TLDR: They will do extensive work without explaining to you what they are going to do or how much it is going to cost. I suspect that this is something they do to young women because they figure we will pay whatever amount needed to get our cars back and to be honest, they're right. That also seem to have a very poor understanding of European cars. Don't make the same mistake I did!! Go somewhere else. For those who want details, here's the scoop: I originally intended not to write a review about this experience because it's already taken up enough of my time and patience. However, because a frustrated friend wrote a review about my recent experience here, got some things wrong, and Radi's felt the need to mention me BY NAME in their response stating that I (who did not write said review) am making false claims, so here I am. Not only was this whole experience horrible, but Radi's also showed a flagrant disregarded for my privacy in their response to the review referenced above. This business is at best, unprofessional slow and incapable of effective communication, and at worst they're predatory and calculating. I can't make up my mind... I came here for an oil change, brake light replacement and to see if there were any new codes on my computer. My check engine had been on for some time but had been cleared by another mechanic who confirmed it was not a pressing issue. Right off the bat, the woman told me they would need the car overnight and quoted me $340. I should have seen this as the red flag it was, but I gave them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they're just busy... although it seemed odd, as I had made an appointment 3 days prior. I reached out to the shop repeatedly over the next three days. At one point they finally had an update for me. The front desk woman quickly told me that "there were some codes" and there were "some leaks" and that I might need a new computer. I was having trouble understanding her and asked her to please explain exactly what it was they would be doing to my car. She just repeated the same vague information and then told me that "she didn't know how to make me understand" as if I was stupid. She never gave me a quote for the new work except to mention that if I did indeed need a new computer it would be $1400. I asked that they reach out to me if that work needed to be done. I planned to get a second opinion before dropping that kind of money on something blindly. Finally 4 days later, I call again to find that my car is finally ready and that the new computer wouldn't be needed after all. (What a relief!) The man on the phone would not give me the cost of the total repairs which I found odd, but shrugged off at the time. When I arrived, I waited around for the front desk woman for around 10 minutes before she presented me with a bill for over $1900. I was shocked. I was expecting to pay somewhere around the estimate I was originally given ($340) I tried to look at the receipt and ask what all the charges were for but the woman kept moving the receipt so that I couldn't read it and insisting that they were giving me a discount and that they were "cutting into their profits". I needed my car because I was leaving town that day, so I paid and left. Upon leaving I noticed that the messages on my dash regarding the need for maintenance and the brake light that was out were still showing. I found this odd. Once I got home I realized the brake light hadn't even been replaced. This made me suspicious, so I reviewed the (illegible) receipt and couldn't make sense of the calculations. I was also suspicious that the extensive work I was charged for may not have all been done. If they can't take 2 minutes to replace a light bulb, what were they doing with my car for 4 days?? It seemed as though I had been had. After a week or so, my car wouldn't start, then would start for a moment before sputtering to a stall. I went to another mechanic who said that Radi's had likely done an improper reset on my computer resulting in a total loss of data and that It would hopefully resolve over time as the computer gathered new data. A few days later it wouldn't start again. I suspected the battery and took the car to pep boys. They found that the (nearly new) battery had been shorted. This, they said, was likely a result of the computer being improperly reset as well. Radis not only charged me nearly $2000 in repairs but cost me another $200+ plus hours of lost time being stranded multiple times with a car that wouldn't start waiting for AAA. I disputed the charge with my bank but ultimately lost because I did sign for the repairs when they held me at adhesion. Do not go here if you are a young woman and/or have a European car. If you do, make sure you don't consent to anything over the phone, to RADI's they take it like receiving a blank check! read more

