I've lived in Phx for 2 years and have 3 haircuts and really wasn't thrilled but Avery did awesome & was so personable, I have found my new stylist! I also really liked the salon decor. I'm so a creature of habit, been going to the same hairstylist for 10 years. Since I've moved, it became apparent that I should search for a new Salon located closer to me. Went on yelp, searched the top 10 and read everything about each and chose R Salon. Within R Salon's web page, each stylist has there photo and a Bio. I read through everyone of them and chose Niza. I made an appointment, he responded fairly fast and we had a phone consultation to make sure we were a good fit... seeing I was a new client. Morning of appointment I arrived on time. The Salon is very big, atmosphere very raw loft like, everyone wearing mask, customers wearing mask, everything spread out to allow social distancing. All employees seem very nice, greeting me while I waited and offering something to drink. Niza was finishing up a client after which he sprayed and wiped down his station clean. We discussed my hair and he suggested some different ways to approach what I wanted, newer to me, more natural... so we went with the root touch-up and a Balayage. He was very was very detailed in his technique while being very personable. My hair came out AMAZING. (I forgot to take a photo, will take one next time). First time coming here. I bought a Groupon for me & my aunt. I bought the one for a haircut & partial highlights. For my aunt I got the haircut with deep conditioning & style. I called to make an appointment & there's only specific people(hairstylist) that take groupons. I made an appointment for my sister too. I was gonna get her a Groupon too but they said they can honor the price so they can get some of the proceeds. Also my sister donated her hair for cancer patients. All of our hair got done really nice. Really liked it. I had Alex and she helped me choose want I wanted. They had to bleach my hair to get a caramel color then after it was really blonde but she used a toner and it looked really good. For toner is $15 extra. The salon is really big. We parked in the back but they let us thru. They had water and snacks. They also do nails & massages. read more

If I could give R Salon 5 stars I totally would but if I did that, then I'm not doing justice to Yelp or honoring its users commitment to honest reviews. That said, I was paired up with Jamie. Jamie has been doing hair for about 3 years and I have to say, he's pretty darn good at what he does. He fixed my brassy color and toned it in a way which came out beautifully. It's a pleasure getting to know him and I'm happy I found him! I will totally be a repeat customer of his and would highly recommend him. I watched Natalie do hair next to me, she was also super skilled!! So this means they have talent!!! The BAD: this salon is old, it's dated and it it's one of the dirtiest places I've been. They need a serious facelift in terms of a deep clean, maybe light grey paint on the walls to brighten the place up! The staff cubicles are riddled with junk, the guest chairs are gross and need to be sanitized with Lysol. I honestly couldn't bring myself to take pix of the salon without embarrassing them tremendously. I hate to have to write a review like this but feel constructive criticism can promote change. They have what it takes, their staff is nice, the place is trendy but just take some pride in your shop, clean the dust, declutter the stations and brighten up. Less dungeon, more sunshine. Yesterday I was at the R Salon, for the first time, I had my hair done by Christine, she is a terrific stylist, absolutely amazing, her talent and skills are FABULOUS!!! Christine is a true master craft, her expertise for hair care is in every aspect, she took the time to listen to my hair concerns and desires, offering advice and recommendation to my specifics needs, my hair felt like it had undergone transformation, leaving me feeling confident and radiant. I've visited the salon twice and have been less than impressed both times. Niza isn't a bad hairstylist, but the customer service from R Salon is definitely lacking. First visit: I purchased a break up package, had a deep conditioning and haircut, but then scheduling the massage and facial was not working out. I'd schedule and then receive a call the day before saying the masseuse was not going to be there. I'd reschedule and the same thing would happen the next time. Eventually I received money back for the services I didn't use. Second visit: I called to schedule a haircut and deep conditioning and was told the haircut would be $65 and the deep conditioning would be about $10. I went in for the service, and at the end was charged $110. WOAH! What happened to the $75 service?! I called when I got home after the shock wore off and was called back the next day - since Niza is an independent contractor, there isn't much they can do. So...you could say there is a disconnect between the schedulers, money takers, and the actual people that do the work. The assistants at the front need more of a handle on what people's schedules are and what they are charging so they don't misquote to clients. I'll be checking out a different salon the next time and I would suggest you do the same. read more

