A beautiful one-of-a-kind place on earth. It's like going back to the old days with all the conveniences of today's world. The town is surrounded by mountains and trees. There is lots of wildlife and friendly people. This is definitely my favorite place to visit and since I am an owner, I can visit 182 days a year. I loved to walk around the lake, ride one of our 25 horses, hang out with my Ranch friends and family at my RV or the Double "R" Restaurant & Saloon. The bands are great. I wish I could sing because they have a state-of-the-art Karaoke system that gets everyone up and dancing. The lake is full of fish, the birds are singing, and the bullfrogs are croaking. This place is a gem. Abandoned town turned into camp style cabin and outdoor retreat...There's a lake with runoff from the kern river, archery and shooting ranges, horses, pool and hot tub, a lake with fish.... and different buildings containing a salon and dining hall, adults only building with TV and billiards, and a kids clubhouse w lots of classic video games and billiard and ping ping tables. Cabins are definitely more rustic but I loved it. read more

I LOVE this place! Ever dreamt of a family summer camp like Kellerman's or Steiner's? If you've ever seen Dirty Dancing or the Marvelous Mrs. Maisel, you know what I'm talking about... A family summer camp experience with canoes and a lake, horses and giant Sequoias. Somewhere to return to year after year and immediately unwind. A place to make memories year after year... Where the kids run free, fish, play bingo, dance, swim, play tennis, play basketball, mountain bike, hunt, horseback ride, do crafts, explore nature, build forts, follow creeks, play without electronics, and feel at home. Where impromptu concerts happen in the dance hall and the general store always has you covered. R-Ranch is it! It's idyllic, safe, off-grid, and welcoming. Another fun and relaxing trip to the Ranch with my family. They' are about to open the Restraunt and Saloon across from the R-Ranch store after being closed for years. Feels like 1990 again. After 32 years of visiting the Ranch my family finally rode the horses. My daughter Nephew and Sister had a wonderful trail ride. My daughter loved riding Misty the spotted white horse. Shout out to Steve and his crew at the stables for taking care of owners and their guests as well as the beautiful R-Ranch horses. If you ride make sure you are at the stables 30 minutes prior to the start of your trail ride. Steve don't play when it comes to starting the trail ride on time. Been here twice, once as a guest and second time as an owner. It's a perfect place for my family to enjoy time away from the city. I love the view, and all the things available to do at the ranch. We went horseback riding, hiking, played in the teen room with my kids. The WiFi in the adult room was nice to do a quick check on texts, and emails. We've been R Ranch owners for over 16 years. It is the best investment for our family that we ever made. Great family environment, safe, secure, peaceful, serene, with LOTS TO DO. There are many hikes and excursions close to the ranch. We have had family reunions there with 25 people coming to spend the week. GREAT MEMORIES are made. The Ranch employees are helpful and protective of the facility. Your kids can ride bikes, hike and swim in the pool throughout the day. Its a great vacation at a very reasonable price. AND if you like to fish the Kern River is only 15 minutes away. There's excellent Catch and Release Fishing as well as bait and lure trout fishing. The General Store has most everything that you'd need should you forget any items when packing for your time there. We generally make it up 2 to 4 times per year for long weekends. The winters are awesome too as you can reserve a cabin when storms are coming in and enjoy the serenity of falling snow and everything that goes with playing in the snow with your kids and family and friends. For long weekends there is nothing like it. Cell phones do not work here and internet access is limited and slow and ONLY at the Adult Center. So don't expect to do much of your business from R Ranch. But then again that is why its so incredible. When you arrive at R Ranch you get to relax, unwind and enjoy God's creation with not interruptions. I highly recommend R Ranch to anyone considering purchasing a share. Love R-Ranch. You need to be an Owner to stay. Parents bought in back in the 90's and since my sister and my family have become owners. Nothing like being able to get away to the mountains for an affordable yearly cost when ever you want with a cabin ready to go. No cellular service, but there is satellite fed Wifi at the adult building if you must get minor things done, but you come here to get away from it all so unplug and enjoy it. Showers could have better heads and would be nice if they were larger but it is what it is. Pool heated during Spring and Summer and it is a great family get away with plenty to do. read more

I love this place. We've been coming here for more than 20 years, though not as often lately as we used to. So much to do or so peaceful to do nothing at all. The staff is very friendly and helpful and the scenery is beautiful. Truly God's country. No cell coverage and no wifi (except in the adult building). Unplug and unwind. read more

