I know most of us aren't huge fans of dentists, but for reasons unknown there seems to be a plethora of bad ones in the area. This practice charges more for its services than any other dentist in the area. Perhaps it wouldn't be as bad if the office staff weren't the snootiest group of people I've ever run across in this type of setting. If you question a charge you may have asked them to sacrifice their first-born child. But unfortunately it's not just the staff but also the dentist himself. I realize these guys make huge sums of money and for some reason feel we all do as well. Dentists and doctors (MD) couldn't be further apart in how they view patients and their care. I think it's best that we as patients never forget that. Fortunately this dentist is retiring soon but you know the same thing will take his place. read more

I've had treatment from Dr. Kitasoe several years back, and while cavity fillings were painless & done well, cleaning sessions were quite unpleasant. There was a blonde female hygienist who would be quite rough & cause frequent bleeding each time she flossed & scraped against my gums. My mother had a somewhat different experience. Her hygienist, called Nan, was quite gentle (even though she admits herself that her teeth are hard to clean & in poor shape). However, after she turned down one of the treatment plans, the subsequent cleaning was quite painful. read more

I've been a patient of Dr Kitasoe for 25 years. I lived in the Bay Area and he was my FT dentist for over five years and loved him. I moved to the Central Coast and never found a better dentist. I have traveled to have all of my major procedures (crowns) with Dr K and it's worth it. Dr. Kitasoe is great as a dentist and is very thorough in explaining why and what he's doing to you. He always checks to make sure you're doing okay. He has to be one of the best when it comes preventive care, especially with night grinding and clenching. I use a mouthguard and it has helped tremendously. The office staff is great also. They are not only very professional; but friendly, helpful and they have a great sense of humor! I always feel welcome and very comfortable while I'm there. I definitely get boutique dentistry without having to be a celebrity!!! I was referred by a trusted friend to Dr. Kitasoe. From the time I walked in the door, everything was "wow". The dental assistant, Karen, greeted me by my first name like she was expecting me and had a gift ready for me. There was no, "sign your name on the clipboard and take a seat." Karen offered me complementary items from beverage area. I waited maybe 10 minutes (I filled out new patient paperwork) before someone came to get me. Reina, gave me a tour of the entire front and back office. The practice was busy too. I got to meet with Dr. Kitasoe about my personal health/dental goals - he listened and he made recommendations throughout my visit, we have a plan. The exam was the most gentle I have had in years and Dr. K has great bed side manner. His wife did my cleaning which was the best I've had - technique was excellent, no pain or discomfort. This is definitely a small practice that is not outdated. The small touches make a world of a difference - blankets to keep you warm while you get dental chair, tv's to keep you entertained, the restroom is well stocked with toothbrushes, floss, mouthwash. Everything was clean, even Dr. K's desk. Everyone provided excellent customer service, you almost want to stay and be part of their family - they have fun and have been together for a long time. Everyone was genuinely concerned about me. There was also a lot more gifts - toothbrush, tongue scrapper, floss, etc. The level of education I received was great...if you listen and take it to heart, Dr. K and your teeth can be besties!! Between appointments you get the option of phone call, text message or e-mail reminders. I like the option of all three. I've also had some dental work done since my initial visit and I can say that Dr. K loves what he does and has perfected his technique. I experienced no pain or discomfort during my procedure, even with the needle and drills. Dr. K and his team always checked in along the way, so if there was ever any problems, they would have quickly addressed them. Dr. K understands 99.9% of what you say with your mouth hinged open. It was pretty cool to carry on a conversation with him. I always leave with a bigger and brighter smile. Highly recommend this practice!!! read more