RICK!! RICK!! HOORAY!! So...I am a client of Rick. I hadn't been to see him in a while, some tragic life events took me back home to Oklahoma for a bit. While I was there...I colored my hair, all by myself. It was so bad. My husband went and got another box color and he tried to fix it. It was so bad, and I was so ashamed. I called up the R Salon and saw Rick. He is nothing short of a miracle worker. Not only did he fix my hair, he fixed my self image. Lesson learned. I'm Rick we trust!! I don't usually write reviews, but I've had such wonderful experiences with Ron Baron at r Salon! I was looking for a new stylist last year, and was impressed by Ron's prior experiences, including teaching color to students (here's the profile I read: http://rsalonphx.com/project/ron-baron/). I've been going to see him for over a year now and have been so happy - Ron is exceptionally skilled, listens to exactly what I'm looking for and is a perfectionist- the result is that my hair looks amazing! I'm pretty picky with my hair, and require that my color looks natural as it grows out (I get busy and don't come in as much as I should)...I'm not sure how Ron does it, but my hair looks great even when I'm ignoring it. I visited the salon and saw Ron on Saturday. I am on the hunt for a new stylist and thought that working with a professional with longevity in the field was a good place to start. Ron is a kind and interesting man. He put on a good show for me but my cut is a mess. He used a technique he developed called "sculpting" based off the artistic process Michelangelo used to create David. Michelangelo, according to Ron, listened to the marble and David emerged. He did the same thing with my hair essentially. I went with it in the moment because it seemed like he had a workable technique and he talked a good talk. I was fine with the spontaneous nature if the experience and trusted him because his bio and narrative gave me a reason to. After going home and being with my hair I realized he botched it. There is absolutely no uniformity to any part of the cut. There are hairs in the top of my head that are so short they stick straight up. I can't pull my hair back as I'd like because there are random short hairs all over. When I shared my dissatisfaction and requested a refund his response was that of someone who has no professional boundaries. It turned into him trying to convince me to come back after I told him I did not trust him to take scissors to my head. He used language that indicated his work and relationships with clients is where he sources his self worth. Instead of meeting me where I specified, refund my purchase because I paid for a service that I did not get, I felt I had to validate his emotions and soothe his ego. I have a background in behavioral health and I picked up on a number of red flags in the text exchange. In retrospect, the whole interaction was questionable. I am displeased with the service and will not be going back. Still want my $100 back so I can pay someone else to fix this awful mess, but I explained to Ron it was his choice. He has chosen not to refund my money. read more

Don't ask for Shannel Mariano to cut your hair, unless you like short hair cuts. I use to have super long pretty hair,she was suppose to do layers and she butchered all my hair, when I put my hair all to the back it looks like I got in a fight with a shredder. I can't even do anything to fix my hair everything is so badly uneven with super short pieces all I can do is keep trimming it to get it even , with that it leaves my hair shorter and shorter. I know it's just hair and it will grow back but honestly it's more than just hair it was what gave me confidence and she killed it. Trying to reply on the owners comment : I have been to your salon that's because my profile is under my nickname and of course you can't find me , second of all it's not false information on how I feel about my hair cut that I got. Just because she has so many insta followers doesn't me anything. Joey is amazing! He did the most beautiful blond in my hair. It looks absolutely perfect, and it's exactly what I asked for. My hair is very fine, and fragile. He did a great job taking care of it, and it feels healthier than it ever has. If that wasn't enough, Joey is also one of the nicest people I have ever met! I'm honored to have him do my hair. I purchased a Groupon for a cut and highlight and made an appointment with Roger since he had amazing reviews on Yelp. They were not wrong. Roger is incredible. From the get go, he was warm, friendly and conveyed his expertise with honest advice while listening to what I wanted. I've always wanted to dye my hair a dark red but was always told I could never achieve that color without bleaching and destroying my dry hair. Roger proved ALL of them wrong. He achieved an amazing red without a drop of bleach. He is truly an amazing colorist/stylist. My whole experience was incredible. I loved the color, I loved the cut and have never been happier (nor have I gotten so many compliments). Since we colored all my hair instead of highlights, I paid more than my groupon, but I will definitely be back to see him. He's worth every penny. R Salon has been my go-to for a year now, and they have never disappointed. I always go to Lisa, and I'm updating my review to share another story of not a hair horror story, but a hair glory story. I came in and asked my stylist, Lisa, for a lob, (a long bob). I tried to explain that my hair had grown out from my short edgy cut from last year and now it needed to be shaped. I felt as if I was speaking gibberish, but she knew exactly what I was talking about, and she even suggested going long in the front and short in the back. I can't share enough of my enthusiasm for what she did for my hair! I've already received so many compliments, and am so happy with it! I unfortunately can't use a Groupon because I'm a return customer, but for anyone on the fence about it, I definitely think it's worth the investment! read more

