Rachel's beauty is one of the best places to get a facial in Boston! The one thing to note about this place is that it's a hidden gem. It's tucked away on the second floor of the building and it's a no frills. You will get a high quality facial, but this isn't like your typical high end spa place. Also, the estheticians are more comfortable speaking Chinese, but you can still have a good experience with patience. I usually come here and get the acne facial with an add-on which is usually 75-90 minutes. The facial comes with cleansing, extractions, brow touch up, mask, neck & head massage, and an LED section at the end. There are times when they will leave you in the room while your mask is setting or the LED light is on, but I don't mind it. You also get all of this for a very good price. I've been coming here for the past 5 months and my experience with Rachel and team have been great! They're always super careful and let me know what they're doing at each step. I was forced to come here because my wife loves this place and she kept telling me how bad my skin is. Rachel is very nice and accommodating, complimenting that my skin was pretty good for someone who doesn't spend hundreds of dollars taking care of it. I was not expecting that kind of compliment since my wife tells me I have disgusting, oily skin. Now I have beautiful, taut, shiny skin, so maybe my wife will kiss again! Rachel uses a lot of fancy machines apparently, which I was surprised by, since her place looks like a hole in the wall. She clearly cares about service and quality of treatments she provides, not the aesthetic of what her place looks like from the outside. You can immediately tell as soon as you walk in (if you can find the place!). The price point is also really good value, and this is coming from a guy who doesn't spend anything on this kind of stuff. I could not possibly hold Rachel and her business in a higher regard. Rachel is professional, talented, and reliable. I started going to her 2 years ago and my skin is truly transformed. I went from a "contour makeup daily" person to a "doesn't own foundation" person because of Rachel. Xue Feng transforms my skin (I know Rachel gets a lot of reviews here but Xue really deserves a shoutout for her 10+ years of experience and how gentle she is with my skin). She's so skilled with deep pore cleaning and an expert in diagnosing what your skin needs (hydration, microdermabrasion, extraction, etc). The salon has a variety of high quality products that is tailored to your needs each time, so each facial might be a little different. The experience here is super relaxing and effective, and I always leave with glowing skin. I highly recommend purchasing a 5 or 10 pack (your skin will seriously thank you!) plus you can save on add-on procedures (ie light therapy, microdermabrasion, etc.). read more

First, I want to say Rachel and the girls there is very professional and caring for their clients. The place is small but VERY clean and relaxing. So never judge a book by its cover ;)) Its COVID time but I never doubt to come here during this time. They very invested in the high tech facial tools and machines. My first impression here is the place is pretty small. HOWEVER, EVERYTHING ELSE IS GREAT. Very good and friendly service. And the skill is great, too. I tried the acne skin treatment because I have a lot of underskin acnes and she did it very carefully. A lot of reviews cover it all, but just wanted to add my two cents about how awesome Rachel is at her job. Came here for milia on my face and she has helped me resolved a lifelong issue within a matter of months. Even my dermatologist couldn't help me as well as Rachel and her team has. I used to have ton of milia around my nose (thanks genetics), but now it's only one or two. She is really detail oriented and an expert at her craft. You shouldn't expect a "spa like" experience, but given that your eyes are closed most of the time - I'm totally ok with this. Parking in Chinatown is always painful, but given the price point that Rachel is at, I am willing to just pay for the garages in the area if I am not lucky enough to find a spot. I was so impressed wIth my first facial that I bought a five pack... which equals out to about $35/per facial... a steal! My younger sister is a regular at this salon and she recommended this place to me. I purchased the facial package after the first try. It is only $47 for an hour of facial treatment, meaning I can easily come here twice a month. I started visiting from before my pregnancy and have continued since, meaning it's been almost a year now. I have tried so many different salons in Massachusetts ranging from standard to high end places and couldn't find a good, consistent one until now. Rachel Beauty is the best place because I have confidence in what she is doing. I have recommended this place to all my friends as well. The service is actually better than a lot of high end salon that I have tried in Boston. The price point for services here is fair, especially considering the quality and treatment given. This place also has all the equipment for the more intensive facial treatments. They primarily use products that are made from France, Germany and Canada. This was important to me because with my sensitive skin I usually get really bad reactions 90% of the time when I get a facial. I also always request for Rachel to do my facial. She is the owner who is really nice and actually cares about her customers. She always recommends what is best for me, not what is most expensive. Let me start by saying that I've dealt with acne for the last nine years, and one of my wishes is to once again have a clear skin. I started getting acne facials when I lived in Philly, but two