It's a total waste of money. My daughter and I bought in in 1990. We were tenants in common with right of survivorship. She is on the deed! They were happy to take her money, and her 1/2 the yearly dues each December, but they will not allow her to use the ranch unless I am present, or if I designate her as "designated owner" I can't use it unless she is present! That' NUTS. if a husband and wife own he can come up without his wife or she can come up without her husband. You have to get 5 people to want to use the jacuzzi before they will turn the heat on. The cabins are full of other people's crappy unwanted furniture. It is illegal to feed the wildlife... this would include ducks so they are breaking the law when they encourage you to feed the ducks and geese by selling pellets in R-Store. read more

Surrounding scenery: 5 stars. Bang for your buck: 5 stars. Downside: You don't get to pick the cabin you want. Even if you invest money to renovate a certain cabin, whenever you go back you might not even get the cabin you put the money into! What the hell is that about? Doesn't seem fair at all. This is important to note because a LOT of cabins need updating. A lot. They're okay to stay in, but could definitely use a few... updates. The wifi, last time we went, had a cap on it. You can only get it in the adult centre, which is understandable. You're out there to see nature, I understand. I love that. I embrace that. But when you work a job where there's a deadline that OTHER people fell behind on and you need to be able to access your email and then you can't because the wifi cap was reached?? Frustrating. It was also a really low cap, and you have to wait for midnight for it to reset. They shouldn't have a cap on the wifi. It's 2015, for crying out loud. It should also maybe be offered in the general store as well, or at the community center. I think it's okay that it isn't available in the cabins, but the main points should offer wifi so if you're stopping in or in the middle of bingo, you don't have to leave if you absolutely need to speak to somebody. Because there is zero cell service here. Deer will eat out of your hands. Raccoons will follow you for scraps. You will go on hikes that make you feel invincible. If this place made just a few, small adjustments it would be 100% worthy of five stars. read more

I have no interest in staying here, but trolling around or camping in this area of the Sequoias, the store is a Godsend. BTW - for those who know - They have It's-It's here. I can't even get those in LA. I think their distribution stops at the Grapevine. So, I ate two while I had the chance. read more

I have to say I'm a bit shocked at the condition of this place..it's a great place and beautiful but in a very bad state of disrepair..I'd be pissed if I was an owner...the cabins are falling apart...the restaurant is closed and the RV Park looks like an old abandoned ghost town...if they don't start putting some money into this place I'd guess it's history in 5 years or less...very sad because there is tons of potential. read more

We have been owners of R Ranch since 1992. It has been the best investment we made. Although I can travel around the world on vacation R Ranch offers a peace and tranquility that cannot be found anywhere on this continent. My conclusion is that the 5 hour drive from home and the simplicity of the Ranch is the perfect equation. Others should not offer bad comment unless they are owners. Perhaps they wanted to drive around on the Ranch and got upset when Security told them it was not allowed. read more

You have to be a legitimate owner to rate or critique R-ranch. It is a heaven sent, especially when you need to get away from the crazy city life. Stables, olympic size pool, tennis/volleyball/basketball courts, shooting range, archery, crafts, bands, nature etc. Again, you have to be an owner or stayed a few days as a guest to really share your opinion. read more

We're new owners. Couldn't believe what a great deal this was! Yes, you have your initial investment as cheap as it gets, and yes, the dues are $950 a year. The old man with mustache Security guard has an attitude and harasses the patrons. While visiting the general store, we overheard a couple about deciding to complain about something to the front office. Looks like we will never visit or stay at this campground ever. The place looks dull and no fun. What a bad visit . They also require dogs to be kept inside the vehicle at all times! How lame!! read more

My family and I have been owners at R-Ranch since early 1992. We have made a lot of memories and have had a lot of fun over the last 23 years. The area is absolutely stunning with a lot of things to do visit and experience. We always a good time for the most part. Over the last few years however the management of the ranch as been horrible. The security guard have became bullies with badges with little respect for their employers ( the owners). It seems that every time we go or even call now the office or the rec room is closed or understaffed. The amenities have dwindled with the association fees about doubled. It seems that the staff and their families run the place and don't appreciate that they are there because of the owners not the other way around. And don't file a complaint because it will cost you a fine because it is rude. Go for the nature and good time with the fellow owners read more
