I went to Rabbit Creek many years ago, and back then it was run by RSOs who weren't welcoming. They enforced a "no more than 10 rounds per mag" rule, and I witnessed new, first-time range-goers get humiliated by staff--even when they hadn't done anything wrong. That experience stuck with me, and it's been about 25 years since I last went. Recently, I purchased up a new firearm with some "Gucci" accessories, and I just wanted to test how it handled and get back home quickly. Rabbit Creek was my only option, so--reluctantly--I went. Next to me was a group that looked like they were enjoying their first time at the range. When the RSO called a cease fire, they were a bit confused, fumbled around, and didn't raise their hands as expected. I braced myself, thinking, "Here we go--this RSO's going to throw their weight around." The RSO simply walked over and explained the procedure. They listened, understood, and complied. He did hang until the range was hot. It was a completely different vibe than what I remembered. Keep in mind there are some new firearm owners here. Be aware, help them if needed. Closed on Sunday for Sewards day. Sewards day falls on Monday, which they are closed anyway. God forbid they post it anywhere. You have to drive all the way to the range only to find locked gate. read more

Conveniently located gun range just outside of the Anchorage city limits off the Seward highway. Annual membership fee is $125 or else $18/adult per visit. They sell ear plugs and targets. Guns and glasses are not available for rent. Bring your own. They have a few safety officers working at any given time. In town shooting, but watch your back. This is a State ran shooting range that is just on the outskirts of South Anchorage. They have range facilities for Pistol, Rifle and shotgun. For shotgun they have Trap, Skeet and Five Stand. Although this range is close to town it is not one that I would frequent. Due to it's proximity to the urban area of Anchorage it draws some individuals that have no business possessing a firearm, let along be allowed to fire one. You know the type, groups in their late teens - early twenties with baggy pants and take aim by holding the weapon sideways. This range has also been in the middle of an ongoing political struggle that involves extending the costal trail system from south anchorage to Potter Marsh and beyond. The hikers, bikers and granola crunchers want to close the range to provide a right-of- way for the extension of the trail. The shooters want to keep their public range. Even though I don't frequent this range it would really be a shame for it to be pushed out for the trail. Plus, then all the baggy pants punks will show up at the range where I shoot. read more

Went to this place today to shoot my pistol and rifle. They have a range for pistols, rifles, and shotguns. The rifle range is always packed on Saturdays, but the pistol range for some reason is available. The staff seems on point being sticklers which is good for safety sake. For example, a guy near my station was quickly corrected by one of the staff for swaying his pistol because he was showing his GF how to handle it. A lady was told not to touch anything or load magazine while "ceasefire." I know gun enthusiast may disagree with loading part but I think it's an extra precaution. The range is available to all skill levels so I don't mind the occasional bark from the staff. This place do attract a lot of youngsters and they don't pick up after themselves. I don't think it's a range policy to pick up your brass after shooting, but I always do as a courtesy to the next person. I have an annual pass and I would recommend this place - if you're a beginner please take someone experience to show you the basics versus watching you tube. SCARY! read more

Very affordable fun. Pistols and long range weapons have separate ranges. They have protective gear rentals and also spotter scopes for $2. They sell targets. Bathrooms are clean. Just wish they had a dry sauna to thaw you out after being at the range for an hour or two. They do have heaters directly over each table but the breeze from the frozen ocean chills you. read more

Super friendly people. Very easy to just go and shoot. After getting told off by the people at Birchwood, this was a breath of fresh air.

As far as I'm concerned, 5 stars. My buddy and I went for the first time on a Friday April 2017. It wasn't very busy it at all on any of the 3 ranges. We rented one set of ear pro, for $1, and got to shooting. The self-policed .22 range is great, we had two other groups shooting with us, and self policing was smooth and friendly. Pistol and rifle ranges where a little busier but still very pleasant. The range officers were very clear with instructions, very friendly, and very safe, making an over all great shooting experience. We had to leave mid day for an appointment, and when we came back the staff honored our $11 day pass without question, and even gave us back the rented ear pro for no additional charge. Great facilities, great staff, we will be doing our shooting here for a long time to come. read more

Useless. You can't shoot from the holster?! Ridiculous. If they are so worried about morons shooting other people/themselves they need to come up with a better solution - like requiring a firearms course before entry for beginners. I've been around firearms my whole life, and I refuse to be on range where people can't even holster their own gun without killing themselves. That's the stupidest thing I have heard of. This place is garbage, and you won't see me paying money to be here. They are teaching people to shoot improperly.....if a bear, or person comes at you most likely you won't have your gun in your hand. If you haven't been shooting from the holster...you will not have enough time to react, and you will be unprepared. That gun you practiced with will be useless. Here's what they should do: Only let people who know how to handle a firearm into the range. It's really that simple. People who know how to use a firearm have enough sense NOT to put their hand on the trigger unless they are shooting. The idiots who ruined this for us need to find somewhere else to go. Congratulations! You've made a responsible gun owner feel unsafe using this facility... And I can't imagine what 'benefit' other responsible gun owners would reap from using this place...I refuse to be at a range where they let idiots, that could kill me, run wild. Using this place is far worse than not practicing at all. Typical state bullshit. We need more private ranges. read more

What a joke. I was treated like a child by the head range master for putting my handgun back into my holster during a cease fire, then un-holstering it during live fire to load up and shoot. Apparently carrying my handgun in a holster is a liability for this range. I do not recommend this range unless desperate, or not in the mood to travel north to a better range. read more

This is the only outdoor range that I've shot at, but I like it. From left to right, they offer ranges for archery, pistol, rifle, .22 (pistol or rifle), and shotgun. Yes, I made a minor safety mistake once and was sternly asked by a staff member to correct it. That was OK, safety is everyone's concern. I've also been politely asked if I was interested in some constructive advice. When I answered 'yes', I was given advice on my stance that has made me a better shooter. I've never had a bad experience here. I do sometimes wish that they were open a little later some weekdays. read more

Be prepared to pay money to be treated and yelled at like a kindergartener. Some of the staff are ok but then there are the crusty old crabs that will not hesitate to call you out in front of the whole place very rude like. I would avoid this place especially if you are a first timer, they will call you out in front of the whole place without hesitance and make you feel like you've commited a crime. read more

I learned to shoot here in the 60's wih my dad..... I now again live back in anchorage I am looking to return to the range and do some SAFE shooting. I am wondering if they have guidelines for the young groups of "kids" that may use the range....for my safety of course!!! read more
