We had the grilled cheese today. It was not so good and overpowered by the poor seed oil they used to cook with. I asked for some Tabasco sauce to help make the sandwich more palatable to eat, instead of being brought a bottle like most restaurants would give you they gave me a condiment cup full of Tabasco sauce, too much for anyone to use. When the bill came for an extra 50 Cent charge for it, I didn't fight it because it was 50 Cent and I just wanted to leave, but it was frustrating. I've never been charged for condiments / hot sauce at a restaurant I'm giving two stars because the server was nice and patient while we figured out what my little one needed to order she had to come back to the table a couple times, but they should have mentioned the surcharge for the hot sauce at the time that I requested it. Came here today for lunch on a whim after hiking. The outside had some seating to wait for a table as they were quite busy. Once inside it was cozy and active. We went then and this weekend we went back again for lunch before we toured the Dahlanega square. Oh my! Spirits Tavern definitely has the best burgers in Dahlonega, and they may have some of the best burgers in all of Georgia. After walking around the Square and reading the reviews on yelp, I decided to try Spirits Tavern. I was not disappointed. The interior of the restaurant has a cool theme in the way that they combined ghoulish spirits from the afterlife with a full bar of spirits for alcoholic beverages. Everyone I spoke with, including Cole and Rose at the bar, and Bella outside at the hostess stand, highly recommended the burgers. I was initially drawn to the gooey burger Which sounds like the ultimate cheesy burger. I was also interested in trying the mac & cheese bites based upon the high number of reviews that mentioned this starter on the menu. I decided to go with the rude awakening burger, and Cole the bartender pointed out that I could order the mac & cheese bites as a premium side. It was pretty much the perfect combination. The burgers are made to order, and they Cook the perfect medium rare burger. From the very first bite, I was left with the impression that this might be the best burger I've had in Georgia. The next time I find myself in Dahlonega, I'll definitely return to Spirits Tavern and bring my family as well. I visited this eatery in December 2023 during a visit to Dahlonega. It is conveniently located in the city square. We actually tried to view this past December, but couldn't fathom the 2-hour wait. The food is really tasty.This is an elevated tavern experience, where you find the warm community and good beverages of a tavern but with food that value thoughtful use of high-quality ingredients. Every thing we ate was delicious - from the Brussels sprouts to the fried green tomatoes to the burgers (Dragon's Breath for me, the chicken Imposter for my husband). We stopped here in this precious town square for lunch on our way to do a section hike on the AT. We were pretty hungry and everything looked good. We tried the Kalettes and they were fantastic! I could have eaten a whole other order by myself. My friend and I both got the patty melt on sourdough and they were tasty. My friend had the chili and said it was good and had a little spice. I had the tomato soup and it was just ok. The service was fantastic and the atmosphere was laid back. We didn't have any drinks while we were here but would if we were to visit here again. The burgers that other people got also looked really good! We almost drove out of our way to go here again on the way home but we were tired after 40 miles of hiking and wanted to get home. Located just off the main square in the quaint town of Dahlonega is Spirits Tavern. What intrigued me to dine here is the great online reviews and the pictures a coworker shared from when she had visited, and we weren't disappointed. The owners have set up a decent tavern with plenty of spirits (alcohol), but also dabbled with a bit of spirit (ghost) theming, so it's got decent atmosphere and it's no wonder they often have waits to dine on weekends. We started off with the chick bites (5/5). These were perfectly seasoned and very tender chicken bites that were cooked to perfection. They serve a decent portion and we agreed they were high quality and tasted delicious. We ordered burgers (4.5/5) since those were mentioned most in the reviews, and these were also perfectly prepared to our specifications...just a very high quality and tasty burger made by a cook who really knows how to serve up a good burger. The fries and tots (4/5) that came as sides with the burgers were both above average and complemented the meals well. Although we didn't get too much food, we loved what we ordered, and agreed Spirits Tavern would be our go-to for food when we return to Dahlonega. While my expectations are generally tempered when it comes to pub/tavern food, Spirits Tavern delivered and is just about as good as it gets for food, so highly recommend it for a meal in Dahlonega.