In an industry that has an unfortunate reputation, Radi's is a shining example of what a neighborhood mechanic should be. I've kept coming back to Radi's for years, thru several family cars, because they're consistently honest, fast, and kind. That's everything from an oil change to suspension repair. Maybe I'm setting the bar too low for auto mechanics. But I'm not saying Radi's simply clears that bar. Recently, I took in my car for a brake job. When I picked it up, Eileen the office manager pointed out I also had a "click" in my rack and pinion. Uh oh. But before Eileen gave me a quote, she called Subaru and found out the issue was still under warranty. That's not something I expect a mechanic to do. Let's start out with THEY WONT DO WHAT YOU ASK FOR! Went to Radi's and was greeted by the blonde frantic lady that works there and asked for a simple oil change and break light fix. They quoted me a few hours and about $300. I get a call that there are other issues with the car and that they will have to hold my car for a day. I was confused because I didn't ASK them to check anything else. The next day I call, no answer. I call again, the frantic lady answers and starts rambling about my car how it has leaks and etc. but it did not have any leaks or nothing. She would not be explain what was wrong with the car and was rude and told me "you won't understand". They ended up holding my car for 3 days WITHOUT telling me an updated estimate of what the "problems" that they found were going to cost until I got there to pick up my car. She was rude and wouldn't explain what was "done" to my car. She only explained that she gave me a 10% discount on my $2000 bill. At that point nothing I asked for in my initial $300 estimate was done. I went to another mechanic to verify if they actually did any of the work they said they did when I picked up the car, AND THE NEW MECHANIC SAID NO NOTHING WAS DONE!!!!! N O T H I N G ! These people are scammers charging for whatever they want and acting nice in the beginning and f***ing you over in the end. I should have trusted the previous bad reviews. After pumping some gas, my car wouldn't start so I called Radi's. Aileen talked me through a couple of steps to try and help me, but then she realized it was my battery. I got a jump start from AAA and took my car immediately into Radi's. They were great all around! They replaced my battery, and the fee for everything was very reasonable. Great service and support! They provided solid options in Hardware verse that of myself buying my own brake kits to be installed. Way better quality than that online or from Autozone or O'Rielly's. Got both my front and back brakes done on my Range Rover Sport Supercharged Land Rover. They own Land Rover's themselves so, I knew they'd do it right. Super stoked to have solid long lasting low dust brakes on it now. Also at the same cost with install for the same price as performance big brake kits that I researched. Highly recommend them. Raymond is a shyster and if you have at least a three digit IQ you should STAY AWAY from this place or he will rob your pocketbook. Radi and the team are exceptional. They have great customer service, are timely and communicative. In addition to all that, they make sure the cars are disinfected when they receive it and again when the car is returned to you. Hand sanitizer and a tracking sheet is available at the front desk. I don't know about all the other work they do here, its seems pretty good with all the 5 star reviews..... But when I got my brakes done i was charged 460.00 for front and rear brakes my car is just a small sized japanese sedan. I felt a bit overcharged because the last 5 times I changed my brakes it was done for under $300. She quoted me about 270 over the phone but after she looked at my car she said it would cost 350 and then changed it up again to 460. ugh way too much for a brake job....I'm not going back here for another brake job. Nah, no thank you. Took my old Diesel Benz here because It was way WAY overdue for an oil change, my oil pressure was way low and my usually, trustworthy mechanic (Long Automotive) unfortunately doesnt work on these as much so waiting for things to get ordered wasnt an option for me. So i phoned these guys cus they're close by and have all these great reviews, and yeah i could drop by in 15 and yeah they could get it done within the hour = sweet! Kinda blown away that it ran me $100 for an oil change, but the lady at the desk was all "oh your cart takes 8 quarts, plus we use great diesel oil blah blah" yeah yeah, here's the money, i should've taken my keys back right then and there. But no, I said to her back in the office that i noticed that my car was getting all rattly and shaky when i would idle or put it in reverse "any idea of what could that be, i wanna make sure i'm not killing the engine" and the guy piped in from the other room "sounds like your transmission is shot, it's about $2k to replace, plus tax" to which i was all "uhh, lets hold off on that and make sure that it wasnt the dirty old oil causing my car grief. Besides he hasnt even looked at my car. I drive off and the engine is definitely happier and sounds good as long as i'm moving forward, until again, once i idle or put it in reverse it gets very shaky indeed. So i bring it back and opened the hood for the guy and had him look inside this time and asked him what i could do in the meantime because no i do not have 2Gs to drop on this car (if i did i'd just buy one less problematic!) and if i need to keep it off the street it in the meantime i will. So he looks around, and i cycle through the gears for him, and he says that my fuel injectors are bad (forget the transmission) and that replacing them all they're like $150 a piece x 5 of them, plus laborrrr which can easily take 4-6hrs so count on about $1000 w/ parts and labor. he says labor like it's a chore, not like its his job to labor on cars... Now this is a 30yr old car, in not the best of shape i know, but dude doesnt even offer to test and/or clean the injectors which he assumes i know nothing about cus i'm a young woman with a noisy old car and thinks i'll just go with whatever he's trying to sell me instead of what i actually need. So i said i'd think about it and took my car right out of there. with literally like an hour of googling i figured i could Seafoam treat the fuel delivery components and that should help clear out my injectors if they're just clogged ($10 @ autozone) and replaced my diesel fuel filters myself ($40 @ autozone again!), had the the engine mounts changed out ($75 for an OEM pair, plus labor) cus after 30 years they tend to wear out on any car ever. Car's back to being awesome and solid, and now i know not to ever trust those jerks. Sorry bro, you cant try to disarm me with a nice friendly desk lady and then try to gouge me once i get comfortable! read more

