We come here when in town ( my pilot husband is based out of CVG). Every Y seems to have their own flavor; this one seems a bit more chill. *6 lane, 25 yard pool, with lap swimming interspersed throughout the day with water classes, swim lessons and swim team *large cardio gym with treadmills, stair steppers. Bicycles. Circuit equipment as well as free weight section. I've seen some mixed reviews, and I don't want to dismiss anyone's concerns, but I've personally had a consistently positive experience at the R.C. Durr YMCA. The staff has always been kind, respectful, and attentive. In my opinion, this is one of the best YMCAs in the area. The facility is spacious and well-maintained, with clean equipment and ongoing updates that show they care about keeping things current. Compared to the Ft. Thomas location, which can feel a bit cramped, this branch offers a much more comfortable workout environment. It does get busy after work hours, but with a little patience, it's still very possible to get in a solid workout. Overall, I highly recommend this location for anyone looking for a welcoming and well-equipped gym. read more

Downgraded membership and was double charged for 2 months and they refused to refund. Pools are closed constantly. Have seen several lifeguards be unnecessarily rude and specifically target Muslim families and children as well as adults with disabilities. Not at all what I thought I was signing up for as far as the experience and offerings and the charging practices are nothing short of fraudulent. Do not join!! read more

I have been going to this YMCA basically my whole life and I recently went in to work out and this older ymca employee started screaming at me right when I walked in. She said "put on a shirt put on a shirt you can't wear that "and I was simply wearing and Aerie workout shirt. Keep in mind I have worn this outfit at least 10 times to the YMCA and no one has ever said anything. Grown men wear completely cut out shirts and wife beater T-shirts and they say nothing. I felt like that was completely unprofessional and it made me feel very embarrassed. I'm not sure who this lady was she had short hair and it was dark but she's the rudest person I've ever met in my entire life. DO NOT COME TO THIS YMCA! I will show exactly what I was wearing. Never in my life have I witnessed a more disrespectful, petty, smug staff. My extended family and I have gone here for years. Even as a child, I remember being shamed for my swimsuit or barked at by staff members. I would not recommend coming here if you want to feel welcomed and respected. I am not a karen. I am and always have been quiet and respectful, along with my sisters and cousins. I have had far too many awful interactions with the staff and will be cancelling my membership. For instance, an older employee who was working out in the gym had the AUDACITY to scrape my arm with her fingernail to get my attention. Once I took my headphones off, she admitted she was not on schedule that day, but felt the need to express her vehement disdain for my outfit. She pointed to my cousin and said "for once, she's wearing something acceptable. But you're not," she proceeded to point in my face and said "you need to put a shirt on or leave." I understand that it is against policy to show your midriff, but the tonality of her voice was degrading and unnecessary. I am a member of this facility just as everyone else, I will not be spoken to like a high schooler at my full adult age. I have been chased down to the women's locker room bathroom where an employee stopped me and announced to the public (as I am actively trying to go into a stall to use the bathroom) that I have an outstanding balance of 20 dollars. Not only was this incorrect and I had no outstanding balance, to follow a guest into the BATHROOM and yell "m'aam!! M'AAM!" is extremely bizarre, inappropriate, and rude. I was so taken aback by the interaction and angry. Today was the last straw. Today I went to the gym with my relatives who have attended this YMCA for years. We are familiar faces. One of my relatives no longer had a membership, so I was going to sign her in as a guest. Upon asking kindly for a guest pass, the employee who "helped" us met us with smug looks, eye rolls, and insolence. I have gone here since I was in elementary school, and now I am graduating college. Never in my life have I had an issue with signing a guest in. He interrupted me in the middle of my sentence with "No," and an eye roll, then moving onto another guest. Long story short, he was miraculously able to materialize a guest form after hell was raised. Apart from this, the employees are extremely judgmental and are constantly giving me side eyes and nasty looks, I am never greeted like other guests-- rather than ignored. My cousin has been stopped mid workout numerous times and accused of not signing in (she has attended since she was a child, and has never not signed in). These people are rude and self-righteous. For the money it costs to go here, it is not worth the awful environment these Karen's create. Do not come here if you want to feel like an equal, welcomed guest. Would not reccomend going here to use their gym if you are a younger girl or adult women who enjoys the freedom of wearing cute clothes or outfits to the gym. Had an employee come up to my telling me to cover up because my sports bra was too much. Have worn this same outfit on mulitple occasions, nothing was ever said. I have been going to this gym for well over 4ish months and wear just a sports bra with a cover up while I walk in everday and there has never been a problem. Always felt very judged here by employees and older members. Safe to say I will never be back here. read more

