I know that this salon doesn't have the greatest of reviews but let me tell you, if you tell them exactly what you want and even maybe show pictures of your desired look they can recreate it perfectly. I've been coming here since I was 10 years old and I am now 24. Since the very beginning they have treated my mom, aunt and myself as family. Over the years they have had a few stylists come and go but they have grown in their expertise and have a great set of talented, hardworking fully certified woman. On the salons Instagram page you can see them going to many different seminars on techniques to give their clients the best service that they possibly can. Not only are they certified on the many new techniques that are out for coloring, cutting and styling but you can not go wrong with their regular wash, roller/ dry service for only 25 dollars! ( for short-medium hair, it may be a little more for long hair) Please come and give this salon a chance. These woman are super talented and can give you an amazing look for a great price! read more

I came here for the first time early yesterday morning for a keratin treatment. I hadn't made an appointment and was greeted immediately and told it would be no problem. First, I was asked to sign a sign in sheet. The girls go by this book to determine the order in which each customer came in and make sure everyone is taken care of in the order they arrived. Nothing irks me more than seeing a girl walk in an hour after me and walk out 2 hours before me. This was a major plus for me. Giselle had worked on me and I gotta tell you she was FANTASTIC. Aside from receiving the hair wash/massage of the century, she was so pleasantly polite and worked on my hair as if she was working on the First Lady's hair. I walked out looking and feeling like a million bucks. I could immediately tell the difference in my hair and she gave me pointers on how to maintain and keep up with taking care of my locks. The pricing was the BEST PART of the entire experience. $90 for every ounce used. THAT IS A STEAL. Most places charge over $200 for keratin treatments and probably don't even do half of the job this salon does. I would recommend coming early, you can tell this place is a hit and gets full very quickly. Unless you have time to spare, prepare to spend a hefty amount of time there. It went okay but I told her I wanted a blonde streak and she turned it to grey, I assume she didn't understand what I was saying. So I told her again I wanted blonde and the other stylist had to translate to her and she fixed it very well and didn't charge me extra, thankfully but I had a feeling she was talking about me in her language. And it seemed like they were making their spanish clients more of a priority than their non spanish clients. They also made me wait forever and she was doing someone else's hair and not focusing on me. I recommend if you're not spanish don't go there and the stylist didn't even deserve a tip but she was nice. Also, I feel like she rushed my haircut and it's not even. I was so excited to come here because of the pictures and some reviews I have seen. I'm a little disappointed they do not take appointments and the place does not look clean. I went to use the restroom and there was a dirty towel in a bucket, no hand soap or paper towel to dry my hands. I left because the atmosphere wasn't great. They hair stylist must be great, but the owner should really think about organizing better. If your looking for walk-in, slightly messy, very cramped location this is the place. This is the first time I post pictures to a Yelp review so I hope I did it correctly. I just want you to fully understand the reason for such a horrible review. The ONLY reason why I am giving this place 1 star is because I am not able to give it any negative zero ratings. I am writing this review on behalf of my mom - who does not have nor does she know how to post reviews on Yelp. So here it is... My mother walked into Racelly's Hair Studio on the 23rd of December with the hopes of coming out looking and feeling like a brand new woman just in time for the holidays. What she got instead was a full head of damaged hair, swollen eyes from crying so much and $145 dollars less than when she walked in. Oh, did I mention SCABS all over her scalp?! Yea.... Before sitting in the chair my mother asked Marleny if what she was asking for (Ombre - Brown at the roots fading into dirty blond) was possible and even showed her pictures of what she wanted done. Marleny said to her, with all assurance and confidence, that it was indeed possible. So with that...my mom sat in the chair and leaves her beautiful black curly hair in the hands of what she thought was a "professional". Little did my poor mom know that this was going to be her worst nightmare. Let's just take a quick note of the time that she walked in which was at 11:40am. Marleny then proceeds to work on her hair. My sister was also there but only for a wash & blow. As my mom is sitting in the chair for way longer than she expected with product in her hair (bleach) starts feeling a burning sensation on her scalp. It starts getting worse. So much so, that my mom is now covering her face with a towel so that the other customers are not looking at her. That didn't really help much because they already saw that my mom was in agony from the bleach that was BURNING HOLES IN HER SCALP! When dear old Marleny finally decides to wash the bleach out. My mom takes one look in the mirror - she is in shock. Not the good kind either. Marleny then proceeds to start blow drying my moms hair as if that blonde/orange hair was what she asked for. My mom then asks if she is going to add another color to it and she tells her no...that was it. My mother demands that she add a color to her hair because she is not walking out of the salon with orange hair. So at this point the ombre that my mom originally wanted is down the drain. She is balling her eyes out crying.They gave her an explanation that she would have to come back for another sitting in order to get the ombre affect. Something that they did not mention at the very beginning before my mom sat down in the chair. Plus, something that is not true because I had the same exact thing done to my hair (obviously not there but at a true professional salon) and I too have black hair...and it was done in one sitting. Perfectly. After this new color that my mom had to pick out (brown/ash) was applied and still didn't come out the right color was all done....they had the audacity to try and charge my mom FULL PRICE for the HORRID service and DAMAGE they caused to her hair and scalp. My mother tried arguing her way out of paying full price for the CRAP they did to her hair but they wouldn't relent. (I would have walked out if it were me). My mom was an emotional mess and just wanted to get out of that hell hole and gave Racelly (the owner) the money. My mom hair is now dry as a bone, brittle, green in some light and her curls are not the same. Oh, did I mention that she walked out of there at 8pm?? A wopping 8 hours....of pain, agony and torture they put my mom through!! Never asking once if she wanted so much as a water to drink. When my mom did ask for a water - they chareged her $1 for it. Smh. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone nor will anyone from my family ever return to this SALON OF HORRORS!!! !!!DO NOT GO HERE!!! read more

