My dog looks better than in. years, And my dog, Elsa definitly likes Rachel. A dog friendly shop, not a big place with cages in the back to intimidate my dog. Elsa could see and hear everything that was going on. And Rachel's friendly dogs were there to confirm that Rachel truly values her dogs. Been seeing Rachel for years. She's been our go to groomer for 3 dogs. She's very kind and knowledgeable.

I am not sure if she was having an off day or what was going on, but the owner of the shop was very rude to my Mom when she came to pick up her Dog. She spoke to my Mom so rudely and told her she was not allowed to bring our dog back because he barked the entire time. She proceeded to tell my Mom that she needed to stop "babying the dog" and told her that he was a dog, not a baby. She continued to talk down to my Mom and criticizing everything. She crossed so many lines. My Mom left feeling very shaken by this experience as she doesn't "baby him" and she is very aware that our dog is a dog. When I heard about this situation happening I was just heartbroken and so confused. Our Dog doesn't act scared or unsettled if he is made to feel safe and welcomed. He is a very good dog and still a puppy and is learning. Bottom line is that she could have been nicer and treated my Mom with respect and dignity. I truly feel so sad about this situation and I do not think anyone has any right to treat anyone the way the owner treated my mom. Very disappointed read more

I've taken my dogs to Rachel for over 15 years and have never been disappointed. She did my GSD nails, my Border Collie full groom, my Aussie mix full groom and my Rough Collie's nails. She is wonderful with dogs and I would still be going there but she can't do big dogs anymore. My dogs were always happy to see her. I don't understand or believe the negative reviews. I have had Scottish Terriers for nearly 20 years. I have been to several groomers but hands downs, Rachel at Rachel's Happy Tails truly understands the breed. Rachel listens to my concerns and requests. One of my Scotties wasn't very social, she knew just what to do; handling him with care and professionalism. Maybe a bad day, but we will never come back again, in spite of having used Rachel for 4 years. My daughter tried to help me out by taking in my 2 dogs for nail trims and baths since my hubby is having cancer treatments every weekday and I am struggling to keep up with everything. She called the day before to make an appointment and was told to come about 10 on Saturday. When asked about the dogs, my daughter said they were both rescues and she wasn't sure of the breeds, but they were both small. Rachel was rude and dismissive, "educating" my daughter that one dog was a Jack Russell and the other was chi-terrier mix, and she didn't understand why my daughter couldn't have just told her that. Bottom line...she did fine with my JRT who does well with the Dremel, but the chi-terrier freaks at the sound. Rachel grabbed the little guy by the throat and threw him up against my daughter's chest and said "Hold him like you mean it!" My daughter arrived back at my house with blood all over her from the chi/terrier since Rachel cut way back past the quick. I really hate to say bad things about a local business but this was a very bad experience. read more

I called Happy Tails last minute and needed an appointment. Even though they said they were booked up, they sqeezed me in anyway. They were so nice and took great care of my Sheltie! Rachel, I am the daughter that brought the dogs described in Lee E.'s one-star post. Would you like me to post pictures of my bloody clothes after leaving your shop? I am not sure why you would blatantly lie the way you did in your response to her post, but I guess that is just another character flaw. You were so rude to me from the very beginning. If I wasn't trying to do a favor for my mom by getting her dog's nails trimmed (she had been unable to do so because she is busy taking care of my dad who is suffering from cancer), I would've left after your first rude comment. Also, to clarify, my folks had taken their dogs to you several time years prior, but in recent times were having to go to a place more local due to issues described above with my dad's health. The dogs were dropped off in the past, so who knows what they went through during those visits? I would have much more respect for you if you could just say that you were having a bad day or some other form of validation. Again, I urge people reading this, if you love you pet, go anywhere else!! read more

