I felt compelled to write a review because of all of the negative reviews. I feel like people don't typically review a doctor's office unless they had a bad experience. I read the reviews for this location after making an appointment online through their website (which was very simple!) and was very nervous about going.... I arrived with ample time before my appointment (afraid I'd get stuck waiting and be terribly late to work). There was one other patient waiting and she went in right when I arrived. The lady at the desk signed me in, went over the co-pay procedure, and then took me into another room to draw my blood and I was on my way. To be fair, I was just getting routine blood work but no one was rude to me, I didn't wait long at all, and they sent my results straight to my primary care doctor in LI. read more

Although I'm not a fan of needles and or medical tests, it is always such a pleasure to stop by Quest Diagnostics, where I get to interact with Flor... Not only is she a competent and efficient, Phlebotomist, but, she is personable, affable and even jocular. Exemplary bedside manners, she is archetypal, and epitomizes propriety, compassion and humanity. Hence, I tend to cringe as I see the needle about to enter my arm, and wait with apprehension, anticipation and fear, but, Flor's lissomely injection is over before I even realize it. And, I am dumbfoundedly left cringing until she explicates, she's done. Astounded, I reply, "I didn't feel a thing. So, wish everyone drew blood like you..." I've gone here for a few tests over the years since I live in the neighborhood and it's such a consistently poor experience. Rude staff, never remotely on time tor appointments and just generally unhelpful. Well, this was near my house, but unfortunately, their phone was busy so I couldn't make an appointment or confirm that they were open until 5:30pm. So I went there at 4pm and waited an hour, since there was only one woman there. However, my vein was used from a medical procedure, and she had to use my "bad arm" (not much of a vein for drawing blood). She said "Don't worry, I'm good at this." And she was! It didn't hurt much, and I surely appreciated her skill. She did better than an ER nurse did recently. read more

I had zero issues in this facility. In fact, Felicia was extremely pleasant and competent. She got my vein right away and she eased my mind on having to get blood drawn. My only suggestion is go early and get there first thing in the morning. I didn't wait longer than 3 minutes. Very happy and wanted to give Felicia a shoutout for being so great. read more

I am a retired Doctor who myself worked as a phlebotomist in Med, School, drawing bloods on difficult patients in intensive care units. However... On two occasions, I encountered the most unprofessional, rude, atmosphere at this 14th St. Quest lab where previously I had had only positive comments to make. However on recent occasions, the phlebotomist on duty was rude in every possible way...if there was a rating less than one star, this Quest location would certainly deserve it. There is only one person doing blood draws at certain times of the day, at this Quest location; jabbing the patient randomly multiple times, searching for a blood vessel a la on a "fishing expedition", asking, "does this hurt" (?). If the patient, answers in the affirmative, the lab person, simply ignores them and continues to keep sticking the patient multiple times, until I asked this individual that she please stop; no people skills either. Would this person wish to be treated this way? Dubious. The lab person cannot draw blood effectively. Conclusion: an experience of rudeness and incompetence, a horrible experience. Two times is enough at this Quest location. I will seek to go elsewhere where effectively trained, highly experienced phlebotomists are able to do their job and not experiment on patients she may not like. The patient care was atrocious. Their check-in system wasn't working, so I completed it with a nurse standing next to me, so I know it was done correctly. There's a screen in the lobby where you can see the next patient in line. I wasn't on there. So, I asked if I was actually checked-in in the system. Nurse couldn't answer. She goes to the back to check, comes out and tells me someone will be with me shortly. The nurse from the back comes out and says they're backed up, they're just calling patients now from 30 minutes ago now, there's a huge delay, a coworker was hit by a car, and so on. All I asked was "Am I actually checked in?" I didn't want to sit there forever if my name wasn't on any kind of portal list. Not a soul could answer me. The nurse from the back was quite heated when she came out, as if I had been complaining about the wait. I never said a thing about the wait. It's expected that there will be a wait in the medical world. I just wanted to make sure I was checked in. It's clear that neither the front of house nurse nor the one from the back had any idea of how to work with patients. Fortunately, neither of them actually drew my blood. read more

Flor Fitzgerald, one of the Drawers, is terrific. Highly recommend her. She is ver professional, affable, and knows what she is doing; I literally do not feel the needle going into my arm, which is not always the case with other Drawers! One is in excellent hands with Flor. I also am always taken within 15 minutes when I go to the West 14th Street location (I never make an appointment; I show up every 8 weeks before my bi-monthly rheumatologist appointments.) My results always get to this office in 48 hours. read more

