Great service, diverse menu with excellent featured specials everytime we come in. We have cottage 15 mi away so regularly come here in the summer and are never disappointed. My go- to on the regular menu is the shrimp salad- the lemon vinaigrette is amazing. Lovely little spot in bad axe. I was kind of surprised by the type of food based on the name "bar and grill" as they have more elevated bistro fare at a higher price point than I think of for a bar. The place is clean and well decorated. Server was nice. We ordered two of their bowl options one of the chicken teriyaki and a shrimp. Took quite a while to come out for a Monday at lunch but I think they may have just had one cook. Was worth the wait though, very yummy and good portion. The best restaurant in the state of Michigan bar none. The waitstaff and owner are all A + in my humble opinion. The French Onion Soup is the best, they have the best Margaritas ever and the burgers are to die for. Please, don't stop at Flint, Detroit or any tourist spots along the way. Make it quick to Rachel's before you get lost in the snow and black ice on the cold Michigan highway. Been here twice. I understand why this place is popular in bad axe, interior is cozy. Dress code is casual. Service on both occasions showed that they rotate tables quickly. First time here I had the teriyaki chicken. The description mentioned it was marinated in teriyaki. It was drizzled on the chicken over rice, not marinated, which was moderately disappointing as the marinade would have added to the tenderness of the chicken, a certain level of umami, and really been a "flavor bomb" to the whole dish. I also thought the pairing of Brussels sprouts was unconventional. We ended up coming back, to give this place a second try, and I was able to capture photos. I got the broasted mushrooms which were pretty good, I was surprised as to how much flavor was captured in each bite. Though I recommend eating them quickly as the amount of water that was retained ended up making them soggy after 5-7 minutes. For the entree, I got the prime rib that was written on the "specials" board. It is hard to mess up a good piece of meat. Flavor was enhanced with mushrooms and onions, though I was dissatisfied with the plating. As you can see here, it was sitting in a pool of the juices from the meat. At a traditional steak house it would be sitting on a dry plate, and the juices "Au Jus" would be in a cup on the side. The reason this is important is so the integrity of the sides wouldn't be waterlogged. The experience of the food the second time showed me why this place can get busy. read more

I had the steak fajitas on Taco Tuesday. Very disappointed in the portion sizes. Very few pieces of steak. I also had a small spoonful of refried beans. The amount of grated cheese was a joke. Our meal at Rachel's was truly a delight. The weather was beautiful so we sat outside but under the shade - what a thoughtful setup they have! Enjoyed the heat and the breeze but never any direct sun, and it was so nice to be outside next to all the flowers and greenery. As far as the meal goes: each dish was delicious! I think my personal favorite was the salmon chowder, but I'm a big soup girl at heart. Special shout out to our waitress who was an absolute dream, was so patient with us (we were indecisive as everything sounded so good) and provided awesome recommendations. Extra bonus: the drink menu here is INSANE GOOD. They make syrups in-house and don't use mixes (so that margarita is from scratch). Rachel's offers simply the BEST food. Not simply the best in a small town, Rachel's is a destination. We've tried a variety of dishes - the Salmon Chowder is my wife's favorite, the bowls (think power bowl) are amazing, the chicken dishes truly exceptional. Taco Tuesday's are a treat, the loaded fries are decadent (piled with real cheese), and the sangria specials are, well, try them! This restaurant is featured in the film "Bad Axe" (Hulu) which tells the amazing and heartwarming story of the family that owns and runs the restaurant. The film (imho) captures the essence of what sets Rachel's apart, the people. Truly inspirational... hopeful in a time we need hope. read more

Great little spot! Stoped here on our way north for lunch and had some great food and service. We were seated quickly and food came in a timely manner. Our sever (regretfully didn't get her name) was very sweet and attentive. We ordered a bowl of their salmon chowder to share and she filled it to the brim and served it with 2 spoons without having to ask. Chowder was very good, think thick tomato soup with a twist. Top notch! We loved the servers. We loved the food. We seriously thought Rachel's served us the best food we've had in a long time! At least a week. That Salmon Chowder was on point! The Cajun Shrimp pasta was excellent per one in our party. Rick's entertainment was awesome!! The Mango Salmon was super, served with Brussels Sprouts and Jasmine Rice. The Signature Salmon with coconut cream sauce was outstanding. The staff ... We couldn't believe how much they rocked all the tables, bright it home with great service. I ordered a salad entree which was brought to my table promptly, it arrived with no bread, I asked the waitress if I could get a slice of toast to accompany the salad. The waitress said yes and in a few minutes brought a square slice of white sandwich bread which was toasted. When the bill was presented it listed the salad and beverage as cost as well as a $4.00 charge for the toast. The salad was delicious, the toast was astoundingly overpriced l.
