I really wanted to like it. I usually give small mom and pop cafes a chance because they're usually good! But R&K cafe didn't live up to it. Me and my family came for lunch. I order the R&K burger with french fries. The fries tasted like they were frozen and heated up. My burger was burnt and just less than average. My mom got the grilled chicken with mashed potatoes. She couldn't finish it because it tasted like instant mashed potatoes. Although the food was less than average the service was good, and the atmosphere lived up to the Mom and Pop cafe standard. read more

R&K Cafe II was a fantastic experience for breakfast. I had the 2 pork chop - egg - biscuit and gravy - hash brown experience. My friend had an ultimate omelette. After one visit we consider ourselves regulars now. Our waitress was Chelsea and she was very attentive to making sure all our needs were met. Our next visit will be on a Friday for the all you can eat catfish. The atmosphere is conservative Americana that is very comfortable and relaxing. My recommendation is that you try it for breakfast, lunch, or dinner! You won't be disappointed. read more

Came on recommendation from people that we just the weekend before. Wow! They were right! This is a great place for any meal, at anytime from 6AM to 8PM. We came on a Wednesday at 12 noon because the lady who answered the phone said that they serve breakfast anytime. We ordered breakfast: The Ultimate Omelet (loaded with bacon, ham, sausage and lots of grilled vegetables + I ordered jalapeños to be added). It comes toast or biscuits and gravy and hash browns(which I ordered to be crispy browned. Wife ordered the Two Eggs Plate with bacon and sausage and two fluffy pancakes with honey. I don't how they do it but the coffee cups never ran dry in the 45 minutes we were there. Food was excellent as well as the service! I have never seen a wait staff move so fast! The place was packed and parking is limited. We parked 1/3 block behind on a side street. read more

This place is ok if your over 60 as that's the age group that goes here . Don't get me wrong I'm pretty dang close to that age but still when I go there I feel like the young one lol The food is nothing to write home about and well the service at times is horrible. I went yesterday with a neighbor and ordered the beer battered fish and he the chicken strips , well we waited and waited and waited no food . The table behind us hadn't set there more that 10 mins and got their food , so the waitress went to check and finally after 10 mins came back with food . She told us that the chicken strips took longer REALLY?? Because they were barely warm and my fish was not done resulting in me getting food poisoning yep you got it food poisoning. This place needs to Step up their game and either get new management or whip some sense in the current ones . I'm done with this place for a long time .. read more

We stopped in just driving through area. Was Friday night, catfish night. Service was great. Atmosphere was refreshing. Good small town feel with great service, great food, and great price. I had a catfish Po Boy wth fries. The sandwich was excellent and the fries were perfectly crunchy, crispy, just the way I love them. My wife had chicken fried steak, mashed potatoes, corn and green beans. also very , very good. the cornbread was excellent. Lindsay was our server and she was the best I have had in a long time. Went in for dinner with my 5 year old daughter. We were greeted by the server, or should I say, I was greeted by the server. She brought one menu and one set of silverware. My daughter asked her if they had a kids menu, the waitress said no. We ordered and ate our meal with one set of silverware and one napkin...because apparently my daughter wasn't considered a person because she's small. Towards the end of our meal, the lady at the register brought my daughter a kids menu with crayons. But according to the server. they didn't have them...and according to the server, my daughter wasn't worthy of silverware or a napkin. Ignoring a child is the worst thing you can do as a server! This turned me off to visiting again. Food was meh...but I was set off from the minute we walked in. Was better service before the remodel. read more

The food was delicious as always but our waitress was a DIFFERENT story!! Little Red headed girl was very unattentive, our waters stayed empty the whole time. Messed up our order (I'm not too mad about that, stuff happens. Had the most terrible attitude when taking our order and to top it all off she called my husband babe and when I asked her to please not do that she giggled and did it a second time minutes later! Not a funny situation. I was fed up and asked for her manager to be told there wasn't one present....? So i decided to write the review even though I am not keen on doing things this drastic it needed to be said, what a terrible atmosphere that waitress has made one of my family's favorite dinner stops. I would hope to see a better staff the next time I come in if I do decide to try one more time. I do NOT see how any respectable business can have someone that disrespectful and snooty on their team. I just finished lunch with 3 others of my adult family and the food was great and everything we order from the Chalk Board Menu was only $10.99 plus tax. The wait staff were efficient and while we had a small wait for a table (5 Minutes) we were quickly seated, placed our order which came with 3 sides (salad bar equals 2 sides), bread, tea, and cookie. Best deal in Cleburne/Johnson County. If you use your credit card, you will be charged for the cost of the card fee. They take cash! read more