I will give them kudos for the online reservation system, which was flawless, but other than that this place is awful. First of all, I can't believe they are allowed to do medical testing in this location. It is filthy. The walls are darkened with dirt. Actual dirt. It looks like the place recently flooded and no one bothered to clean up. And second, I know I am a huge baby, but if you are in the medical profession, you should at least try to be sympathetic to people who hate needles. My tech had zero bedside manner. On the other hand, if you are scouting for locations and actors for a horror movie, look no further! read more

My experience was in line with Kevin L's. It is a sketchy-looking dungeon with a creepy supply room at the front that you could easily walk into while looking for the reception desk, but I walked in without an appointment after a physical upstairs, signed in at 9:45 and was out the door by 9:58. My phlebotomist was funny and distracted me while I was leaking blood. It's a blood lab, not a day spa, so adjust your expectations accordingly. read more

Such a joke. Plan 60-90 mins at least: even if you have documents and called ahead. Don't bother making an appointment. Walk past the rude doorman that can't be bothered to interrupt his phone conversation to do his job. Take the 1920's elevator to the 3rd floor (it's no longer in the basement...). And wait. And wait. And wait some more. The bored and careless staff won't care and couldn't be bothered to be fast or have any care. Then wait some more. If you are finally called upon, prepare for your tests and financial information to be heard by everyone else sitting and waiting. There is no privacy. Then get tested poorly. Finally, plan ahead to repeat everything when they neglect to perform all the tests that were on your order and repeat everything again. It's horrendous. Good luck! read more

They've moved up to the 3rd floor, where the seats are new, the walls are bright green, and the TV is a flatscreen. 9 AM on a Monday, as a walk-in, I was in and out the door in less than twelve minutes. And the blood tech was pretty excellent at drawing the blood from my tiny, unfriendly veins. read more

Just had my first physical since my Peace Corps days, and the doctor ordered up an extensive amount of blood work. Apparently the clinic of choice in this town is Quest Diagnostics, and they have locations just about every 10 blocks in Manhattan. This particular branch is located in a basement right off of the south side of west 14th street. They have two ladies at the front desk who take down all of your information. They are also the ladies who perform all of the blood tests too. Kind of an austere looking office, but I really wasn't there for very long. All in, without an appointment, I was in and out in under 30 minutes. I liked the efficiency of the visit, as I definitely have other things to attend to. Now I get to wait to see what my insurance covers, and what it does not. read more

This sucks. Simple blood work and I even made an appointment online. They never answer the phone. Two nurses in a small smelly basement and waiting room full of people. Appointments are supposed to get priority but they didn't care. I'm complaining to my doctor not to use them any more. read more

OMG, if you have any option at all to go some place other than Quest (at least the one on W. 14th), by all means, go somewhere else! I formerly went to LabCorp next door whenever I had bloodwork done for a physical, etc. Always a walk-in, and always in and out quickly. Easy-peasy. Professional, the works. With new insurance, I had to go to Quest, which is in my doctor's building, but, christ almighty, I waited over an hour to have blood drawn. There was ONE woman working: answering the phones, doing the paperwork, drawing blood--everything. And she was as slow as molasses in January. Unbelievable. There was a waiting room full of disgruntled people. It was a like a scene out of Beetlejuice, where your number is 998 trillion--and they're serving no. 3. I got there a little before 1:20, and a bit after 2:20, when we finally started my paperwork, another woman came in. She'd been to lunch. I firmly believe people should get their lunch hour, but this place is so unprofessionally run. It is nuts that there is ever one person there by herself. SAVE YOUR SANITY...and especially if you are ill...avoid Quest like the plague. read more

Why is it that places like this suck SO badly? I mean, what gets done there is not difficult or complicated and should not take more than a few minutes per person. The staff must be getting paid a somewhat decent amount (I.e for what tasks they're actually having to perform) and there are no managers breathing down their necks, asking for updates, etc. Yet consistently, the staff is not only rude and callous but clumsy, ignorant and error-prone. The actual building and physical office looks much shabbier than it needs to or should and what could just be an environment of "ok. Let's do this and get it done" is an "UGH why am I still sitting here? It's been over an hour and there were only two people in front of me to begin." Followed by physical pain as they are invariably too rough jabbing sharp metal objects through your skin resulting in bleeding, cuts, scarring, ruined cloths, etc. read more

