Inspiration studios aerial side: silks, sling/hammocks, lyra, dance trapeze (single and double point), and the newest mini-hoop!
    Julia Z.

This is my go to aerial studio, and while I could gush on and on about the classes, I'm going to mention other less-biased based items: This studio has been the strictest for health and safety during covid that I've been to. They only reopened two months ago, and with required vaccinations AND masking. While this can be frustrating, the recent surge of delta feels like less of a problem thanks to these measures. Additionally, the instructors ask us to wipe down shared mats and equipment at the end of class, so things stay clean. Of the studios I've been to, I'd say inspiration studios does the most warm up and conditioning. Sometimes that means I'm a little frustrated at not getting to the apparatus faster, but it does mean that there's a much lower chance of injury (versus when I do my own warm-ups..). Over time I've really come to appreciate this aspect of this studio. I do think it's a little pricier, but the instructors are good and the classes are still pretty small. If you're new, I highly recommend trying it out! Note: Yes, you have to drive over a weird railroad track at an almost non-existent turn. Yes, you're driving into an area with a lot of weird warehouses. It's admittedly confusing to get to the first time. There's plenty of parking available so no worries there. The N studio is pole and the O studio is aerial. PS: if you're a regular aerialist and you like using rosin or chalk, you need to bring your own.

every part of this studio is really so aesthetic

I've attended classes with Ly, Yisha, Jane, Yoko, Jo, Katya, and some other guest and sub instructors. There are a variety of classes offered for a fair price point. Each instructor has their own teaching style, but they all focus on student success and encouragement. I originally started pole dancing as a way to honor myself and my body, and with the help of the instructors, I've gained a level of self confidence that I never had. If I ever need to cancel class, Ly always checks to make sure I'm okay and asks if I need anything. Even though she has a lot of students, she's very caring and mindful of each individual. The classes are structured with a warm up, the instruction and practice, time to record/practice independently, and a cool down. The instructors provide hands on spotting throughout class and will walk you through any move to ensure safe techniques to avoid injury or troubleshoot if a move isn't working for you. Instructors will also provide simpler or more advanced variations of one move to ensure access and a challenge for each student. I am a pretty sensitive and shy person, but the community at this studio helps me break out of my comfort zone with a lot of positive encouragement. I highly recommend Ly's pole studio for your aerial arts journey.

I took two aerial silks classes here with Asia a while back, and it was awful…read more For my first class (Aerial Silks Level 2), I came prepared and trimmed my fingernails beforehand, as this studio requires it. Upon arrival, the instructor inspected my nails, handed me a nail clipper, and told me to cut them even shorter. I've trained at multiple studios, including Circus Center in SF, and have never had this requirement taken to this extreme. The studio uses an aerial rig that requires tying on a frame, and when I didn't know how to adjust the silks, the instructor seemed annoyed at having to explain it. During the class, she demonstrated a silks sequence twice, expected us to follow, and when I had difficulty, she told me to move to the Level 1 class. So, my second (and final) visit was to Aerial Silks Level 1. Asia still seemed irritated that I didn't instantly know how to rig the setup; this was only my second time there. Class started 15 minutes late, with just three students total. We then spent the entire hour doing inverts in a knot behind the back. I'm not exaggerating, nothing else for the whole session. When I asked to try something different, I was ignored and told we wouldn't move forward until my invert had zero knee bend. After 30 minutes of nonstop inverts, anyone's legs would fatigue. I've never had such an unpleasant, condescending experience with a teacher. I wasted a session credit on a class that not only started late but also taught me nothing.

I'm so glad I made that decision, because Addie is awesome!!! She's super nice and really good at teaching! The class I was in had 5 other participants. We first showed proof of vaccination and our ID before filling out the waiver. The lights were dim and the studio itself doesn't have many mirrors. I felt that this promoted confidence because I didn't have to feel self-conscious in the mirror, or worry about how I looked in front of others. Because I'm more cautious, I kept my mask on. I appreciate that there was no pressure to have to take my mask off. Anyway, so we start off with a warmup that focused on flexibility and core strength. Spoiler alert: I lack both, but I did my best! We also learned how to crawl and do some sexy leg work. Then we got to pick a pole and we learned some moves: a spin, how to walk around the pole, and how to uh dance around it? At the end of the class, we learned a routine and had the option of recording ourselves. We even got to try on heels! Uh a little heads up on the heels: your best bet is to size up. I normally wear a 5. The 6 fit me fine, but I might've felt more comfortable wearing a 6.5 or something. I'm really considering taking the 5-6 week series.

I've been coming here for about five years (!) and I love it. There are tons of good things I could…read moresay about it, but I'll try to keep it short and useful. These are my favorite things about this studio: - The classes are very balanced. Besides the actual training for spins or tricks, they include a quite hardcore warmup and stretching that will help you gain the strength you will need later on, and time for dancing in the end. - They get you to freestyle from very early on. Instead of just teaching you cool tricks that you can only do for a photo, they actually put a lot of emphasis in dancing. After just a few weeks of class, you'll feel comfortable dancing and freestyling. The studio is super supportive and encouraging, no matter how you look or how experienced you are, and you won't feel shy or insecure even if you're just starting and can only do a few spins. - The instruction is organized through series, so you'll get to know your class buddies and you will learn step by step, building strength and form for whatever comes next. You will also get a lot of personalized attention, because the instructor will actually know you and spend time with you. I find this particularly useful if you're not the kind of person who is naturally skilled or gets tricks super fast, because you won't arrive or leave a class feeling completely lost, useless, or frustrated. - It's very safe! They don't use crashmats, and that doesn't make it unsafe, but the opposite. The instructors won't let you do stuff unless you're actually ready to do it, they'll spot you until you're confident about it, and eventually you will feel comfortable enough to do it by yourself and incorporate it in your dance. And again, they'll spend time with you to make sure you're doing it right. - The owner, Nikki, is very good at identifying why you're not being able to land a trick, and will give you specific tips to actually do it. Not only that, but she trains her instructors to be aware of the details people find challenging, and address those. If you've ever had the feeling that an instructor was just too good of a dancer and they just couldn't understand why a move is difficult to you, you won't have it here. This probably won't be the right studio for you if you can only drop in every now and then, if you learn very fast and are able to get many tricks right away, or if you just want to learn tricks and don't care about the dancing itself.