We drive thru Cleburne often and have seen R & K Cafe each time with the parking lot full. This trip we were hungry so we stopped. We were delighted with the great food, friendly wait staff and Southwest atmosphere. We both tried the homemade meatloaf, salad bar and vegetables. All were delicious! We visited R&K Cafe in Cleburne on a evening when it was just too hot to cook at home. Food and service were outstanding! We really like R&K It's Diner food, but it's really good diner food. Burgers are huge and have a hint of mesquite. The fries are soft Center with crispy outside. Husband usually has onion rings and is crazy about them (sort of a crispy batter type- really yummy!) The evil teen spawn loves their grilled shrimp and mashed potatoes (I've had the shrimp too, and they are delicious!) I like the burgers and shrimp, but have to give them kudos for the chicken fried steak. It's just darn good! The place really packs up for their catfish on Fridays, and I intend to try it as soon as I get tired of the chicken fried steak. They have pie, and I've tasted it, but we never have room. Portions are substantial and if you walk away hungry, it's your own fault. Will absolutely recommend and plan to be back probably this week. read more

Coffee was just ok here but the portions were huge! I had the fried port chops with eggs over easy. Fried pork chops were seasoned and cooked perfectly! The eggs were also cooked perfectly. The sausage gravy was very bland the biscuits were cooked good but I found very average. I wouldn't come here for just biscuits and gravy. I would come back here for the fried pork chops!!!! New to the Cleburne area, thought I'd try some local dining. Well this place seems to be very popular with the locals what it lacks in flavor it makes up for entertainment with the staff. My waitress was very friendly amongst all the chaos with the remainder of the staff. It was very on organized and the wait for food for quite some time. Trying to be humble and give it a chance I didn't even question the factThat they double charged me for an omelette a very dry omelette thank goodness for gravy. I would recommend this place purely for the expensive food however I may not be back for a very long time because of being double charged even asking if that was correct $18 for an omelette and a coffee. Saturday about mid day my group arrived and it was busy but we did get seated right away. This is where the locals go no doubt. A good selection on the menu and I selected the as its stated famous chicken steak. It arrived 3 minutes before my guest received theirs. I asked the waitress will the butter knife with the table silverware cut the steak or will I need a steak knife she said the knife will in deed cut the steak its that tender. WRONG, you shouldn't hang your reputation on this dish. It is maybe average. The other guest dishes was satisfying. read more

Came to the Cleburne area for Antique Alley. Stopped in here on Thursday at 1:40 for lunch-the day before Antique Alley officially started. It was packed and the waitresses were hustling. I used to love these little hole in the wall type places but had sort of quit going to any because the food in so many had gotten bad. This is NOT one of those places. It was sooo good. (and I'm from the big city so I consider this small town, non-chain, mom & pop type place a hole in the wall. lol) First, there's the ridiculous price. Ridiculously good price! The lunch special was a measly $8.49. My husband and I split a chicken fried steak. We ordered 2 sides and was then told it came with 3. I ordered tea and he got water. Tried to pay for the tea but was told it was included in the $8.49. The chicken fried steak was good. Cooked just right, not greasy or burned. Our sides were the baked potato, green beans and I think grilled squash-yellow and zucchini. Potato only came with butter but was was still good. Green beans seasoned well and I was very surprised at how good the squash was-thinly sliced and seasoned and in a little liquid. Overall, it was a really good meal for under $9.00 before tax. We were both very satisfied and it was nice to be able to hit the local antique stores and vendors who were open without feeling too stuffed. Yes, it is basic comfort food, but done a lot better than a lot of places I've been to. read more

Came in after remodel, so I was expecting better. I ordered the rosemary chicken with beans and baked squash, both were very dry. My chicken was almost over cooked as well. The lady at the register yelled at employees numerous times across the room about things they were doing wrong with tickets and so forth. Employees kept dropping glasses that would bounce over and over again sending a echo across the room! I think it was a very umprofessinal if this was the owner. The food was no good I would not recommend it to anyone we asked for chips and salsa and the chips were over microwaved or overheated they had a very funny taste some the food had a funny taste like if the grill needed to be cleaned it didn't take one minute for our order to come out it came out really quick so I'm guessing it was sitting there for a while would not recommend it to anyone I will go a little further next time to find something to eat.