Dishonest!!! Not only did they make my car worse and charging me way too much, but when I brought it in for the "next day check up" the guy told me my alternator was now bad. He brought me into the office and told the owner woman my alternator was bad and she told him condescendingly as if i wouldn't notice "Oh no Jose, that is the other car that has an alternator problem, not this car. LOVE LOVE LOVE them! I found them on yelp, and they're just down the street from my new home. excellent. Everything everyone has said about this place: ditto. My car totally broke down. I know absolutely nothing about cars. Eileen took care of me as if I were her own daughter. She also gave me tons of life lessons about what kind of gas to use, skincare tips, real estate history, good vitamin shopping, and how to run a business among many other things! Raymond fixed my car to the point where I can drive it safely so that I didn't have to waste any more money on a rental car (Eileen even checked my rental car receipt to make sure I didn't pay a cent more than I should have!). Tomorrow I'm going back to hang out with Eileen for a couple more hours while I wait for Raymond to totally make my baby almost as good as new. And, I'm looking forward to the visit. :) read more

Beware of being taken for a ride! For years, I have done most of my own small repairs, and when it came to bigger car problems, I took my various vehicles to a pair of very trustworthy brothers who used to run a shop in Silverlake but are now retired. Last week, my "Check Engine Light" had been on for a brief period of time. Since my first child was due that week, I did not have the time to toy around with the car too much myself, so I took Yelp's recommendations and took my car to Radi's, which is less than a mile away from my apartment. They sounded reliant and convenient, so I gave them a shot. After two days of having my car, Radi's presented me with a bill for nearly a thousand dollars. Even worse, the "Check Engine Light" came back on the next day. They basically fixed anything they saw that might need work, and charged an exorbitant amount for labor. Yet, they never addressed the problem that the computer scanner cited as the cause of engine trouble, which was an EGR valve issue. Radi's told me to come back after driving it for 80 miles, and they would see from there what they needed to do. But there was no way I could take another $1,000 gamble on Radi's. I took the car to a mechanic I know of in Silverlake (this time recommended by a friend), and he had the car repaired in two hours, for only $150. In sum, when Radi's could have repaired my car for a $150, they charged me $1,000 while spending two days not even fixing the problem that the computer scanner said caused my problem. (Imagine going to the doctor for a sore throat and then being charged thousands for knee surgery) To be fair, it could be argued that my car would eventually need these repairs that Radi's made. Nonetheless, I went in simply wanting to address the issue that caused my check engine light to go on, whereas I came out with a $1,000 bill and the problem still not fixed. And having re-examined the bill they gave me, no honest mechanic would charge as much as they did for labor to fix what they did (putting in a new radiator, timing belt, and water pump). Perhaps if you go to Radi's with a specific thing to work on (e.g., new break pads, oil change), they might be good. But if the cause of your car's trouble is up in the air, it seems like it could cost you thousands before Radi's actually gets to the root of the problem. read more