Long-time member of YMCA's across the US. This one is old, smelly, judgy, CROWDED and more like a community center for kids -with workout facilities, than a "gym". The workout room is hot and (did I mention STINKY) and it's always, always, always, packed. There is only one, SMALL pool. SMALL, PEOPLE. and it is usually filled with people or underutilized because of "rules". This area could really use a new facility with more options, more space and better people. If the YMCA had a Light version- this would be it, but always filled to capacity with kids and ran by Karens. I cancelled my membership because there is no other YMCA within driving distance and the nearest swim club is outdoor only. I'm stuck for a year, here. Don't make the same mistake. read more

This is such amazing place for some just starting out in the fitness world or someone with a family. I personally started here to get my physical health in much better shape . This is super beginner friendly. It's very clean . The staff is so nice and helpful. The classes I enjoy very interactive and such a good workout. Lots of cardio machines. The weight lifting room has all the essentials . Everyone who goes to the gym there is super nice and friendly . The locker I feel like could be more clean.. I wish the weight lifting was bigger but it's not a huge deal. One major issue I have is the hours I feel like they aren't open for someone who has a busy schedule. Overall I love it! read more

What a scam this place is running. I filled out paperwork to remove my daughter from summer camp for one week and they said I would need to pay for the week she is gone. What an embarrassment of a company to charge someone for a week when the child will not be there. It is in the contract I will give them that much, so they cover their a.. This is the first YMCA we have ever been members of, however research tells us that it is the most expensive we have seen. The workout facilities are nice enough. There are LOTS of kids programs as well. We do lots of sports through them and the kids have a good time . My issue is with the staff. They are horribly rude for the most part and their rules are hilariously ridiculous. My wife takes my kids to the daycare facility while she works out, some of the ppl are okay in there, and others are awful. I have an infant, 4, and 6 year old. Every now and then they will come get my wife and say, "**** has been screaming for 45 minutes!" Who lets a baby cry for 45 minutes!? The pool is a nightmare. We had our kids swim tested and they were given yellow and green wristbands indicating their competency as swimmers. We went to the pool ALL summer where they went down the water slide, in and out of the deep water, no issues, etc... One day we went and were told that the kids were not in the system as being swim tested. This was MONTHS after we had done it. The woman by the pool, 40s/50s with a European accent could not have been more rude. She acted like it was my wife's fault, and just kept saying, "Well, they aren't in here!" Again, let me remind you, we have been here about 20-25x all summer doing this, and today this woman gives us trouble. She makes my wife look like an idiot in front of everyone in line, and eventually we have to go get swim tested. Okay. So the 16 year old kid who is the "life guard" gets the kids in the pool and IMMEDIATELY goes, "Sorry! They're Red Bands!" He barely saw them swim, didn't even give a chance, and totally blew off my wife. He then Proceeded to go over to the check in lady and was clearly badmouthing my wife/kids to her while whispering with their backs turned to my wife. Now let me remind you- we have been swim tested before. One kid was green, one yellow, has been this way ALL summer! We did the swim test on the very first day of the summer that the pool was open. Is it out fault that the teenager doing the test screwed up at their job and didn't key it in?? Now today this woman and this kid don't even give us a chance and force Red bands on them meaning now we have to explain that they can't play On the slide anymore and have to stay in arm's reach of mom. Right... Let the crying begin! thanks Lady. Then my wife decided to go back and apologize to the woman as se felt maybe she had been rude to her, and guess what se said????? "yeah, the lifeguard says those kids couldn't even swim a stroke! If I had listened to you your kids would have drown!" I have home video of my kids playing in this same pool, on that same slide, etc... They can swim, they know what to do. This was the most embarrassed we have been in a while. Thank you YMCA staff for embarrassing my wife, and ruining a hot day at the pool for my 4 and 6 year olds. read more

From the heart-pounding group fitness classes to the phenomenal child-care staff, Boone County residents are truly privileged to have such five-star fitness and family center. A member for almost a year now, I'm always impressed with the variety and quality of the activities this center provides. This facility includes an indoor and outdoor swimming pool, sauna, fitness area with free-weights, full-size gymnasium, secure child watch center, and group fitness rooms. I love taking Zumba, yoga, and boot camp classes here because the instructors are always pushing their students to the next level of achievement. For me the real selling point of this Y was how seriously they took the child watch duties. Only staff members can enter the child care room, and children can only leave when their parents arrive with their ID card, which must match the bar coded sticker the child receives upon entry. Nervous parents who are working out in the fitness room can even keep an eye on their progeny by watching a closed circuit monitor of the child care room. The only reason that I'm not giving the YMCA five stars is because the facility is not large enough for the community that it serves. Frequent waiting lines for cardio equipment, overcrowded group fitness classes, and jam-packed swimming pools have made me really frustrated lately. However, I've been told that once the new senior center is completed the more amenities will be added downstairs. read more

