The owners took a chance that Brevard was ready for an authentic mexican restaurant and they nailed it. You wont find all of the deep fried drowned in sauce tex mex food here. These are slow cooked, family recipes and they are awesome. My favorite is the TAMARINDERA. Chicken in a sweet tamarind sauce with bacon and rice. Fantastic. Chunky guacamole is also a must while you wait. So good. Soups are amazing. You can really tell these are family recipes passed down through generations. read more

Just don't!!! As great as some of the pics look and some of the reviews go, you can't eat here!! I had high hopes for this place since it is advertised as fine dining. The staff were super nice and friendly and the drinks were fantastic. It all went downhill after that. The salsa was pretty good, but the chips were definitely store bought rounds. The entrees were a little to be desired with no seasoning. They were just bland. My husband got steak tacos and they came out with steak in a tortilla. That's it nothing else. Granted he asked for no onion, but no cheese, no salsa, no cilantro. I got the salmon and it was just under seasoned and over cooked. The rice was just ok. I have had better cheaper Mexican elsewhere. The beans were not appetizing looking at all. I cannot have beans right now and no one else in the family eats beans so I cannot comment on taste. Oh my goodness!! This place is so good! I am a lover of Mexican restaurants but this one is by far the best. They love what they do and the taste proves it! Super authentic and great service. My new #1 ! We ordered the appetizer sampler! Definitely recommend! We had the Pollo con Manzana y Nuez, which was to die for! It was so full of flavor. This is not your classic Mexican restaurant. It's way better because the food is freshly made! Our first dining experience here was very impressive. The restaurant decor/atmosphere is somewhat classy, but still casual. The service was prompt. It appears to be a family-owned place where all the family works. Very nice people. The menu is a good size, but not too huge like most Mexican places. The food is absolutely delicious. It tastes different than typical Mexican food we've had... Because it's fresh!! We started with the guacamole appetizer; it was hands-down the best guacamole ever. We actually had to wait a lil bit for it because they made it fresh. And no extra preservatives or flavor enhancers... Just plain delicious. Our dinners were awesome too. And the drinks are huge! Tasty sangria. We also tried the flan & were pleased. We ordered take out. Once we got back home, we realized the extra tortillas we ordered must have meant no tortillas at all with fajitas. When we called the restaurant, the staff indicated that if we didn't say what kind of tortillas we wanted (flour or corn) they assumed it meant none...even though we ordered extra. Your average mexican restaurant should make their own chips. They claim to be "fine mexican cuisine" and buy their chips from the grocery store. On top of that, you had to pay for them. Baja fish tacos consisted of a decent tortilla, fried fish and large chunks of onion, and that's it. Waiter was eating at the bar while we were waiting on the check. Awesome place for lunch, I had the Camerones a la naranja. Food was very fresh and the portion sizes were perfect. We tried the soup of the day the cream of carrot and it was so delicious. My husband and I absolutely loved this food! I had chicken quesadillas with vegetables added. The flour tortilla was not greasy, and the overall feel of the dish was as healthy as you can get with Mexican food. My husband had a shrimp dish flavored with tamarind and chipotle. Delicious and not too spicy. They will cook to your desired level of heat. This is not your average Tex-Mex type of food. You will not find a taco, enchilada, queso puff type combination plate here. But what you will find is great quality food that is absolutely worth a try! We just ate here again last night with a party of eight. Still delicious, still consistent service. We went to lunch here and the food was very good! I had been burritos, a good squash side dish and rice. My wife had chicken fajitas that were delicious. The iced tea was different and very good too. Victor has an awesome place. The margarita was incredible. It was homemade and very tasty ! We had the cheese fundido as an appetizer. It was cheese and chorizo baked togethet untill brown, it made all other queso dips taste like nasty greasey flavorless and just not good. The queso fundido is a must try ! We've eaten here many, many times. (Now at the new location.) In the past I would have given this 5 stars but no longer. Daughter loved the bean and cheese burritos. Previously they were filled with delicious beans and cheese. No longer. Last two times, they had a little cheese in them and they had, literally, about a half a TEASPOON of beans each. I know because I opened one up...and....nothing. Nada. Seriously. Where have the nice plump burritos gone? Now they are just flat with nothing in them! Service is also hit-or-miss. If you are unfortunate enough to get the tall, fair-haired skinny kid...don't plan on having your drinks refilled. You're pretty much on your own with your flat burritos. If I could give this place more than five stars, I would! My boyfriend and I went to Quixote for lunch today and I couldn't have been more impressed. Service was fast and friendly. Our waiter had excellent recommendations, and the owner himself brought out a sample of their lentil soup (AMAzing) while we waited for our meal. We ordered the chicken molé and the day's special...Hawaiian Tacos. The tacos were delicious--the perfect mix of sweet and salty--but the molé was incredible. I was born and raised in New Mexico, still live there for a good part of the year, and never in my life have I tasted a molé so delicious. Unforgettable with the perfect level of sweetness and spice, as well as a subtle char. Perfect. At the end of our meal, we enjoyed a brief conversation with the owner (he also came to check on us a few times as we ate), who is originally from Guadalajara. These guys are wonderful in terms of both accommodating service and food tasting quality. The first time we went it was just the three of us and the owners and the family of owners could not have been nicer. I got the chicken mole (chocolate) which was phenomenal, my wife who usually doesn't like Mexican food was equally impressed with her molcajete. We also got the appetizer sampler which was delicious. The next time we showed up at 1230 pm with eleven people and after warning us that it might take a while for the kitchen to catch up they figured out a way to seat all of us together. Even with this large number the food arrived without delay and it was once again outstanding to the last person. The carnitas and the tacos and the Chile nogada equaled the mole that I had once again. A nice touch was how rapidly the children were served including drinks with tops for the inevitable knocked over cup. The staff and owners really won our appreciation and I praise for their food and its quality and taste. read more