I usually am not a frequent Yelp reviewer, but in the cases where I feel one justifies it, I will take the time to write one. this place is a SCAM, beware! I was looking for a new dentist (just moved to Menlo Park) and I called for an appointment to really just get a cleaning, as I do every 6 months. When I got to the dental office, it was small and completely empty so I was the only patient there. Chatted with the dentist so he can get any relevant history or background in his office first before getting into the dental chair. I'm not sure what kind of operation this place runs but it took 2.5 hours before I was able to leave and not only did I NOT get the cleaning I wanted, I was asked to come back for a 2nd appointment to get a cleaning. Soooo, you might ask what and how could I possibly have been stuck there for 2.5 hours for?? All the guy did was talk and talk and talk, and then he pulled out a toothbrush and floss to show me how proper flossing and brushing is done. He said I had immaculately clean teeth but yet went through that unnecessary ordeal?? Then his assistant took x-rays of my teeth...this was another ridiculous event in itself. The assistant literally took X-rays of every single tooth, no joking she took at least 25 instances! And some were with an SLR camera! Then before even telling me what they were doing, she had me open my mouth wide and clamp down on this disgusting goo which turned out they were taking a mold of my teeth. I have NEVER EVER had any other dentist take a mold of my teeth other than my orthodontist when I got braces as a teenager. Really strange practices here in this office! Then the bill came.....I have have excellent insurance and excellent teeth and have never had to pay anything out of pocket. Not only did I waste 2.5 hours of my working day, I never got the teeth cleaning that I wanted, and am now out $100 for a bill that insurance didn't fully pay which was the mold of my teeth because it was deemed not necessary or preventative, which I completely agree with! I called to ask why a mold of my teeth was even needed and it was explained to me that they were required BY LAW to do so. When I questioned that I don't believe that to be true, they went further to say that they would be breaking the state law and would get in big trouble with the state. Soooo, I asked you're telling me that all of the dozens and dozens of dentists that I have ever been to in my entire life are all breaking the law because none of them engaged in this practice?? They changed their story and said that their insurance company required it.....come on!! Bottom line, this practice performs unnecessary services and make you come back for multiple visits so they can scam people for more money. Shame on you Mister Kitasoe, shame on you indeed. read more

I have been a patient at the clinic of Dr. R. Glenn Kitasoe since 1980 when I began working at S.L.A.C. Ummm, that would be 35 years. I am retired now and though I live in San Jose I happily continue to attend the office of Dr. Kitasoe. Over the years I have recommended the office to persons visiting work who did not know a local dentist. All have reported happiness with the result. In those 35 years the clinic staff has, of course, changed. The change in staff though seems almost glacial compared to modern business practice. I know that when I visit for a cleaning, or saints forbid something more serious, that I will be greeted by a group of professionals and friends. The staff are clearly friends with one another which might/must help to explain the low turnover. Dr. Kitasoe himself is a grand dentist, indeed a grand man. He takes time to listen to the concerns and problems of the patient. He is reassuring as he tests the possible causes of aches, problems or pains. The doctor is always willing to dispense best practices. In my case he has given up; hey 35 years is a long time to flog an unresponsive bounder like me.... For DECADES, I resisted going to the dentist because most of them beat me up: I brushed my teeth too hard, I did not brush the right way, and in any case I was destined for dentures by 40. My former dentist couldn't get my mouth numb to install my very first crown and said I needed a root canal in order to proceed. NOT! Dr. Kitasoe saved the day. Found Dr. Kitasoe through the best source - word of mouth. He was recommended by a trusted friend. He is thorough and thoughtful. Felt absolutely NO pain during my visits to his office. Have also gotten a custom fitted mouth piece affectionally referred to as the 'appliance' which I wear at night to mitigate tooth damage due to teeth grinding. Dentist visits are typically not the type of activity one looks forward to. My name is Martin Schultz, and I am posting this through my girlfriend's Yelp account. I thought Dr KItasoe was a good Dentist, that is until I saw another dentist. Dr KItasoes partner, I think his name is Dr Michaels did a root canal on me quite some time ago and on the next visit to Dr Kitasoe I told him of some pain in the area of the tooth he had worked on. He rubbed the gum and told me not to worry, that everything was alright. So here we are, ten years later, twenty trips to Dr Kitasoe for cleanings and exams, and the tooth still hurts, turns out it is because the root canal was botched and there is an infection there that has been building up and draining for OVER TEN YEARS!!!!!!!!!! I told him about it and he did nothing!!!!!!!!!! Several times!!!! Now I am set to get the tooth pulled to the tune of $5000.00. Now how is it that my new dentist saw on my first visit, when I never even told her of the pain? Kitasoe had ten years of visits and I told him about it repeatedly that he NEVER SAW IT, NEVER DID ANYTHING ABOUT IT!!!!!!! Guess he was just thinking of his golf game, much more important to him than his patients well being. read more

I was recommended to see Dr. Kitasoe. Even though he is a very thorough dentist, but he charged a lot. He recommended me to do a crown in the back molar(which I don't think I even needed) charged me $760+, then he recommended me to buy teeth guard to protect my night grinding habit that is $800 plus. After few visits, he did 10 filling for my kids teeth, that is another $1200. Only few visits, between me and my kids, he charged me almost $3000 dollars. $600 for a filling. I think it is a rip off. If you see him, you have better loaded. read more

I called Dr. K (who both my husband and I see) to see what my options were- and the office suggested bringing the kids in. The kids LOVED seeing Dr. K. A wonderful experience!