We've been a member of R.C. Durr YMCA since August of 2007. When we bought our first home in 2008, one of the main considerations was it had to be near R.C. Durr. (We ended up buying a place within walking distance of it.) I'm not going to tell you about the great facilities there because you can find out about those at their web site. I'm going to tell you about the great people that are there. I think it's really telling that the same friendly folk have been working the front desk there almost since we joined over three years ago. They know your names, greet you, tell you to "have a great day" when you're leaving and notice when you've missed a few times (and congratulate you on coming back). Great staff! Most of our fellow members are very friendly too, especially those who work out in the pool in the early mornings like we do. They also notice if we miss and have suggestions if we're having problems. As you can guess from this post, we haven't been as religious about going to the Y as we used to be. But, believe me... it's us, not them! read more

My son loves this place! The gym gets busy during basketball season but he keeps busy with ping pong and swimming! You can actually use the pool as a non-member for a small fee so that's a huge plus for the community! Grateful for this place! Can't wait to use the outdoor pool, wonderful design and clean. I recently moved to Kentucky from a very small town in Illinois. I have been a member at four different YMCAs as an adult. This is, hands down, the worst. I was very excited to see all of the programs they offer. I talked with someone about membership and was told about the pools and water parks. My kids saw cheerleading and tumbling programs. They were stoked! The first time we went there we were asked if we were referred. We weren't, but it seems to be common practice for whoever is walking past you in the lobby to refer you. Both get 20% off of the membership. If you refer more people you get $20. Why not just reduce the price 20% so that more people would come? I have to say this YMCA is the most expensive I've seen also. My family has been there a total of four times. The second time I went there it was for my daughter's swim lesson. I dropped my first grader and 6-month-old in the child watch center. Between changing, the class, and changing again my kids were left in the care of the child watch center for a little less than an hour. I hadn't even gotten to the desk when a woman barreled through the doors and yelled, "Are you S****'s mother!?! He's been crying since you left!". Firstly, I was not only in the building, but I was also only 30 feet away. Why would they let an infant cry for an hour? I went to go inside and grab my hysterical baby. She stepped in front of me and refused to allow me inside. I was livid. She said employees only and parents are not allowed in the room under any circumstance. I told her that I know that's illegal in Illinois and I intended to find out if that's the case in Kentucky. Upon investigation, it is against the law to prevent parents from entering a childcare facility. This YMCA gets around that because they're not licensed. I called the CEO and no one responded. Jacob Brooks, the executive director, did call me. He pussyfooted around subject talking about "exceptions to the rules" and I was aghast. "It's for the safety of the children", he explained. Four YMCAs and this is the first that does not have better security measures than to keep parents out of there. It looks highly suspicious, at best. After several conversations and emails I was told that the policy (which was never explained to me fully. Parents are allowed inside. No, wait, only in certain circumstances. No, they can't come inside. Well of course you can come inside to calm your child or breastfeed) will remain, but the employees only sign would be removed. Fast forward two weeks. Again, I dropped my baby and first-grader in the child watch room. I made it very clear that I do not want my child crying for more than 10 minutes. Fifteen minutes later I was pulled from the tumbling class to get my son. I said he may want to breastfeed. Again, I was blocked from entering to retrieve or feed my baby. Instead, I was left standing in a very busy lobby on a Monday at 5 pm with my breast exposed. This is beyond ridiculous. They did promise refund my membership fees and program costs. The fact still remains. I don't know what they're doing in there and they certainly don't want me to know. My kids will NEVER be allowed in any room or facility where I can't walk inside and see what they're doing. read more

I've never been a full-fledged member of the RC Durr Y, but have used the outdoor swimming facility a number of times. I love this pool. It has many different features that make it great for all ages including a slide, a pool with a easy-entrance, and a lap-lanes pool. In the shallow end of the pool there were water fountains that had never been on when I was there. The only thing this pool was missing was a deep end where diving would be permitted. Otherwise, this pool was so fun to go to and the lifeguards were attentive and the staff was kind. read more

