This is a great place to get some local products for yourself or, like I just did, for Christmas gift bags of treats to bring a bit of Indy to family members who live elsewhere! They carry all my favorites including the best selection of B-Happy Peanut Butter I've seen anywhere. Best Chocolate in Town, Tinker Coffee, Dillman Farms, Just Pop In, Broad Ripple Chips and many others are represented here! The ready-made refrigerated and frozen items look wonderful as well; I need to return to try some of those! I love how Indianapolis is always changing and re-inventing itself. Since I've lived here, we've seen the move from Market Square to Conseco/Bankers Life.. the transition from the Hoosier Dome to Lucas Oil, Mass Ave from a run-down street with public housing to one of the best streets in Indy (still with public housing) and the reinvention of the specialty grocery stores. About 15 years ago when Food Network introduced us to Ina Garten, Giada De Laurentiis, Paula Deen and Rachel Ray, my little TiVo recorded hours and hours of food being prepared, most of it purchased at specialty stores. I can't tell you how many times I heard "just run down to your specialty grocery and pick up.." - and we had nothing like this. Was Meijer, Marsh or Wal-Mart considered a specialty grocery store, and why didn't they carry anything they were talking about on TV? Finally, our world-class city starting to get with the program. More and more people cared about where the food they were consuming came from, demanding more and more local ingredients and some of these "specialty" items. Some really smart people decided they would be the ones to begin this transformation, and we started seeing specialty stores popping up. Kind of. Let's face it.. Goose The Market was really the pioneer here, but this is a review about R2GO and not Goose, so let's just fast forward about 6 years to mid-December, 2014. Because I really think "bodega" sounds a heck of a lot cooler than "specialty grocery store" and I did see spanish-type items on the shelves, I'm going to refer to R2GO as a cute little bodega. Opening just before Christmas, the shelves have a heavy influence on local. The fridge and freezers are stocked with freshly prepared entrees and sides that you can whip up in a breeze. I saw a great selection of refrigerated and frozen soups, including chicken stock that were prepared in house as well as a limited selection of fresh produce. I'm hoping once we hit summer the produce expands. Fresh breads lined the wall next to the seating area where people can grab a sandwich from the counter and have a quick bite. The meat counter offers more specialty items than you can find at your big chain grocery store, and sandwiches are made to order. I'm so happy to have this within walking distance to me. As the temperatures get warmer, I'm hopeful tables and chairs pop up on the patio where I can grab a bite to eat while watching the day go by. Welcome to the neighbor, R2GO! read more

I cannot speak for the 'Meals2Go' as I just popped into today check out the 'specialty market', but from my first impression I can say I will be having a meal from here very, very soon. This place reminds me of Goose the Market, but in a much larger space with less meat. The market offers a great variety of Indiana made products such as cookies from the Sisters of St. Benedict in northern Indiana, Amelia's bread from Indy, pretzels from Tell City, and B.'s Peanut Butter from Zionsville. The meals-to-go includes a nice variety of healthy salads, and hearty entrees (Turkey Meatloaf with Leek Mash?! Sounds yummers!). The location is in a renovated building that has been empty since I've lived here (almost 9 years). It's has a lovely charm about it. I think it's fair to guess there will be outdoor seating in the warmer months. The staff was friendly when we approached the register, but as the only customers in the store, no one offered to help us as we looked? I found that a bit odd for a newly opened establishment. I mean, I'm from Indy.... so the market items are familiar to me, but a visitor would just be like 'Oh, another bag of caramel and cheddar popcorn in cool packaging.' (Um, no that is Just Pop In popcorn that's out of this world delicious!). I am very happy to see more local offerings in the downtown area. In the summer I can walk here for local produce, and a snack then continue on to Mass Ave. for other shenanigans. Tip: I believe they made extra parking on the street that runs along the power sub-station. I could even mention that they had lots of local food items that many folks saw at the recent Yelp's Totally Bazaar. I popped into R2GO with my 1-year old after the Indiana Landmarks Treasure Hunt on a hot and sticky Summer day. It was the perfect lunch spot, and I left excited to come back in for dinner, take-out, or lunch. This is the ideal neighborhood market! We tried the following: -4 dolmades -A small bag of homemade oat biscuits (cookies). -A perfectly ripe fresh peach -Orzo salad from the carry-out case Here's what I loved: -The prepared food! It was fresh