What made the situation significantly worse was how the person identifying themselves as the General Manager handled it. After being made aware of the issue, instead of having a completely new burger prepared, they took the SAME burger back and RINSED IT WITH WATER in an attempt to remove the toppings/mayonnaise and give it back to me. That is completely unacceptable when dealing with a food allergy. Rinsing a burger does not undo allergen contact or make the food safe for someone with an allergy. Once I explained that I was allergic, there should have been no question that the contaminated burger needed to be discarded and a fresh one prepared. A simple order mistake is one thing. What concerns me far more is that someone in a management position apparently thought washing a burger with water was an appropriate way to handle an allergen issue. I hope Wendy's corporate management takes this seriously and ensures this location and its management receive proper food-allergy and food-safety training. No customer should have to worry about their health because an allergy was handled this carelessly.
