Though R Salon seemed to be a good spot for the alternative crowd, my experience was not a good one. I like a classic hairstyle-sleek, smooth, with good/even layers. My style is the fairly common, very classic and chic graduated hairstyle where it is shorter in the back and a bit longer in the front. If you are looking for a hairstyle like this DO NOT GO TO R SALON! I was hoping to escape the pricey Scottsdale salon prices, but after my experience I will gladly part with the $60 bucks. I got the absolute worst hair cut from a student salon, but I was a starving student and I needs a cheap cut. I let it grow out for a couple of months and then heard about R Salon and found out it was right in my area. I looked online and saw that cuts start at about $35.00 depending on the stylist, that is the best price I have seen in the area by far, unless you are planning to use SuperCuts. I booked an appointment and they were able to get me in right away to see Amy. I have to say Amy was amazing. She was easy to talk to, really listened to what I wanted with my hair and was totally upfront with everything she did. She is super knowledgeable, and used a couple of lesser used techniques on my hair. She even spent a good portion of my visit instructing me on how to style my hair, in a manner that was easy for me to learn and super fast. All in all this was a great experience, the only reason I knocked off a star is that if you are approaching from Camelback the doors that face out are not the entrances. You have to walk around to the back of the building to find the entrance. Not something that is easily figured out. I walked back and forth for a couple of minutes until one of the stylists stepped out and directed me to the door. Otherwise this was a great hair cut for $40.00 which is the best price I have found in my area and Amy made sure to tell me on my way out that she does bang trims for free. She recommended that I come back in 2-3 weeks and get them touched up. I will definitely be heading back for another cut, and will be trying out a nail service the next time too! read more

I had the pleasure of going to this place over the weekend. Shawn did such a great job on my hair. I don't like going to places that don't know how to do a consultation, Shawn was really sharp in putting something together for me. My hair is curly and most stylists get scared seeing all that hair coming their way, but not Shawn! I've gotten many compliments that it looks amazing- something I have not gotten before. Used a groupon for a cut and partial highlights and WOW. The place was huge and the front desk people helped me right away. I got such a fun vibe from the place. I got my hair done with Janelle and she is the BEST. So fun and easy to talk to. She knew exactly how to handle my very thin fine hair, and the color is absolutely perfect. I'm a student and will be traveling all around for rotations, so she wanted to make sure my color would still look good as it grew out since I'm not sure when I'll get the chance to get it touched up. My experience was not customer satisfactory. Prices were never communicated before the procedure. i was using yelp deal $75 for $50. Which was well communicated before an appointment. Later they said its not mentioned in my appointment .I had two of those deals and asked scheduling lady whether I can use two deals together in same appointment for hair color and hair cut -blow dry was all the time? She said yes. To my surprise in the salon, they did not accept both deals at the same time both coz of some reason stating its a service oriented industry cannot use two deals at the same time. I could have scheduled two appointments if it was communicated well in advance, one for hair cut - blow dry next one for color. I was there for four hours. I was always unsure about the next process since my stylist was handling two clients at the same time. After waiting for four hours when i was told I am done with no styling on my hair only front sides were styled . The haircut is uneven. I had asked for layers. Didn't like the fact there was very less communication with me. No itemized break up for the charge i was told was given and no receipt of course. And payment took another 20 -25 mins since none of the payment methods were working. Had to pay through some app. My hair looked good in the salon till I came home and saw extremely dry ends and too many colors on my hair coz of the bleach. Zero on customer satisfaction. Please provide parking directions as it is very very confusing. Last time I visited was 2 years back when my husband dropped me hence had no clue where should I park. Well, I think the guy who did my hair was Jay or something of that nature. Bulky gray haired man sitting in the very back of the salon. I literally felt abused with how rough and ridiculously savage he treated my head! I gave 2 stars because my hair looked good but at the price of a migraine? He kept saying he had hair shows in Milan and Peru because he'd been doing this for so long but in my head I'm like "you've been doing this how long and nobody told you you're beating their brains to a pulp?" went to get highlights, my hair was in great condition and half way down my back. After high lights, my hair was damaged. When I went back, the manager gave me a 1oz bottle of conditioner. I didn't realize how damaged until I tried to restore condition and failed with all types of expensive products. I went to another hairstylist and she said my hair will continue to break off. Janelle was recommended by a close friend of mine so I went to her and got a Brazilian Blowout and shaping cut. She was excellent and I really appreciated her honesty about products. She answered all the questions I had about products sharing the best products ranging from roughly $4-50+ so I was aware of the best product to get even if I didn't want to spend $$$. I moved to Phoenix 8 years ago and unfortunately left my stylist of 12+ years in NJ. After tireless searching and continued let down I found Rick and R Salon. A groupon popped up and I thought let me research this Salon and see if it's really a "good deal" I read glowing reviews of Rick and thought he sounded like he was a match....luckily my intuition paid off! I've been going to R Salon for about 3 years now. They recently renovated and it looks hip but also warm and inviting (which matches the staff to a T). I love that the receptionist are always friendly and helpful. They always offer to get you a drink and there are even snacks if you're hungry. My nail-tech is Jennifer - she is wonderful. Funny and warm and does a great job. She always makes me happy and looking better than I came in. She's really a professional and I recommend her whole-heartedly. :-) read more