and beautiful and deliciously prepared. -There is a small indoor seating section with bar seating and tables, which we used. Chilled water is self-serve. -The staff were interested in helping me pick out the perfect selections for my son and I. They were helpful, not pushy. -We spent only $8 -- for all of the items listed above. Proof that you can find delicious healthy local food at a reasonable price! The sandwich options looked delicious! The shelves were packed with carefully curated options (many local) at really decent prices. I love having R2GO in the neighborhood. They not only offer tons of great options for every day items like bread, spices and seasonings, spreads, etc. but they also have amazing food! If you go on Tuesdays, they have delicious tacos! They usually have great soups available as well. In the display case, they have some meat and cheese options and normally pastas as well. In the coolers they have premade meals that you can take home and heat up! And let me tell you, they are excellent. There's always an interesting variety of meals including whole 30 options. They love having your dogs visit as well! If you choose to eat in, they normally offer a bowl of water for your friend. They actually sell some natural dog treats in the corner. One final thing, I was able to find a gluten-free pasta here that I can make it home. It's not easy to find gluten-free items that taste good but this one really does! I went here once upon a time for a fabulous Yelp event. I just moved into the Chatham Arch neighborhood and thought I would stop in! I stopped in one rainy evening because I didn't feel like cooking. I picked up several things including a cherry, cranberry, and apple cobbler for a get together. It was delicious and everyone thought I made it myself until I came clean. Credit where credit is due Regina. I picked up the chicken pot pie, cauliflower mac n' cheese, pulled pork enchiladas, and most importantly THE BACON PANINI. Made ready to go and I ate some on the way home, it was delicious and filling. They have such a range of options of "Ready to Go" food, including lots of Whole 30 dishes for all you resolution-ers out there. When I visited Austin, TX, for the first time last year, there was this amazing specialty grocery store across the street from my hotel. It had all sorts of delicious local foods from purveyors in Austin as well as other cities. I visited it every day and was able to taste some awesome stuff from the most delicious city I've ever been to (Sorry, Indy. I know you're a work progress). I thought to myself, "I wish Indianapolis had one of these." GUESS WHAT, YELPERS. My foodie dream came true! Enter R2GO, the specialty grocery store that carries all of your local favorites from Indy and Indiana: Fermenti Artisan, Broad Ripple Potato Chip, B.Happy Peanut Butter, 240sweet, Hidden Pond Farm, Traders Point, 4 Birds, Amelia's, Just Pop In, New Fangled Confections, Preservation, Smoking Goose, Cheez Pierogi...and that's what I can think of off the top of my head. (NOTE: I did notice specialty products from outside of Indiana as well) The shelves are STOCKED with some awesome, quality foods and ingredients. I may or may not have danced in the aisle as I saw favorite after favorite. In fact, all my dancing of joy made me work up an appetite, but luckily, R2GO had me covered with fresh produce, meals to go, and paninis that can be made on the spot. There are lots of options in those sections as well. Although I wanted to go for the sticky toffee pudding and carrot soup, I opted for a walnut and cauliflower salad instead. (Don't be too disappointed in me, because I grabbed a 4 Birds oatmeal cookie at the counter. Also: the salad was super tasty, and the oatmeal cookie was the best oatmeal cookie I've ever had.) Love having R2Go in the neighborhood! For me, it's more about having a small grocery in the neighborhood for when you go to cook or bake and realize you don't have a key ingredient (milk, butter, eggs, baking soda, things like that). The only two things I would improve are the hours (it never fails, I ALWAYS need something on a Sunday... face palm) and a better crosswalk at their intersection (I absolutely know that's out of their control but trying to cross the street right there can be brutal during busier times of the day). This was a very cool place. I lived less than a mile from this location for 5 years. I was so bummed that it finally came in AFTER I moved to the burbs. I was able to make it over there for carry out recently. This strip is a lovely addition to the neighborhood and R2Go is a cool little shop. It reminds me of the little ethnic groceries dotted around Chicago. The ethnicity here is "Indy." There were lots and lots and LOTS of local products. The prices seem comparable to other local shops. There is also a refrigerated and freezer section. Tons of dinner options here. I took home the olive and potato stew. It was very tasty and not overly salty despite a lot of green olives in the stew. There were also many gelato options. They had a very small produce section