It gets so tiring dealing with mechanics who are out for their own best interests and wallets. I have indeed met the most trusted mechanic here at Radi's!! Raymond and Eileen and all their staff really care about you and maintaining a healthy car! They almost seem like a small town establishment but a pure gem and a God send in this big city. I think of Eileen and Raymond as my friends who do their best to help me out. Every time my car gets serviced I feel like they're looking out for MY best interest. Here are some specific examples: When I had to get a spare tire, Eileen put the tire supplier on speaker phone and HELPED ME negotiate a low price! When I decided to get a new car, Eileen and Raymond gave me very thorough advice on what to look for from their experience fixing cars. One thing that stood out in my mind was when I showed her my list of possible cars and she tossed out almost all of them because they had high mileages. You know you have an honest mechanic that looks out for you when she wants you to get a RELIABLE car. Even if it means fewer visits to her shop. When I finally decided and bought a 2004 Acura (had it checked out by Raymond before the purchase), I took it to the Glendale dealer to confirm the warrenty. The dealer told me that the car had previously been in a very serious collision and tried to void my warranty. I took it to Raymond who then immediately inspected it and called out their BS. I then took Eileen and Raymond's advice of checking out another dealer and did another check. The 2nd dealership check showed nothing but minor fender benders and totally accepted the reminder warrentee. LIARS, CROOKS AND CRIMINALS!!! This place is a joke and a complete ripoff. I wouldn't recommend anyone come here (unless of course you're friends with the owners and workers, then you'll PROBABLY get good service). The prices they charge are ridiculous and don't make sense, I've been to lots of mechanic shops so I already had a figure in mind for fixing a part of my car that I've had serviced twice before over the past several years. They wanted to charge three times as much as I've paid at other places for the exact same part. I let them keep my car for days too long and after having a raging phone conversation with them I went to pick up my car and I asked the woman there with the clipboard the name of their owner and she gave me a FALSE name! A few moments after she walked away to go deal with something else and that's when I asked one of the mechanics there who the owner was and that's when I found she blatantly lied to me, even the mechanic was baffled. On top of that they didn't do everything they said they would, one of them was a simple tire rotation. The Better Business Bureau should investigate this place for fraud. It's not cool at all to charge with inflated prices and it's unethical to blatantly lie to try and cover up your mistakes. You've been warned, STAY AWAY FROM THIS PLACE. read more

great honest car mechanic place in LA. I've been taking my two cars here for about 4 years and it's a huge difference than any other place I've been to in LA. The owner Raymond is a truly nice guy who knows what he's doing and isn't in the business of ripping people off. His wife Eileen runs the office and phones and she rules, explaining everything and telling you to bring it back right away if there are any problems. She told me they don't advertise but get all their business by word of mouth and I was in there today and they had a ton of cars on the racks and in the lot. So looks like they are doing a pretty good business. Which is why they don't really need to pull a fast one on anybody. So if you live on the east side and have had trouble with mechanics in the past, I would reccommend giving these guys a try. They will also work with you to bring down the price of a repair if they can - by finding good reconditioned parts, etc. peace out -m read more

