You can book a private room if you want something more low key with friends, but honestly I recommend the big room with strangers. It ends up being way more fun and energetic, and people really get into it. Songs in the big room are about $3 each, which is pretty reasonable for the experience. Came here for a friend's bday celebration. She had a private room and it was extremely spacious considering she had a group of at least 15. The drinks were included in the price we paid and kept flowing. Someone would come in periodically and check on us and take drink orders if needed. You can bring your own food, so it was nice to have some catered food that we enjoyed. The catalogue was through a website and it was a pretty good one with most of the classics. I'd prefer a physical book to find songs but I get that we ate in a digital world. I will say they did not have a lot of classic RnB or Hip Hop songs, including some that are extremely popular. After a break during the pandemic, we started our monthly Karaoke outings again here, and it's been great! We do the private rooms, and they're great. We've also had some fun after-parties in the main bar. The staff is always friendly and helpful! The wifi can be spotty, which affects the song system sometimes, and I do miss having the physical books, although they do supply them upon request, even though they aren't updated. One complaint--we used to always order the tater tots with the spicy mayo, and they've discontinued them!! It's a travesty! Bring back the tots! read more

Karaoke requests does cost money, so we mainly just sung to other people's song in the back. What a fabulous experience... I have not done karaoke since the early 1990s and a lot has changed! We decided on radio star as it was close to our hotel and allowed under 21 in Service was so so but the space and experience was fabulous You're given a private room based on the number of people in your group and you pay by the hour. If you're visiting New York with a group it would be a fun activity to do. They have bar service to your room and in some of the larger rooms it looks like they were eating food as well. Songs are $3 per which seems reasonably priced, but the alcohol drinks is where they get you. A well drink is ~$15-$17 & a shot is $10!! I definitely should have asked before I got it. I liked that the crowd is more on the older side and isn't aggressively crowded or loud. There were a few drunk 20 somethings around midnight but I really liked that it was a minority of people from the crowd. A lot of the singers were really into the song which was fun. Had my birthday party there and had a good time. The space is well designed, comfie, and the staff is nice and New Yorkish. There's even a cutie tiny doggie who is friendly security. I put my credit card down to make the $70 room reservation, and they called to verify my reservation, and then again at the desk asked for the card info. That could of been a lil easier, especially when 3 different people asked for the card, yeeesh I almost thought I'd have charges on it by the day of. Well, we had a cute room, and a big enough space for my friend and his wheelchair. We ordered happy hour drinks, a bunch of wings, and had a 2 hour time slot. Staff was attentive, and drinks were strong, wings were really good. Thy even brought lil frozen mini shots for my birthday to the group. Where things got weird was when we checked out. My friends divvy'ed up to pay the tab, and did not look happy about it. Seems there charges they did not expect, and I don't know what the total was, but their faces were not happy. Friends told me not to worry about it, but there was grumbling. And the guy at the desk said there would be a $90 charge on my card that would take 2 days to disappear, cuz my friends paid the tab. So, I think we all liked the spot, just next time would probably go to the bar and have a cheaper time with less hidden fees and no fake 'deals'. read more

First time at radio star tonight! Group of 9, $70/hr for the Beatles room, which I specifically requested for my friend's bday as she loves the Beatles. Danny, Gianna, and the team at radio star took really really great care of us. Highly recommend making a reservation ahead of time, I found they were the easiest to communicate with (Gianna replied within minutes to every email) among the karaoke places I inquired with for this large group booking on a Saturday night. No food or drink minimum which was a must for us, decently priced food / drink menu if you do decide you want a bite. Solid song selection and better acoustics than a few other places I've been to in Ktown. Love how easy the website is to navigate, see the rooms ahead of time, even look up songs ahead of time and you can even request songs to be added (if you give them enough heads up of course). The rooms are slightly on the smaller side, but 9 people in the Beatles room was perfectly comfortable (if we went up to 14 as the website says is the max capacity of that room... Idk everyone would have a seat for sure but it might be a lil cramped). I liked that it was also considerably less janky as a venue for my friend's bday, we wanted a place that just felt a little nicer than our usual "anything goes" karaoke experiences elsewhere. Service wise, Danny checked in on us about 2x an hour but it wasn't intrusive at all, he literally popped his head in and made a thumbs up sign and I gave him a thumbs up sign back if we didn't need anything then he disappeared immediately -- or if we said "water and 2 more bottles of soju pls!" it was delivered within 5-7 minutes every time if I had to guess (which is great for such a busy busy evening!). My cousin was visiting from out of town on summer vacation and we decided we wanted to do karaoke. We wanted to sing in the bar area and we needed help finding songs as the internet connection through their app was not good and the female bartender told us there was no songbook available. So if we wanted to sing, the app (which was not working on my cousin's phone) was our only option. We asked the bartender for help and even though she was not busy and no one else was sitting at the bar ordering drinks, she refused to help us. She then proceeded to grab a microphone to sing a song of her own even though she's supposed to be WORKING and helping customers should be her first priority. My cousin and I started talking amongst ourselves about what songs we wanted to sing and the bartender was so paranoid that she thought we were talking about her (and in any event our conversations are private between us). She rudely told us we should leave and made fun of my cousin for needing extra help using the app. We left in absolute disgust. One thing I know for sure is that this bartender should not be in the customer service industry if she can't relate to or help customers properly. I understand customer service, especially in a bar atmosphere can be overwhelming but there are some people who know how to handle certain situations better than others. They regularly checked in to see if we needed drinks/ troubleshooting 2. Song codes are easily accessible online. You can find newly released songs on their website. 3. Funky decor and private rooms Things to Note: 1. This location can get pretty pricey. My party paid $32 per person plus $25 for drinks. 2. Be sure to read the menu carefully as they have different happy hour specials. Overall, I enjoyed my experience here. It was my first visit since pre-pandemic times when i used to drop in after work for a song and a drink and I have to say ... "Prison's changed you." We didn't actually get passed the front desk because of their strict no outside food or drink policy. Rules are rules and the manager at the front desk will make you practically empty any bag you might be bringing into the place (the manager stuck his hand in my friends bag to move stuff around during his search). We unfortunately had a sealed bottle of water and leftovers from lunch that we were unwilling to part with so we decided to leave the empty bar and take our business elsewhere after negotiating reached an impasse (e.g. it didn't matter that we were going to the bar area, doesn't matter that eyes are everywhere, doesn't matter that the water hasn't been opened, doesn't matter that we wanted to spend money here, etc). read more