as well with some harder to find items likes sunchokes and shallots. They also have a deli counter where you can order sandwiches to eat in or carry out. Bonus -- you can buy any of the meats and cheeses to build your own at home. Here's where they lost a couple stars. I asked for a sample of cheese and they happily obliged with a razor thin slice. I ordered the cheese and said that slice thickness was fine. I don't know whether they didn't want to correct me on the slice thickness, they didn't know better, or if it was the way the cheese was wrapped in butcher paper, but within two days of bringing it home, the cheese was mostly dried out. Same with the meat. It's a bit on the expensive side, so I was sad that the dogs got to eat the majority of my smoked mozzarella and turkey. I will definitely be back, but I will make sure to order thicker slices and repackage it in plastic wrap as soon as I get home. read more

It's nice Indy now has a few small specialty markets, R2GO being one of them. I was stoked that this one was opening super close to my apartment with the positive reviews of Regina's cooking artistry. That 11th & College building had been looking horrible and decrepit for many years. The place had sent out a 15% off coupon to the area which enticed me to come by and see what the place is about. It's not much of my scene unless I were to host a dinner party and need something uber fancy to enhance the party. I couldn't decide what to pick up for dinner as all of the options were kind of pricy. I believe I spoke with Regina when I placed my order, and she didn't seem very happy or interested in making small talk. Walked around a second time while my sandwich was being made. I got my bag, trucked it home and opened it up to an oddly-small sandwich. Really delicious, but too small for the $6.50 I paid. The rhubarb apple cobbler was amazing though, worth the $4. read more

What an awesome place to shop for your dinner staples on the way home; cheeses, breads, pastas, veggies, fresh soups, seasonings & condiments & sauces, desserts, & snacks. Made to order sandwiches & side dishes like my fave cauliflower-fennel-pear with walnut salad can be consumed at the counter seats or taken with you. Neat little selection of kitchenwares to browse in, and a fantastic view of College Avenue make this a nice new place to eat & shop in. On my way home one day, I randomly stopped in to check this place after reading about it from fellow Yelpers. I've passed this place several times and had no idea it was there. I was excited about the concept. Downtown is in need of markets and, of course, any place that spotlights local and quality businesses is a winner in my book. Unfortunately, I was surprisingly underwhelmed by R2GO. I felt the interior itself was sterile. The customer service was pretty decent. The cashier I had seemed nervous. The selection of food items seemed limited,although they did carry unique items that I haven't seen other places especially the various meats they offer including rabbit. I couldn't resist purchasing a box of chicken empanadas that sounded pretty tasty. My stomach started to do its' own happy dance, so I decided to stick around and try one of the deli sandwiches. I opted for the Regina's Bacon Panini and a ginger beer. I mean, they had me at bacon! The sandwich itself was pretty good, but for the $8.50 price tag I didn't find it substantial or unique enough for my taste. The ginger beer was fantastic! Although I appreciate what this business is attempting to do and wish them the best of luck, unfortunately this place didn't really tickle my fancy. I am really excited about the potential of this place. I've always missed the deli section of BloomingFoods since moving back to Indianapolis, and R2GO stands to fill that void. For starters, I know I'll be coming here regularly to snag eggs and microgreens between market days. There's plenty of goodies from local vendors here, including many I didn't expect -- oils, vinegars, pickles, sauces, and snacks. Having steady access to Broad Ripple Chip Co. chips is going to be dangerous, so I'm going to have to exert a bit of self-control. The prepared dishes I've had so far have been delicious, and I'm excited to try more. While the charcuterie selection still pales in comparison to Goose the Market, there's certainly no saturation of local vendors in downtown Indianapolis, and this availability is a welcome addition to the neighborhood. The challenge will be finding the supply to stock the capacity of the space. The place just opened, so it may take some time, but right now it feels a bit empty and sterile on the inside, glowing fluorescent from refrigeration, much like a gas station general store. That might be the goal, but it contrasts oddly with the rustic baskets the onions and shallots are displayed in. I'm looking forward to a bit more color inside the store as spring rolls around. Still, a strong, strong start for this place. I'll be going back often. read more

