What a disappointment. We drove a considerable distance to try Don Tigre Mexican Cantina after seeing all the hype on social media, and it ended up being a complete waste of time and money. The drinks came out quickly, but the food took over 45 minutes to arrive. When it finally did, much of it was cold--not even warm. The biggest issue, however, was the food itself. Everything was incredibly bland and lacked flavor. Mexican food is known for bold seasoning and vibrant flavors, but there was nothing memorable about any of the dishes we ordered. The service was equally disappointing. To top it off, gratuity is automatically added to the bill. While restaurants have the right to set their own policies, it certainly felt frustrating considering the level of service we received. My honest recommendation would be for Don Tigre to stick to what appears to be driving its popularity--the nightlife atmosphere, social media appeal, drinks, and appetizers. If you're looking for a place to have cocktails, take pictures, and enjoy the vibe, you may have a better experience than we did. However, the entrées were overpriced for the quality of the food, and the customer service did not justify the cost. Social media may bring people through the door, but good food and good service are what bring them back. Unfortunately, this experience fell short on both. Long wait times, cold food, bland flavors, overpriced meals, and poor service made this a place I won't be returning to or recommending. read more

The strip mall areas offers several ethnic options so looking forward to exploring next time that I am in town. Upon entry, several empty tables tables with dirty dishes- not a great sign of things to come. Unfortunately, service was pretty much non existent once we placed our food order. No one checked on us and water glasses and refill pitcher were empty without attention. Flour tortillas were brought to the table when corn were ordered...... My colleagues enjoyed their cadillac margaritas. "Tableside" guac was guac prepared and brought out with a few chips into. It was tasty but should be advertised as prepared tableside. Burrito bowls were plentiful but were overcooked and lacked much flavor. Chips were ok- salsa was borderline jarred flavor. Mocajete presentation was interesting and portion was large enough for 2-3 people . Served in a large heavy stone bowl, the meat/shrimp were tasteless and shrimp were cheap precooked ones. Came back for another lunch date and my experience was just as amazing as the first. This time I decided to try the soft serve margarita which was giving everything it needed to give. It was like liquor sorbet. For food I decided on the birria quesadilla and I was not disappointed. I also enjoyed vibing to the music and the overall ambiance. There was only one server and she had to serve both us and a large group and she did an amazing job making sure that we were enjoying our meals and other staff members were also very attentive. Now this could be because I was hungry but man that salsa was really good! Some of the best salsa I've had in a while. For food I kept it simple, but there were plenty of options from platter options to tacos, quesadillas and burritos. I ordered 2 shrimp tacos and 1 Birria taco with a side of rice. The toppings were simple, the shrimp was flavor well and lime really brought out the flavors in the green crema. The Birria taco was a little underwhelming. I go to Don Tigre often. But last night's experience really soured my views of the place. Everything was good up until the bill. Twice, the server advanced through the bill screen to show the tip screen. I couldnt see what I was actually paying for and i forgot that the bill already included gratuity. So the screen he stopped at said tip .. so this lil chunky server wanted an ADDITIONAL tip over top of the standard tip. Couldn't see that until I had the bill texted to me afterwards. While the additional tip wasnt that much, it was the sneaky underhanded way he did it. And I don't like that. And then my friend got a flavored margarita. He charged her for two mixed flavors. I could see for one. But cmon now.. how did a $7 drink become a $10 drink because you dripped a lil syrup in it. We asked for salsa for the dry ass tacos and were charged $2 for it! After buying into a few reels on social media. I was really excited about coming here to celebrate my birthday with family and friends. The reviews saw said this place was the real deal and so we drove about 45 minutes in order to come check them out. Things started off rocky from the jump. I was in a party of 8. My wife and I got there early and the rest of our party came within 20 minutes of our arrival. We were seated, and let them know we'd wait for our party to begin ordering. They started to set our tables and put out silverware and waters, but for some reason they stopped. The waiter (who was aware of our party size) would take orders from one table and leave, then come back take an order from the other. I feel like he never waited on us as a whole and so there was always someone needing something and was the case for the majority of our visit. It got to the point where I think the server was overwhelmed and stopped coming around as much, which really made things worse. The foods was decent, but to be honest the service killed the day, and what could've been a group of 8 socializing and running up a drink tab after eating our food turned into "what yall wanna do next", when this was supposed to be the move. Af far as the food, the lingua nachos were really good. I hadn't seen that option anywhere else prior. The elotes were solid, and to be honest most of the food was good. My wife liked her Al Pastor Quesadilla, and really the only people that weren't thrilled with there food were the ones that got a Molcajete, which was me (Loco) and 2 others. TBH, I probably should've just went with fajitas. I thought the steak was dry, and wasn't very flavorful, and they barely gave us tortillas. Just to be fair, I feel that I could easily come back and find something else that I would enjoy, but I wouldn't make the 45 minute drive again to find out, i'd have to already be in the area. The food is really good. I haven't had anything I don't like. On this visit I did a taco trio with chicken, carnitas, and carne asada. All were really good. I got a little adventurous and ordered the blue Rita instead of the regular margarita. It was so strong but really good. My server was really nice. He checked on the table several times. The drinks came out shortly after ordering and the food did as well. Which helps if you just want a quick in and out. But there was also no rush for us to leave in case you want to sit a little longer. What I really love is how authentic it feels. The atmosphere feels like you are in the movie coco. A real dia de muertes vibe. There was even live music at the back bar that helped enhance that feeling. read more