I arrived early and the center opened a little late, but only a few minutes. When I got to the floor the attendant coldly told me to take a seat. there was no one else there. I had a small dog in my arms (less than 10 lbs) because I had to put his companion to sleep last week. Attendant asked if he was a service dog that dogs were not allowed and that I should leave. He told me there was a sign, (I looked at building entrance and found it after 3 tries, it was less than 6 inches at the street bottom of one of three entrance doors almost invisible, I had not seen it.) I needed a lyme test and felt sick, I went back upstairs and again asked it he would. I could have spoken nicer but was not at all aggressive. I felt sick and my dog is a frightened dog and was shaking. He said he would call the police if I did not leave. Seriously, this is health care? read more

I came here as a walk-in after Labcorp down the street refused to do my tests because of a missing NPI number on the order. I had no wait. The phlebotomist was friendly and had no problem taking 2 minutes to look up a missing number. Nice and clean, too. I'd definitely go back here if need be. read more

Very clean. Water available. I arrived without an appointment and waited about 10 to 15 minutes. A nice young lady name of Flor let me know I would be next. A few minutes later I was seated in the chair for Anyelina to take my blood specimens. Very easy and I could barely tell she had placed the needle for the draw. She had a light touch and was successful in taking my samples without leaving any bruises. The experience was excellent and I will return here should I have need to as directed by my Doctor. Go here. I've had a number of very good experiences here lately with Paulette, the nurse / phlebotomist. (I believe she also does some of the admin.) She was kind, very helpful, conscientious about germ prevention, got my vein on the first try, and had a light touch. I would definitely go back to her. It's true that the place doesn't look immaculate, but I felt secure there. UPDATE, May 2012 - Paulette has left the company for greener pastures, but I had a decent experience at this location, with another nurse/tech/phebotomist. read more

This is the third time I'd been to this location. Each time I've waited at least an hour for blood work. There always seems to be system malfunctions or one person working or phlebotomists not showing up. The service is fine, professional. But bring a book and get ready to wait. This is one of the worst companies I have ever dealt with. Their staff is often rude and keep everyone waiting, even with an appt. Now they do not have a working phone, so you cannot even call to find out if they received a faxed prescriptions. They are slow and incompetent. My doctor ordered a specialized test, and they did the WRONG test. Recently I had bloods drawn on Jan. 19, and the results did not come in until Feb. 4. The only reason I have continued to use them is b/c I can get results on-line, but it is not worth the aggravation of dealing with a bunch of hostile, incompetent people. I walked out. I made an appointment for 10:15 for a simple biometric test. I arrived at 10:05. There is no one to greet you. I waited and waited. No one in the waiting room was being helped. Then I saw a very unprofessional looking guy call someone back. Then at 10:35, my name was finally called. Oh just kidding. Someone with a 10:00 appointment who arrived well after 10 is next. The technicians here are very impatient and incompetent. We have to get biometrics done for our company each year. Weight/height etc. They measured my height a full 2.5 inches shorter than my actual measured height without shoes. When I brought this to their attention, they kept on insisting their measurement was right. We're not talking about a half an inch here. This throws off BMI calculations etc. that depend on an accurate height measurement. They then measure my BP 3 times, with my BP varying by about 30 to 35 points on both systolic and diastolic. I don't necessarily fault them for this in itself, but they seemed surprised and concerned for their liability when I didn't consent to them calling 911 over their highest BP measurement. These screenings only have value if technicians know how to do these measurements and don't have specious results or wildly different results between repeated measurements, or they recognize that their results may not be accurate and don't overreact because of "liability". read more

Go elsewhere. On a whole, Quest Diagnostics is a waste of time and extremely unprofessional. Had a scheduled appointment for a pre-employment screening for today. I scheduled my date & time online & was sent a email confirmation ( a week in advance). When I showed up 10 minutes early I was told they no longer handled pre-employment screening and was told it wasn't their problem that their website sent me a verification. The people at reception were rude and dismissive. Was told to go to their Third Avenue location where I was forced to wait for hours and was handled as a walk-in, even though i had a scheduled appointment and confirmation and all the necessary paperwork. LabCorp does it better on all accounts. read more

I must have got them on a good day. Today I went for blood test. No appointment. Signed in, waited about ten minutes, they called my name, found vein on first try (mine can be hard to find), and I was out of there in about 15 minutes, max. People nice, no hassles. read more

Said they take Medicare but warned Medicare might not cover my (very routine) tests and neither the receptionist nor her supervisor had any way to find out whether my tests would be covered. ("You will find out when you get your bill in two weeks. We don't do the billing.") Gave me phone number for their billing office which puts you on hold with no estimated time and didn't answer before I gave up after 10 minutes. They couldn't access my Quest records from another Quest location out of state and they didn't take me until 30 minutes after my appointment. read more
