Then, nearly as I hung up, they called back and said their serviceman was in the area and could he come right over? Wow! What service! Anthony got down and looked both inside and under our dishwasher, tested the controls, and found the problem, took out a part, cleaned it and replaced it and give us a ton of advice on dishwasher maintenance. This isn't a direct review of Mike's service. It's the difference between a sin of commission and a sin of omission. So here's the deal: three years ago we had Mike's appliances install a new dishwasher. It took the tech a while to get it in, but he finally did. So now, we're three years later. Suddenly, our dishwasher won't drain. We had no idea why, so we called the people who had installed it, and asked them what we could do. We knew it was out of warranty, so we expected a charge. So the woman answering the phone told us she could send out a technician, but it would cost us about $180. Having no alternative, we went ahead. So the technician arrived right on time. We told him the problem, and he went to something in our sink called the 'air gap,' and opened it up. It was plugged, and when he took out the plug, the dishwasher worked and drained just fine. That took him about thirty seconds. Our technician told us that this was the most common cause of a dishwasher that would not drain. Now, realize that, according to him, anyone who knew anything about dishwashers would just tell you to look at that first. So here's my complaint. The first thing they should have done is say, "Look at your air gap, and remove anything that's blocking it. If that doesn't work, then call us back." After all, Mike's Appliances was the business that installed the dishwasher. The least they could have done was told us on the phone to check the air gap, but of course if they did, they'd lose out on $180. So instead of losing out on that amount, they lost a customer, and also lost any chance that they'd get a good review on here. Let me tell you, and let me tell Mike's. You've lost a customer. I will never buy anything from you again, and I will do everything I can to make sure that nobody I know will ever buy anything from you ever. I hope the $180 was worth it, Mike. read more

Had Mikes appliance come out for warranty work on a speed queen washer. Come to find out it doesn't work again. Removed the front cover and noticed the belt was incorrectly installed and was chaffing on a clamp slowly wearing it down to the point there was not much material left and couldn't grip the pulley. When I called Mikes, they said the could come out to take a look for $110 dollars and if they "determined it was their error they would fix it. Didn't want to gamble on them making a determination on their poor work, so I ordered a belt off Amazon, watched a video on YouTube and fixed myself the right way. read more

I have lived in New Monterey since 1973 and have used Mike's Appliance Sales & Service for most of those years. They have installed and repaired our dishwasher, our 19+ year old Maytag Neptune front-loading clothes washer, and other appliances. They have always done a good job, trying to find the problem before charging a lot of money. Recently that old Maytag stopped working and displayed a code (RF), indicating that it was the rotor assembly. So, they brought in a new, combined unit, and the problem still occurred. After Mickey and Marty went over the plans and tried to diagnose it, they concluded it would cost more that the unit cost in the first place. So, they were nice and only charged us for the labor, not the unit. `Because of their kind consideration, we decided to get a new Speed Queen top-loading clothes washer. Sean and Mario delivered it and were very friendly and efficient about getting it set up, and picking up the old unit. The price was comparable to most of the large-volume places and I felt good about shopping local, especially since they were so generous with the repair bill. All in all, we have had good experiences with all of the folks who helped us from Mike's Appliance Sales and Service. We will use them again but hopefully not often! read more