Tip: if you ever need to cheer up a Russian, bring them smoked fish. I had a sick man on my hands and stopped here for the first time to pick up some treats for him on the way home. Lo and behold they had a variety of smoked trout, salmon, lobster and salmon roe creme fraiche, and all those lovely fishy things plus Amelia's bread. I have driven by this place and even stopped by a couple of places in the area, but never felt I had a reason to come to this place...mostly because I hadn't heard much about it or what it exactly was. I knew it consisted of quick to-go meals but that's about all I knew. I stopped by for a yelp event for my first time here. I was lucky enough to speak to the owner, Regina. She was very nice and educated in her field, something I really appreciate! The selling point of this place is the vastly large amount of local products in the storefront. Meats, cheese, breads, spreads, drinks, and so much more. I love that aspect is this place. And the prices are pretty close to what you would find anywhere else! Glancing thru the pre-made items made from the kitchen, they also seemed appetizing. The kitchen aspect of the store really only offers sandwiches, one of which is vegetarian. The other stuff is already pre-made. All in all, I can see myself stopping in here if I was in the area and wanted to find some local goods. Fresh, local and incredibly reasonably priced. My wife and I came because I saw they were advertising Whole30 prepared meals (in the refrigerator case). My wife got a panini (portobello which she loved) and we also picked up some sliced meats and cheeses from the deli section. Compared to prices we've paid for the same stuff from one of the local supermarkets we will go out of our way to come and shop here as it will help save money. Parking isn't too bad on 11th St which dead ends. They also have a few "gift"-y items like Indiana shaped cutting boards so we will be coming here for some gift shopping in the future. And there are some gluten free packaged items on the grocery shelves if you're avoiding wheat. My only disappointment is some of the prepared meals we bought are way too sweet. The pickled zucchini from the deli case was way too sweet. And the prepared meals in the fridge (that we have tried so far) tended to also be on the sweet side where I was expecting more savory. Also the Whole30 case contained a lot of prepared foods that don't adhere to Whole30 so they really need to label the Whole30 products better (maybe get a special sticker for those items that are Whole30 compliant so they are easily identifiable from the non-Whole30 meals). This is my kind of place. Why? Fresh, local, creative, simple and delicious. I stopped here on a whim, and I didn't really know what to make of the place when I first walked in. It's a market of sorts with very random items, such as organic dog snacks to canned coconut milk. It's a small café of sorts with a small menu of a few sandwiches and salads with a few seats to enjoy your food. It's a small deli of sorts with quality meats and cheeses. It's a carry-out place of sorts with a cooler filled with wonderfully fresh, visually pleasing and healthy premade items in disposable containers that I swear Ina Garten had influence. What does all of this mean? It means specialty shop. A boutique for food. Heaven. When I'm hungry in the afternoon, grabbing a lentil salad, kale salad, or Brussels sprout salad is this girl's dream and that's exactly what they offer. Though I dined in the establishment, I opted for the carry-out dishes because they appealed to me at the moment. Delicious. I've never had a Brussels sprout salad and it was amazingly simple but yum. Lightly drizzled with walnut oil...my taste buds sang. The lentil salad was great, too. This was a perfect, filling and healthy lunch for me, and for those of you who appreciate a quaint establishment with quality ingredients, this place is for you. Like Regina's other incarnations, this place is just fine. It certainly looks nice enough, and the interior's urban-smart decor compliments the exterior of the recently revitalized old retail building. And it absolutely can't be faulted for a genuine effort in gathering locally sourced products whenever possible. Beyond the well known ones (Trader's Point Creamery, Smoked Goose, etc), R2GO finds some welcome obscurities! And if it's non-Hoosier-made, chances are it's on the shelf as a way to fill a much needed void. Regina compromises on the "locally sourced" rule only when it's appropriate...the mark of a good eye. But I hope that keen vision extends to her staff, or whoever spot-checks the merchandise. Bags of Stacy's pita chips were on display and were weeks past their expiration, while several brands of chocolate we coming awfully close their zero hour. I know that sell-by dates are often misleading and many items remain good long after the date listed, but I wasn't going to take my chance with a $4.95 bag o' chips that could be stale. Lastly, I've heard complaints on the prices. I don't have much basis of comparison since I don't go to these types of stores that often, so maybe the dry goods are steep. But the produce selection