I moved to Phoenix almost a year ago and this was my first haircut ever since. I found a Groupon for R Salon, among many other salons in Phoenix, but ultimately chose this place because of the superb reviews all around. I was right to do so! I had a great first experience here. I just got a cut, about 11 inches off my long locks of hair, so it was definitely no simple cut. My hairstylist was more on the introverted side, but I didn't mind the silence because it was an early Saturday morning and I think she sensed that I was not much of a morning person that day. My experience from the receptionist, to my stylist, and to paying at the end were all great. Only thing I stumbled on is finding the CORRECT front entrance. My GPS took me to a back entrance. Such a great experience at R Salon this morning! I'm 66 years old and my husband is 81. We have been very careful to do what we can to avoid getting COVID. Today was the big day when, after a year of quarantining, my vaccinations were fully effective and I got to go in for a haircut. Two points I want to make. 1. Rick is an incredible hair stylist. The last haircut I had was February 13, 2020. Today is March 13, 2021. I've always thought that the sign of a great hair stylist is one who gives me a haircut that lasts. Rick is one of the very few stylists in my life who meets this high standard. I made his last haircut work for 13 months! And I actually looked decent these past few months. I called to schedule haircut with someone with experience. Receptionist said he recommend someone with 30 years experience. I thought I was in good hands...I just wanted a basic layering haircut. Wow.. its probably one of the worst haircuts I have ever received. I don't want to mention the name of the hairdresser but my hair was so choppy. I would pick up a section of my hair and there would be huge visible difference in lengths. It almost brought me to tears. I am not sure why all the great reviews but I hate my haircut! read more

I visited this salon after I went to the Paul Mitchell's school and had my color messed up. It looked Platinum on the ends and orange on top. I showed my stylist Margi at R salon what I wanted which was Platinum blonde (which I was already pretty close to excluding my roots) with some dark low lights. She informed me that in order to cover the orange on top she had to do a root shadow or something like that with a darker color. I trusted her because she seemed to know what she was talking about. Well end result my hair is a very dark gray/brown. And it looks like I have about 5 different colors in there. See pictures. The one on the left is what I asked for the one on right is what I ended up with. The far right one is close to what I started with except my roots were slightly brassier and had an orange tint. read more

I had an appointment with Niza for a balayage and trim. I highly recommend R Salon and Niza. The salon was very clean. Niza is AMAZING! He did an awesome job coloring my hair. It's obvious that he has a passion for this and he's got a great eye for what looks good and on who (depending on your face shape). He also understood that I'm a bit on the lazy side when it comes to my hair, so he styled it based on what I told him my routine was and how often (or I should say of not often) I go to the salon. He also gave me some great tips on how to style it different with minimal effort. I also really enjoyed my appointment with Niza because he's a great conversationalist. Go see Niza! read more

