Great Mexican place with lots of options for vegetarians. Their portion sizes are so big that I bet you can't finish off in a meal. Ordered Tacos and veg burritos that came with rice beans as an entree. It was so filling and even came for my next meal. The service was prompt and they even offered samples of the drinks that I was wanting to try. Horchata was yum and it came in a big jar that was too much for the price we pay for. Decent little stop in downtown. Went here on a Thursday night and it was fairly busy. The salsa they serve with the chips just tasted like tomato sauce. I also got the "spicy" salsa, which was a verde, and it didn't have a lot of flavor either. Fish tacos were tasty. Chimichangas we're not crispy but had good flavor with the guacamole salad. Beans and rice had zero flavor. Kind of mixed review, probably wouldn't go back. read more

One of the most disappointing experiences I have had in Brevard. Friend tells me it is newly renovated, so we decided to give it a try at lunch. Over priced tacos - little flavor. I used to work in Mexico, so I know what pastor is supposed to be - not even close. My buddie had the chicken soup, which was actually pretty good, expect they served it with a whole chicken thigh, bones and all, in the bowl. Fairly generic Mexican food at predictably low prices. They bring chips and bean dip (not salsa) to your table and that was unique to me and a first for my visits to Mexican restaurants. They do have a salsa bar which costs nothing extra to visit. An arrangement of salsas from mild to hot but the plastic cups are small and this is a bit wasteful in my opinion. The waitstaff did not offer me one of the washable kitchen bowls when I asked for something bigger. I got a dish with the usual - enchilada or a taco, rice, beans, veggies. Can't complain about the quality at all and it worked great for a post-hike meal. I always go for Mexican or something equally comforting after a day in the woods. They were a bit crowded and frantic when I visited, probably due to the festival going on outside. It wasn't very clean as a result. Not staffed heavily enough or they're just not attentive enough to cleanliness. Not a bad spot, but nothing special either. Would try a different restaurant next time I find myself in Brevard. read more

Generic Mexican food at an affordable price point on the main drag in Brevard. The complimentary chips at the start of our meal was a nice touch. We ordered cheese dip to go with the chips. For entrees, we had steak tacos and pollo tacos, and vegetable enchiladas. They forgot the toppings for the tacos, however, perhaps because it was a busy Sunday night when most other restaurants in town were closed. The food was serviceable, a little bland. Being this is winter in Brevard, NC, it was not very busy which is normal this time of year. It was very clean, and the service was fast I was hungry for shrimp tacos which I love and being Tuesday they had a special on them. I will have to say that I was dissapointed. The plus side is that the tacos were hot with a good amount of fillings that made for good size tacos with sauce on the side. The downside was that they were bland. The sauce had no real taste, and to be honest neither did the shrimp inside. Maybe because they were breaded and fried and maybe the grilled shrimp would be much better. I think: The change in menu & prices will slowly kill the grill. I have eaten at the grill many times, but I'm afraid to say the new menu isn't going to work for me anymore. Sub par Tex Mex. I'm sorry but I can make better more flavorful Mexican food at home. Yes I'm spoiled by authentic Mexican food full of homemade sauces and fresh made salsas! The "enchilada" ha! Okay. Where should I start? The service was slow, the cerviche was too spicy to eat. The salsa was so hot that one bite will be seared in my memory for months. The Texas Fajita Burrito was not seasoned in any way before it was cooked and the Onions and peppers were not caramelized at all, in fact they were barely cooked. My wife ordered a steak quesadilla and was served chicken. My refried beans were runny and we had to ask for silverware. When I have to say that the high-lite of my meal was the draft Modelo Especial then that should tell you all you need to know. $50 plus for less than mediocre food is unacceptable. Barely edible. I'm going out on a limb here and going to say that any food that makes it to your table in less than 5 minutes after you order, is not going to be good. I left shortly after taking a bite of my food and walked down the street to order a pizza. There are soup kitchens that serve better food than this. Good Gringo Mexican food. I had the combo platter- taco, beef burrito, cheese enchilada and chicken tamale. The portion size was so large, I could not get to the tamale. The chicken was dry any way. Ended a long day of hiking at Maya's Grill. The food (and beer) was exactly what we wanted. We ordered the biggest modelo especial beers (34oz!!) with lots of lime. The chips were warm and were refilled. The salsa bar had a variety of salsas to try. All delicious. I had the fajitas quesadillas and hubs had burrito Texano. Both were huge portions and yummy. The service was awesome. We never had to ask for anything. The waiter was pleasant and even joked around with us. When we checked out and told the cashier about the great service, the cashier laughed and said that our waiter was actually the owner! He much preferred being on the floor then running the register. Excellent staff. Very friendly. You have to pay at the counter. Free chips and salsa bar, but... chip salsa tastes like it came out of a can of crushed tomatoes. The pico de Gallo was bland and tasteless. The chips were warm and crispy. The bean dip served with the chips was ok, a bit watery and bland, but ok. We got the pollo loco and the pollo adobe. They both had flat boneless chicken that was well seasoned and cooked just right. The Mexican rice was tasteless and the refried beans were not much better. Overall it got the extra star for such nice staff. Food was filling, and with more attention to flavor this would be a good place to try. read more

Wow, this place is filthy. I was surprised how many people were eating here. The floors were littered with garbage and food bits. The salsa bar was sloppy and wasn't wiped down or refilled. The restrooms and adjacent hallway were covered in mold. When I walked past the kitchen, it looked filthy as well. Okay, this place is great. I wandered in here in hangry desperation after first trying to eat at two other recommended places (no to the crowded bar at Square Root, and double no to the live music at Phoenix). The cavernous orangey-yellow space filled with families and a couple of screaming children wasn't super appealing, but I wasn't in a position to be fussy. I ordered the chipotle pollo salad (without crema or guac) and readied myself for mediocrity. My bad. The salad arrived in less than 10 minutes, several large, flat pieces of tender chicken breast the size of my hand, blanketed in a surprisingly complex adobo sauce and hiding a good-sized mound of fresh salad greens, tomatoes, and peppers. Turns out the crema that accompanies the salad is necessary, as the sauce is relatively spicy. Plus, you'll want to add a variety of fresh salsas (and excellent pickled nopales salad, and maybe some guac, which I didn't sample) from the amazing salsa bar in the middle of the room. I turned away the hot corn chips that came before the meal, but not the creamy refried beans that came with them. You should eat the chips. Service is smiling and quick, the booths are roomy, and the price? Seven bucks. Keep doing what you're doing, Maya's! read more

I'd really like the laid-back atmosphere here. When we were seated, we were given chips and bean dip. The bean dip wasn't really our thing, but there is a complete salsa bar with all kinds of dips, including guacamole, which was great! I got the El Acapulco, which was a combination of steak, chicken, and black beans wrapped in a flour tortilla and covered in cheese sauce. I asked that it be spiced up a lot, which the kitchen did a respectable job (although it is almost never as spicy as I want!). My wife got the steak and shrimp fajitas. We've had fajitas that were swimming in grease, these were not. Everything was well seasoned and the fajitas for one could easily serve two. Great job on both dishes. I ate here for the first time yesterday and enjoyed every part of it. It was bright and spacious and the service was prompt and friendly. They served bean dip with the chips they brought while we were looking at the menu which was a nice change, but there was also salsa available from a salsa bar that had a wide variety of types and spiciness levels. I got a veggie burrito. It had a bunch of different vegetables within it that gave it a nice variation in texture in each bite, and they were all equally properly done, no mix of over cooked and under cooked. The sauce over it was delicious. I came in very hungry, and the portion was more than adequate. I left happy and I'll be coming back. read more
