Small neighborhood theater, first run movies, good ticket prices, rarely a line, reclining seats. Pretty sweet.

The seats are a little beat up, as are the bathrooms. The food selections aren't great but the popcorn is always fresh. I also don't like the seating arrangement, as the screen feels too high since there is no stadium seating. However, the staff is usually nice and helpful, and the prices are very good. read more

First time to this theatre in about 10 years and I really enjoyed it. Every seat has large tilt back seating with a lot of room to move around. They have Four movies and the price was only $7.95 which is a real bargain these days. Easy street parking and it was not crowded. read more

Truly a diamond in the rough. Great pricing, and spacious, comfy seating. There is no parking lot, but there's plenty of on-street parking. Also, it's located in the middle of a residential area. So, I wasn't expecting it when my navigation announced our arrival. I'm saving this theater to my list of favorites. My family and I will be back. read more

Awesome theater! Great place close by that you don't have to worry about large mall parking lots when you have little people with you. Prices are not terrible for admission. It's fairly clean and they hav reclining seats. Our little people loved this. Sound could be lowered a tad. Our six year old grandson was sensitive to the volume. Thankfully, it went down some when the actual movie came on. Popcorn was fabulous! Love we live close by.....the village feel of the Hollywood really works for me. A hidden treasure! read more

This theatre has definitely improved! They now have the comfiest recliner seats! You have to buy tickets in advance because they are always busy, but it's worth it. Their popcorn isn't my favorite, but I can forgive that since their seats are even better than the ones at Cinemark. I will definitely be coming here a lot! read more

How did I not know about this place?! When I heard we were going to a cheaper cinema in Arbutus I was imagining a ghetto little theater, not the huge leather RECLINED SEATS with footrests that we ended up getting! We're also looking for the lux theater experience and have gone to the Towson XD to get that, but honestly I think this was even better. Sure you didn't get the fancy overpriced bar, but the Towson fancy seats don't actually have footrests or recline to the point these seats do. But more than that - $16 vs. $8! Can't beat that! Will definitely be coming back! read more

This is a nice neighborhood movie theater. The screen isn't as big as the bigger movie theaters, but the prices are fair and the movie selections change all the time. Parking is street parking, but there is plenty available. It's in a nice selection so you can get a meal or a drink afterwards. read more

IM A FAN!! Small and quaint theatre, but that's what I like about it. The only time you know your in a small venue is when you arrive and leave. Most cheaters will consider this a "low key creep spot " but not me , I definitely don't come here to creep . I discovered this place years ago when I lived in the area, turned out to be one of my first choices to watch a new movie especially now that it's been renovated with more comfortable reclining love seats . The prices are usually a lot cheaper too , & there's never a problem with shows being (sold out ) . The concession stand is pretty basic, but I do love the option to add flavoring to your popcorn for free . Don't expect any chicken tenders or fries or any other food items here , just snacks . read more

Best movie theater EVER. I had taken the kids to see Sing during the holiday. Not only was movie excellent the theater too the entire experience up a notch. How good was it you ask. Where so I begin: First let's talk about The reclining seats and supple leather give you a level a comfort you just can't get at any other movie theater. REAL POPCORN. Let me state this again Real Popcorn. This movie theater has an actual popcorn popper. (BTW they have real butter as well.) Now the absolutely best part, it's a small theater. With only 2 movies playing at a time. Gone is the multiplex 10 plus movies playing simultaneously. The Hollywood Theater is a theater of a by gone era where movies were to been expirenced it an elegant well appointed theater. Thank you to whomever decided to keep this theater. The Hollywood is the go-to theater when I want to see middle-of-the-road mainstream junk. No competition with the Charles; in fact, I doubt they've ever played ANY of the same films. Their line-up this week, for example: the Wall Street sequel; The Town; Easy A; and that 3-D owl movie. The films are a little out-of-focus and dim sometimes, but the Hollywood is owned by a small, locally-based company (R/C Theaters, out of Reisterstown), and it's important to support your local businesses. They have the best movie theater popcorn in the Baltimore metro area by far. Sometimes I stop by to get some corn even if I'm not seeing a movie there. (The Charles runs second in this department.) read more

New to the neighborhood and decided to check out the local theatre. Dinner at Peter's and went to see Halloween. The price is much less than other theaters but still get lounge seating and popcorn! It's a nice theater, clean and spacious. read more

I love this place! I cannot tell you enough how great it was to grow up in a neighborhood that had a small movie theatre. At Hollywood (as my family refers to it), the prices are lower than those of larger theaters near by. Although the snack bar prices have risen over the past few years, they are still the best deal around! Especially if you go to $5 movie Tuesdays! Although Hollywood does not always play every new movie, they do a wonderful job trying to play the most popular, crowd-drawing movies out at that time. On Wednesday mornings in the summertime, Hollywood plays free movies for children. These movies are often those that have already come out on DVD, but it is still a fun chance for parents to take their child out to the movies for a favorite! This place is the best! On Tuesday movies are $5. The only restriction is you cannot see movies that released that week but if you wait one more week you can pay $5 for a movie! I used to think this theater was pretty cool, but then they completely changed their seats and it is absolutely awesome! The seats here are wider, comfier, and recline better than movie theaters that are $15+ per ticket. Not only do these seats recline. They also have a footrest that comes up. Plus giant armrests and plenty of space between seats so you don't need to have that silent elbow battle with your neighbor. Hollywood Arbutus is like getting first class airline seating for the cost of a bus ticket. Absolutely top notch!!! read more

