Our 1940s house has some nice 1940s door hardware. It looks cool and adds charm to the place ...  BUT: last night, the ancient lock mechanism on our bedroom door broke and my wife was locked in. After many attempts to break in from the outside without ruining the door, I bit the bullet and called Non-Stop Locksmith. In less than a half hour, Adam was at the door with his toolkit. Because the old mechanism was trashed, he was unable to open the door from the outside. So he went outside, clambered through the bushes and stickers at the side of our house carrying a ladder, and climbed up to come in the second-story window. It was raining and had been for all day, so struggling through the bushes with a ladder was even less fun than it ordinarily would have been. In a matter of minutes, he had the door open and our problem solved. Adam was fast, friendly, and extremely competent; it was great to watch him quickly size up the situation and run through the available options, before going into second-story mode. Great service offered by Quick Key. I called them up in the morning to take care of the door that connects between the garage and the kitchen and they showed up in couple of hours. We were unable to open the door as the spring from the handle was broken from the inside. So we had a last minute, on a weekend, leaving town tomorrow, need extra key for house/pet sitter kind of drama today. I had gone to OSH to copy our one working original-got 3 keys. Took 'em home and guess what?! Not one worked, and I had somehow lost the original between there and here. Called Quick Key in a bit of a panic. I called Quick Key Locksmith when I needed to add locks to the doors in my house after it became clear that my 3-year old was interested in exploring the neighborhood on his own. Most people need locks to keep people out of their homes, but I seem to be at a stage in life in which keeping people in is more critical. Udi's workmanship and integrity were very clear to me, and this was incredibly refreshing. My past experiences with locksmiths have not been particularly good - think shady and possibly illegal. Udi asked me how I had heard of him, and I mentioned that I found out about him on Yelp, and he gave me a discount because of a promotion that had been posted at the time. I thought that was very honest of him, as I had not even asked about the discount. I was very happy with the work he did, and he left things just as he had found them (only with childproofing added and another fix he recommended to add security). Useless. Refused to come out when called. Keep away. Not much point of you can't get them to come out when needed.

We called Quick Key because of their excellent reviews but were very disappointed with the final results on new installs. Adam was to install several deadbolts and re-key all locks to the same key. He accomplished all the re-keying successfully but the new deadbolt installs are a different story. For NONE of them was the hole opposite the bolt long enough to accept the full length of the deadbolt! A properly installed deadbolt has the face plate where the bolt comes out of the door recessed and not just screwed on the face of the door like Adam left it on the front door. The garage deadbolt does have the faceplate recessed but that wood work and the hole for the deadbolt were sloppily done. The locksmith we hired to replace the entire front door handle said the deadbolts Adam installed should have come with a security strike but Adam did not install them. We did not go back to Quick Key for the front door handle replacement because we wanted it done correctly. Adam is a very pleasant person and can re-key just fine but any new lock installs (not replacements) should be left to someone else who will do a properly finished job. The face plate for the deadbolt should be recessed into the wood and not protrude. The door should close and lock without having to adjust the door position to throw the deadbolt. read more

We had an ancient deadbolt with no key and we were worried that with such an old deadbolt we'd actually need to replace the door to get a working deadlock. However, Ethan looked at what we had and was able to give us some options and within 20 minutes we had a working deadbolt with key!