This cute little spot is located off-road in a local shopping center near where I live in Owings Mills. I find the area really enticing to visit because of its varieties of stores and convenient locale. You're greeted at Don Tigre with a vibrant color palette and welcoming signs, so I was already excited to try the food. Our server Myra made my brother and I feel right at home. She was a bundle of energy that made our visit very enjoyable. The birria here was some of the best I've had in a long while, so that alone will bring me back. The quality and portion sizes of the food were worth the price, along with the refilling of our chips. The ambience was festive and relaxed at the same time, and I could see myself reserving a party in the near future, or just casually dining with a friend or two. I ordered takeout from here for lunch. Overall, I am a bit on the fence about whether or not I would come back here. The service was good. I was able to order through GrubHub and they had my order ready when I arrived. The woman at the front desk was very nice. The place itself has a ton of seating and they run specials for happy hour and it looks overall like a very fun place to go out for dinner. Now to the food. My flautas really didn't have a lot of flavor to them, and the chicken inside was very dry. They were hot and they come topped with avocado, but I really wish that they had guacamole. My chicken quesadilla, I could also tell was made fresh, but it too lacked the bold flavors that I was expecting from this place from the overall appearance of the decor and the exterior. The salsa that it came with helped a little bit, but also known as, as much as I thought it would either. If I am in the area, I may try some of the other options on their menu and I'll probably go for dinner instead of lunch because I truly went there when they first opened. read more

Don tigres Classic margaritas: 7/10 - basic margarita, nothing special. Molcajete mar y Tierra: 10/10 - absolutely delicious and a huge portion for one person. Has Crab as well. Would order again. Burrito bowl steak: 8/10 - no beans and guacamole. Pretty basic bowl, Meat was very seasoned. Esquites: 8.5/10 - pretty good, nothing major. Customer service needs improvement because although there were 4 people walking around, only one seemed actually in charge of seating people, putting in food orders, bringing drinks and food. Okay, I'm not going to lie, I was pretty surprised by Don Tigre. My family and I visited on a Tuesday night. Their taco deal is 3 tacos for $15 which you can mix and match. My sister ordered the chicken and veggie which she really enjoyed. I decided on the mushroom quesadilla, which I was satisfied with, but could have used a little more seasoning (likely a personal preference). We also ordered the tableside guacamole. It was fresh and the citrus and cilantro were well balanced. The salmon taco was perfectly cooked, not too dry, and seasoned well *chefs kiss* The vibe is your typical taco Tuesday type of restaurant with a great Latin playlist and bright decor. The service was average. I asked our server what kind of lettuce was in the salad and he said he didn't know, but didn't seem to care to ask anyone either. All in all, I think this is a good taco Tuesday spot for the area that it's in. read more