We called Mike's Appliance Service to repair our Washer & Dryer. The technician did a good job with the repair and before he left, WE PAID HIM. Several months later, the woman who works there began calling us to say, "We did not charge you enough and you need to pay more!" We checked our records and we paid exactly what was quoted to us, and the repairman left with payment in full. We have our credit card statement to prove it. Every month this woman harasses us for more money. She threatens to send it to collections. She is nothing but a Racketeer and Extortionist. My 80 year old mother purchased an oven in October. Been a customer of Mikes for 35 years. Oven gets delivered in November and it does not work. She takes the time to get an electrician to check the electrical since Mikes said it was a problem with the electrical. Mikes returns to say it is a problem with the oven and at which time they tell her they need to order a part. Week before Thanksgiving they return with the part and it still does not work. I request they replace the over but was told by Karen "It is now your mother's oven, we do not need to take it back its hers!" hmmmmm The way a company handles issues speaks volumes to their character. Never purchase anything with cash as you have no recourse. December they return with a part but it still did not work. January part 3 still does not work. It is now time to handle with Alliance on Aging and Small Claims Court. Karen is rude, hope the owner understands how she handles his customer base. I would not use Mike's Appliance ever again. He fixed my dishwasher for over $400 and 5 months later, the same issue recurred. When I called him, he refused to come out and make it right even though the part was guaranteed because he wanted me to pay an additional service charge. Sorry, but if you can't fix it the first time, why do I need to keep paying beyond the value of the Dishwasher itself? They don't care about the customer is what I learned from this experience. We moved into a new home with a high end older Bertazonni gas stove/range. the ovens weren't heating properly. My husband is an engineer and pretty handy with fixing things, but after downloading the manual and reading through it he decided it would be better to call a repair person (Whom I'll call Joe because I don't remember his name). I was told the service fee would be $110, whether "Joe" did any work or not. So Joe came out and my husband talked to him. Joe said he had no idea what the problem, even though he claimed to have experience with this brand of stove. My husband suggested some options. Our extended warranty company called Mike's to repair our 2 year old Maytag washer, that will take up to 5 hours to wash a simple load of clothes, getting stuck on the rinse cycle, running water in and out over and over. To end the long cycles, requires stopping the load, shifting items, then running it on a simple rinse cycle. So after waiting 12 days for someone to come to fix it, he at first tells me it the loads need to be "balanced." How do you balance a single pair of pants being run on delicate? Shouldn't you be able to do a set of sheets and pillow cases without having to stop the machine and reorganize each item. So he runs a computer diagnostic program and says nothing is wrong, except possibly the door latch, which he admits has nothing to do with the drain cycle & will not address the problem. He refuses to tell the warranty company that the machine is not fixable--"its my job to fix it," yet he is unable to fix it. His only line is that his computer software says that the brain reports no trouble, so therefore, its fine. Then I tell him that my car had a defective "brain" so that was replaced, he looks confused, and just shakes his head no. So no repair, complete waste of time, and now we wait another few weeks for someone out of town to show up. Complete waste of time dealing with this appliance "repair." read more

Avoid at all costs unless you're OK paying to educate their technicians on your specific appliance model. I recently called Mike's to have them come look at my refrigerator to fix what seemed like the same problem they fixed 18 months earlier on my brand new unit. Upon arrival, the technician, not the same one that already knew how to take my refrigerator (or anyone else that had that knowledge), after 10 minutes of profanity laden frustration on his part proceeded to tell me that he wasn't sure how to diagnose the issue and he'd have to go to the shop to watch some training videos to fix troubleshoot it. One day of work I wasn't able to complete due to ignorance. Total time on site: 10 minutes Second visit: the technician, educated now in the art of disassembly, troubleshot the problem and after a few penetrating questions by me decided that the problem was limited to a single valve and not the same thing that happened last time (which required replacement of 3 or 4 parts). Two days of work I wasn't able to complete due to this issue and only a moderate amount of profanity due to busted knuckles this time. Total time on site: ~60 minutes Third visit: technician replaced the part. Success. We have a functioning refrigerator. Total time on site: 45 minutes. Three days off work now to get this fixed. Grand total time on site: ~2 hours. . . . but wait. this isn't the end of our story. No, no no, he hands me a bill for $330, $110 of which was parts. So, $240 in LABOR!!! $240 so he could learn how to take apart my refrigerator instead of just sending the guy that came last time. Not even my luxury car mechanic gets $120/hour in labor. I called to see what their hourly rate was. "We don't have an hourly rate. We bill by the job." . . . I guess it's easier to hide training time in the bills that way. After arriving unprepared for a service call (which I took off work to be there for) they insisted i pay for the service call, despite no work being done. After telling them that as an unsatisfied customer i didn't feel comfortable paying for their mistake in mismanagement, I was told that Mike's is the only person who services my fridge and if I did not pay the bill they would refuse to service my appliances in the future. This is the first time a 'service' business has threatened me, as a customer, into paying for something I did not receive under threat of never working with me again. And as there is no competition for Mike's I'm forced to cave. I'm extremely saddened by this experience. And to see a local business treat local customers this way is really a shame. I would say i do not recommend this business, but if you have a Bosch refrigerator, you don't have a choice. read more

They were called out to repair a relatively common Maytag oven that they had repaired several months earlier. They said the parts needed to be ordered, and when they returned to install said parts, they were "uncomfortable" installing them for not being exact replacements. So they billed me for the service call, rather than remedy their parts supplier not being able to supply the right parts. Insult to injury. read more