Not sure what happened, but went in asking for soft long layers and some volume, with pictures from pinterest. Ended up with a very choppy hair cut with way too much texturizing by Miranda (kind of ended up looking like the mom from the Brady Bunch which was definitely NOT the look I was going for). Did call to get it fixed by the salon owner which they agreed to, but decided just to try and let it grow out before it gets too short. FYI I have been there before and the owner cut and colored my hair and did a great job. But was I a hurry to get it done, and he was not available - lesson learned. Had my hair highlighted blonder for the summer and again everything was great! Highlights came out looking fabulous and I received several compliments that day! I think I've mentioned previously about their hair products that they make themselves. I've used one of their conditioners now for almost a year and nothing compares. It's slightly expensive but a little goes a long way and it makes my hair feel like silk in addition to smelling amazing! I went in today on a Groupon and my stylist was Lisa. She was fantastic! 'm one of those "low maintenance, should take better care of my hair but I don't" people and she made me look and feel fabulous. My biggest concern was maintaining length while also getting my hair healthy and she accomplished both. My long layers look beautiful! She recommended some face framing and it really made me feel pretty. Also - This salon is huge, way bigger than it seems outside and it's real pretty inside. The customer service was awesome too. I have anxiety about going into salons, but when I went to R salon I was put at ease. I set up an appointment, they gave me groupon price without buying to groupon. (I would recommend calling them first as a new client.) Then I met with my hair stylist Haley. She was so amazing! Best person that has done my hair so far. She recognized the issue with my color right away and put me at ease by fixing it. Haley also cut my hair in a way that will make it more manageable for my style. Afterwards, the lady at the desk gushed over my hair and even gave me tips on upkeep. Amazing people and Haley is a quality person/hair stylist! I bought the groupon for deep conditioning & a hair cut. My stylist was Jaimie and he did a great job! He shampoo'd & let the conditioner sit for a while before he rinsed it out and then gave me a trim. My hair is super soft and my split ends are gone. I got a perm in August so my hair was at a really awkward stage but the trim brought it back to life. He was very nice and welcoming. The salon was a little difficult to find bc Apple maps is clueless but other than I had a really great experience. The salon is very cute! read more

I was excited to try a new salon and decided to use a Groupon for partial hi-highlights and a cut. The gal at the front desk messed up when I scheduled my appointment, so when I arrived at the salon, I had to wait 25 minutes, so she could assign a new stylist. No one seemed to care that I had to wait so long, as if I had nothing better to do. Long story short, SALON R advertises a $37 Groupon for partial hi-lights and a cut. The reality is they tack on an extra $4 and the price does NOT include toner. Toner is an extra $25...who does color with no toner????? If you want your hair styled, plan on another $25... This place is a joke and a rip off!! The arrogant and rude stylist who did my hair was Niza Lideo....he only cared about how many extra services he could sell me and made it quite clear he is used to charging far more money than the groupon I had planned to use. By the way, my highlights came out way too light with no dimension whatsoever. The amateur haircut was also just as disappointing. This place is a joke and a rip off!! read more