Visited Radio Star Karaoke for my friend's birthday plans. It was an amazing experience and the workers should get a raise!! I love the nostalgic decor and all the antiques they have displayed. We made a reservation prior for 2 hours of karaoke and they checked IDs before entering the room. The lady (I wish I caught her name) directed us to the room and it was a bit small for our group of 7. Not much space to move around so we mostly sat the whole time but the seating was enough for us. She showed us how to use the remote and told us about the drink packages they offer. They have a $25 per person package for unlimited drinks for an hour for the non-popular brand drinks. For $10 at $35 they have the package for brand name like Casamigos, Ketel One, Titos, etc. You're not allowed to get any drinks straight which makes sense though to make sure people don't get too drunk. It was very simple to work the songs and you can view the song list easily by scanning a QR code. The song list was great. There's a mix of everything and it's explicit versions of songs. You can even put them in a queue which is so convenient. The lady was very attentive with us and brought out new drinks quickly. For just a small bite we ordered the mozzarella sticks and they were SO good. Very cheesy. Overall the prices are great imo for karaoke in the city. All the staff was so kind! Radio star karaoke is the everyman's karaoke joint. You have the option of getting a private room or to hang out in their communal bar where anyone can sing and drink without the pricier option of a private experience. We walked in and they alerted us that they card anyone under 35. How can they tell who is under 35 before checking ID is a tricky and dangerous game. Kudos to the gentleman checking ID for the nice cleanup he attempted after slightly offending some in my entourage. Ha! A Tito's and cranberry will run you about ten dollars without tip. I, unfortunately, didn't remember to ask how much shots would cost. Note that drinks and shots are served in plasticware that looks like glass and is also considerably smaller than you expect. Come with cash, as the credit card minimum is twenty dollars. Bathrooms are clean and located in the rear and to the left of the entrance. Microphones seemed a little low in volume and are usually passed on to the next patron when your song is done. Admittedly, I am not the biggest karaoke fan but this place was fun and can do in a pinch. I've been to nicer places but this was great to have in the area without traveling to other further locations in the City. read more

THE ROOM: We got "The Duet Room," which says it seats 2-6 people online. However, I think it would be more comfortable for up to four people. There are 2 TV screens. I'm so used to the random mismatched music video running on the screens at the Karaoke places I go to, that the blue screen with solely the lyrics seemed bare. There's a bench that seats four people comfortably and two stools. HUGE CON - The way the lyrics were presented on the screen - they were actually shown faster than the music, so it was difficult to sing along unless you really knew the song and knew when to come in. SERVICE: We were shown to our room and given an explanation about how the system worked by two friendly staff. We also got regular check-ins. However, there was a dude at the front desk who seemed like he was running things. He made me feel uncomfortable because of his caustic humor and general lack of concern towards customers. PRICE: For the Duet Room, it's $50/hr. We reserved for 2 hours and I guess stayed a minute more? So they charged us $101, which I think is hilariously stingy of them. They also added on a 18% gratuity fee. OVERALL: I wouldn't come back or recommend this place mainly because 1) the lyrics on the screen didn't match the beat of the music which made it hard to follow along and 2) management made me feel uncomfortable. read more