I am posting one star because Yelp won't let me post with zero. Mario from Mike's Appliance had been to my house three times on a service call - charged me each time - and the same error message persisted. I called the front desk and asked the woman to send someone else after the second visit and she said she would - nope, third time, again Mario. I also told her that she should honor the work as the error message persisted and she said no. I decided to purchase a new machine as the charges for service piled up and I could have bought a new machine by then anyway. I waited 10 months - all during Covid shutdown - waiting for a new machine. When it finally came, I ran the dishwasher and again the exact same error message. When Bosch sent out their service provider, unfortunately Mario from Mike's Appliance appeared. I asked him to check the line to the garbage disposal and/or the backflow line and he refused as it wasn't part of the "machine service contract", I reminded him that he had been to my home three times before for the same error message on a different machine and could he please check the lines while he was here - he refused. After he left and one load of dishes later, the same error message. I called Bosch again, asking for service and requesting anyone other than Mike's Appliance. They sent A&B Appliance Repair. Not only did he/Blair allow me to watch every step he took, he listened to my extended story and based on what I said he opened the backflow line, shone a light inside the tube and found the culprit - a button. It took him 5 minutes of active listening, and he solved a problem that had haunted me for three years. 5 minutes, that was it, that is all it took. Mike's Appliance or Mario wouldn't give me an ounce of common courtesy but they certainly took my money. I didn't need a new dishwasher, I didn't need to wait 10 months during Covid and being in shutdown without a dishwasher for 10 months, what I needed was a competent, intelligent, problem solving plumber/appliance repair person - for me, that was A&B Repair. read more

The very pleasant woman who answered the phone was able to set me up with an appointment the same day. Sean arrived on time and was able to diagnose and resolve the issue with my Fisher Paykel dishwasher in no time. Here's the deal with Mike's... He has a $95 diagnostic fee. This fee is applicable toward repairs. In my case, the repair man (Mickey) came out, pressed the start button on the dryer and said we needed a new motor. He did no actual work i.e. taking anything apart, etc. He pushed the button and confirmed that we needed a new motor. When asked what we were talking about--estimate-wise-- he said "a couple of hundred bucks". The next day, Mickey returned with parts, and the new quote was $475. Apparently he had neglected to add labor to his previous estimate. So now we're talking about $475 to fix a $350 dryer. This was more than I had expected to pay to repair my machine, so I called Mike to talk to him about purchasing a refurbished machine from him (which I had done years ago.) I asked Mike if he had any refurbished dryers for sale. He did. He told me I could get a machine for around $300. So I asked if the diagnostic fee that I had already paid him would be applied toward the purchase of a refurbished machine. He said "no". In order to get things straight in my head, I said "So you'll apply the fee toward fixing my machine but not towards a refurbished machine? Why not?" Mike's response was "because I said so." He then launched into a tirade about the cost of doing business, back office expenses, worker's comp insurance, gasoline, etc. After what became a heated discussion regarding the lack of any type of work his tech did, and the total 5 minute visit, Mike agreed to drop $20 off the diagnostic charge. So it cost me $75. My family and I had been customers of Mike's for years. Unfortunately, his diagnostic fee combined with his unwillingness to apply it toward a refurbished machine left me to consider buying a brand new machine with a warranty from Home Depot... which I did... for $350 out the door... including delivery and haul away of the old machine. Times are tough for everyone. Unfortunately Mike's is not a business I can afford to support anymore. And it's too bad, because when the dryer broke, I immediately thought of Mike's due to positive experiences I had with them in the past. read more

