We settled on Clyde's Tavern for a late lunch midweek after picking up ammo from Cleveland Liquidation on Helen Highway. Found parking right in front on the square & there is also a little bit of parking in the back. Even at 2 pm this old timey establishment on the square in Cleveland had many tables occupied. We were pleased with our selections, particularly the Smokey Burger with its generous slice of bbq brisket that we requested 'on the side'. Brisket was tender & properly smoked & the lean burger meat was fresh not a frozen patty. Clyde's has a small & welcoming bar area facing the front dining room. They have several beers on tap & serve hard spirits as well. My friend, who ordered the fried chicken tenders enjoyed her meal. Clyde's is a cool old school building. The staff was great and so was the food. We were there at brunch. I got the chicken fried steak which is actually a big slab of brisket. It was awesome and enough that I had the rest for lunch the day after. Mother in law got the chicken and waffles and continued the next day (also at lunch) to talk about how good the chicken was. My wife was also pleased with her chicken biscuit and cheese grits. The grits were a little different for me, very creamy and a bit sweet, added some salt and butter and they were wonderful. Very good grits. Now to the highlight and I say it because my household keeps talking about it, the grits fritters were so very good. Everybody loved them and we debated on who got the remaining 2 because there were 3 of us and an order had 5. :) Can't wait to get back to this place to try some other options. read more

2nd visit! Everything was fabulous, again! Staff was alert, attentive, and knowledgeable. Restaurant is cute, like you are in an old saloon. Food is amazing!!! Probably the best sweet potato fries I've ever had! Hubby loves the regular fries also. Great seasoning!!!! Hubs got the brisket sandwich, no onions. I got the pork grilled cheese but with brisket instead of pork, of course!!! My sandwich, once I added the tasty bbq sauce, was perfection! I ate way more than I should have! Hubs thoroughly enjoyed his! Everything was hot and scrumptious. Even the sweet tea was on point! Only complaint, $17+ for a sandwich, no matter how good, is a bit much, especially when your burgers are $15. Just saying. Obviously, this complaint does not take away from my stars. read more

Food was amazing!! We were served quickly. The place was nice and clean. The service was excellent.

My friends and I enjoyed a morning hike and were looking for a good bbq spot, someone in my group had been here before and recommended the restaurant. We got seated after a 10 minute wait, every server, hostess, and kitchen worker greeted our group as we were sat. We ordered our food and about 10 more minutes later it was at our table. 3/4 of the tables food was delicious and perfect! My friend ordered a 16oz 35$ pork chop, medium rare with a side of fries and coleslaw, the pork chop was grey, no more than 12oz, and cooked more than well done. He took one bite of the pork chop and realized how tough and over cooked it was. He tried a bite of the cole slaw and didn't enjoy it much either, after a couple of fries he realized he couldn't eat the majority of his 35$ meal and decided he should ask for it to be sent back. After 15 minutes our server looped back to the table and brought over her manager, short woman with curly grey hair. The manger was visibly irritated to be conversing with us and spoke very short with us. My friend explained his concerns, she said "okay" and walked away. About 10 minutes later she retuned and asked what meal he wanted instead, he ordered a burger. 5 minutes later she returned and said that "it would be replaced for free." We were all confused by her phrasing and were waiting for the checks. When our server brought the bills to our table me friend looked to see that he was being charged for the 35$ meal that he physically was not able to eat and not charged for the 15$ burger that replaced the original meal. When our server returned we explained that we were confused to see he was being charged for the pork chop he didn't eat. I have worked at many restaurants and eaten at many more, I have NEVER seen a business charge a customer for a meal they did not or could not eat. Our server said she would inform the manger, about 5 minutes later the owner showed up to our table and asked what was going on with the pork shop. As my friend started to explain the issues the owner, a short old white man with a ball cap, interrupted before my friend could finish his sentence. He started talking loudly about the policy at his restaurant, explaining that once over half of the meal has been eaten there is nothing they can do. We tried explaining that he absolutely did NOT eat half of his meal, he could barely cut the pork chop. The owner raised his voiced again and then said that if any portion was taken from the meal they could not do anything. I explained I had never seen or heard of something like this and that I would just pay for my friends meal. When I said this the owner started cornering me, the only woman at the table, while I was still in my seat making it difficult for me to leave. At that point in time I was overwhelmed and could smell alcohol coming from the owners breath, I decided it was time for me to leave the restaurant as me and my other friend had already purchased our meals. Shortly after I walked out of the restaurant one of my friends walked out and then the other two, with the other two came the owner screaming we better not come back or ever try anything like this again, I repeated that I had never been treated like this or seen a policy like this at a restaurant. As my group of four started walking to our car the owner followed and started yelling that we had not paid for our meals. I said that the server took my multi hundred dollar smart phone across the restaurant to pay for my meal, I received a receipt and signed it after leaving a tip! I have never felt so unsafe and uncomfortable from a dining experience. Do not dine here unless you want to be served a rock hard pork chop and chased out of the restaurant by a drunk owner and sassy manager!! read more