at R2GO, albeit small, seemed very reasonable. I was just bummed because I wanted a fruit in which it is difficult to tell if it's ripe, so I asked the clerk how to determine this. Regina herself came out and assured me the fruit must be ripe because she opened one yesterday and it was great. Sure, but if you're a refined little specialty store, shouldn't you KNOW how to judge if your own merchandise is ready for consumption? I couldn't be happier that a long unused corner of downtown Indy has been re-purposed for foodie bliss! I love this little store with local and seasonal delights. I roamed around a bit and picked up a sandwich for lunch. The bacon panini and Brussels sprouts salad. The bacon panini was decadent with a sweet and smoky/salty bacon flavor! The brussels sprouts salad was just the right balance of salt and fresh Brussels sprouts flavor. They sold me on a 4 birds oatmeal cookie at checkout and it was quite good as well. Although I couldn't finis it along with my lunch, it was a great opportunity to share! I can't wait to go back and stock my kitchen with some local goodies! Also on the agenda is to try some of the prepared food. They have some selections that are the same as menu items at Rbistro. I can't tell you how sick I am after her cooking "class". I was excited to LEARN how to make a dish. In reality I was handed a recipe from Pinterest, A kitchen I had never cooked in, a recipe I was handed 5 minutes before I had to cook, with minimal directions on it, and she said make this dish in 30 minutes. It says the class is 6:30-8:30. LOL! We didn't have any food until 9. The "fine dining" menu was filled with processed oils, refined added sugar, processed grains, and canned food. I told her I don't eat grains and she responds by making fun me for not eating carbs all night. Lady I eat a lot of carbs...in vegetables! Also romaine is hardly a nutrient dense green. Romaine is served on McDonald's sandwiches for a reason. I don't eat dairy, pork, grains, or added sugar. I know that's unusual but she didn't once ask about allergies. To add to all of it Regina treated me with condescension and passive aggressiveness like I was an obtuse, misbehaving grade school kid. I've been cooking 95% of my meals for the last 2 years of my life. I have been successful by timely preparation, understanding, and direction from my mentors... I was excited to learn from a so called "celeb chef", but I was left in extreme stomach pain, brain fog, and disgust. Also $80 for a meal that would cost me $10 to make. This experience humorously and bluntly sums up why Indy truly is more a pretender than anything else in the foodie scene. ***After reading other reviews I think this city is losing it. This is a fantastic Specialty market. If I had to take all my favorite products and put them in one spot it would be this place. The Chutney in the refrigerated section is amazing. I love all the local products. I am going to have to come back and get some of the fresh soups. This is such a perfect concept. I was super excited when R2GO entered my neighborhood. They have a great selection of local items including some great frozen and refrigerated meals/sides that you can heat up and claim as your own. I would highly recommend trying the sticky toffee bread pudding if you have a sweet tooth. If you want to pick up a quick lunch or dinner, they also have sandwiches that they make to carry out. I attended a cooking class at R2Go last night and had an absolute blast! Chef and owner, Regina planned out the perfect meal. We had a group of 8 and everyone took a part of the meal. From fresh cantaloupe aqua fresca to a cherry clafouti.. it was fabulous! I enjoyed cooking in a commercial kitchen and BONUS: not having to do the dishes. Been dying to stop in to check out this store for ages...turns out my first chance was for a girls night out to a cooking class at R2GO led by none other than Regina (head chef of R bistro/owner of R2GO) herself! Now admittedly, my GFs and I thought we were going to a relaxing evening of sipping wine while watching cooking demonstrations-and were a bit surprised when we were put TO WORK. No light chopping while guzzling wine in this class-we were responsible for cooking (almost) all the food! However, it was amazing-so much fun, great directions and interactions from a local celeb chef, and AMAZING FOOD (irish themed for this class). Um, this place just opened, so it's just getting its balance, and I can assume it will become more assured and more of its own place over time. Right now it's a pale imitation of Goose the Market, but Regina Mehallick did things gloriously her own way at RBistro and can surely eventually do the same here. There is a meat counter, but in the place of the Goose's inventive meats and cheeses are your standard deli items. Perhaps most of the pantry items can be found at the Goose. They do have interesting things in the frozen section, such as rabbit and pierogies, but throughout the store prices are exorbitant. There's the Talenti gelato you can get for $2 less at the Kroger a few blocks away. People pay the high prices at the Goose because of the cool factor of their merchandise and the relative novelty of the selection. If R2GO is going to have much of the same thing just a few blocks away, I don't see them becoming much of a destination shop. The place is clean and shiny, the staff is very friendly if a little uncertain, and the location is great. read more

