Pat's towing is the company the city of Somerville uses for its towing needs. My car was towed…read moreduring a snow emergency in 2022, so I called Pat's to pick it up. While unexpected towing is never a great thing, I do think Pat's warrants a low rating from me based on my following experience: -the pricing is not transparent. On the city of Somerville's website, it states that towing for a snow emergency is 106, plus 36 a day for storage. However, when I got to pats, I also had an extra $50 charge added to my vehicle because they had further transported it to a different facility after they had towed it. I didn't ask them to do this? The car was in their possession from Friday AM to Sunday AM, and there was less than 24 hours from when the snow emergency ended (Saturday) to when I picked it up on Sunday. I can understand needing to move cars if they're stored long term, but two days and less than 24 hrs past the end of a snow emergency is not long term. This price is not available on their website or the city of Somerville's, and when I called Pats over the weekend, no one mentioned this relocation fee. -Car damage: Prior to my car being towed by Pat's, it was in great condition--it's a 2018 with less than 65k miles on it. When I picked the car up from Pat's, my battery was COMPLETELY dead. My windshield wipers had been raised upright by the company--I don't know if this is necessary when you tow a car or not? My battery was so dead that multiple jumps were needed, and a few days later the battery died again. Additionally, the touchscreen and entertainment system inside my car will not start anymore, despite being reset. This damage 100% is a result of my car being towed. -the only reason for a 2 star review vs 1 star is that the gentlemen who helped me at Pat's once I was there were very nice and professional. I was polite and professional to them and this was reciprocated. As having your car towed is a stressful situation, I appreciated that their personnel were nice, polite, and professional--not adding more stress to an already messed up situation. Overall: I understand that Somerville needs to tow cars during a snow emergency and I'm not disputing that. However, the non transparent pricing, plus the fact that my car's wipers were messed with, my previously pristine car is now damaged, and my car will at a minimum need a new battery and possibly a new electrical system or touchscreen/stereo/navigation unit--is highly messed up and not acceptable for a towing company.
