A Happy Hour disappointment or an Unhappy Hour Dan and I were here last week for lunch when we took our dog to Dog Day Wednesday at the Gathering Place. We were pleased with our lunch. We split chicken tenders and fries. We thought the advertisement of their week day Happy Hour and their Tuesday and Wednesday specials looked like good deals. This week, we timed taking Baxter to the Gathering Place so we would be leaving the park at Happy Hour. What a disappointment! I don't give under 3 stars just because I don't like the food. This happy hour gets 2 stars because it appears they were purposefully deceitful with their Happy Hour menu. First, they advertised happy hour beer for $3. Our beers at lunch last week were $7.50. We thought $3 during happy hour would be a big saving. In smaller print it says to ask your server for today's selections. Okay, we thought maybe they changed the happy hour beers every day. Turns out the $3 beers are just lower quality beers which always cost $3. The server did try to tell us they were the discounted beers, but on further questioning, we discovered that is the regular price for those beers. There's no discount. There's no today's selection. If you want to order the $3 beers during Happy Hour, you can. You can also get those beers for $3 any other time because that's their regular price. I ordered one and it tasted like the cheapest beer on the menu. On the back of the Happy Hour easel was an advertisement for their special nights. Wednesday is hamburger night. I assumed the burgers would be regular sized. It looked like a good special, a burger and fries for $6. I was shocked when I saw the size. I would say the buns are somewhere between a happy meal bun and a biscuit. I put a fork next to the little burger to help show the size. The fries which had been fresh and delicious at lunch last week tasted like they had sat under a heat lamp way too long. We left most of them. I will likely go back for lunch sometime because they have a dog friendly patio, but that is our last happy hour there. BTW. The free appetizer of chicharrones are pork rinds. It is my fault that I didn't know the correct name for pork rinds. I was eating them asked Dan what they are made of and commented that they looked a lot like pork rinds. He said, "I think that's what they are." It was my fault for not knowing. Just passing this on in case someone else doesn't know the proper name for pork rinds.

BOOZY BRUNCH! Best dog friendly - climate controlled patio. Doggie water provided. Not to mention the best Veggie omelette!!

We stood by the host table for 10 minutes and not a single person acknowledged us, even though more than 5 staff/waiters walked right past us. All we got was a side eye. We had to go look for a person that can seat us. I read online that the patio was temp controlled but it was actually not, it's just open patio seating. The food was very subpar, truffle fries came cold and hard, zero truffle taste. We also got the chicken cigar, burger, buffalo chicken sandwich, and the Caesar salad, all were just extremely mediocre and boring. Will not be back

Dog friendly patio seating noisy but fun. We split a very generous order of chicken tenders with fries. More than enough for the 2 of us. Quite tasty with honey mustard dipping sauce. Plan to return soon.

Food was great. Service excellent and vibrant atmosphere. Excellent ice coffees and cocktails. We were a big party so got lots of options for brunch. Donut holes were plentiful. Portions large. Only thing I was not a fan of was the lobster & prawn bisque (not my favourite). But the french onion soup was delicious. Bacon was candied.

Popped in just for a drink on a Friday afternoon and it happened to be happy hour! My friend and I each got several drinks off the happy hour menu - they were delicious. I had a grapefruit concoction with gin and my friend had a fruity mojito. The complementary chicharrones though..my FAVORITE. Be sure to ask for them! They came out popping and crackling! Waitress was cheerful and attentive :)

One of the best places to take your dog for a chill hang out. The patio is huge and has heaters in cold weather. Part of the patio is enclosed in winter, and you CAN take your pups in there too. I learned that the hard way after sitting outside along the street and the waitress told us we could always move into the enclosed patio. How cool is that? Tons of space. This is the only place I've found that offers brussels as an appetizer and the portion is large. I love a delicious, healthy app. I would go here just for this snack. The truffle fries, chicken tenders, and Royale burger (thick patty) were all delicious too. If you love dill pickles, you will love their thick cut pickle chips that come with burgers. This is a Brookside favorite.

Came for the Taco Tuesday special and ordered the $3 tacos. Once again I was blown away by how good they were!

There is street parking in front and a very small lot behind the restaurant. I have visited for brunch and dinner several different times. We have played Sunday night trivia, watched a football game and hung out with friends and enjoyed every meal and cocktails. The truffle and sage fries are one of my go to items when visiting, the fries are thick and crunchy and the chipotle aioli is yummy. I enjoyed my avocado Huevos the corn tortillas should be cracked into smaller pieces, that is my only critique because the flavor is good even without cheese. The chicken wings are really good and I love the Brussel sprouts here. The service is consistent each visit. Whether enjoying the patio or seated inside, you will enjoy the food.

My twins love this place, too!

Only visible staff was the bartender (owner?). She was a terrific waitress. Love those $4 martinis. Hubby ordered his fav fish & chips, I ordered the "Black & Blue" flatbread. I would have sent back his whole plate. Instead of toasty brown everything was burnt. The black & blue: some great flavor from the cheese, tomatoes, pickled red onion, nonmemorable horseradish sauce, pretty presentation. My opinion, leave off what little steak there is. Adds nothing to the flavor, only some tough chew bites. The crust: I know there's argument here. I'm usually for good char on a pizza (I've had pizza all around Italy). But this was burnt and smelled burnt. Disappointed? Way. We'd wanted to get there for some time. I'm still intrigued by some of their menu items. We may give them another chance and view this as a very off day.

The chicken fried steak is the best in town, but the real showstopper is the fried shrimp. They are huge! Chicken tenders are also a solid option here. The waffle fries and gravy... I could eat those all day, every day if it wouldn't make me as big as a house. This place stays very busy all day long, but the staff are fast, friendly, and they do a good job of turning tables. It can get pretty loud in here, but they do have a little side area if you want space for private party. We've called ahead and reserved it in the past.

The Yale location is still alright when I am craving some delicious green beans. It's also a lot of food for your buck, even with the price increases over the years. The entrees allow you to choose a never-ending potato (cottage fries are excellent). You also get endless green beans. They are truly delicious. I splurge and get the apple sauce, as well. It has delicious chunks of apple (even though I'm pretty sure they just add them to store-bought). I get the fried chicken strips and end up with a meal the next day. Their signature is their white gravy. It's sacrilege in Oklahoma, but I'm not a gravy fan. I ask them to leave it off, but I usually end up with it anyway. My husband enjoys it, but it's nothing to write home about. They also charge (at the time of this writing) $3 for rolls. The service is very hit or miss. Unfortunately, they are not assigned sections. This leads to being bothered constantly or ignored. We were there recently when it was slow, and a server was doing walking laps almost the entire time. Other times, you sit with empty drinks forever. Overall, it's good for comfort food with large portions. If you are picky about service, it may be a crapshoot for you.
