Love Mary's!!! We bought a house near here and decided to check it out the day we closed and we are SO HAPPY we did!! Food is amazing and the team running it is wonderful. I especially enjoy the Carne Asada and Mary's Sampler dishes. They have a salsa bar with great options, and on certain days, they'll make you a fresh Michelada that my husband is obsessed with. I don't know if this place is actually a hidden gem but it sure does feel like it. My friend that brought me is a regular and when we stopped in just after the lunch rush on a cold, rainy, Saturday, you could tell he wasn't the only one. There's a decent size patio for when the weather's nice, not much to look at but spacious and has a little bit of flair going on. When you walk inside, you';; order at the counter. You can watch them prepare some of your food or sit down and they'll deliver it. We each got a beer. Being tired from the night before we didn't realize we got the extra large. Good thing the portions are also huge we each had plenty of leftovers. My friend suggest the "supreme platter" which has a few different things... knowing I wanted leftovers for later I was all about a big delicious plate of all the things. Don't miss the sauce bar. Whatever you do, make sure you try a few of them out. My personal favorite was the chipolte. It wasn't very spicy but the flavor was great and they have plenty of other hotter flavors. The chips are crunchy and have just enough salt. Housemade or not, we left no evidence. They give you a cup of refried beans and I don't normally get mess with those but these... they were worth it. The enchiladas had red and green sauces which were fresh- tasting. And nacho cheese sauce got ladled here and drizzled there in abundance, which was great - I think that in general, the world needs more nacho cheese. This is my favorite build your own burrito in town but they have sooo much more to offer as well. Their papusas, tamales, and plantains are sooo delicious and they have a sampler plate where you can get it all in one meal. There's also a salsa bar for your dipping needs. Come for the food, tolerate the experience. Okay, so this was one of the more awkward/confusing dining experiences I've ever had. The process of ordering, sitting, getting a drink was super weird. There's a huge bar. So I skipped ordering and thought I'd sit at the bar and get a beer while I figure out the food. However, there's no bartender. After 5 min or so another customer told me I have to go order my food in order to get a beer? Ok. So I went and ordered from the one adult working (who was super nice and patient but with very broken English). I then ordered my beer and paid for everything from a small child who handed me a basket of chips and bean dip along with a "go away now" expression. So I went to the salsa bar, grabbed some rather bland salsas, the adult brought me my beer at the salsa bar, I found a table, and 5 minutes later the child brought me my food. That's where any negatives stop. Aside from the bland salsas, the food was EXCELLENT. I had a steak chimichanga with rice and beans, and all of the ingredients were fresh, flavorful and very well prepared. Didn't even miss the salsa because the rest was that good. All in all, great food (except the salsa) weird system for getting said food, very sweet (I assume family) people that run it, and great prices. More food than I could finish and a Negro Modelo on draft for $14. This TX boy will be back. read more

We have mixed feeling on this place bc it varies-- the service sometimes is ok other times they seem stand offish/rude/broken English... It seems like a family business-but last time I was there I had my hands full with my Togo order and my toddler in my other arm and I struggled with getting out of there opening the door etc there was an older women just standing by the door smiling,oddly,watching me not asking if I needed help or offering to get help I just had to laugh bc it was awkward - she knew the ppl working and was talking to them in Spanish or some other dialect(I think they're from El Salvador )- based on the pupusas-which are GOOD! However,it was just rude,I felt,that no one offered any assistance at all . They weren't busy at that time either... I've had their burritos, nachos, and salads...all of which were fantastic. Don't forget to visit the salsa bar, it can be easy to miss if you're not looking for it. This particular Mary's has a considerable amount of seating so that shouldn't be an issue. read more

It was horrible. I had heard such great things about this place but I went to the buffet and tried to eat the tacos that were there actually try to eat the meat, but it was just bad. The beef was tough like leather and the pork was not spicy nor any good. This place is amazing! The food is delicious and the price is unbeatable. My BF and I both got burritos, chips and queso, and drinks for less than $20. These weren't skimpy burritos either. The girl actually had a hard time wrapping mine up and getting it to fold over. I love that there's a salsa bar there too for you to add extra sauces to your meal or to have with your chips. This style of food is their strong point in my opinion and I certainly look forward to these corn indulgences again. They have a great salsa selection which is fun to try. I had come originally for a burrito craving, tried the chicken and beef burritos ( no, I didn't eat them both, I shared w/my husband) and they were good but not fabulous. They are massive and weigh about as much as my chihuahua so you will be filled up by one. But coming from SoCal, being raised near the Mexico boarder and eating major authentic burritos most of my life Mary's didn't hit that mark for me. We frequent this location and have always had great experiences here with both the food and staff. They dont try to put any "Asheville" in the menu and i am thankful. I love our local and unqiue variations that the guys around come up with, dont get me wrong, but sometimes its not needed. And here it is not. Tacos, burritos and the like but done very well. The ordering technique here is very odd. It's really confusing. The staff doesn't speak clear English (which is expected because it's a Mexican place) but it makes it difficult to order.
