinolillo, Jamaica and took some nacatamales to bring back to NY. Overall, it's a good place for home style cooking, no frills and only a counter with no chairs. This place has the best traditional Nicaraguan quesillos I have ever tasted in Miami, sweet pico, and subpar chicha. But let me warn you, the insides of this place are not like a five-star restaurant. However, it will make you feel like you are back at any traditional food place in Nicaragua. First off, I was a bit surprised because when I went to eat a quesillo previously, I ate it on a plate, so when they handed me the quesillo in the bag, I thought they confused my order for to-go. But my friend assured me that this is how they traditionally serve it. The cheese in this quesillo was chewy and delicious. The cream was sweet. It just had the perfect portion of ingredients. When you finish your quesillo, there is a lot of fluid left over, so I recommend to just drink it from the bag. It does taste good after all! With the pico, it was the first I ever had, and I enjoyed the crunch and sweetness of my Nicaraguan dessert. I would order it again. The chicha was also good, but I need to point out that I have had better at different fritangas and at Yambo. It was sweet, but it was missing all the maize extract pieces I enjoy in this drink. I think they just did not mix it better than they should have. It was also a bit sweeter than all the other ones I have ever had-- somewhat overpowering. Overall, my meal cost me $9. It made me reminisce about my vacation last December to Nicaragua. I will definitely come here again to grab another quesillo or pico if I ever feel the urge. They were just delicious and tasted as authentic as possible. HUGE PLUSSES: The owner speaks English, so you don't have to struggle if you don't know Spanish.