Today was our daughters first birthday, and we made a 3-hour trip up to Cleveland to visit the Cabbage Patch General Hospital. We decided to eat somewhere local, and this place was highly recommended. To start, the service is beyond what we could have ever hoped. I wish we got gotten the hostess's name and our servers, but they were seriously some of the nicest people we have ever met. They made us feel so incredibly welcome and like we had known them our entire life. We ordered a chicken tender kids meal with macaroni and cheese, the southwestern egg-rolls, and an ice cream sundae! Food was incredible, and I highly recommend getting the egg-rolls with the jalapeno ranch. 10/10! So sad we don't live local to make this an every week visit, but we will 1000% be visiting again. The server may have forgotten our ticket. Everyone around us received food before us....no big deal. I asked after 40 minutes how much longer on our 2 person ticket. She said. Oh you haven't gotten your food again not a big deal. What is a big deal is the attitude of the sever who came from downstairs later to bring our two plates up and say to our server "found their food". She brought it over and I said, I'm glad you found it jokingly.'zero empathy from her zero apology... she proceeds to walk over to another sever at the bar and mock me. Awkward. Hey, maybe the food will be good as I've eaten here twice before and it was ok. The owner was nice before when we visited. So, we came back. Anyway, my burger was dry as if it had been under a heat lamp and the sweet potato fries were burned beyond edible. We were staying in Helen, and it was tough to get decent food. We drove 15 min to Cleveland and found Clydes. Had a fantastic meal, great service and chill overall vibe. The have a front room with a bar and some tables, a back room with more tables and upstairs a long bar with some high top tables. It was packed. Had the pimento cheese app, corn muffins with sweet butter, brunswick stew, pulled pork, brisket, blackened chicken over cobb salad. Everything we ate was absolutely delicious. Decent option in the middle of town. We came in on a rainy evening when the Christmas parade was happening right outside - so there was a 30 ish minute wait but we watched the parade while we waited. Started with some cornbread muffins - Nowhere near the best I've had, they were okay. The butter was unnecessarily sweet, and not needed in my opinion since the cornbread was moist enough on its own. I ordered a steak with a caesar salad & mac and cheese as the side and my husband ordered the Cubano. The salad was the best thing I ate! Cold, crisp, and with a lot of dressing. The steak was okay but really dry. My husband loved his sandwich but when we got back to our cabin he was immediately violently ill. So I'm not sure if something was undercooked or what happened but that was all he had eaten in many hours and he didn't develop a subsequent illness so it feels like it has to have been from something he ate here. Probably just a fluke and I don't think it necessarily indicates anything majorly bad about the restaurant but I can't rate it higher based on our experience. read more

We stopped at Clyde's on our drive from the Atlanta airport to Helen and it was a great find. I had the brisket sandwich with red onion and pickles on Texas toast, absolutely delicious. I drive past here all the time. I had heard it was good, but I do not eat in Cleveland often. This evening I stopped in with my wife and the in-laws. I was very impressed! Cleveland has needed a good restaurant like this! Great service and even better food! My wife got a half of a wedge salad. I got the meat sampler. What a deal! Brisket, pork, sausage, and wings. Along with some crackers, pimento cheese dip, and other stuff. Everything was really good. The mustard sauce was the star of the sauces. Great place on the square in Cleveland. What a great find. We came for lunch and we're seated on the back porch. Every table was full, we got the last one. It's obvious the locals eat here--a good sign. We started with the fried pickles that were cut length-wise. Next the jalapeño grits poppers were amazing. Just the right amount of heat, served with jalapeño ranch dip. Two of us got the1/2 Cobb salad with grilled chicken and Bleu cheese dressing, that was so chunky. Delicious. The other two got the chopped steak with mushroom gravy. It was more like a meatloaf and had different seasonings. It was good but the consensus is they prefer plain chopped steak. The Mac and cheese was great. read more

First night in Cleveland, GA having dinner as we move in. They are located on the town Square in a great location. Restaurant is about 5 years old but is a wonderful place to eat. Many people waiting to have dinner. Wife had the Brunswick stew and it was excellent with a little kick to it. Corn muffin was great also with a store made butter to go along with it. Had the Clyde's Burger that comes with pulled pork on it. Burger was a little over done and had sat in the back for awhile as it was dry in the middle not moist. Loved the sliced pickles on it better than the round jar pickles. Nice family atmosphere had a wonderful conversation with a father and daughter sitting next to us. Worth the stop that is for sure we will be back and try other offerings on the menu. read more