I recently bought a car in slightly-poor shape for really cheap. I brought it over to Radi's and they broke down my car to me in plain english. Even though I spent a lot of money there, I really needed to and they didn't charge me for anything unnecessary. They also gave me decent discounts. AVOID: When I wanted to speak directly to the mechanic because the lady receptionist was being vague about exactly where my leak was, she said "oh, you can't talk to him! he's Egyptian and won't understand you!" ------ I brought in my car because the check engine light being on was keeping me from passing smog check. I knew it was diagnosed as a "minor EVAP" leak, and I had already changed for a new gas cap myself. They performed a smoke test to see if there was a leak, then called me to say they found the problem, and would not need to replace any parts but "tighten some bolts where it was leaking smoke" and replace a senor. They quoted me $400 and I thought that was steep considering what a small problem it was but they guaranteed i could bring it in and they would fix it if the check engine light came on again. The light came back on a week later. I brought it back in, and the woman insisted there is nothing else but to buy a different gas cap- the manufacturers, since mine was generic from autozone. Of course I was infuriated at my own ignorance that this may have been the cheap solution from the start, but mad at her for not suggesting it before the "$400 repair" New gas cap- a week later- I pass the smog test but a day later the Check engine light is back on. I took the car back in, and this time the man working there (mechanic?) Outrageously said he would charge me $60 just to DIAGNOSE with the computer check what engine codes are coming up. I was outraged. I insisted after half an hour discussion explaining this is the 4th time and $400 dollars into a "minor" problem and they had guaranteed they would resolve it! Not only does a computer check take 30 seconds, you owe it to me. He finally did the computer test without charging, but would not answer our questions directly. The new test he was saying showed major problems with 2 of my cylinders and more and it would take a lot of repairs and money. Why didn't this show up when the new sensor was installed? I don't trust this place one bit. A huge, costly mistake. The woman also asked me too many personal questions and was not a good listener, as every point I made she would change the subject. I love a good mechanic and am faithful when I find one. This is not it. read more

I love this place. I no longer have a knot in my stomach when I think about car repair. They charge decent prices and are honest and really work with you. I was visibly stressed out and nervous to trust anyone after being screwed by 2 other local mechanics to the tune of $3000. Radi's told me that everything would be okay, there is no reason to stress out and they would make sure I was taken care of. Raymond was really great and so was the rest of the staff. They gave me hope. The lady that runs the place is awesome. She comforted and reassured me, even gave me great advice on a place to get my smog check done and the best DMV to go to. She sat there making phone calls for me for over an hour trying to help me out with my various car issues. She is like your cool Aunt, kind of hard around the edges and busting everyone's butts, not letting them get away with anything, but with a big heart and a cuddly inside that makes you feel protected and safe. She is amazing. You can tell she works hard and makes sure everything around the shop is being handled properly. I totally trust her and this shop. I was so relieved to deal with them all day that I almost cried at one point because I was so grateful. A girl that works in the office even went and bought ice creams for the staff and offered me some! When was the last time your auto repair shop offered you ice cream? I went to Radi for a routine repair. The service shop made my car worse. Instead of fixing my car, they created a whole collection of new problems. It's been a NIGHTMARE undoing the damage they caused to my vehicle. I drive an old model Subaru Outback that needs Oxygen sensors replaced every year. I have owned the car for 10 years, and I know what it needs to run happily. The mechanics ignored my advice, did not address the issue I requested, but instead invented several other "problems". They claimed these problems would address the Oxygen sensor as a long term solution. Not only was this a lie, but I paid close to $1,000 for repairs that actually made my car worse. I had to bring my car to another Mechanic (Pinky's Automotive on Wilshire is AMAZING). They were shocked at the condition of my car and told me never to go back to Radi. I won't. read more

Working off of previous reviews, I took in my recent-model Volkswagen to be checked out before I took it on a long road trip and I could not be happier with the results: all neccessary repairs done at a very reasonable price; heads' up about things that I'll probably have to deal with in the next year; instructions on how to care for the car better in the future; and just the nicest interactions I've ever had with a mechanic. I was in Los Angeles in August 2012 with a friend to see a concert when the belt on the air conditioner slipped off the pulley. It turned out that one of the pulleys had fallen off. We used Yelp to find the closest place. We needed the car repaired ASAP as we were both from out of town & needed to return to work the next day. We explained this to the clerk at Radi's. At first she hesitated because she was busy, but then decided to slip the car in. They were able to fix it for less than $100 and we were on our way in about 1 hour. The car still works well to this day. An out of town customer in need of an emergency repair usually means an easy mark for a mechanic to make a nice profit. Radi's did not do that. Further, they counseled my friend to go back to her mechanic in her town (who had recently done work on the air conditioner) to see if she could get a refund for the repair in Los Angeles. She did and the mechanic reimbursed her for the repair in LA. It's refreshing to still find an honest mechanic in such a big city. read more