We have had this on our list to try-especially now that Regina had decided to close R Bistro! Many great choices for dinner and the neat thing is that the cost for two dinners is about the same price as a large pizza. Easy parking right outside on College Ave. same friendly staff to wait on you-Nathan was awesome! I finally made it here! We checked out the grocery and bought a few sandwiches for lunch. I opted for the meatball sandwich, which was perfect for the chilly day in Indy. I learned they make their own meatballs, which in my opinion, sold me immediately. Everything in the sandwich just melted together into a warm, gooey, delicious delight. I also had a bite of my boyfriend's sandwich, which was my second choice. He ordered the bacon panini. It was like a fancy BLT: bacon, watercress, and an apple-tomato chutney. The chutney was absolutely what set it apart and what will make me order this next time! Quality ingredients cost extra, which makes me appreciate it. I just wish they were a little bigger or came with something when it's $6.50 an $9.00 for a sandwich...then I could get it more often! :) It's so nice to have another resource to stop by and pick up my favorite Broad Ripple Chips and B. I work in the area and this has become a go-to stop for me if I haven't had time to pack a lunch. Real food that you feel good about eating, and tastes terrific. Plenty of simple vegetable preparations for very reasonable prices. Thoughtful sandwiches. The food is straight-ahead, well-executed, with nuance and a bit of culinary flair. It feels like a professional chef is packing my lunch, and cares about my health as well as the flavors. As the name would suggest it's fairly quick if you're in a hurry. I would find the market portion convenient if I lived in the neighborhood and had more time for making meals at home. read more

After visiting here for a Yelp party I decided it was time to give it a try. As soon as I walked in my eyes went straight for the sandwich board. My choice- bacon, avocado, and tomato/apple chutney on ciabatta. While I was waiting for it to be freshly prepared I strolled around to see what else they offered. Their coolers are filled with meals for one that are ready to be warmed and eaten. They have lasagna for one, stuffed peppers for one, salads, dips and much more. They also have a deli counter where you can order sliced meats and cheeses. I decided to get some pickled zucchini as a side for my sandwich. Back at work I opened up my sandwich and took a bite. It was delectable. The flavors went well together and you could taste the freshness. The pickled zucchini was also delicious and a great addition to the meal. The one caveat to the meal was the price. The sandwich was $9 a little pricey for the size. I would love to see a larger sandwich or cheaper price. Overall I think this is a great lunch place if you want to treat your self! read more

This is just what the area needs! We have been dining at Regina's rBistro for years and begging to go food from her. We finally are getting it. Just open a few weeks, it is an absolute treat. Have had several meals to go including the meatloaf and shepherds pie. Not only amazingly good to eat, but they are just heat and serve with generous portions. Walk the rest of the shop - all sorts of things you just need. Cheeses, crackers, chicken stock, the list goes on. There are even gourmet dog treats. And the sandwiches. Another great thing about the to go aspect is if you are staying at one of the hotels, this is the only place you can get a gourmet meal you can just heat up in your room (microwave not included). All I can say is JUST GO!!! read more

My mom was visiting and I was so excited to try R2GO for lunch. We walked several blocks on a very cold day hoping for some warm sandwiches and hot soup. When we arrived, we ordered a panini and asked about soup. We were told they didn't have any (it's on their menu online), but we could buy some out of the cold case to take home with us. I asked if we could buy it and have it heated up, and the woman working said no. WHYYYY do you have a huge, beautiful commercial kitchen if you can't heat up some soup?! It just baffles my mind. So, instead we decided we'd just split a panini and some cookies. Then we were told the panini is made on a cibatta roll (about 3x3") and she recommended not splitting since they are so small. We ended up ordering two. While the taste and quality was delicious, I've just never had an $8 panini be such a small sandwich! I really want R2GO to succeed. It's an awesome concept and just what our neighborhood needs. Hopefully it can improve their dining-in options since it's such a warm, inviting space. read more
