Jeanette, the owner, is wonderful and made me feel comfortable and welcome. I started by taking her Aerial Fitness Bootcamp class which definitely kicked my butt. From there I moved on to the Aerial Dance all levels class on Saturdays and the Aerial Conditioning w/ Emily on Thursday mornings. Both are awesome. I get a great workout while also attempting amazing feats with my body. Two months in, I have a pretty solid foundation of basic skills and am fairly amazed at the progress that I've made. Whether I want to continue recreationally or to be able to perform someday I know anything is possible with the resources available here. I would recommend this place to anyone, beginner all the way to expert. The space is great, the teachers are friendly, encouraging, very knowledgeable and inspiring, and working in the air is absolutely one of the best ways to get a fabulous workout while also learning incomparable jaw-droppingly cool skills.

She gave us a quick tour and shared such kind, encouraging words, which really helped calm those "trying something new" nerves. Our instructor, Louise, was phenomenal. She kept the energy up the entire class, checked in on everyone, and made sure we all felt supported with hands-on guidance when needed. I'll be honest, I have zero rhythm and dancing does not come naturally to me, but I had SO much fun. What really stood out was the community. Everyone was so sweet and supportive, and even the other girls in class were offering tips and cheering each other on. My friend and I will definitely be back, it was such a blast. At the other places I've been (not naming names, as I'm sure they're fine at what they specialize in), the instructors will show you how to do a move and then shrug if you can't do it. Here, they'll show adjustments or a previous progression and help you figure out how to do a move with patience and encouragement, and they won't leave you adrift feeling like you can't do something and not know why. Jen, Jenn, Christina, Amy are my go to pole teachers now that im more advanced! Mei is my favorite beginner pole teacher and now teaches mostly at the new SJ location. Lisa, Debbie and Jen also have amazing heels choreo classes! Andy is my chair/sensual heels teacher and always brings the heat! Cindy and Rissa will get you flexible in no time! The first half of the class was a bit tough for me to get a hold of everything as these were new techniques to me but Claire was very kind and helpful to me and everyone else, fixing our form and helping us when we got stuck. Such a lovely studio!!…read more I came for a level one pole and dance class taught by the owner Rodney. The studio itself is decorated with love and is very clean. Rodney is an amazing teacher. He is a passionate, veteran instructor who will also keep you safe. I enjoyed his cues such as smiling, or reminders to slow down and really feel engagement of my body to do certain tricks. I hope to go again! Maybe even check out the aerial yoga class. :) I have been recommending his studio specifically to my friends who are into burlesque, but I also know he'd make any novice feel both comfortable and rewarded with just the right amount of challenge. :)

I've been coming to Inspiration Studios for many years now, and it's one of my favorite places to…read moretrain and unwind. They offer both Pole and Aerial classes, each with their own vibe and energy. Pole classes are held in Suite N and tend to have a bolder, more expressive atmosphere. Aerial classes are in Suite O and are usually calmer and more focused on flow and form. Make sure you head to the correct suite depending on your class. When you arrive, just check in with the instructor, or follow the lead of others in the room. Some instructors like to check everyone in personally, while others are more casual about it. It's a no-shoes kind of space. For Aerial, you're usually barefoot or in socks. For Pole, you're either barefoot or in heels depending on the class. I've taken a variety of classes over the years, but these days I'm more focused on Aerial. I especially want to shout out KC, who is my favorite instructor. She's clear, encouraging, and just a great teacher overall. Her classes are the perfect mix of supportive and challenging, and I always leave feeling stronger and more confident. I've been a student since the studio was called Poletential, back when it was under different ownership. It's been great to see the space evolve while still staying a welcoming and empowering place to train.

Going to Shakespeare Santa Cruz in The Grove is a highlight of summer in the Bay Area, and this…read moreyear's rendition of "King Lear" features Paul Whitworth, the former artistic director & a British-born actor who tackled many of the greatest roles in the canon during his tenure in the 1990s and 2000s. It's a tour de force performance, and a high point of the many performances we've attended here. King Lear closes on August 27th: catch it if you can. When coming, be sure to wear layers, prepare to bundle up, purchase tickets ahead and rent a seat cushion and blanket. Rental proceeds go to Shakespeare Santa Cruz. Even on warmer days, it can cool off considerably at night. We were here on an uncharacteristically warm day, and once the stars came out we definitely appreciated our jackets & rental blanket.

If you get the chance, I highly recommend seeing a show here!
