Had to waste an extra morning to sort out a smog check. When I arrived at the Bureau of Automotive Repair state referee service appointment, he looked over the paperwork that I had showed the Quiksmog technician and cocked his head saying "[the quiksmog tech] really denied you over this?" Turns out that all catalytic converters manufactured and installed before 2009 were grandfathered in. I even had paperwork to prove professional installation in 2002 (which I had showed to the Quiksmog tech). Referee smogged and passed my vehicle in 15 minutes the way it should have been done. Quiksmog... if you're going to be a stickler to the letter of the law, you need to KNOW the letter of law. Learn to do your job right and don't waste my time making up for your ignorance!!! 0-star worthy. read more

Wish I had not gone to this place. By the way, it cost $41.75 with a $20 off coupon if your car fails the smog test. It costs $8.25 more if your car passes. My car failed because I had recently changed the battery and the "Catalyst" wasn't ready yet. The guy was very vague about what to do about that...maybe drive on the freeway for a while. And, a retest at this place is not free, 50% off of their wishy washy pricing system, but definitely not free. For the retest I will be taking my car to a place in SJ that charges $29.95 and includes retesting for free rather than pay basically that at Quik Smog. read more

Fast and friendly. On my first attempt my car registered as not ready, probably because I'd been messing with the battery earlier in the day. Was given instructions on how to get it ready and brought it back later in the week. Passed the second time. The mechanic then took the time to point out a damaged hose that I should get replaced the next time I get it serviced. That was much appreciated. Took about 15-20 minutes each visit. He asked if I have the coupon, and replied yes. I had a coupon for 20 off, and he said he can do it for 40, but confirmed the year and that it was a passenger car. The technician is very friendly and professional. My car didn't pass the first time because certain tests were not ready. He explained to me in detail on how to get the car ready for a retest and recommended a tool to check the readiness before coming in. After doing what he suggested, I came in when the car became ready and the car did pass the check smoothly. Every two years my car goes through an ordeal w/ smog, mainly because i drive on surface streets and this causes the smog computer on my car to turn off its monitors, which in turn causes my car to fail smog. The failure is due to the computer not monitoring, even though the fumes out the exhaust pipe are well within limits. So, I took my car to Quiksmog, and they did a quick check on the car's diags, and sure enough, the car's smog monitors weren't enabled. So far this is the same thing I've dealt with for years. But, for the first time ever, the smog tech gave me a driving sheet on how to drive my car to get the computer to wakeup. It was a little bit of a hassle to drive my car around in a funny pattern, but this allowed the car's monitors to come back to life. And then of course the rest of the car was fine. Now, if only the state of California wouldn't cause me to drive an extra 50-100 miles to get my car's monitors enabled. read more

What a great place. A $29.99 online coupon, no waiting and a really nice guy, Anselmo, working there. He's an owner operator and treats you great. Greeted me with a smile and had me in and out in only 10 minutes. Even though he is a test only center, he is an ASE (Automotive Service Excellence) Master mechanic. His shop is spotless and well organized. Great price and service. Very conveniently located too. The best part is a single price, while some other places have different prices for small car and big car or will bait and switch you with a coupon with alot of restrictions. That's a total rip off. A smog test is a smog test. The only major difference is 2 wheel drive vs 4 wheel drive or if you vehicle is older then 1995 (different computer interface). So other places are ripping you off if they charge you for a bigger vehicle like an SUV. Anselmo has only one price, except for the above mentions older vehicle charge, which does involve more work. I took my Pathfinder to do smog check on Sunday morning (yes, they open on Sunday), and my old truck has a little problem to pass. The technician, Steve, turned on his laptop and googled for me the problem, and explained in detail what the problem is and how to get it fixed. I could not do it right away so I left. I got back after 5 PM and he was waiting for me after the close hour, and re-did everything and it passed. Along the way we chatted, he was very knowledgeable about cars, and explained the difference in engine types and stuff, and what a humble, nice person he is! BTW before I went there I printed online coupon, but he said he will apply the other one which gives deeper discount! Honesty is not an everyday virtue you can find in this business, and he made my otherwise tiresome Sunday so pleasant. I wanted to tip him, just not sure if that is an insult so I did not do it. He is a skinny guy in mid-age, I am not sure if he is the owner or just work there, in all regards, I will give 10 stars if that is available. read more

BEWARE.. And pay extra attention to this station. I brought my car in for smog test because of the $20 online coupon. If you're not paying attention he will toggle his magic "FAILED" result appears on the test screen when testing the fuel cap. So that he can sell you a generic/fuel cap cheap crap one . HE HAD MY fuel cap FAILED the test and insisted that I have to pay for the "cheap crap - generic fuel cap". I requested him to retest it and guess what it PASSED. I had my fuel cap tested at two other different stations just to make sure nothing's wrong, and it PASSED. And I was confirmed that my fuel cap is still almost new and in pretty darn good condition. I needed to find a STAR inspection station and I went to a bunch of SMOG places local to the Sunnyvale and Santa Clara area. Like most of you probably already know, they all seemed sketchy to say the least. Was hating the idea of having to horse trade like I was making a deal in Deli India and getting taken to the cleaners in the process. I stumbled upon this place through smogtips.com where Quicksmog showed up with a coupon. I went there and the prices were posted on a sign in the open, in ENGLISH. The facility was clean, well organized and professional looking. Anselmo came up to me and greeted me. I didn't have to hunt around for somebody. He told me the total price for the star smog test of $70. No hidden costs or BS. I showed him the coupon and he happily deducted $30 off the quote. No.. really.. he HAPPILY did it. He didn't growl, or start stuttering out some BS story about how the coupon expired, passed, mistake, other guy, new owner, etc.. He just smiled, told me that it would take about 20 minutes (which he finished in 15) and invited me to have a seat while he took care of it. I couldn't have had a better experience. He even check and inflated my tires to my preferred pressure while he had it on the Dyno. In my humble opinion, you don't find honest SMOG places like this guy very often.