If I could give her zero stars I would. If you have curly hair and love it don't go here! I went April of 2013 and a year later my hair is still different. I'm a licensed cosmetologist. I just wanted a simple blowout. When I get there she tells me my hair is dry and suggest a treatment. Sure! I'm all for a treatment. My hair wasn't dry, it just looked a little crazy cause after a few days of not washing curls and just throwing it up, it looks intimidating. She put a chemical in my hair! At the sink. My guess it was perm solution? It didn't smell harsh and she only left it on for a few minuets. When I washed my hair a week later it smelled horrible, like burnt hair or like a chemical was on my hair. It didn't curl at all, it felt like mush, it's like she put a relaxer in it. Yes, a year later, I'm still bitter cause I LOVE my curls and I told her this. She was just trying to make up job easy. I, and everyone else, can see the difference between my new growth and the hair she ruined. read more

I LOVE THIS PLACE! No appointments, just have to wait, sometimes it could take up to a 2 hour wait. But it's so worth it. I usually get a wash, cut, blowdry. Racely does the best blow out and I feel so magical when she's finished. Bianca is also really good. Highly recommended! I now live in California, and I can't find anything as good. This was a great place with reasonable cost ($150-$250), but after the owner left this is over expensive place ($400-$500) and they dont say the cost before starting the hair color, would suggest them to share the price before they start so people know what to expect with the new staff. This was my first time at a Dominican salon and I was happy with the results of my hair. The salon opened 15 minutes late so I was a little annoyed. Once open I checked out the salon. It was clean and well maintained. So really no appointments just sign in and get the next girl available. I got a great wash, roller set and blow dry. I left out really happy with how my hair felt and turned out. The price was right as well. Pros: fast and efficient, nice girls, great work. Cons: opening late, no real choice in who does my hair, if you go later in day it can take hours for you to get done. All in go and get your hair done here. read more

I went last month for hair makeover. The lady who did my makeover was kind and smiling and good. And did great job. I was very happy with my hair. today i went for hair spa and i didnt know that it only was washing and letting you out with wet hair. Luckily it was unny warm day and i stay very close. :) They did a great job with hair and are reasonable priced. They are not very polite bunch ... or i dont know if they donno english. They keep singing loudly or conversing with each other. yeah they are very crowded beacuse they are good at work and cheap. i would continue going here.. coz i havent really met really polite gentle people in this city. comparitively these people are much better. read more

