My arm and the gauze 5 hours after a simple blood draw.

I love the convenience of Quest, and have for years. Unfortunately, I had a bad experience today. I debated about sharing it, but feel this is the best way to caution others because--in this case--a bit of harm was done. I went in for a 1:10 pm scheduled appointment of a simple blood draw today. Please understand this is not age discrimination when I say a quite older lady was the only one working today. She was very nice, but I got the feeling that this one might hurt a bit. (She was the only one working and seemed hurried; I was in the middle of front-to-back appointments; she took me right in the second her previous customer crossed the door frame. Seems to me phlebotomists usually take a few moments between clients to get settled and handle paperwork). The pain was pretty horrible. When it was over, she placed a big wad of gauze on my arm and advised me to not carry anything with it for 30 minutes. When I got to my car, I looked down and realized I'd substantially bled into the gauze...it was like another test sample! You can also see the aftermath bruise 5 hours later. At 57, I've never seen anything besides a Band-aid after a blood draw. I will add that I am not low on red blood cells or platelets, so there's no reason I would have bled this much from a single stick. From what I've read, these issues happened from poor technique or a needle too large for the task. (I had several tests listed, so perhaps she used a really big needle to draw a large amount of blood faster? It hurt like HELL. It's not usually fun, but it felt like a cannula. Ouch!) If you are the lady who drew my blood, please don't think I've intended malice. Perhaps you need more help behind you and more time between customers. I wish the best for you and hope Quest can provide better support as you do your job. I think you were too rushed with me. I've had big groups of vials of blood drawn before, and this never happened. It's not a tragedy, but it was painful and a little unsafe. I'm only leaving this review because those who are anemic or have a bleeding disorder could be harmed in a situation like this. People who touch people ARE NOT ROBOTS! Value human employees and accommodate them! I loved that lady for the wisdom she shared. She matters.

Went in as a walk-in. Only waited a few minutes. Reason for low rating: phlebotomist does NOT know what she is doing. I have never lost this much blood doing lab work. The pain was horrible.

Located in the back of Randalls. Next to the pharmacy.

Chose Randall's location...tech was really nice. I didn't have an appointment and only waited 20 mins at the most.

Phlebotomists are great: I've had Jennifer and Dawn, and both were friendly, professional, and got 3+ vials without pain. Front desk staff are hit or miss -- I've gotten some curt responses, especially over the phone, but mostly friendly ones. It's not a huge deal, but I have a similar job and have always made an effort to be pleasant even when I'm losing my mind under stress. The clinic itself is clean, comfortable, and I'm glad to see they are following social distancing techniques for the waiting room (blocking off chairs, no more checking in via communal touchscreen). I was surprised they didn't separate out used pens but otherwise I didn't feel like my safety was endangered by my visit. One note about this clinic: when my labs are faxed in physically, they don't ever seem to get to the clinic. I don't know if this is an incoming or outgoing fax issue, but my recommendation is to always call ahead and double-check to see if your labs are there before you leave the house.

And somehow... every single year... they magically bill me for something that should've been covered. At first I thought it was just one of those annoying insurance mix-ups. But after spending at least an HOUR every year playing mediator between the doctor, insurance company, and lab, it's starting to feel less like "oops" and more like a seasonal tradition. Usually they eventually fix it after I call enough times. Other times I've honestly just paid it because I value my sanity. This there were two tests I knew insurance wouldn't cover, paid for them upfront with my credit card, had the doctor separate them on a different form, AND asked for a receipt. The receipt only had the amount paid -- no description. Which already felt a little "interesting." Convenient that for some reason they have no way of putting a description what I paid for on this but every time they send me a bill it has a very accurate description of what they are billing me for. It's sad that it comes to me having to cord this interaction to protect myself. So I asked on video: "So these definitely will not be billed to insurance since I'm paying here?" Receptionist: "Yes." Fast forward to this week: guess who just got billed $36 for those exact same tests. At this point I'm not even mad about the money. It's the principle. Because I know a lot of people probably just sigh dramatically, pay the $30, and move on. But no. Not this year. This year I will be returning like a low-budget legal drama with my receipt, my credit card statement, AND my little video clip. Honestly the phlebotomists are sweet, but the front office acts like kindness costs extra. They are shockingly rude! So if this place keeps overbilling you too: fight it. Even if it's annoying. Or save yourself the headache and find a friendlier lab who doesn't routinely try to keep an extra 15- 30 from every visit.