We got the bourbon peach barbecue pork rib tips with a side Caesar salad and a lazy magnolia southern pecan beer, and a side of corn bread with a peach cobbler desert. The pork rib tips were very flavorful but had more bone in them than I would like. The beer was good but lacked some flavor. The Cesar salad was basic but the other sides looked and smelled good. The corn muffins I was really expecting more and was underwhelmed. There wasn't enough salt, there wasn't corn chunks. It was big in size but lacked flavor. The bar upstairs is pretty big and sat our part of 9. The waitress was nice and the place was pretty clean. Our friends said their pork rib tips were pretty good, the peach sauce was very good, sweet and tangy. The tips had too much bone but they were cooked through well. The dessert was good and warm but lacked peaches- almostt to much breading BUT it was good so I can't complain, I would still get it again. read more

Atmosphere, very nice. Food and service? Now that's a different story. I'll start with the food. Nothing presented was remarkable. Mediocre at best. The corn muffins were good. The entries, specifically what I ordered, fried chicken. This consisted of three tenderloins, butterflied, breaded and fried. Two things. Overcooked and over salted. Plate presentation was great, looked good. However, butterflied tenderloins do not take long to cook, because you've thinned them out (to look big on your plate). They were like trying to chew on leather. Heavily salted leather. So much so, I could only eat one and a half. The side of collard greens were good. The side of sweet potato fries were like the chicken, over cook and sliced too thin. You could not tasted the sweetness of the sweet potato. Service provided, by Trudy, was good. She did a nice job. Very cordial and humorous. She appeared to have been there for some time. That being said: by design, gaining access to the restrooms is a challenge. Unless you're seated in the back room, you have to transverse down a narrow hallway, passing the kitchen window to get to the rear of the restaurant where the restrooms are located. The servers receive the food from this window. They stand there waiting, but do not want to move when you approach to pass. With limited space it is difficult to squeeze by. Trudy, who was standing there when we first arrived, didn't want to move when I wanted to pass. After several seconds I asked her if I could pass, that I didn't want to rub butts. Which she laughed and complied. That was the exception. When I was returning, the kitchen manager was there and didn't attempt to move when I squeezed by. I thought "no problem, I get it, poor design, you've got the work with what you've got ", I managed to squeeze by. Later in the meal, my mother in law, who has very limited mobility and walks with a walker, attempted to go to the restroom. She was being escorted by my wife. When she attempted to pass, the kitchen manager would not move. He looked at them and just stood there, not making any attempt to yield or let them squeeze by. He just looked away, ignoring their dilemma. My wife squeezed by and told her mom to attempt. She turned the walker sideways and tried to manage through. The wheel of her walker was touching his heel of his left foot and he wouldn't move. Just looking ahead. A younger female server joined the kitchen manager at the window and as well, stood there obstructing the pass. My wife asked both of them if they could move. No response. It was only after Trudy, our waitress came up and told them to move, that they complied. The younger server just rolled her eyes and turned sideways to let them pass. Huh? Really? This is your attitude and demeanor when your paying customers, who keep you in business, just want to pass by? In closing, mediocre food with good service, you may come back. Mediocre food with rude discourteous behavior from staff, you will not come back. We will never come back.. We visited this restaurant two years ago, and only returned because we enjoyed our experience. Something has happened. The food quality has diminished significantly and the staff, well that speaks for itself.. never will we return. read more

OMG! Talk about heaven in your mouth. This had to be the best Burger I had ever tasted!! We were looking for a place to eat and one of the kids found this place on Google Maps and said it had great reviews. We were like...ok...I'm hungry... let's eat....what about the best fried pickles I've ever tasted. Usually, we see them cut in circles but these were cut length-wise and had just the right amount of breading. Then, our burgers came out and boy were we surprised at how fresh juicy, and tasty they were. I had the Smokey Burger and the combination of beef, brisket, bacon, cheese, onion, lettuce, bbq sauce almost seemed overwhelming but it was so good that I couldn't believe that I ate the whole Burger which I typically don't do but I did! The service was great here and the vibe of the place was very welcoming. The place is well-kept and clean. The food was delicious and served hot. Our server took our order and served us our drinks. She came to our table once and asked how everything was. She and 2 others were working behind the bar. A manager asked how our food was as he walked by our table, never stopping to get an answer. One of the bartenders (I think), rushed by our table, as well, and asked how everything was. She later brought our check and commented that she appeared to be "rushing", I replied that we had noticed and asked "why", she said "we were told we had to", then rushed on her way.