Made an appointment for 1pm with the owner, Racelly. Showed up at 12 pm and waited two hours for her to tell me she was too busy and passed me on to someone else. This other stylist cut my hair too short when i only wanted my ends cut. Wanted brown highlights, ended up with blonde hair. The stylist burned my scalp, still recovering three weeks later. Came for a wash cut and blow out, which sounds simple. Walked in at 730am, walked out at 2pm on a Friday. That's only because I had a wedding to go to and I started complaining. Seriously how unprofessional can you get. Each step was like an hour wait while she took someone else. The cut was good, blow out was great. Price was normal around 50. Despite the good blow out, I will NOT go back to wait 6 hours. Cant even offer water?! That's really ridiculous they think it's okay to treat paying customers like that. Been here twice. Definitely the best salon i have found in this area for blowouts. lasts me for days! When you arrive you put your name on a list and they take the next person. First time i didnt have much of a wait, second time i had to wait over an hour!! But it was worth the wait. I get a wash, roller set and blow dry. I paid $30, people with shoulder length hair pay $25. Customer service, not rude but not friendly either so not sure how to rate that. I originally called for a price quote. They told me I had to come in for a quote and so they can see my hair. Went down there.. Parking is a hassle and it was located in a very sketchy part of Jersey City but I was willing to sacrifice for the right price. I have been going to Brooklyn for years and paying $45 for a relaxer. I have gone to many salons and never have I been taken advantage of as I did today. After my hair was done (wash, rollers, and blow) she asked me how much I usually pay for my hair. The last time I was there I paid $25 that was 11 months ago and I told her this, she then asked another chick how much she should charge. The other chick started asking if u had a lot of hair etc. My hair is about an inch below the top of my shoulders and very easy to do. They decided $40 was an acceptable payment for an hr of pretty much me sitting under a dryer. For this crap I could've gone to my usual spot in Hoboken where it's $50 when my hair was down to my mid back and I would've had wine served and been around people who speak english. Walked into this salon at 3:00pm, walking out at 6:00 pm without having anything done. Nobody greets you as you walk in, they have a book to sign your name then you sit down. Finally 30 minutes later someone asked me what I wanted. 3 hours later still haven't been seen, nobody spoke to me they pretended I wasn't waiting there 3 hours while they took people who came in after me before me. I got my extensions done here by a young lady. I had the brazilian style done. She was quick but yet so patient taking care of every individual hair. I also got a Collagen hair mask that made my hair so shiny. I was extremely happy and will go back every time I need my extensions done. Since I was there for a while I was also served dinner and coffee talk about first class service! Love it my hair looks wonderful and you cannot even tell I have extensions! read more

came for the first time to the Clifton location. the salon has a new, beautiful décor, the atmosphere is really laid back, I even got offered a mimosa! While I was getting a haircut, there were to other women from PA and Upstate NY - only shows the girls in the salon don't play! they know what they're doing Racelly herself is a sweetheart, really nice and helpful. her prices are really reasonable. The Clifton location takes appointments which is a good thing because who likes waiting. But I heard the JC location is first come first serve. which is a bummer. But, I have to say at first I was nervous about going to this Dominican hair spot since it's across town and quite bits away from my soon to be old condo that I'm moving from and my hair spot does not open til later on in the day. But let me tell you I'm happy I made it my way t give this place a try. The girl I think her name was francesca not sure but you can't miss her when you walk in petite young girl with curly hair in the front of the salon. She takes her time and really listens. She really added volume to my hair without me repeating myself. She took her time and totally make me a sick hair do for $25 which is like half the price of everywhere else I would go to. I'm very picky and litterly really spoiled and have to say totally worth going in this area to see this lady. The other stylist I would say do good hair but I don't speak Spanish and don't think I would have mixed good with them as I said I'm really snobby with my hair and don't want to be yelled at as I'm repeating what I want... Lol there technique with the rollers and then blow dry will maximize the best hair do. Everyone that walks out has an amazing shine in there hair and a great hair do. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND THIS PLACE!!! THEY TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOU. the first time I went here a very young girl did my hair and it came out BEAUTIFUL. I got a teal color... So when the color faded I decided to go back. The first time I got my hair done they charged me $100 and I had a lot of hair. This time they gave me a different girl and I told her exactly what I wanted the exact same way I told the other lady and instead of giving me teal she gave me bright green! And she charged me $150 I told her that this wasn't what I wanted and she was very understanding and said that if I wanted it fixed that I'd have to pay $20 extra. $20 DOLLARS EXTRA FOR THEIR MISTAKE. After the green faded I went back and decided I wanted a light brown color... Oh boy that was a mistake. I was in there for 9 hours and they slapped bleach after bleach after bleach on my hear and put me under dryer after dryer. They're the reason for my damaged hair. Once I was done in had this nasty brown geen diarrhea color. And they had the audacity to charge me $200! I tried arguing with them but that did no good. My mom went to get her hair done 2 weeks after me and she asked to keep her light brown hair and just add some blonde highlights. The girl didn't even know what she was doing. She kept asking the other lady next to her if what she was doing was correct!! She bleached my mother's hair and she came out with yellow roots and orange in the middle with platinum blonde at the ends. They tried to charge her $250 and my mom told them " why is it so much? This isn't what I asked for" and the lady told her it was because they used this special deep conditioner.... my mom didn't ask for that treatment. So my mom argued with them and dropped the price to $200. Then when she spoke to the owner and told her that she didn't get the color she wanted. The owner told her she'd fix it for $50. Horrible !! I will never step foot in this place again nor would I recommend it to anyone! First off I call to find out the price points and methods they use for extensions. I sent the hair stylist a picture of my hair she told me I would need to purchase two packs of hair and if I wanted a braid less sew in the price was $25 per line. Fine. I mentioned to her that I would rather have the extensions with the clips so I could remove and reuse them as I pleased. She first tells me okay but that I must be absolutely sure I'm going to come in and get it done because she has to sew the clips on. The following day when I'm there she tells me it doesn't come with clips and she can only do it as a brainless sew in or Brazilian sew in. Which is bullshit she was just LAZY and wanted extra money $$$$$ so I paid 165 per package of hair which she only ended up using one pack of. I arrived there at 10 am and left at 630 pm in between all this time she did other ladies hair as well as taking a lunch break and not even offering me a cup of water( great customer service huh) and the only reason I was out by 630 was because it was my birthday and I told her I absolutely had to leave because I had a dinner I had to go to. She did not finish cutting or styling the hair ! She charged me for 7 lines at 25$ . I paid and ran out only to realize she only did 6. I was hopeful after seeing ladies come out the salon looking nice, but my experience was horrible. First off, this place is geared more toward locals for hairdos and NOT HAIR CUT. For new customers, they will not greet you and make you wait 2 hrs. My girl with the big curly afro knew English but did not care to understand what I wanted and did not even cut close to the photos I showed her. Then she had the audacity to say that the hair will look better after a wash and a blow dry. She washed my hair without conditioning and gave a pathetic blow dry that clearly show the mistake. I was too tired to get her to fix my hair and I know she was too unskilled to know how to cut hair and too unprofessional to try to make her customer happy. $45 for the worst hair cut of my life! The first time I went to this salon it was to lighten my hair basically from a honey blonde to a medium blonde ... It turned out a whole shade lighter than what I asked for and after a couple of days my hair started turning green around my bangs.. I hadn't done anything to my hair at all I didn't add products since I had left the salon so I knew it had to have been something they did. Regardless for a dye job my hair felt very healthy .. After a few months I went jet black and now I visit often just for a wash and set. The wait time is longgggg and sometimes they even forget about you if you don't ask when you'll be attended but they do a great blow out my hair looks so healthy and my hair has actually grown since I've started doing regular visits (every two weeks) I no longer use my flat iron as I did before because the previews salons I had visited would leave my hair frizzy but Racelly's salon does a great job. Only thing is the excruciating wait time it's very annoying but I love that they do open very early. read more

