I had an awful experience June 14 2017 at this salon walk in at 2pm showed them a picture from their Instagram I wanted to get done to my hair and she turn my hair into copper penny color when I wanted an auburn base at the roots with dirty blonde highlights I cried and the girl who did my hair started talking about me in Spanish I refused to pay and ask for the owner another girl tried to fix it but long story short it looks nothing like what I wanted

This is the first time I post pictures to a Yelp review so I hope I did it correctly. I just want you to fully understand the reason for such a horrible review. The ONLY reason why I am giving this place 1 star is because I am not able to give it any negative zero ratings. I am writing this review on behalf of my mom - who does not have nor does she know how to post reviews on Yelp. So here it is... My mother walked into Racelly's Hair Studio on the 23rd of December with the hopes of coming out looking and feeling like a brand new woman just in time for the holidays. What she got instead was a full head of damaged hair, swollen eyes from crying so much and $145 dollars less than when she walked in. Oh, did I mention SCABS all over her scalp?! Yea.... Before sitting in the chair my mother asked Marleny if what she was asking for (Ombre - Brown at the roots fading into dirty blond) was possible and even showed her pictures of what she wanted done. Marleny said to her, with all assurance and confidence, that it was indeed possible. So with that...my mom sat in the chair and leaves her beautiful black curly hair in the hands of what she thought was a "professional". Little did my poor mom know that this was going to be her worst nightmare. Let's just take a quick note of the time that she walked in which was at 11:40am. Marleny then proceeds to work on her hair. My sister was also there but only for a wash & blow. As my mom is sitting in the chair for way longer than she expected with product in her hair (bleach) starts feeling a burning sensation on her scalp. It starts getting worse. So much so, that my mom is now covering her face with a towel so that the other customers are not looking at her. That didn't really help much because they already saw that my mom was in agony from the bleach that was BURNING HOLES IN HER SCALP! When dear old Marleny finally decides to wash the bleach out. My mom takes one look in the mirror - she is in shock. Not the good kind either. Marleny then proceeds to start blow drying my moms hair as if that blonde/orange hair was what she asked for. My mom then asks if she is going to add another color to it and she tells her no...that was it. My mother demands that she add a color to her hair because she is not walking out of the salon with orange hair. So at this point the ombre that my mom originally wanted is down the drain. She is balling her eyes out crying. They gave her an explanation that she would have to come back for another sitting in order to get the ombre affect. Something that they did not mention at the very beginning before my mom sat down in the chair. Plus, something that is not true because I had the same exact thing done to my hair (obviously not there but at a true professional salon) and I too have black hair...and it was done in one sitting. Perfectly. After this new color that my mom had to pick out (brown/ash) was applied and still didn't come out the right color was all done....they had the audacity to try and charge my mom FULL PRICE for the HORRID service and DAMAGE they caused to her hair and scalp. My mother tried arguing her way out of paying full price for the CRAP they did to her hair but they wouldn't relent. (I would have walked out if it were me). My mom was an emotional mess and just wanted to get out of that hell hole and gave Racelly (the owner) the money. My mom hair is now dry as a bone, brittle, green in some light and her curls are not the same. Oh, did I mention that she walked out of there at 8pm?? A wopping 8 hours....of pain, agony and torture they put my mom through!! Never asking once if she wanted so much as a water to drink. When my mom did ask for a water - they chareged her $1 for it. Smh. I would NOT recommend this place to anyone nor will anyone from my family ever return to this SALON OF HORRORS!!! !!!DO NOT GO HERE!!!

Perfectly straightened hair! $25 and done in 30 minutes. Lasted a long time too.

Well worth the wait, the only salon I know that does rollers before a blowout. Quality hair products used.

I have long hair that can be anywhere from wavy to just downright messy curls, it's changed over the years. Molly has always made sure to give me the cut that would flatter it most if it air-dried or blow dried myself, not just when it was professionally blown out leaving the salon. I tell her how I usually would do it and she makes sure that the cut works best for that. She has always given me honest opinions or when I thought about coloring it or doing a gloss. I loved that she didn't push me at all for any sort of color even though it would obviously be much more expensive. Before Salon Gatto, over the years, I've gone to other salons closer to home or near work when I was in a pinch or I've seen other hair stylists at Salon Gatto before I found Molly, (I'm sorry but I can't remember any names!) They were always wonderful and I definitely left happy but Molly is my favorite. She is great at her job, not overly talkative (this is a time to RELAX for me) and sweet and is honest. Am I fangirling?? Probably. They have two locations and just opened a whole new second floor at their original location by the Path train, so I love to see them growing and growing!! Other little great things about Salon Gatto: -they have a lovely drink menu that they bring you out right away, which makes visits here feel even more like a treat. -they hair wash is thorough and they will almost always include a really nice head massage. Only great things to say. Book an appointment if you need a new salon!

I've been debating on leaving this review since most of my experience of coming to this salon for…read morethe last 6 years has been nothing but great. The salon itself is super cute painted in hot pink, Dolly Parton themed and just overall welcoming. I've been loyally seeing Collie for haircuts since she's a genius when it comes cutting thick hair. Unfortunately, Collie has moved to another state and upon setting an appointment with the front desk, they set me up with Anatalie. The salon asks for clients to fill out a form prior to the appointment in which one of the questions asks for an inspo pic (see below). I also want to note it takes me an hour to commute to downtown jersey from Brooklyn where I live now. The salon is empty and it's just me and Anatalie. She informs me that most of the stylist are gone summer Fridays and that she's covering for some of them. During our conversation, I find out that she's actually the owner of the salon and that she's not usually behind the chair. We have a great conversation, she's very down to earth, very likable, and very easy to talk to. I showed her the inspo pic before she started cutting, and I also told her that I included it in the form. Im requesting for a long shag with a 2 inch trim for any split ends. At this point, it's almost over two hours that I've been sitting in her chair and now she's rushing to finish the trim post blow dry because her last client is waiting. I think we've all been there where we're sitting in the chair and we see ourselves in the mirror and it's not looking like the inspo pic but we're hoping its because it's not styled how you would do it at home. At this point, I'm not trying to be negative but Anatalie tells me that "if I see anything that looks off or needs to be trimmed more, to call in for another appointment" to which is a alarming especially since she knows that I don't live nearby. When I get home, I brush my fingers through my hair and I feel that the ends of my hair were absolutely not debulked. It looks like a block of hair straight across. My layers were completely uneven; one side of my hair was thinned out way more than the other side. My right curtain bang was cut in too deep so it goes past my ear. She also cut much more than the 2 inches I requested. I texted the next day to see if I can get another stylist to fix it since it doesn't seem like she is familiar with cutting thick hair or possibly it's been too long since she's been behind the chair. I was told that it has to be her as there are no refunds offered. I paid about $165 with tip total. I did go to another salon and paid over $100 to get it fixed but the length of my hair was compromised and there are areas like my curtain bangs that can't be fixed since hair is missing. I wish Anatalie was straightforward and could've told me that a shag is out of her expertise and that if I come back another day, someone else could've attended me. And although a refund isn't going to grow my hair out, it would've been nice to have that to cover going to another salon.