years ago I moved to Portland, ME, and had to find another place where I can get facials regularly without breaking my wallet. I first tried Coco Beauty, also in Boston Chinatown, but I didn't like how pushy they were trying to get me to buy products which didn't even have any effect on my skin. So I turned to Yelp to locate another affordable facial joint and found Rachel Beauty, and I've been a regular for over a year. Rachel Beauty is located on the second floor of a building that can be hard to miss if you don't pay attention. There are two doors: one on Kneeland, and another one on Tyler. You go up the stairs, and there are a few other businesses on the second floor, but the door is clearly marked "Rachel Beauty." There's a restroom in the building, but you need to borrow the key and a roll of toilet paper from Rachel, so it's not ideal. There are three rooms inside Rachel Beauty, and most of the time I get my facial in the main room that has two facial beds. This means that you may be sharing a room with someone else. This is not a deal breaker to me because if there's a person in the room before you came, the person has her eyes closed and can't see you, and if someone comes in after you, you'll have your eyes closed as well. There are three women working here; Ah Feng usually does my facial, but I've had facials with Rachel and the other aesthetician when Ah Feng is busy or is on vacation. Rachel speaks English but the other two don't speak English as well, so if you don't speak Mandarin or Cantonese, you may need to book an appointment a few days in advance to make sure Rachel is available. Onto the facial itself. I've been buying packages of five acne facials for $205, and at $41 per 90-minute facial this price is simply unbeatable. There may be slight variations in the steps depending on individual needs, but they usually start by cleansing my face and using steam to open up my pores. Because my skin has gotten a lot better recently, I also get microdermabrasion, which is not good if you still have a lot of active acnes. Next, they trim and shape my eyebrows (love this complimentary service; it saves me eyebrow wax money) and then the painful part of picking my pores starts. Note that they are very thorough and take their time, but there are two things I don't really like here besides the pain: the super bright light and the steam blocking my nostrils. They cover my eyes with something, but often it's still way too bright for my eyes. After this, they put some lotion or serum on my face, use some tool with scary electric sound that's supposed to help reduce inflammation (it may sting a little, but it doesn't hurt), and then put a cooling mask to calm my skin down. While the mask is working its magic, you get a mini shoulder and scalp massage (another complimentary service I love). As I've mentioned above, my skin has gotten better recently, but I don't know if I can attribute this 100% to facials. I think it's a combination of getting facials regularly every month and having a daily skin regimen that works. But I do think the facials at Rachel Beauty help to purge impurities that still form even with the best regimen. TL; DR: You're not paying for a fancy location with spacious private rooms and trendy interior here; you're paying for the facial itself. read more

I got an acne breakout so my friend recommend me to come here to try the salon's facial treatment. The salon located in a building in Chinatown and you need a code to get in. All staffs here wore mask and they said they following the covid-19 guidelines of the state. The technician who do the facial for me had a good massage skill so I fell as sleep in the middle of the treatment. They did not take the hidden acne so the treatment only help a little bit with my breakout. However I felt relax and really enjoy the time so it was still 5* to me. read more

This is the worst place for getting a facial! I moved from Germany to Boston and was looking for a nice studio which isn't so expensive. But this expierence was really horrible!! The towels are not clean, the treatment was awful and the rooms are really not comfortable. The woman talked to the other woman during the treatment all the time, and she didn't wear hand gloves!! Rachel diligently work on your skin, extracting, putting masks and oil... it's a full hour session. The first time I came, I just wanted a simple facial but was so pleasantly surprised about the service that I ended up buying a package. On top of that, I recommended a friend who also ended up getting a package, I got a free session in addition to my package! AMAZING. This review is long overdue. I went to Rachel on a regular basis when I lived in Boston and now that I've moved to the west coast I'm having a really hard time finding someone as amazing as she was. The location and ambiance are no frills. It's not a fancy spa with cucumber water and hot stones everywhere. It's for people who want/need regular maintenance by professionals who understand how to treat various skin types and issues. If you go and realize that you need more of the frills and this is not the place for you, the $30/40 cost won't leave you regretting your decision (compared to my recent $140 splurge at a "high-end" salon with plenty of cucumber water and hot stones but left my face itchy and peeling). I would highly recommend trying this place out. I bought the 5 or 10-pack special which put me at ~$30 per visit - an unbeatable price for a 2-hour treatment: cleansing, extractions, head/neck/shoulder massage, cooling masque, eyebrow shaping, and a "wild card" treatment depending on the situation. Every time I visited, Rachel would assess the condition of my skin and based on its dryness/oiliness (which often changed