According to my son we need to drive all the way 4 hrs back to the Frio just to eat here!!! We were looking for something on the way home and this popped up. It had good ratings, even though the building looks like an old trailer home. A friend said "oh yes its sooooo good, we love it!" So in we went! Our group got a lil of everything to try. There was six of us total and we run around the table and gave our rating out of five stars and everybody gave it above a 4.5. Some of the food was fantastic!! -- recommend the chicken fried steak 100%, taco was good as well, rice and beans good!!! Enchiladas with CHILI GRAVY was good, but you have to request that - would not order it the way they serve it again though because they use like cream of chicken soup and it was awful. BBQ was good, sauce was good! My friend raves about the potato salad! Wouldn't get biscuits again, very dense and not really my fav, but saw other reviews loved it. Chorizo and egg was decent - cant really mess that up just wish for a softer tortilla Overall, we will definitely be stopping in here again. Next time we go to the river, but I would just stick to the barbecue and chicken fried steak because those were absolutely amazing. read more

As we walked in an hour prior to closing, we were greeted by the workers and customers. We walked up to the ordering area and were offered a menu. They i formed us of their specials which made ordering more challenging as it all sounded delicious. We decided to each order something and pick of each other. That was a good idea as everything was flavorvul and delicious. All food was served hot and quickly after seating. Everything was filling and we look forward to coming back on our next camping trip for lunch. read more

Only gave 2 stars because those reviews can't be deleted, 1 star reviews can be deleted. If I could have given zero stars I'd have done that. The only reason we stopped here was because there isn't much else around and we were passing through with kids that needed to stop. The wait time was plain unacceptable, we had to get up and ask for refills, refilled drinks were incorrect, the only bathroom (that employees also used) had a completely empty soap dispenser and no paper towels, all meals came out one at a time which was incredibly inconvenient for a family (half our table was finished before the other half even got their food), one meal was up charged to a combo that was a miscommunication on their part and that they wouldn't fix on the bill, there was nothing posted about bills not being able to be split and it wasn't on the menus so when we had to get someone to close our tab there was clearly a frustration on their end about having to split the bill so we ended up having to pay all at once because they made it seem like it would take awhile, and lastly most of our party didn't finish their food because it was not even good. Save your nerves and don't waste your time, this isn't the mom and pop / hole in the wall place you're looking for. read more

Found this little spot on our way home from Leakey, it is quaint and quiet. The service was very good and even though they did mess up one of our orders, they immediately let us know and corrected it. I was given the chicken fried steak on accident when I ordered chicken strips originally. However, this was a lovely surprise as the CFS ended up being so delicious especially when paired with the hand breaded onion rings. Everyone in our party (9 people) cleaned their plates, so I would surely say the food is stellar! read more

Been wanting to try this place for a while and so glad we finally made it over! My boyfriend had a plate of scrambled eggs, brisket taco, and barbacoa taco. His favorite was the brisket taco with the scrambled eggs coming in second. For myself, I order the R burger! It was absolutely delicious and easily makes the top of my favorite burgers list. The brisket/ grilled onions/ patty, cheese, and bbq sauce were perfect in each bite! The ladies running the show were awesome and worked together to assist all the customers. Hole in the wall joint in Sabinal. Interior: cozy and old diner feel. No frills Food: BBQ is extremely dry and the brisket seemed to be precut and heated right after order; it is very sinewy and chewy. The sides are okay; they don't taste homemade to me. Stopped here for breakfast on our way home from the Frio and will plan to stop again next time - probably on the way in and going home! Kids had the Irma - with pancakes, eggs, bacon and toast. They said it was the best and still had pancakes leftover. Hubby and I got breakfast tacos. But the showstopper was the breakfast biscuit. DON'T sleep on ordering something with those biscuits. Staff was super friendly and accommodating. Brought out chocolate syrup so my kids could make their own chocolate milk. Hole in the wall as you are heading into Sabinal from Gardner State Park. Hours are 7am to 2pm seven days a week so good if you are coming or going to the park. They have a really good brisket burger, and beware it is huge!!!! read more

Good service and great tasting BBQ. Would recommend coming a bit earlier in the day to get the freshest cuts. We came in the last half hour ( we were aimlessly touring small towns and we're getting hungry when we saw they were open, didn't realize they closed at 2, so we had only 34 min left..this end of the day) so the brisket and sausage was a bit dry but the flavor was so good. Stopped by on our way home from camping on the Frio. Place doesn't look like much from the outside, but the food was extremely good. Three members of the family had breakfast (pancakes, migas and breakfast tacos) and one kid had bean and cheese nachos and a burger. The tortilla chips and all made from scratch and super fresh. I always pass by Sabinal, TX and see a sign that says bbq at 6am...well I decided to try it yesterday morning. The lady gave me a menu and said that she could make any breakfast taco I desired so I had her do a bbq brisket, potato, and cheese, which was not on the menu and was a weird craving I had but it came out great! The tortilla was Fluffy and the taco was packed well. Sometimes places put more potato than meat but this one she made has more meat in it. This place is actually listed twice on yelp. I understand that being a food joint in Sabinal, TX must be difficult. Wanting to serve authentic southern-style food but lacking the population of a thriving city to make a restaurant really take off... Having any successful business located in this once healthy and populated, now-abandoned, blink-and-you'll-miss-it speed trap on US 90 is difficult these days. But a little effort on R's part would really go a long way. Other than a few select menu items, most of what's served here is prepackaged, frozen, from a can, etc. Hardly any real "homemade" type cooking goes on here. The lunch special can usually be trusted for a decent meal. And I'd stick to menu items that are based on the barbeque - it's not spectacular by any means, but again, decent. The rest of the menu is just too extensive for what little business this place gets. They really need to condense and just stick to a few things that they do moderately well instead of trying to appeal to every taste bud out there. I've heard reports that their enchiladas and sandwiches are alright. Just stay away from things like the burgers, chicken fried steak, chicken strips... they're all frozen. read more
