Issue: My 2014 Kia refuses to drive over 45 miles per hour. Jiffy Lube: "We cannot work on a car that has the engine light flashing" I coast down the hill to a place that has "Christian" in the title. Naive, naive, naive. The place is willing to look at my car that day. Wonderful. It's the morning. They'll let me know when they're done. I walk all over Evans since it's a lovely day. They have my car past 5:00. So it's been... 6-7 hours. Luckily I didn't have work. Finally I wait in the building so I don't get locked out past closing time. Eventually, I'm told "You're going to need an entirely new engine. Your car isn't safe to drive." I'm shaken. I had just bought the car less than 3 months ago. I ask if they know any tow truck services they trust so I can take my car home, as I was a pharmacy technician at the time and flat broke. I had spent that March through August walking everywhere I needed, so I just accepted my fate of walking everywhere once more until I could figure out how to save for a multi-thousand dollar fix. The person at the front desk then says "Oh, it's not serious enough that you need a tow." My inner dialogue went "Hm.. but you just said my engine needs to be replaced. My car isn't safe to drive... why WOULDNT I need a tow truck?" So I pay the $91 diagnostic fee on my credit card, a bit dumbfounded that $100, which was the equivalent to working 6 hours overtime at my full time job to afford the service, fixed nothing. My engine is to give out at any second, but I'm okay to drive home? Quite embarrassed, I called my veteran friend who came over that afternoon, ran a test on his diagnostic machine, and asked if I hit a bump recently. I did. He told me I had activated some sort of knock sensor when I did that, which then activated a safety mechanism, which was why my car wouldn't go over 45. He cleared the code on his device, and my car was magically fixed :) A year later, my car is still running great. No further issues. So I recommend avoiding this place. My friend fixed the issue in five minutes for the price of a thank you coffee while this establishment took an entire business day to attempt to scam me into buying a whole new engine without clearing the code to allow me to safely drive home until I could afford their "fix." Anyone who knows the driving culture in Augusta would understand that driving under 45 is dangerous business around all the irritated, impatient car-owners in this city. I don't appreciate anyone who uses scare tactics to uneducated, trusting people. It's embarrassing to be treated as if I'm stupid when in reality, I never had a father to show me how to run simple tests on my car to try and resolve issues myself. Rather shameful to lure people in with Christian decor when taking advantage of people in my opinion, but that's just my thoughts.

When dropping off my car, we told the team (including the owner, Mr. Andy) that I needed my car back by the weekend because I needed to drive back to Virginia. He said no problem. Thursday, we called and left messages asking if my car was ready/asking what work may be needed. Nobody picked up and nobody called back. On Friday, we drove up to the shop to see they were closed (it was Good Friday and the shop was closed in observance of the religious holiday). This shop is also closed over the weekend, so I couldn't return home and to work on time. I have no issue with businesses observing holidays, especially those of religious observances, my issue is with not communicating to your customers. Not only did Andy's Automotive not uphold their word of having my car back by the weekend, but they also didn't notify me when dropping off that they would be taking the holiday. If I had known that, I would've made sure to stop by in person on Wednesday. Or Thursday. Or take my car to C&C Automotive like I used to do before I moved away. When I came to pick my car up, the lady manning the front desk said they didn't get a message. My mother told her she called a few times, I called, nobody called back. The lady said they didn't get any messages. Not one message was received? That seems like something else that needs to be remedied besides their communication practices. So I asked for Mr. Andy. He came to the office and I asked him if we could talk about what happened with my car. I said I dropped my car off last Tuesday for an oil change and a service light but needed my car by the weekend so I could be back at work by Monday. He looked at me and said, "Well todays Monday!" I reminded him that I don't live here and that's why I asked if it would be done by the weekend. He responded that he "dropped the ball" and didn't know what to tell me. He said he's been in business for 37 years and he dropped the ball. How about "I'm sorry?" How about "I'm sorry about that" and pretending to have empathy. I looked at him stunned that a business owner seemed to so openly not give a shit as to how his and his team's error not just inconvenienced a customer but cost them serious time away from work. I live in Virginia. Not just a trip over the bridge into North Augusta. Picking up my car today means that I can't leave for another day because of the ten-hour drive. He said he doesn't make up stories and excuses when he messes up and that if I "can't appreciate the truth that [he] doesn't know what to tell me." The biggest F-You I think I've ever gotten from someone that actually messed up. So I told him that "I appreciate the truth but what I don't appreciate is the attitude." And I gestured to his receptionist and himself. He got in a huff and walked away into another part of the office and slammed the door. As an employee that gets monthly vacation hours, I don't have the luxury to take a long weekend without penalty somehow. I don't have any problem with businesses taking the time they need for themselves and their families. What I have a problem with is when you tell your customers you can accommodate something and you don't. If he couldn't honor that he should've communicated before the weekend so I could've made other arrangements. My other issue is that if my car was ready to be picked up when I called first thing this morning, how long has my car been done? When was Andy's Automotive going to call and tell me my car was finished? All my car needed was an oil change so it's been sitting in their fenced area since Tuesday, with no communication to me that my car was done. TLDR: I dropped my car off for an oil change and a service due now alert, it took a week to get it back with constant unanswered calls. Take your car to any other shop in the CSRA, your business and time will be respected and appreciated more.

My four new tires were replaced and balanced in one hour and fifteen minutes on a Saturday (as a counter example Sam's and Goodyear have taken around 3 hours to do the same work). I called around to compare prices and Marc Yount's was cheaper than every tire place within 15 minutes of my apartment including Jim Whitehead and Tires Plus. Four Michelin Defender's for my 2011 Focus were 599$ (total walk out price after taxes). When comparing tire prices be SURE to ask for the walk-out price, balances and new valves can vary, as can service fees and other bull. You get FREE TIRE ROTATION, you read that right. That was frustrating, especially with a scheduled appointment. What really bothered me was the diagnostic fee. They charged $160 to diagnose an issue that turned out to be low fluid, something that felt pretty obvious and quick to identify. I've always understood that if you move forward with the repair, the diagnostic fee is typically applied or waived, but that wasn't the case here. The $350 for the transmission fluid flush itself seemed reasonable, but adding the $160 on top of that for such a simple diagnosis didn't sit right. Overall, not a terrible experience, but definitely not one that left me feeling great either.