Always go with my friends, don't have up to date movies as much as hoyts does. Ask for layered popcorn(if you can have butter), recommend a large popcorn and drink, keep refilling popcorn so u can divide it with friends and refill, same with Sodas. Recliner seats, clean bathrooms, a few workers are rude and have bad attitudes but for the most part they are chill. read more

This little theater is charming with the comfortable seating of the larger theaters. The only down fall is that they only have enough theaters to show a maximum of 3 movies. There is only on street and very limited paid parking behind the theater. read more

Made our first trip in a decade. We visit the movies almost every weekend and are getting fed up with AMC. The positives were that it wasn't crowded, the food had a wider variety and was much affordable than other theaters, bathrooms were clean and close to the theater, and the sound system was great. This place is awesome. Tiny, quaint and homely. The theater is on a residential street, there's a house on both sides of the theater. Power reclining seats, great place to see a movie just don't expect a huge concession stand and a super modern facility. I will be watching any movie at this theater whenever I can. read more

Ever heard the phrase "hidden gem"? The Hollywood in Arbutus is the place to go if you don't want to fight crowds and pay huge prices for your movies. They have cheaper ticket prices as is, but they have regular discount days where most movies are super cheap. The screens are a great size and the seats are nicely modern. The auditoriums and screens are not as large as most of the major googleplex theaters, but we have caught several blockbusters there and always been satisfied by the experience. There is plenty of street parking along the quaint "downtown" main street of Arbutus, so plenty of shops and restaurants to head to while you wait or when you're done. read more

There is something about this little theater that makes you feel at home. It reminds me of the movie theaters I used to go to as a kid with my parents, before the age of mega-theaters with stadium seating and a dozen screens. It's also great for practical reasons (affordable, never too crowded, reclining seats). The audio and picture quality are solid and I don't think there's a bad seat in the house. Admittedly, the food selection is basic and they don't serve alcohol, but who cares? It's a movie theater, not a bar or restaurant. I hope this local gem stays just the way it is forever. Little hidden gem of Arbutus. Small, quaint theatre great for families. Staff is always friendly, popcorn always good and fresh. Parking at times could be troublesome because it's situated across from private homes. The daughter of the owner of the hot dog stand on the corner did let us park there when I asked her about additional parking in the area, which was nice of her. Concession prices in line with big theatres but ticket prices a tad cheaper which is a plus ! Love the reclining seats. read more

I went to see Captain America: The First Avenger here (with Morgan S., who also wrote a review). The experience was going along just fine (sure, the theater doesn't have stadium seating, but I could still see the screen, and sure, I could hear the gentle whir of the projector, but, after all, I only paid $7 for my ticket), we (and about ten other people) sat through the credits, the music was swelling to a crescendo to go into the teaser trailer for The Avengers (for which, as you might gather from the subtitle, Captain America is just a glorified preview), and right then the film cut out. The audience booed, but if the projectionist heard us, he ignored us. The teenager who came to clean up the theater very politely apologized to us when we complained, but assured us that he had no power. We asked to speak to his supervisor. And that's when the experience really turned sour. Turns out, you can't speak to a supervisor, because the only supervisor of the three teenagers (who are the only employees a customer can actually, you know, talk to), is also the projectionist, and was upstairs starting all of the movies in the theater. Could the teenager go upstairs and tell the supervisor that we'd like to speak with him? No, because the teenager is, in addition to having clean all the theaters, solely responsible for taking tickets. We offered to take tickets on his behalf, but he didn't go for that. I called the theater's phone number in hopes of being connected to a human being I could talk to, but it was just a recorded message. The teenagers assured us that the supervisor would be down in just a minute. After waiting perhaps twenty minutes, the last of the other disgruntled patrons left, leaving Morgan and me as the last two. After another four minutes, the supervisor finally emerged. I did have to corner him as he tried to make a beeline into the ticket booth. He assured me that yes, he did know that there was another scene after the credits, but it was a technical problem that caused the projector to fail. (What a remarkable coincidence that it failed at just that moment.) He was not in the least apologetic about the fact that I had to wait nearly half an hour before being able to talk to a supervisor, which, at this point, was to me the larger problem. (Once the next viewing of Captain America started, even I recognized that it probably wasn't very realistic that he could start up the projector and let us watch the final scene. But why did it have to get to that point? If only we could have talked to someone earlier, he could have shown the scene to the ten of us, and everyone would have had warm fuzzies all around.) After a long argument, in which he was clearly unsympathetic to why we were annoyed, we finally asked for our money back. To be fair, he did give us our money back (although he was pretty unpleasant about it), which is why I'm giving the experience two stars instead of one. But I certainly won't darken his doorway again. The real problem here isn't that I missed the end of the movie. The real problem here is how management chose to deal with it. It was impossible for me to air a grievance: the teenagers had no power (or chose to exercise none), the supervisor did not appear for half an hour, and when he did, he failed to recognize the problem. Here's what he should have said: "I'm so sorry that you missed the end of the movie! Yes, I know that there's an extra scene at the end of Captain America, but I was just so distracted by the fact that I'm the only employee here qualified to run the projector, and I was in such a rush to start the other movies, that I forgot that this film had a teaser trailer after the credits. I'm terribly sorry. I'm also terribly sorry that it took so long for you to speak with a manager! It's really inexcusable, but we are so understaffed tonight. This is not our usual operating procedure, and I promise that if you come back another night you will have a much better experience. Please accept your money back, and I do hope that you won't hold it against us and will come see us again real soon." The final situation would have been the same: he didn't have to do any additional work rewinding the projector, and we would have gotten our $14 back. Just a little politeness and tongue-biting on his part (I hear the customer is always right), and he would not have permanently lost two customers, and inspired a flaming on Yelp. I suppose I can take consolation in the certainty that R/C Hollywood Cinema 4 is not long for this world, if it can't even hire enough employees that the manager has to run all four projectors himself. (I shall have to check the guidelines for the projectionists' unions to see if that's even legal.) read more