Called Maytag/Whirlpool as my husband and I were having issues with our washer and it was still under warranty. They set up an appointment with this shop and told us to call them in 15mins to confirm. Well we did, and they had no idea what we were talking about and told us to call a different number for Maytag/Whirlpool. That number we found was for the corporate offices, not exactly helpful. So while doing the run around again with the original service number, Mike's calls back. Now saying they had gotten a fax and apologized for sending us away, mentioning they forgot they had a fax machine. Ok? Anyways, someone comes out to look at the machine and he was nice enough. Determined what the issue was. It was nothing wrong with the machine, but instead the flow of our pipes. I thanked the gentleman and offered my hand to shake as that's just something I was brought out to do. Shake people's hands as they leave. But instead of a shake, I got a kiss on the back of the hand. I wouldn't have minded if it were a close friend, but a random stranger? This bothered me. Anyways he said he would call in the morning to see how the test load we ran went. So in the morning he calls and asks how it went, I told him that it went fine but we both agreed that I needed to call maintenance for this complex and have them fix the faucet. Well since it wasn't a repair, and obviously not something warranty would cover there was now a 100$ fee to talk about. I knew there was a fee, my husband and I both agreed to it so I asked if I could pay over the phone. Well then this guy offered to say that there was something wrong that was covered by the warranty Then that he could order a part and we'd make another appointment for him to come out and "install" this part. Uhh.. I was already feeling uncomfortable with the hand kiss, but then this? I'm pretty sure that's fraud. And I sure do not want any part of this. So again I ask if I can just pay over the phone, and then he just asks if we receive mail at the location he came to service. I said yes, and he said he would just send a bill. Okay then. So we get this bill in the mail and it was just a paper saying how much we owed and such. No way of how to pay? Thankfully my husband offered to call, as I did not want to, and he was able to pay over the phone, thus ending this weird interaction. Wow, my warrant group sent these people out came out after several days ordered parts, came with ice maker and other piece , put other piece in and than said ice make r working so did not install. Made ab0ut 8 cubes.called and reset appt, no one showed up. I had to call after waiting for hours. They advised me the appt had been cancelled and they had Thursday called my warranty and said not a icemaker issue. This was after lady on phone told me they never never scheduled at first and than said later oh yes I did. I forget mistakes and some things. I called Mike's for an Ice Dispenser problem and I knew in advance that there was a total of 100 dollars worth of "come out and look" and 95 of that could be applied toward a repair if I were to get that far...I didn't. The problem was a broken tab on the ice door mechanism and since that tab was built into the main housing it was considered unserviceable and parts not available even though the fridge was only about 3 years old. We talked hypothetical repair scenarios and as I expected (not Mike's fault) the amount was just too expensive considering what was actually wrong with the unit so I declined and paid for the visit. I called Sears and they wanted to sell me an entire door assembly at half the cost of the refrigerator (500 Bucks). I called Whirlpool directly and they referred me to a place called Marcone and they sold me a repair kit for the main housing based on the Model and Serial I provided them. The kit was 101.99 shipped and after I haggled them down from 129.00. The kit arrived and at least the 100 bucks I paid Mikes provided me a tutorial of how to access the internal components of the Ice Maker so that was useful. So I installed all the new parts, following the step by step instructions which to be honest is written with service trained people in mind, not green horn repair gunslingers. But I got it all in and the unit works like a charm now. I think the ease that I researched and fixed this unit myself makes me concerned that perhaps the technician that came out should have been able to do the same thing and work me up a estimate. Had I declined an accurate estimate of repair, then this rating would have been a little better as it is not Mike's fault a customer declines an estimate. read more

I gave three stars, but I'm unsure how to rate. Mike's has very friendly technicians, who are helpful, cheerful, knowledgeable, and we always receive service within a few days. When I call (during business hours) I almost always speak to a live person, which is refreshing in this day and age. However. The reason I'm such an expert on Mike's is that they have been out to service our same washing machine at least 6-8 times, and now it's broken again, after having it serviced just yesterday. I'm currently awaiting a call back from a supervisor re my request to simply replace the washer rather than service it yet again. Our washer is less than two years old; we shouldn't be having these issues. I don't know if it's the washer or the repair techs at Mike's which are the problem, hence my reluctance to give only 3 stars. But, they are the experts; I feel they should have been able to resolve our issue before 6-8 service visits. read more