I was a member here for about 18 months. The fitness area is nice but the locker rooms are terrible. I understand they are locker rooms but having to navigate older men that think its okay to walk around naked while they talk to each other or hang out at the urinals is just plain wrong. We would never let our kids go into the locker room on their own. Also, there is a guy the uses the blow dryer to blow dry his nasty socks. The smell is awful and lasts for over an hour in the locker room. It's just plain disgusting. The Y is suppose to be a family place, which I think it is, aside from the locker room. Our kids enjoyed the outdoor pool and swim lessons. Overall, it's okay (if you don't use the locker room) but it is expensive compared to other workout facilities. read more

I can understand the other reviews here because if you have small kids it's great to be able to check them into the child care while you go to a class or to work out. Aside from that though I don't think this is a great place to go, the staff seems determined to make sure kids don't have fun in the pools, either indoors or out, and there seems to be an overall lack of customer service. I have observed kids splashing in the pool and getting in trouble because of it even though they were not presenting a danger to anyone. You're probably thinking I'm talking about my kids but I'm not, it just adds an air of confinement to the experience because you have to caution your kids to not splash or have too much fun. Probably the best example I have is from a time we went for a family swim in the winter. There was a lot of hassle because we had not been there in a few months and the life guards didn't seem to know if they needed swim tests or not, although the kids all had green bands a few months prior to this visit. Then some more families showed up so there were maybe 4 or 5 families in the pool, along with a class and 2 lap swimmers. Half of the pool was closed off for lap swimming and the class was using about 2/3's of the other half. The class instructor then put a rope up to confine the families to about 1/8th of the pool in the shallow end because they were encroaching on the class area. It sure seemed like a waste of the resource and they could have easily invited the families to take over a lap lane but I guess that was outside the rules. I could go on but hopefully you get the idea. The Burlington area really could use another facility, the YMCA is always crowded, especially in the summer. With another option I think the competition would really help the Y to improve the customer service experience and make it the facility it should be and what the community deserves. read more

Only place where I've seen an entire gymnasium closed off so they can have a spinning class for 3 people. The Y is cute if you like this sort of thing. You know what type of place you are going to when you signed up though. No one ever said the y was run by great management but you get decent facilities for a decent price with some family offerings. read more

What a great all-around community center! My family has been members of this Y since it opened and we wouldn't dream of joining another gym. First of all, I've never been to a gym in my life that had cleaner locker rooms. Then there's all the classes they offer (free fitness classes anyone?!) and at a variety of times. It's nice to be able to actually write a POSITIVE review about a fitness club because my experience over the past 5-7 years in the Cincy area hasn't been the all that good. Let me start by saying that this is a "Family Fitness Center" and by that I mean kids, lots of them. So if you're looking for a "no kid" gym with a huge weight room and a billion fitness machines this place is NOT for you, period. I've done all those places and had my credit card fleeced for fees and charges I never authorized and then watched nearly every one either go out of business or get bought out by another company only to do the same things all over again, and all the time these places kept getting dirtier and run down as each year passed. RC Durr is a B-U-S-Y place and although the weight room has pretty much everything you'll need it's small, we're talking more than 12-15 folks in there moving around and it starts to get a little tight. The cardio and weight machine room isn't the biggest either given the large membership retention RC Durr runs close to capacity a good portion of the prime gym hours. Pick the really off hours and you can avoid the crowds but after 4PM be patient. But, with all that said, it's busy for a reason. For starters there is "Gym Etiquette" and 95% of the people that go there actually follow it, yeah you'll always have that slimeball that doesn't rack his or her weights back or doesn't wipe down equipment after use but most everyone else does! And some people will actually pick up after others as a way of saying "Not in my gym". For as busy as this place is it's CLEAN, always! If anything is broken, they fix it! The longest time I've seen a piece of apparatus down for service is 2 days. The staff is nice and I say nice first because you can be professional and at the same time, flat out rude. They are NICE and professional and that's a first for me in a gym. Lastly, cost, very reasonable considering everything they offer in the center is included in your membership, indoor and outdoor pool, weight room, cardio and weight machine room, child care, sauna, classes and so on. For me the 5th star of this review was probably pushed by convenience. It's close to home (3 miles) but, for anyone who lives within 5-10 miles that convenience is closely matched and we're talking probably a population of easily 35,000 plus that live in that radius. To sum it up? It's a little small and a tad busy and in fact they could probably double the size of it and still fill it but I'll still take it over all the gyms I've dealt with over the years, easily. Not impressed. The workout room was always hot and it's expensive for what you get. The locker room was not clean and always smelled. I never felt comfortable in the locker room that always had a bunch of older guys hanging out with no clothes on talking about the good ole days. Not my type of hang-out. Would definitely not be comfortable with my kids in the locker room. read more