I really like this theater for a lot of reasons - it's most convenient to home, parking is easy, and the prices are great, considering the awesome reclining seats. I look at their movie times and consider going here at least once a week. They seem to stick to mostly kids movies, at least lately. I wish I could say I would go more if they had more "grown up" selections. Except that the staff and owners apparently don't know how to handle them, so I don't know that I would. Be warned if you decide to see an R rated movie there - though the theater has a policy on their website that anyone underage must be accompanied by an adult over 21, they don't stand by it. At a recent movie that was ruined for me by a group of boys around 11 or so, I was told by a manager that as long as an adult BUYS the tickets, that's sufficient. I then called the owner and was told the policy did not have to be followed by each independent Hollywood Cinema and that he would look into changing the website for their specific location. He hasn't. He also never sent me the ticket vouchers he indicated he would send to compensate for the movie I paid for but could barely watch. I appreciate small businesses and would prefer to patronize this theater compared to one of the bigger ones like Arundel Mills, but based on this experience, I honestly have to debate each time if going to this theater is worth it. read more

Who needs AMC, Regal, and Cinemark when you got RC Hollywood Cinema 4. This theater reminds me of the old Cineplex Odeon Theatres back from the 80's and 90's. The Popcorn is really good real movie theatre Popcorn not that cardboard stuff AMC and Regal serve and the price is just right. Overall I recommend going to this theatre. read more

OOooo THE CHAIRS!!! Or should I say the reclining love seat sofas with foot rests!!! The rest of the theater is nothing special, but the price is much lower than most theaters and the seats are second to none. You aren't going for the arcade games right? Food prices are horrible, but that's just like every other theater. They do have the flavor powder for the popcorn which is a cool touch. This is a great little movie theater. They only have 4 screens, so they can't play every movie, but all of their screening rooms (?) have really comfortable, reclining chairs similar to the Lay-Z-Boy recliners you have in your living room. Their best feature is that you can reserve your seats when you purchase your tickets at no extra cost. With this feature I never have to show up to a movie early to get a good seat! I love this place, I just wish they had more screens so more movies could play here. read more

I've been going to this theater for many years and I have to say that I love supporting a local business. It's small and has a small town feel. They've recently renovated so the seats are plush and you can get an assigned seat online. Which is super nice. Now having said that... The popcorn is just meh. And one of the two coke dispensers tastes like barf. I stopped ordering coke awhile ago bc there is something definitely off about the one spout. Maybe it needs replacement I don't know. So if you're going get something else. Three stars because if you go to an early show and there's another show after (usually the case for me bc I have small kids), they cram everyone who is waiting into the lobby like a mosh pit. Not so bad for them I guess, but it was SO LOUD out there that I couldn't hear the last bit of my movie from inside the theater (I was in the back row). And the last bit of a movie is usually the best part. Anytime someone left and/or returned into my theater, you could hear all the commotion from outside. It was distracting and annoying. My recommendation? Fix your gross fountain soda. And erect a wall with doors or a curtain on that first archway into the movies. This would be relatively inexpensive and would serve as a buffer for all that noise. If I go back, it will either be a late show or a Tuesday night, when the cheap price supersedes the nuisance of the noise. read more

I dread having to go to any other theatre. This theatre has unbeatable ticket prices. I love that this theatre is somewhat hidden so it's not usually packed. The reclining seats are extremely comfy and the rows in the theatre are very roomy, but the theatre is also usually cold so I recommend bringing a small blanket. The only downside is they only usually show around 4 different movies at a time since it is a small location. read more