with the crazy Boston weather), give me a treatment that made sense. For example if my skin were extra oily, she would skip the face massage that would make the skin produce more oil and spend more time on extractions or another acne-targeting treatment. I really appreciated that Rachel actually put thought into the treatments she gave and worked tediously throughout - she never took shortcuts and tried her hardest to get every blackhead out! Bottom line, my skin was smooth and healthy throughout the summer humidity and winter tundras of Boston thanks to Rachel. I called day of and the lady who answered the phone was willing to take me at 7pm even tho they technically close at 7pm. I was told that they open later during the summer if they have enough interest - so it doesn't hurt to call and ask peeps! The lady who did my facial was very nice and did a great job. The steam and cleansing was relaxing. The extractions were fine - I had some pretty deep ones that weren't quite ready yet (her words) so she gave me these acne stickers to put on. THEY WERE AMAZING (go on amazon and look them up) and cleared up the spots very quickly. Also, I was seriously asleep when she did my massage. Overall, I would definitely recommend this place. I've been coming to Rachel's Beauty regularly for a few years and am a loyal customer. She and her staff bring such attentive care to their customers. The same 3 women have been working there the entire I've been going and are a nice team together. They chat together and have a great time while working which brings a nice atmosphere to the salon. In response to folks who left negative reviews below, if you're not familiar with a Chinatown facial, you should know that it's different from a luxury Newbury street facial but in my opinion that makes it even better. Instead of having ostentatious decor and pretentious staff, you get real people in a simple, clean, friendly environment. Rachel and her staff feel like friends now and greet my friends and I have with warm, welcoming smiles and greetings every time we arrive. They remember details of our personal and family life and always sweetly ask about them. Finally, I can't leave a review without mentioning the incredible price. If you buy a package, the price of a facial comes down to about $35 for an hour and a half facial which includes a lengthy massage of face, shoulders, upper back and scalp. Wearing a mask during COVID has caused havoc on my skin - constant breakouts, skin discoloration, patchiness, dryness, you name it. In desperation, I made an appointment at Rachel Beauty Salon hoping they could help the mess on my face. Once I got there, Fung both looked over my skin and determined what treatment would be the best for me. After over an hour of cleaning, extracting, moisturizing, hydrating, and massaging, my skin felt clean and renewed. All the horrible dead skin was gone and my skin could finally breathe. I know this COVID pandemic is going to last through the rest of this year and know that I'll need to go back several more times to make sure my skin doesn't go back to being the mess it has been for so long. I have a tumultuous relationship with my skin so I have regularly seen aestheticians for years. Moving to Boston I had to find a new one. I found one on Newbury Street that had great reviews and tried that for a few months but the price, service, and results were poor. For example, as I like to get my eyebrows done during facials, I usually came home to uneven eyebrows (I drew the line when one time one brow looked like a sperm!). By sheer luck I found Rachel Beauty. First, Rachel and her team are quite gracious to take in walk-ins or working with your schedule. The place is a complete hole in the wall in Chinatown but do not let that deter you. There are a few Chinese ladies that work there but it is my impression that Rachel is the only one who speaks English well. Regardless, all of them know what they're doing. I usually get the acne facial. It starts with cleansing of the face and usually while they open up your pores with steam they will clean up your eyebrows. Then the most painful part of the experience happens: the extractions. I have never enjoyed these but they do them so well that my face feels so much cleaner afterwards so I don't mind the pain. If you've never had this type of facial before you might want to take ibuprofen for pain relief and anti-inflammatory because the more acne you have, the more you will look like you have chickenpox when you walk out. Then, depending on the severity of your acne, they may/may not use light therapy as they cool your face with different products. Finally, the session ends with a cool mask and a head and shoulder massage. People new to facials don't realize that usually your skin will look worse immediately after the facial because the "gunk" under your skin is being stimulated to rise to the surface. However, iit gets better in days. And with continued, regular sessions (not that impossible because Rachel Beauty offers packages that fit a student budget!) and good products for at-home regimen, I stayed clear amidst all the stresses from school. I'm quite pleased to have found this place and will definitely miss it when I graduate. read more

I have been going to Rachel's every couple of months and it's well worth the visit! I had learned about this spa from a coworker who is a frequent client. It does not look like your typical facial spa but the treatment is amazing. You can get either a collagen, bio marine, or regular facial depending on your needs (usually I get the regular which costs 48 dollars which is a bargain in the facial world!) and you get a great massage, high frequency, extraction, and lastly cold molding mask in one visit.