Some of the best birria I've had since moving to Baltimore. The staff was really friendly, and greeted us as soon as we walked in. Came here for lunch and discovered that is was a brunch buffet for $27.99. Decided to try it out and that was a mistake. They had several options but the food was just OK. Nothing horrible but nothing that great. The rice was cold and the pork was over cooked and mostly fat. The mole chicken drumsticks were actually very good. It's a buffet so you had the occasional check in to make sure everything was OK. Fountain drinks were not included. When the check came they added an 18% gratuity for a buffet with two people. Totally did not know this establishment got packed right into my neighborhood...where have I been? Well we popped in here mid-week for some birthday drinks. Love the infamous colorful Mexican theme all around. The hostess was very pleasant. Menu items were of a decent variety. The Watermelon Sangria was sweet & refreshing. I've had fish tacos numerous times and it's always been with some type of white fish, but here they offered salmon tacos and we obliged. Very flavorful and cooked to perfection. Our waitress, Elizabeth was very friendly and provided great service! The restaurant has a great ambiance. Playing reggaeton music and greeting you with a smile upon entrance. The decor was beautiful as well! Food was pretty good but I wasn't a huge fan of the birria quesadilla, which is a shocker as I was super excited to try it. The tortilla, for me, was too thick and the meat was a bit under seasoned for my liking. My baby had a kids menu chicken burrito and for a picky 2 year old, he ate it! There was chicken, rice, cheese and some beans I believe. The chicken was real authentic chicken, which I appreciated! The chicken flaunts were excellent!!! The queso fresco on top was the star of the show for me. My drink wasn't amazing. Tasted like syrup. Per the IG reel and our waitress, it was a popular option but I should've went with my gut and got a frozen mango margarita. This blue drink only came on the rocks and featured peach snapps, coconut rum, blue curaçao, triple sec and tequila (I think that was everything)! I would return! The menu featured many items. They had outdoor and indoor seating as well as a separate bar area! The only thing worth mentioning was when I checked in, Yelp provided me with a 10% off an entree coupon. When I asked the waitress if they'd honor it, she told me the manager stated it was an "old promotion" and it would be removed from Yelp. Visited this place because I saw an amazing review on IG. Also, as it was taco Tuesday, it just seemed like a great idea. The shrimp (forgot to get a photo)seemed to be something from the frozen food section at the market - tasted delightful, fresh, nicely fried, but small; again, seemed to be purchased from the supermarket. The burrito bowl - unfortunately, my assumption (thought of chipotle, not in flavor, but presentation) and should've asked, but didn't. This too, was disappointing. Albeit freshly prepared, it was served on a plate. The steak was a grayish color (no it wasn't spoiled), I'm thinking it was a "sauce or gravy", the beans were fine - typical refried beans, a dollop of guac - tasty, Mexican rice - typical rice (again thought of cilantro rice as served at chipotle). I honestly just wasn't impressed with my "bowl," but husbae enjoyed his salad. A beautiful spot, nice staff, good salad, clean atmosphere, but I think the "bowl" should be renamed and the steak should perhaps be seared and served in a fajita style, where the meat is cooked in a hot skillet as this seemed more like it was cooked in an oven. Found a new place I really like! That's always a plus since I'm so picky! Met up with a group for "Taco Tuesday." We sat in the bar area. Parking isn't an issue. Easily found a spot in the back. They have great happy hour specials. The Taco Tuesday specials include 5 tacos/$15. I didn't end up doing that, but if I was hungry, it would definitely be worth it. I had yhe happy hour special - 2 tacos/$6. I did chicken with flour tortillas, and it was very filling. Drinks were good. Not overly strong, but that's ok! I didn't notice the sign at the door that said automatic 18% tip which is nobodies fault but mine. When I kindly asked the bartender if that was displayed on the menu, the server nearby who was running drinks cut me off to tell me the about the sign. Now i *always* tip as I'm a professional chef that has worked in restaurants 10+ years (FOH & BOH). I wasn't complaining, just asking. The server cutting me off even though I wasn't speaking to him at all was pretty rude. I probably won't return simply because of that interaction. read more

Just had lunch with my daughter this afternoon. We frequent Mexican restaurants so we've basically tried them all. I didn't understand why enchiladas were not listed on the menu. Those are my go to. Luckily I asked and they had them. I got the shredded pork and they were fantastic. My daughter ordered steak fajitas like she does 90% of the time and they did not taste very good at all. They tasted like they added curry. The waiter said some people have complained about them. The tableside guac was not tableside. It came out of the kitchen and did not taste fresh at all. The taste was just OK. Nothing like authentic tableside guac and the worst part is it cost $18. The service was very good and I planned on tipping well. I did not like the fact that they included an 18% gratuity to the check. I would've given 20% due to the good service, but since they already added it, I didn't add the extra 2%. I was surprised to see Chicken Wings and a Burger on the menu at a Mexican restaurant. The tacos were decent, but the corn shells were a bit too thick, chewy and tasted stale. Our friend who ordered the burger didn't enjoy it either. The Enchiladas Suizas was fine. However, the Tres Leches dessert was pretty good compared to the rest of the meal. My Sangria was yum. Great size!! Wings... nope. They were tiny, dry, and cold. Several of them were cold. More than half. Another bartender offered to take them back. She returned w the same Wings w added sauce and tougher than leather. She stated to let her know how they are because some NEW ones are coming out. I was so confused of why they heated these dry, baby sized Wings. I guess I wasn't deserving of a new batch. I gave them a try. Nope. Now, they're too dry to eat. There's no way in heck I'm giving them a 3rd chance to further disappoint. Due to my many allergies, there weren't too many other options for me to consider. Came here with a friend on Monday for salsa night. We had a great time. The food didn't take long at all. The service was great. I had a peach margarita that was frozen, it was strong, but maybe I'm a lightweight who knows. Jackie was the bartender and server. She was very polite. I would definitely go back on a Monday or any other night and I assume Monday is probably less busy than Their typical nights. The ambience was very chill and relaxed all in all solid place.