When I called I was told there was a good chance they would have the 4 used tires I needed for my wrecked chrystler sebring. Not only did they not have any used tires but they made me wait two hours to tell me that. When I spoke to Eileen, she told me my total to repair and replace the tires would be around $180...that seemed a little high for tires. So I went somewhere else. Davis Brothers Tires in culver city was a bit of a drive but I got all 4 used tires for $45....in 15 minutes. Needless to say I won't be revisiting Radi's despite how close it is to my house. read more

Took my car here last week to fix my suspension thats been bothering me for O so long. They replaced 2 struts, a mount, changed my oil, tightened my exhaust, replaced my timing belt n tensioner all in a days work! Prices for parts were dead on (trust me I researched them beforehand) and labor was a typical days worth. But beyond all that is Raymond and his wife's service. They are wonderful and helpful people. They will take the time to make sure you understand what the problem is and offer you the best solution. Raymond even took me on a test drive with him and we ended up driving all through Silverlake talking about cars and how he used to race Ferrari's heh! But yes, this is definitely an A+ establishment that comes highly recommended. read more

I don't see why everyone gives this place such good reviews, except that people seem to be so floored by their "we are here for you, we care about you" rhetoric. That's great that they say this, but... I sat down with the clerk at Radi's and explained a problem I had--the hose had popped off the radiator while driving. I told her a broken fan clutch was making it overheat. The guy from the other room interrupted, piping in "you need a new radiator!" I asked why, and he said the pipe is coming off because the grooves are worn down. I thought that sounded fishy because I didn't think there were grooves on the end of the radiator at all. So I said: "just take a look at it for me." I get a call about 30 minutes later from the clerk and she said "yea he checked it out and you need a new radiator." I asked why? She told me the mechanic would call me back, and I just went up there. I got there and the mechanic pointed to the radiator-the end that was covered by the hose, and told me it was broken...I said, "take the hose off and show me." He removed the hose, and guess what? NOT BROKEN AT ALL!!!! I looked at him, and he just played dumb, like "huh, I guess you don't need a new radiator." So these people are either stupid, dishonest, or both. They wanted to replace my perfectly good radiator with another one. And I don't really know about cars, so normally I would just say OK, but I had just had this car inspected by my mechanic who is a personal friend, so I was curious about how they could tell me I needed a new one. Thank god I made him take the hose off and show me where he claimed it was broken. So then, he kept telling me other reasons why my car could have overheated...this and that could be broken. I said, "look, I know that my fan clutch is broken, so that is what I want you to replace." He said, "fine we'll do it your way". My check engine light had also come on, and the clerk gave me a lecture about buying a car without warranty, buying a high mileage car, blah blah blah, saying, "you're not going to like what we tell you, but that is what we are here for-to take care of you" --more rhetoric. I told her that I had already had the codes run (for free by Sengs down the street) and that I think it's just the gas cap. I asked her if she would just reset the light and I could see if it came on again. She told me that would cost $60, just to reset the engine light!!!! This is a 2 minute job. So I took my car down the street to Sengs auto, who gladly reset it for me for free. Check engine light has not come back on...lol it was the gas cap like I suspected. I guess she wouldn't reset it so she could get her trusty mechanic to tell me I needed a new engine too! LOL. These people are not that great. Don't let them tell you things are wrong that are not actually wrong. Again, the good reviews I read seem to just be impressed by their friendliness and their "we are here for you" rhetoric. Not good enough for me. In all fairness...they were friendly...but they were also weirdly pushy too. I gave them 2 stars instead of 1 because, they did replace my fan clutch and it works fine now (although they charged $200 for the part, and this is a HUGE markup. I wish I would have researched a little before I had them replace this for me. Hope this helps. read more