SHORT VERSION:  Incompetent, slow, disorganized, and unreliable.  Their technicians lack the necessary training and experience to diagnose and/or fix simple appliance problems. And they do not know how to fill out the necessary paperwork or computer forms to process customer home warranty claims.  Save yourself time, money and frustration --- do not do business with Mike's Appliance Service and Repair. LONG VERSION:  All the other negative Yelp reviews are correct --- Mike's Appliances does a terrible job. The digital display went out on our premium exhaust range hood in November.  It was less than 2 years old.  I contacted my home warranty company. They confirmed that the unit was covered and said a technician from a local repair shop would come to our house in a few days. Eight days later a technician from Mike's Appliances (Rick) came to our house. He seemed to be in a real hurry.  He looked at the exhaust hood for a minute or two and said he said he needed to order a new display for the exhaust hood through American Home Shield. Nothing happened for an extended period of time.  Eventually I called American Home Shield.  They said two weeks after the service visit Mikes Appliance had sent them paperwork re the exhaust hood. THAT'S 2 WASTED WEEKS RIGHT THERE.  They said they had sent the replacement part to Mike's Appliances some time ago.  MORE WASTED TIME.  I then called Mikes Appliances. They eventually found the part they misplaced, but for some inexplicable reason scheduled the return technician visit out for several more weeks.  MORE WASTED TIME. Rick returned with another technician. Rick said exhaust hoods were not his specialty and the other technician was there to install the display.  (If exhaust hoods were not Mike's specialty, why did Mike's Appliances dispatch him on the 1st visit???)  I went back to my office.  A few minutes later they called me out and Rick sheepishly said they had received the wrong part.  The part they received had nothing to do with the display.  WHY DIDN'T THEY LOOK AT THE LABEL, OR OPEN THE BOX,  WHEN IT REACHED THEIR SHOP?  MORE WASTED TIME.  Rick attempted to blame the home warranty company.  (But the home warranty company later told me that Mikes Appliances had filled out the paperwork or computer form improperly and that's why the wrong part was shipped.)  The customer doesn't want to hear Mike's Appliances and the home warranty company blaming one another --- the customer just wants the covered appliance fixed. Nothing happened for several weeks.  I finally called American Home Shield. They said Mike's Appliances had not filled out the 2nd round of paperwork properly and that caused another delay.  MORE WASTED TIME. Rick and another co-worker finally showed up in early March. They spent 45 minutes removing the old display and installing a new one.  IT STILL DIDN'T WORK.  THESE GUYS HAVE NO IDEA WHAT THEY ARE DOING.  Rick sheepishly said they would reach out to American Home Shield and request a new board for the exhaust hood, and that it was going to "take awhile".  Since it took them months to order and receive the correct display from American Home Shield, I assumed it would be at least as long to get a computer board.  But then, inexplicably, the receptionist called me back a couple days later and said the part had arrived and she scheduled the install.   Rick and a co-worker showed up, my wife left them in. Deducting for the time it took for them to bring in their tools, set up, and clean up at the end, they spent approximately 9 minutes working on the exhaust hood.  My wife came into my office where I was working and said "You better get out here, they are trying to leave, and I don't think they fixed it."  I came out just as Rick was walking toward the front door, with his head down and the other guy behind him.  They would have walked out if I had not stopped them.  I asked Rick "Did you fix it?"  He sheepishly said "No."  I asked him if he installed the new computer board?  He sheepishly said "Uh, um, no we installed another display, um but it does not work."  You know how when a child doesn't want to fess up that they did something wrong ... that's how this conversation went.   Rick could not explain why they showed up with another display, instead of a computer board, like he promised at the end of his last visit.  I asked "What's next?" He said he would let American Home Shield know it can't be fixed and American Home Shield would contact me with my options. I subsequently found out from American Home Shield that  --- once again --- Mike's Appliances failed to fill out the paperwork properly letting American Home Shield know the display cannot be fixed.  So my claim is in a sort of permanent limbo thanks to the failures of Mike's Appliances. I am third party to GE Stove delivered to a Carmel client of mine. I say 'third party' because I never initiated the repair call. Less than 30 days after delivery and installation of the gas stove, my client's housekeeper found a piece of rubber molding hanging down from the grill. She phone Mike's, but actually didn't explain that the part was missing - she simply said, "Take this stove back and bring me a self-cleaning one - in almond." After phones call and rants from myself - I actually brought the part to Mike's researched the 100+ pieces of the GE inventory and never came up with it. Along with Mike, I am of the notion that this was apiece of packing left over from the initial delivery. Mike - who would like to retire - spend quite a bit of time going over the potential 'problem'. He went so far as to agree to visit my client's home in Carmel to see for himself. We like doing business with our community small businesses - not sure I would have had the same responses from a 'big box' store. Let's put it this way - he's been in business for over 35 yrs. he must be doing SOMETHING right because there's far too much competition 'out there'. Our relatively new dishwasher wasn't draining or cleaning the dishes very well. Mario from Mike's Appliance found the problem right away- it was a clog in the drainage system. He fixed it and told us how to prevent it from clogging again. The dishwasher works great now. Mario was polite, friendly and competent. I would definitely use Mike's Appliance again. read more

Service appointment was difficult to get. Repair man didn't look fully at the broken freezer, just said it was the seal, which he had replaced at his last service call. (The seal was functioning properly) Would not recommend. read more
