I had a great time trying one of the escape rooms in Quicksand Escape Games. My group played Chinatown, and we escaped with just about 2 minutes left to spare! Our key master was Sarah, and she was amazing! She was very kind and explained the rules clearly. Throughout the game she was there to help us when we needed it. We thought she was so patient and we really could not have escaped without her help. If you are looking for an escape room to try, this is the location to go. The location was clean, fun, and thrilling. I would definitely go again.

The staff was friendly and my friends and I had a great time. Taking away stars because the room wasn't fully reset for us and the key to the escape was literally left in the door- despite that mishap we continued to play and figure out the clues in the spirit of the game. Staff was friendly and the front desk associate apologized for the room not being fully reset. Challenges were difficult but fun to figure out as a group.

Been to a few escape rooms and this is one of the best ones I've been to in SD! Super clean which I appreciate. We did Chinatown and it was perfect for 3 people with a challenging yet linear storyline. Definitely want to go back to try some of the other rooms. Parking wasn't bad as there is a lot right behind that charges 7 dollars for 1 hour or 10 for 2 hours.

    We escaped both rooms. Yah.

Awesome customer service. Great rooms. We had a ton of fun and happy we were able to do two rooms when visiting on the weekend. They were open late which was a plus. Would love to do their rooms again. They were unique and challenging.

We did "speakeasy nouveau" and had a blast with the three of us! I was down this way celebrating a birthday girl who (long story short) couldn't make it, so I attempted to cancel the reservation. They have a no-cancellation policy in place after x amount of hours, and since it was an hour before that I realized she wouldn't be coming, I was worried about losing $100+. Greg (manager) was very kind over the phone, and even with this policy in place he was working with me for a while to resolve my worry of doing what we could to decrease the damage, also by opening up the room to the public once more to see if anyone would be able to take the time slot and I wouldn't have to lose out. Well, some other friends were convinced to come along with me and I felt a little sheepish after all the trouble I put Greg through. Sarah was our game host though and her being so bubbly got me right out of my funk. 5/5 customer service from both! The room itself was very creative and we loved the newer automations! We won't give anything away, but WE ESCAPED! There was one part that we felt was difficult but didn't HAVE to be as difficult as it was (relied on something "none of us had" to keep it vague) but we told Sarah about it and we're hoping they adjust it for the rest of you. I still highly recommend this room. Online reservations were made for a Sunday night, and while the later events booked quick they still had a decent amount of availability for a day-of reservation. Thank you Quicksand, we're excited to come back!

Escaped Room No. 195: The Family Cabin

Escaped room No. 195! I WISH I MADE THIS MY 200TH ROOM! The Family Cabin, sounds scary, but it's for those who grew up in the 90s and will have you feeling all kinds of feels while playing this awesome room at Quicksand Escape Games! I haven't played their other rooms, but this is their newer room and I felt it was fun, nostalgic and well worth the trip to play! My mom also thoroughly enjoyed it and it brought her back to when my brother and I were youngins'. I was in awe after playing this room! Highly recommend!

Speakeasy similar in terms of production but didn't quite rise to the level of Cabin in terms of puzzles.

The Escape Game is different than any I've been to because they allow and encourage the use of photos and filming during the game. You will see so many social media reels of this particular room. Afterwards, I realized, OMG the answers were clearly given out in the reels many times! We had so much fun. My favorite by far. Made us felt like a kid again and definitely had all of us contributing, studying and playing together. Such a clever game! Well thought out and as players, you just need to listen carefully starting w the very FIRST clue! We asked for help a few times. Sadly we didn't unlock the last lock on time but they graciously let us finish with a few minutes after the deadline. Parking at UTC is free thr first hour. Use GPS to take you directly to the parking lot. There's a ticket booth in front of the Escape room if you want to pay in advanced when you exit.

You can tell they genuinely want you to have a great time. The rooms themselves are incredibly creative and immersive, with puzzles that go far beyond the usual "open another lock" style. They're detailed, clever, and full of surprises. I've done 3 of the 5 rooms so far, and every single group I've gone with has had an absolute blast. Something that really matters to me is having a private room. It makes the entire experience so much more enjoyable and comfortable, whether you're going with family, friends, or coworkers. Some escape rooms try to maximize capacity by filling rooms with as many people as possible, and that often means I don't get a fair chance to participate in the puzzles (which can be frustrating). At Lara's Labyrinth, every room is completely private, so you're never paired with strangers, and your group can fully enjoy the experience together. Whether you're brand new to escape rooms or a seasoned pro, Lara's Labyrinth delivers a fun, memorable experience every time. Highly recommend!

We were a little confused with a couple of the puzzles, but appreciated the helpful clues from Nassir. Having seen the movie (Shawshank) was a bonus. Take you're reading glasses, you'll need them. The lighting in there played tricks on my eyes at times. It was just my husband and I in the room, but we made it out in time! :D Make sure to arrive ahead of time. Although there seemed to be a lot of street parking, we had to circle through a few times to find a spot (10:30ish on a Saturday). Then, when we were leaving, we got stuck in the elevator. Luckily, we made it to the 1st floor (they're on the 3rd) with the doors slightly opened. I pressed the alarm button to get someone's attention. A guy coming in the building pulled the door open for us to get out. :{ So, if you're physically able.......take the stairs.

I found it to be better than a haunted house, cuz I was so enveloped with figuring out the clues that I would forget about the scares and I never knew when the scares would come. It was a multi room escape room and I would consider it a medium to hard level. Our game master was super friendly and helpful when we needed hints. I think we did a total of two hint through out the game and we managed to beat the clock and got out in time! The parking wasn't the best, it was all street parking with meters. When you get to the location it is a bit hard to find the front door because it is on the back side of the building up some stairs. But there is some signage to help you find the door if you get lost.

However, the Japanese Thriller barely felt on theme with the serial killer storyline other than the introduction video we received. I prefer escape rooms where I actually feel like I'm part of the story. This was a very different escape room than I have done before. While you always have to split up for escape rooms, this time we were forced to separate between multiple rooms so you had no idea how the other group was doing (this isn't great when you're forced to solve the room with strangers because you have no idea if they know what they're doing). It was definitely more chaotic than other escape rooms I've done. The rooms were small and they use locks for a lot of the puzzles, which isn't innovative. They also forgot to put back one of the pieces we needed to get the final combination, so we almost didn't make it out because we had to keep guessing. HOWEVER, the worst part of the entire experience was how RUDE the man was that was helping us on the walkie talkie. He would give us attitude every time we asked for a clue. Why give clues if you're going to rude when people use them?

A couple months ago, three friends and I did them back to back, starting with Black and White Cafe. It was a great way to spend a rainy Saturday afternoon, and I definitely recommend starting with Black and White Cafe if you do that. It's a lot easier and a good warmup for Moriarty's Manor. Black and White Cafe is aesthetic, cozy, and clever. Moriarty's Manor, on the other hand, is the hardest escape room I've done so far. Our group of four made it out with just seven seconds to spare!! (We had two beginners who had each done 2-3 rooms and two intermediates who had each done 10-12 prior to that day.) The combo of puzzles was SO good, with lots of variety and opportunities for different skill sets to shine. I like that MindFox gives unlimited hints but that everyone in the group has to agree to receive a hint. I thought the gamemasters were super personable and helpful. It's difficult to review escape rooms because you don't want to give things away -- so just take my word for it and check this place out! (Just don't start with Moriarty's Manor if your group is all beginners; practice on some other rooms first.) They told us they're opening up a third room later this year, so my friends and I will definitely be back for that!
