I've been wanting to try R&R Taqueria ever since I saw them featured on the Food Network (Diners, Drive-Ins and Dives), and their Baltimore location completely hit it out of the park! When a place gets that kind of national TV hype, you always wonder if it's going to live up to it. Trust me, it does. We started with some of the exact Food Network recommended dishes mentioned on the show--specifically the Tacos al Pastor and the R&R Tacos Enchilados (pulled lamb meat dipped in a rich pasilla sauce). The depth of flavor in that lamb is insane, and the pastor has the perfect balance of sweet pineapple and savory marinated pork. You can tell they don't cut corners on traditional techniques. But the absolute sleeper hit for me was their breakfast menu. I ordered the chorizo, eggs, and cheese breakfast tacos, and they were incredible. The chorizo has just the right amount of spicy kick and grease, blending perfectly with fluffy eggs and melted cheese on fresh tortillas. It's the ultimate hangover cure or weekend morning fuel. The staff was fast and friendly, and the energy in the place is great. Whether you're coming for the famous Triple-D lunch spots or hitting them up early for breakfast tacos, this place is an absolute must-visit in Baltimore. We had reservations for two during happy hour. Service was a little slow. But they were apologetic. I think they were a kettle under staffed. There was no dedicated bartender, but the woman that made our margaritas was heavy handed and we lived it. Food was delicious. I was a little sad they didn't have the supplies for an espresso martini, but the patron to make up for it, was spot on after a long day. And the price. Everything was so affordable. Our food order was incorrect but between placing the food on the table and providing the check, we never saw any weight staff. One wrong order. Another order that was incomplete. No water. No silver. No napkins. No wait staff in sight. At one point, a couple who were seated for over 15 minutes just got up and left because no one ever came to take their order. When someone finally did come to give us the check, we were told somewhat indifferently, "yeah, we only have 2 wait staff tonight." The food here is terrific and it had gluten-free options which were greatly appreciated. however, the service was practically non-existent for two visits in a row now. Tables are piled with trash and dirty plates, the table we were seated in was filthy and we had to chase down someone to give it a wipe down before we felt comfortable enough to sit there. For our second visit in a row, a server did not come by for over 15 minutes. For our second time in a row, waters and silver service were another 10 minutes. We were about to throw a few dollars on the table and walk out of the restaurant at our 37 minute mark when our food finally arrived. It was delicious. But that didn't make up for the service we lacked (empty glasses...walking past not making eye contact, etc.) or the part of our order they forgot to bring -- despite being reminded twice. Gave this place a try after seeing it was a Triple D recommended spot in Baltimore. I'm from SoCal so it's tough to find really good Mexican food on the East Coast. I ordered the carne asada plate. It was served with a few tortillas, rice and beans. The carne asada was well seasoned but a little overcooked. It was rough going trying to slice with a butter knife. The rice was hard but the ranchero style beans were okay. My husband ordered the chicken flautas which was our favorite item. It was flavorful and had a nice crunch. He also ordered the carne asada quesadilla which he said was okay. The house margarita was tasty as was my hubby's horchata. For East Coast standards, it was pretty good. For SoCal standards, it was average. If I were to go back, I'd definitely get the chicken flautas again. The setting is super casual, it has a bar and a walk up order counter. There is table service. Had lunch here today and it was delicious! I give it 10/10. We ordered chips and salsa and fried plantains as app and I ordered the shrimp tacos and my husband ordered carne asada. I had the house margarita on the rocks. The service was great, we had no wait and immediately seated on a Saturday late afternoon (winter). Atmosphere was lovely. Overall not impressive but definitely not bad, either, as it has solid food that wasn't out of this world, and some was better than others. I would say R&R is a classic Mexican food spot that one would go to for some easy walk-in food. The pozole was pretty good, and the meat was very tender so that made up for the fact that the soup itself was fairly average (well-seasoned but didn't taste any better than other pozole). The nachos were freshly made which I could tell based on the traces of frying still there after placing all the ingredients on top of the nachos. There was a fair amount of meat which was a good thing, and within one bite, one had to work hard to ensure everything was on the nachos, which was why extra nacho chips were nice because one could scoop from the top if they felt like they didn't get enough of the cheese or the sour cream if they already got a lot of meat from beneath everything else. As much as there was a lot of meat, the steak was pretty hard, so I am hoping they didn't use a thicker cut like an eye round. My lengua tacos came with rice, refried beans, and both red and green sauces. The rice and beans both tasted pretty solid, like classic Mexican food. The lengua was overcooked and became harder and drier than usual, so I had to use some lime juice and sauces to compensate for the dryness. The sauces were not super spicy, which could be good or bad depending on who is tasting it. The lengua flavor wasn't really there because it wasn't juicy enough, so if it wasn't for the texture, then I would think I was just having carne asada tacos, which would clearly be a downgrade. In terms of drinks, I had the piña colada and it didn't taste bad. I could taste the coconut rum but the pineapple juice flavor was pretty difficult to identify, although I finally did it. There wasn't enough condensed milk as I couldn't taste any of it. Overall not a bad drink, so I would call it average. Service was excellent! Our server checked on us a few times and as I was waiting for my friend, ensured that I wanted to wait for her instead of ordering first. He always showed up at the right time, too. read more

This R&R Taqueria location is downtown, only a 15 minute walk from Camden Yards. We decided to eat here before the game and park the car on the street. This is a trendy looking location, with a bar and seating on the second floor. The menu is not exactly the same as at the Perry Hall location, but it was good enough. I orders the steak and added the shrimp and it came with 3 tortillas, bean, rice and pico de gallo. It was tasty and filling, it got me through the whole 3 hours at the game. There was absolutely no ham this time, and the mozzarella had been replaced with another cheese. It wasn't as thick, but still wasn't creamy, and I ended up having to cut it with a knife in order to eat it. The included tortillas were simultaneously very oily & wet from the steam, so they ended up being fairly brittle. What really killed it this time was that both sauces were rancid. Sadly, I'd already poured the green sauce all over my meal before I realized it. The red was even worse. I tried to eat around the green sauce, but I really couldn't keep going & ended up tossing the whole thing in the trash. Never again R&R.
