I made a random same day appt with Michelle McKee. uhm, I LOVE HER. I was a little worried as I had no background on her, BUT it was a match made in heaven. We bonded quickly, and after showing her a couple of photos of a hair style I liked, she was able to adapt the cut for my hair, listened to what I liked and didn't like, and showed me how to style my hair to get the texture I wanted in less than 5 minutes (what can I say, I like to sleep in). I did what Megan S. recommended, and asked for the Groupon price, which they honored. At any rate, I will be going back to Michelle for all of my future haircuts and bang trims! I highly recommend the wonderful Roger Montoya. Because of him, I finally love my hair color! He figured out how to preserve the lighter blonde on my ends that I like but blend my dirty blonde/brown root color into it (while coloring over my grays), which is all a fairly challenging project. My hair looks natural now as it grows out so I'm able to go months between appointments when I need to without feeling ridiculous. I now get compliments on my hair color from random strangers. Not only does Roger do a great job on color, but he is always friendly and very fun to talk to (Yet doesn't pressure to chat if I'm just feeling quiet). I live about an hour away but happily make the journey to see him. Roger always goes out of his way to accommodate my schedule and make it work. I went in with a brassy light blonde color and tried everything as far as purple shampoos and other treatments. This is a fun salon, where my previous hair stylist once worked, and I now I go for pedicures with Jennifer. The salon is near 20th St and Camelback, which can kind of be a pain to access during busy times. Parking is covered - yay! My former hairstylist no longer works there, but she was amazing (she is no longer a hair stylist, hence former). Currently, I have been at R Salon now twice for amazing pedicures with Jennifer. I originally had purchased a Living Social deal for $24 for a pedi. I picked out dark blue with silver sparkles. My toenails looked fresh for over four weeks. Yes, there was growth, but the remaining nail was so well painted, people still were complimenting my "cool" toes six weeks later. I had another pedi there recently with pink toenails. Went to the salon for color and trim. This was my first visit but the place was recommended to me. They also have a Yelp voucher deal so I couldn't pass it up! I really liked my stylist, Janelle. She gave me great tips and her confidence and knowledge made me feel at ease with the darker color I was going in for. She did an amazing job and she's super friendly! I had a great time there and everyone was very nice. I usually feel the time passing by at salons when I go in for a color; but this visit, I definitely did not. It's already hard enough to get an appointment with her and booked in advance prior to an upcoming trip. Just received a call from receptionist asking me to change my date and asked what service I actually need to get done, makes a customer feel unimportant when you book and they don't even know what for (which either they didn't make note or just forgot). Stated that hairstylist was unavailable due to multiple reasons and asked either I can come in an even later date after my event that I need to attend or she wanted to pawn me off to someone else, and when nothing worked I told the receptionist to cancel and unable to reschedule. I LOVE r salon!! I can't say enough great things about this place. It's in a hot spot and very convenient area in uptown Phoenix. Roger has been doing my hair for the past 4 + years and I still maintain a loyal relationship even after moving out of the Scottsdale/Arcadia area. I used to be very flexible/low maintenance with my hair and just let anyone play with it, but there was never that special touch I saw out of those stylists that illustrated a wow factor. One of the many reasons I love Roger, is that he has a particular science in the way he does hair and you can tell that he loves and knows exactly what he is doing. I always heard great things about this salon, so I figured I would give it a try. I made an appointment with Niza to have my hair colored. Within minutes, I realized how incredibly overbooked he was. The woman at the front desk kept laughing every time another client would come in to see him & made comments like, "good luck" or "should I start telling them to come in later?" and I guess he thought he could handle it. His assistant ended up coloring about 75% of my hair and did a TERRIFIC job. Niza did the other 25%... and that's where the problem was. Niza, the guy who I was actually spending a lot of money for, was so rushed and missed a ton of spots in my hair. A few days later at an out of town wedding, people kept asking why I had all these uncolored spots in my hair. It was equally embarrassing and frustrating because I paid quite a bit of money for this service. I called R Salon to try to get a refund, but they wouldn't. I then called Niza to try to get a refund, and all he offered me was another free color with him.... which doesn't quite make sense to me. I'm not sure why I would want to go back to the hairdresser that couldn't even color my hair correctly. Idk... I feel bad writing a complaint... but it really was awful. Went here 2 separate times in the last 2 days one for a cut and the other for color. The hair cut was done as a walk in by Joey and I love it! He left it at the length I wanted and kept my thin/fine hair from looking even finer. For the color I made an appointment with the stylist I most favored for their balayage work on r salons Instagram and that was Victoria and she did amazing. I havent loved or felt confident about my hair in a really long time and the work both of them did just makes me so ecstatic. I will definitely be back when I need a touch up read more