My first time in this lovely place was in 2013 when I moved to Jersey City. I now live back in Brooklyn and still drive here to get my hair done. These ladies are the best at what they do!!! I love all of them and you can trust them all with your hair. The owner is a total sweetheart and extremely humble. don't come here if you are looking for something fancy. it's a no-frills kind of place, but totally worth it. the blowouts are great and the staff is serious about their work. if you've not had a Dominican-style blowout, try it and you won't go back. they use the least heat possible by setting you with rollers first, then blowing it out, so the flatiron and other heat can mostly be avoided. it lasts FOREVER and looks very healthy. I wouldn't go here for color, I wanted a dark brown and they left it on so long that I ended up with black. it turned out that I liked the black for a change, so not a big deal to me, but if you are particular about your color, I would be careful. the haircuts are also just fine, i'd go for a trim but probably not to change my style because I didn't love the way my hair was layered one time i went a little further than just a trim. go for the wash, trim, roller set/blowout, it's cheap and you'll feel fabulous. read more

I would definitely not give Racelly's any stars because they are so unprofessional. Where should I start my experience at Racelly's was horrible, I showed her a picture of the color that I wanted and asked her specifically if she would be able to get that color and also showed her a picture of the highlights that I wanted and she agreed. The color that she dyed my hair was no where close to what I showed her, the highlights were faded not what I asked for. My hair looked like I had it done a month or two months ago not today. The products that they use are not good because she burned my scalp and my hair she kept applying the dye to switch the color from orange to white but it was gray in the end. She overcharges too she claims horizontal highlights are a lot and the highlights that I have are thin gray faded strands. Definitely not what I asked for I feel like I paid for nothing money went down the drain but my hair and scalp are damaged. I would pay for quality work if I received quality work, what I wanted not two colors that look faded and not luxurious at all. If I asked you can you get that color you should be able to, hair cannot be fixed easily. I will never go there again, very upset, disgusting and garbage work. read more