I loved my haircut with Jonathan and I will happily go back to see him. However, I received a facial from Claudine Frommholz and I woke up the next day with my face infected. It looked like I had been smacked in the face by a giant, big red splotches across my left cheek that were hot to the touch. I contacted her immediately and she was kind enough to stop by my school to check it. She brought some product and said it looked dry. I explained I believed it was an infection. As it got worse (pain behind my ears and down my throat), I went to urgent care the next day. I had cellulitis and had to be put on antibiotics. It has been almost two weeks and I needed a second round of antibiotics and more medical care. I have spent almost $1000. I have tried to contact Claudine again in the last two weeks but she has ghosted me. I tried contacting the owner of the salon, but the number was disconnected. read more

Good thing there were plenty of snacks and drinks nearby the reception counter. I was starving since I skipped lunch. This was my first visit with Amy. I knew I was going to have an awesome experience just by her welcoming cheerful smile. She gave me great suggestions of mixing different colors for the highlight to blend in with my dark black hair. During the conditioning and drying process, she constantly checked on me. Superb customer service! She even offered me the same Groupon price if I come back to see her next time. During my daily ritual of scouring groupon now deals, I noticed R Salon was offering a $12 men's cut and I just happened to be in the market for a trim. Best yet, they're only a couple miles from my place in CenPho. I've never noticed this place before and legitimately so, they're hidden away behind the Bank Of America on Camelback and 20th street. After arriving the receptionist had mentioned they would give me the groupon price of $12, that I don't have to pay for the groupon to get it, unfortunately I had already purchased. Sorry about that, I know groupon gets their "cut" off the top which shrinks that $12 down some. I'll know better next time. You get an A for effort for trying to bribe me with ice cold lemonade, but maybe next time you can use something other than country time. Again, nice effort with offering my wife a coffee while we waited; unfortunately, it was cold. I guess you don't claim to be a coffee shop, so I didn't really expect these frills to begin with. I did also see some boxed wine; which, I imagine is available for customer's also. Again, I commend you for the effort, but if you're going to do something, at least make a concerted effort on providing better quality frills. I think I would have preferred iced water with slices of lemon and lime for flavoring, and hot coffee instead of cold. If you weren't going to heat it up, you could have at least put it over ice and called it an iced coffee ;) I digress, I wasn't here to try out there barrista services anyway, so back to the main event. The salon is different than what I expected. I guess I'm just used to the single room 10 chair setup you see at most places. There seemed to be 3 or 4 different rooms with chairs and stations for nails, hair drying, massages, and probably everything you might want from a salon. Which is sort of cool if that's what you're looking for; I imagine this is what most women want when they're looking to be pampered. I thought it was pretty cool and unique that all the stations were outfitted with metallic diamond plating and a Craftsman Rolling toolbox for their equipment storage (scissors, combs, brushes, etc.). They also have this cool vacuum installed into the wall where they swept the discarded hair into a corner of the room, stepped on a switch which ran the vacuum for a few seconds to collect the clippings. The stations and vacuum are definitely things I've never seen before.The floors and surrounding areas were all seemingly kept clean, which is more than I can say for other places; which I don't plan on returning to. Rene came and found me after waiting for about 20 minutes, we walked back to his station and briefly spoke about what I was looking for. Pretty basic - a 3 razor on the sides and the back and the top trimmed short and blended in with the sides. Rene spent about 20 - 30 minutes chopping and cutting and I left with one of the better hair cuts I've had from a lot of the shops in the area. Over all I was happy with the cut I came in for but a bit disappointing with the unexpected frills. Again, not my original intention, but I do feel if you're going to do something, you might as well try to do it right. While the cut normally runs $25 I was out for $15 including the $12 groupon and tip. I'd like to say I will come back, but I'm just too dang thrifty to enjoy spending $25 + tip once every 6 or so weeks for a haircut. I'll likely return if I can catch you on another groupon deal though. read more

I also got a groupon for a massage. The reason I am giving a low rating is that the guy massaged my butt a lot and it made me super uncomfortable. They also used so much massage oil that it got all over my clothes. I'm not sure if it's a normal thing to massage your behind but he didn't even ask me! read more