My husband and I just had lunch at Quixote's in Brevard and we enjoyed it so much. The food was delicious, not the ordinary Mexican fare but much better! The tables are spread with beautiful colorful tablecloths and the plates are lovely, like pottery from a charming Mexican village. The waitress was very sweet and kind and attentive . We enjoyed ourselves exceedingly. This is my third time at this restaurant and each time has been a delightful experience. After a full day of hiking, you'd think four hungry people would not be that hard to please. We arrived at 5pm as they opened for dinner, first they provided us with stale chips that they charged us for, Then the waiter talked my vegetarian wife out of the meal she had intended to get. She ate 2 bites of the meal she ended up with, the worst huevos rancheros I've ever seen. And ii'm not that picky. Over cooked eggs on fried tortillas drowned in bland canned enchilada sauce. My fish tacos consisted of chunks of bland over cooked deep-fried fish with a couple slivers of onion on a soft corn tortilla. Also the worst I've ever had. Which is a shame because fish tacos is one of my favorite meals, The other 2 meals were as bad. Somehow this place was busy but Im going to assume everyone eating there has never eaten before Bc the food was the worst food I have ever been served at a restaurant in my life. The chips were from a bag and not even a good bag of chips! They were probably Tostitos and this place charged $4 for them on top of It all. Shouldn't they be free at a Mexican spot? My boyfriend ordered a burger that was some kind of meatloaf served with rock hard bacon that almost broke his front tooth. Instead of fries they dumped some soggy pre frozen ore idas on the side. The server put his finger in his ketchup as he served It. I ordered salmon that I wouldn't even feed my dog. They left off half the sides but did serve it with undercooked peppers. When they did bring my sides It was rice pilaf and mashed potatoes from a box. We paid $50 for a meal I could have purchased from boxes at Costco for $8 and the service was the worst I have ever seen. I feel bad for the people saying they like this place. I can't understand how a restaurant like this even exists serving such low quality food from boxes. Disgusting. read more

My husband, sister and friends came to El Quixote to celebrate a birthday. We were totally blown away by the service, atmosphere and, happily, one of the best Mexican food restaurants we have ever gone to! The server/owner was professional, personable and very attentive. He shared that they have been at this location for two years and, typically, the first of the year is more slow than the summer. (I noticed outdoor seating in a very cozy patio as we entered.) We ate lunch at Quixote while visiting Brevard recently. We enjoyed our meals and, as others have indicated, appreciated finding authentic regional Mexican food, as opposed to the usual Tex-Mex cheese heavy, combination plate places that are in every small town in the country. Teh place was relatively dead at lunch - unsure on why as this is the height of tourist season in the NC mountains - but that was fine as we were very hungry. I had the Burrito calabacitas - zucchini, corn and beans - with a wonderful light sauce on them. Two of these were served in white corn tortillas with a side of cooked pinto beans (not strictly 'refried'), and light delicious yellow rice. My wife enjoyed vegetarian quesadillas with a similar filling, wlthough hers also had la crema on top (not too heavy). We started with their guacamole which was chunky and as good as I have had in any restaurant, anywhere. Yes, like the kind you can -make at home when you actually use one entire avocado, tomato, lime, and plenty of fresh cilantro and mash it with a fork - unlike many places that cut corners and food process the guacamole into a thin gruel. Our server indicated they were moving into a larger space in downtown Brevard within a couple of weeks. read more
