I was worried when my Sub Zero refrigerator went on the blink and started melting the contents of the freezer compartment. The fact that it was a high end, 27 year old appliance increased the chances that a random selection of an appliance service person could send someone to my doorstep who was not familiar with the brand, could not diagnose the cause of the problem or had to make multiple trips to get the right parts. Wow! I am one happy girl. We got an old O'Keefe & Merritt gas stove that wasn't working. We restored and cleaned all parts before trying to put it back together. We were successful with 2 of the burners, but the stove wouldn't light. Fast forward 2 years of turning the gas on and off every time we wanted to cook something. Nobody likes it when some big company gives you a service window of when they can squeeze you in. A one man show like RB APPLIANCE takes a play from them and treats you just like that. I was given a three hour (1-3 pm)window of when RB could come by. When I called to say I was delayed and wouldn't be home till 1:45, boy was I in trouble! They weren't sure if that was going to work for them.That's what customer service is all about, right- what works for them- come on! After listening to "RB's greatest hits" ( the un-asked-for verbal resumé of hot air) he said he was going to "let me" recycle the 3'x3' cardboard box the part came in, for him. Rod Bartz is "RB Appliance Repairs". He is a sole practitioner and a true wizard of appliance operation and repair. Recently, while shopping for a replacement for our malfunctioning Dacor convection oven (we thought we were doomed to buy a new one after a mere 14 years of light usage), a local retailer suggested that I call Rod to see if he could fix it. He said Rod has been in the residential appliance repair business for more than 30 years and is the best in the area on many brands, including Dacor. We have had problems with this oven in the past so we concluded with diminishing access to replacement parts it was probably time to replace it, but instead we invited Rod to see what he could do. The results were nothing short of remarkable in my opinion. Not only did Rod diagnose the problem over the phone, but also he arrived a mere three days later with the required parts after keeping us posted on his progress via email. He was able to restore the oven to like-new operation in under thirty minutes. After the oven repair, he fixed a bent part on our Subzero refrigerator which was causing the freezer drawer to bind when opened. He checked the refrigerator compressor and advised me how and when to clean it. He then took the time to explain the design, operation and maintenance of of the Dacor oven to ensure continued trouble free operation. When he presented me with the invoice for the repair, I noted his price was fully 30% less than a quote from a competitor. There were no hidden charges for parts research and acquisition. He did not uplift the parts cost to pad his profit. And as stated above, he is focused on customer satisfaction and took the time to explain both the repair and operation of our appliance(s). The retailer said Rod was honest, competent, and efficient. They were exactly right and I would not hesitate to call Rod when future repair opportunities present themselves. Oh, and did I mention he is a truly personable man who likes his work and enjoys the customer experience. If you have a household appliance that you wish wasn't broken or would operate better whether it be an oven or a BBQ grill or a dishwasher, hire this man. You will be glad you did. read more

I called Rod to fix a washer at our business because of all the good reviews he's received on Yelp. We use this washer 2-3 times a month to wash rags and that's it. The water wasn't draining and he said that the problem was a latch on the cover and fixed it. Several weeks later we were having the same problem as before so I called and his answering machine said he was out of town for the holidays. I've been trying to contact him for the past several weeks since then and I haven't received a call back. In my experience someone who does this kind of work will guarantee his work for at least a month if not more. I wouldn't recommend him if you want to get any kind of response back after he's been paid. ***Not really the reply that you would hope for but in any case. I left you my cell number at least a couple of times and you would have been able to reach me at anytime. and it was less than 45. read more

In olden days, equipment maintenance and repair people diagnosed what was actually wrong with something before they started throwing parts at it in the hopes of finding a solution and thereby accidentally fixing the problem. Rod from RB is one of those great and rare finds these days. He's not from the new school of hit and miss repair via component substitution. When our Matag refrigerator began putting out more heat than our furnace, I called him, he offered to come by the following afternoon at 1pm or so, showed up exactly on time. Then he carefully ran the diagnostics on the control panel, a process that took about 5-10 minutes, proclaimed the brain of the icebox was working well and after taking a careful diagnostic history (better than most doctors, I might add), he determined an incident from a few weeks earlier had caused an ice block in the freezer section that had gotten progressively worse. I couldn't find it but he knew where to look. Rod told me to defrost it for 12 hours or so and see if that solves the problem. It worked and it's been cooling great ever since. He also referred me to some top-notch folks to install our new commercial kitchen equipment and I'll call him for service if need be. Rod is tops in my book and an asset to his profession. While he charges a couple of bucks more an hour than others but remember you get what you pay for and with Rod, you save big in unnecessary parts and labor and avoid repeat service calls to fix something that wasn't properly diagnosed. I am very pleased to have found Rod, helped through the strong reviews on Yelp. He answered the phone himself and offered good suggestions on the phone about my ancient GE clothes dryer that wasn't heating and a newer Bosch dishwasher that wasn't draining. I made an appointment for him to come to my home, and he showed up right on time. A quick knock on a check valve fixed the drainage problem and I had earlier fixed the clothes dryer by resetting it. His $95 service charge was well worth it as he taught me a bit about fixing these problems myself, and gave me confidence that I could call on him for all my appliance problems in the future. read more

My fridge was not cold and my freezer would not freeze ice. I called Rod this morning hoping he could take a look at is soon. I was pleased to find out he could come today and he could come after i got home from work. (saving me having to take a sick day) He was quick and efficient. He diagnosed the problem very quickly. A true SubZero Whisperer! I've read the other reviews and totally agree with all of the comments about his professionalism and knowledge. I got to see it in action recently. And, by the way, I found Wendy to be personable and knowledgeable as well in communicating with me about scheduling and getting the details of my problem. I've got a 20+ year old SubZero that was not holding temperature. He immediately diagnosed it as needing a new evaporator. But, rather that leave us in a lurch until the part came in, he got it cooling to hold us until he could come back with the repair. I am still amazed at how smooth the repair went and without disruption. Our kitchen and refrigerator are like the LA freeway! It's hard to stop and make a repair. But, he did it! And, from his knowledge and optimism about the SubZero products I am convinced that it's worth taking care of this and not falling into the "it's too old and time to replace" mode.