I brought my dog to get her nails trimmed, when I walked in there were cages just upon entry with dogs waiting and this made my dog nervous from the beginning, then the shops dog was loose and ran over to my dog which made her want to leave. As she was recently attacked at a park and skittish.. One lady asked me to hand her my dog and I couldn't believe the way she carried her, she pressed her hard against her body with my dogs legs just dangling which is not the proper way to hold a dog, it could actually do damage to their backs, If I could post a photo I would show them the proper way , then the two women tried to figure out who was going to trim my dogs nails and who was going to hold her meanwhile my dog is trying to figure out why she still has her legs dangling and starts to get restless and get away from these women, and then the one lady said we need to muzzle her and this point I was appalled at the unprofessional service and said to please hand my dog back to me.. I could tell why my dog so eagerly wanted to leave.. I usually take my dog to pet smart but thought this would be better as I could avoid the wait I sometimes have, but I took her back to Pet Smart and they had absolutely no problem., I'm just telling you after reading some of the reviews like mine I wish I would have done it sooner.. Instead of saying to me I'm sorry it didn't work out the women both said yes why don't you take her back to Pet Smart! Very rude !! I could only imagine how they might treat a dog getting groomed when they could not even handle a simple nail trim... I've read the owners responses to other posts similar to mine and I see she always try's to act like people are just making things up! Pros: Rachel was able to fit me in last minute and finished on time. Friendly staff. My terrier looked and smelled good. Cons: No nail trim. My dog had water in both ears. (I could hear it squeaking with I rubbed his head.) We ended up at the vet 2 days later with infection in both ears. Overall, I'd recommend Rachel's Happy Tails but I'd ask her to be careful with ears. read more

Rachel is amazing, We took our Scottie puppy here for his first grooming and he came out looking AMAZING, and very happy. Not only did he get his first grooming he made new friends, humans and other dogs. I would recommend them as groomers to friends and family and will be back time and time again. My current dog is a terrier mix, she knows just how to clip him so he looks like a tidy version of himself. She really loves the dogs and they respond to that. I had a bichon frise, recently passed, Rachel had groomed her since she was a year old....she was 16 when she passed. I would never take Mitzi to anyone else but Rachel. She did a beautiful job every time...she was and still is considered family to me. Bichon a are a handle to groom due to all that white fluffy fur but Rachel knows her dogs breed and Mitzi was done to perfection as far as THIS owner is concerned. After being groomed by Rachel last week, our dog had a pulled muscle that was so serious she had to be treated by a vet and put on anti-inflammatory medication. Rachel refused to acknowledge any responsibility and said "You can't prove it." I may not be able to prove it, but the dog has never had any problems with her legs prior to the visit, so it seems more than likely that it was a result of the way she was treated while at Rachel's. read more

We have a Yorkie youngster and a Shih Tzu old man. They have been to other groomers and have seemed a little nervous afterward. With Rachel they have no problem. We have brought our dog to a couple of different groomers over the past few years and our pet would always be so painfully terrified when we arrived and when he left. In fact, he would hide deep in the back seat of our car once we even drove up into their parking lots, so he knew what was coming. We'd pick him up and it was as if he shunned us for the remainder of the day. He was obviously mad at us. So my husband did some further research and discovered Rachel's Happy Tails on Yelp. We feel like we struck it rich!! It was a match made in heaven...an instant connection. Rachel is so kind and gentle with our dog. She treats each dog as if it was her own personal pet. We tell her what type of cut we would like done and we're always so pleased with the results. But what's more important, our dog no longer shutters in terror when we drop him off or pick him up. Everyone who knows my Theodore knows he is a rescue and is very difficult. Rachel said she would give him a try. She truly knows dogs and especially Scottish terriers. He came out beautifully and she will do him again even though he's difficult. Rachel has a gift. I think she worked harder at calming me down (being nervous about Theo's behavior) than calming Theo down. I now know what I've been missing. Just returned from yet another AWESOME haircut with Rachel of Rachel's Happy Tails. We have been going here every three months for over eight years. Rachel is quick (dogs are done right away instead of being crated for hours like at many other places) - she is affordable (prices are roughly thirty percent less than other places) and she LOVES dogs. She is also very knowledgeable about dog health, skin issues, and different breeds. I have learned so much about dogs from her over the years. As soon as you meet Rachel, it is clear that for her dog grooming is a labor of love. True, she is a bit of a character - she calls us owners "Mom and Dad," and yes, she will tell you what breed you have, but I like this; after all, if I wanted a cookie-cutter experience with some kid with no personality and no experience, I'd go to a big box pet chain. I actually live in Berkeley and so Concord is a distance away, but Rachel is worth the drive; you get personal, non-big box attention, you get a lady with YEARS of experience, you get good, old-fashioned attention, and you save money.
