Wow! Get a load of that amazingly empty coffee "selection!"
    Will H.

Today's "self checkout" experience (as there were no cashiers in sight): After scanning items, the terminal screen says "waiting on cashier." I subsequently press the button "call for help" as this makes no sense. A very very friendly (no, he was actually a gruff jerk) employee named Al popped up behind the counter and explained in an authoritatively annoyed tone: "the cashier is you." So...what do you do Al? The guys at the gas pumps are usually fine. Going inside the store? Just try not to. The "food" is all junk and the coffee is "subpar" to put it kindly. Service? Fuhgeddaboutit. Rather, expect to be insulted by the staff and blamed for having any sort of question that requires them to do their job. I'm a big boy and l can take it, but with the level of competition in this marketplace, I don't need to. So why bother? After all, I'm sure Al would agree!

I dont know if they weren't expecting the crowd that they got, but it got very loud to the point you could barely hear the band. Kept getting bumped into by other patrons hanging around our table, hanging on our table, etc. There were only 2 people working the bar with such a crowd that it took almost 20 minutes just to get someone's attention when we wanted to settle up. We wanted to stay longer but it was just way too crowded. I really dont know if I'll go back.

I stopped into Tindall Road Brewery for an after-dinner drink with a few friends, and found myself…read morein one of those odd little scenes that makes you wonder if you've walked into the wrong play. Out front, every table was packed shoulder to shoulder with what appeared to be a local running group in post-run celebration. Laughter, sweat, and IPAs filled the air. Inside, however, it was the crowd was sparse, save for two small groups competing in Harry Potter trivia, an event we hadn't realized was happening. After the first round, one of those tables gave up and left. That should have made the place quieter, but the trivia host's amplifier made sure it did not. Even from the far corner, it was nearly impossible to hold a conversation without shouting. It was as though someone had mistaken the volume knob for a test of strength. The bartender, to his great credit, was friendly and quick, the kind of person who makes you feel like maybe the night will work out after all. The beers themselves were fine. I tried the Pineapple Express milkshake IPA and the porter. Both were serviceable, neither was memorable. The brewery allows outside food, which is a small mercy. Being on Farnsworth, there are plenty of good places to bring something in from. They also sell simple snacks like chips and jerky, a practical touch that suits the space. Still, the whole experience left me puzzled. The place seems to want to be a neighborhood hub, but it can't decide whether to be a quiet refuge or a loud event hall. Empty yet loud, welcoming yet difficult to linger in. I wouldn't drive out of my way to return, but if a friend suggested meeting there, I'd go. I'd just hope the trivia host had the night off.

In fact, my main reason for coming was that I was curious about those. But after a meal in Btown the pale, medium sized specimens that had likely sat in their warming case for hours did not beckon me. So I checked out the 8 or so "artisan" options and decided on chocolate. All of the flavors appeared to be closer to gelato, but maybe because they were displayed in metal tubs as gelato places often do. It was dark looking and appeared to be dense, but the flavor was not dark. It was dense but not creamy. The best thing I can say about it is that it was not overly sweetened. My friend had the coconut flavor, and she was not wowed either. It's a cute shop that has housed other ice cream businesses in the past. I liked those more. But there are interesting items for sale such as candy, teas and gifts. The website states that they are affiliated with the Candy Jar in Collingswood, of which I have had occasion to visit in a previous life. Customer service was 4 stars, maybe I'll get back to try the empanadas......