I have been here a total of 3 times now and have only had 1 stylist (Alejandra) whom I love! The first time I came in I was looking to chop all of my hair off and go totally different and she obliged! The color she does is fantastic and I love the way she gives me both highlights and low lights so when my hair grows back in it is not as noticeable and I can space out my visits less often since I can't afford to go as much as I should. Why God, WHY, did you not bless me with Roger Montoya sooner??!?! Ugh. Better late than never, right?! As anyone who reads my reviews knows, I basically have found all of my Yelp reviewed businesses off of Groupon, my go to for all things. That being said, hair cuts weren't one of them. Until now. I have been going to the same girl, for over 10 years. I wont say what salon, but its not a high end one, just a basic hair shop. However, i have stayed loyal to her, because i never had to tell her what i wanted, and we have become friends over the last decade +. Even to the extent of when i lived in LA, i held off on haircuts until i came back to Phoenix for one reason or another. So, why go astray? Well, for one, i dont live in her area, and after a job change, felt like i needed a hair change too (us women are good for such things lol). I decided to go to Groupon to search salons in my hood, and this place popped up right away. I NEVER EVER EVER purchase a Groupon without checking Yelp reviews FIRST, they go hand in hand if you ask me. SO, as i scrolled and scrolled, through the pages of reviews, i kept seeing Rogers name come up in the reviews, and nothing but rave things were said about him. I decided to purchase the Groupon for a cut, condition and style. ONE OF THE BEST CHOICES EVER!! For all wondering, yes, he does participate in the Groupon voucher (not all stylists there do). I made my appointment for 330 this afternoon, and with arriving right at 330, was surprised to be taken back a few moments later. The place is very cute, small but well laid out, it didnt feel cramped. We instantly hit it off, and had plenty of conversation in the hour i was there. He listened to my concerns, my desired style, and my fear of cheating on my long time hairdresser. Although young, he is very knowledgeable, having experience in both Hollywood and Phoenix. I felt comfortable with his vision for my hair, and he also explained how my current cut wasnt fit for me, and where it was choppy and not blending (side eye to my hair girl lol). I told him i wanted a change, but not a completely drastic one, my 8 year old needs to recognize me afterall! He cut about 2 inches off the length, and blended my layers in, as well as a bang trim. Which speaking of, he will do for free in between cuts so we don't botch his beautiful do. After telling him about my next day job fair attendance, he was even kind enough to color my roots with the spray dye, since i didnt have time to dye it prior. To me, that is above and beyond what was expected. He also gave me samples on the way out, what girl doesnt love those?!?! Overall, i am BEYOND thrilled. It's been quite awhile since I came in but wanted to share my experience as why I didn't come back after 2 visits. Niza was wonderful and yes, it is expensive, but hey, it's Arcadia and having color done on long, curly hair does cost. At the time he offered a yelp coupon which I did take advantage of but at my second and last appointment I was at the reception desk to pay and the receptionist asked another employee, right in front of me (I'm sure she wasn't aware that I was the customer being spoken about) that Niza wanted to know how much I was tipping because I was using the coupon. The answer was about 30% (my thoughts on using the coupon was I want the difference to go to the stylist to make up for the discount they are generously offering) but the fact that that question was asked in front of me did, unfortunately, put me off. It's awesome when discounts are offered and they are much appreciated by customers but that question made me feel very bad for using it. read more

Chic salon with many hair dressers. Each hairdresser has his/her own clients. I was from out of town, and they had an opening, so I booked with Claudia, who was very knowledgable. She showed me a couple of products, recommended a great hair style to go with my face, and showed me how to style it. I had an interview the next day, and got the job, and I know part of the reason was because I felt good in my new cut. Will definitely book again with Claudia when I move there. They have their own line of hair products (shampoos & conditioners). It's good, but nothing out of this world. I'll probably stick with what I have now, but it's a good natural option. read more

I stopped in desperate for a cut and style after a Great Clips botch. I had that Monday off work and figured it would be easy to find a place open for a cut. NOT SO! There are very very few salons open on Mondays, unless you want to go to Great Clips or Fantastic Sam's (DONT!). When I called to schedule my same day appointment the receptionist was kind and efficient. When I arrived I was surprised by the cool young vibe of the salon, and it's HUGE. I was immediately greeted and introduced to Roger. I don't even know how to segue this, but I got the best cut of my life. Roger did an incredible job. I had brought in some photos of the short cut I wanted, and going from very long hair to short, I was nervous. Roger suggested a cut slightly less drastic and explained why it would compliment me perfectly. I was impressed that he used no less than 4 cutting tools on me.. He seems to be at the top of his game in knowledge of the industry. He also didn't chastise me TOO much about the Great Clips debaucle, and promised to fix the botch, which he followed through with and then some. I know every salon touts an individualized style/cut consultation, but this is the first time where I felt like I was actually being analyzed for my best interest and my ideas were listened to and addressed. I loved this place and loved Roger! I'm so incredibly pleased with my experience that I will NEVER go anywhere else.
