They have a great variety of fitness and technique classes too. Great dance studio near union square! They have a wide variety of dance classes, spanning the gamut of dance fitness and dance technique. I just stopped by here to try a Cardio Jam class. Was a pretty good workout! Class started with various warm ups, some of which had a fitness vibe, and some were more dancer oriented. The teacher usually taught choreo, and so the class did have a couple of breaks focused more on the choreo than a typical cardio jam class. Overall it was a good mix of workout and learning. Class kind of moved in pulses of intensity which was helped me catch my breath. Things to know. Place is on Mason St. You go in the building and then have the choice of stairs or elevator up to the 7th floor. There was a receptionist doing check ins, and then there are I think 2 different studios to go into. There is a small waiting room with small cups of water, and you can hang your stuff on some coat hooks. Pretty no frills in and out in terms of amenities, so would recommend to travel light, wear your fitness clothes, and bring water. Also come a couple min early to account for the elevator. read more

Salsa class on Thursdays by Ava and Rodolfo. I've been attending Ava and Rodolfo's salsa class for a while now. I love that their classes begin with practicing shines I keep going back because I like their attention to details and focus on fundamentals. They give individual attention to each person in the class. I love that! They are very patient. They break down concepts that are complicated and feel overwhelming into simple and easy steps. First impressions are so important and Rae Studios did everything right. Before my initial class, I was greeted by friendly host Risa, who showed me around the studio and made me feel most welcome. The Beginner's Hip Hop class was taught by Tashi and it was perfectly paced for an entry level dancer. Tashi patiently broke down all the moves and gave us the names and history behind each one as she pieced them together in a fun choreography combo. I have since became a full member and have explored many dance styles I never thought I would practice. Rae Studios has made me grow my confidence as a dancer in a non-judgmental and supportive environment. I'm so happy I found Rae Studios!!! I moved to the city from the East Bay at the end of 2021 and was looking around trying to find a place that offered dance classes, particularly heels. I initially came for the heels class, but I'm now finding myself taking classes almost every single day of the work week!! Thank you Rae Studios for adding Inez's beginner/intermediate hip-hop class to the line-up. There is so much to love about this class. Inez' energy is unparalleled. Her music and choreography are always so fun and creative while being accessible to beginners. Through her classes you get to practice so many skills while having a blast. She packs a lot of content into her class which helps you practice how to retain and remember moves. She really choreographs to the music, the beats, the lyrics, so you get to practice musicality. I actually love that she tends to do "ba ba BA" instead of 8-counts because I think it helps hone that musicality. She is detail-oriented and manages to observe everyone while dancing to see what needs refinement. She teaches the same choreography two weeks in a row which gives you a chance to review and improve your movement. It begins with learning and practicing foundational movements that progresses to shines and turn patterns. I like how they observe and provide feedback to each student individually. I attended Rae Studios for the first time for their ALL LEVELS Zumba class. The instructor immediately jumped into dancing EXTREMELY quickly, with no direction or pauses or explanations. I was struggling to keep up, so I went outside and let the front desk girls know. I asked if the teacher could be more accommodating since I couldn't follow along at all, and they told me "if you can't keep up, then sit on the couch and just watch". What kind of response is that? A class should be accommodating to ALL patrons, especially an ALL LEVELS one. Especially when your studio literally states it "WELCOMES ALL LEVELS". I then asked if there's another class I could take instead that I would be more comfortable in, and they mockingly told me there's a level 2 class. I eventually left because I was so frustrated, couldn't actually participate in the class, and after speaking to TWO of the workers there, was not accommodated at all. I don't recommend this studio at all. It's not welcoming, accommodating, accessible, or friendly. I'm so disappointed with my experience here. read more

I often take the intermediate Salsa class with Ava and Rodolfo. Once you have a good knowledge of the basics, these classes will give you the technique, patterns, and key dance principles needed to prepare you for social dancing. They cycle through several weeks of key movements, adjust the class to fit that nights dancers, and are very good at giving individual feedback to everyone. There's time at the end to make a practice video, and usually one last song to try that night's or a previous night's moves. read more

I took the Salsa "class" with AVA twice and she managed to TAKE THE FUN OUT of dancing. Her way of "teaching" is HORRENDOUS, constantly looking down on her students to the point it's uncomfortable. She only plays salsa for less than 20% of the class, so you dance to utter silence most of the class. read more

It's in a great location, the room we were in was spacious, fun, clean and had all the amenities we were looking for in hosting our offsite. Diamond was an incredible contact during the entire process, from beginning to end. Favorite place in SF! I moved to the city from the South Bay just to be able to come here for dance classes as often as possible. The studio is beautiful, bright and clean! Since the moment you enter you feel the energy from Diamond, Bar, Alexis and everyone, welcoming you with a great smile and being always very friendly, helpful and supportive! Also the teachers are amazing! On Mondays I take beginner hip hop with Lexi and Afro Dance with Danaite. Both of them are incredible! They are so knowledgeable (not only about dance technique, but also about foundation and history), so energetic and positive. They always motivate us to find our own style and show our own personality, and they make us students feel very confident and safe while doing so! Love it. On Tuesdays I take power barre and pop jam with Jessica, and then Brazilian pop with Leo. Wowwww! Jessica (CEO and founder of the studio) is not only one of the most talented dancers I've ever seen, but she is so powerful and tenacious. To me she is like a coach everybody should have, always making sure we show up as the best versions of ourselves. Leo is the perfect combination between an amazing dancer, a great teacher, a very kind person! It is impossible to go to his class and not end up with a huge smile, already hoping for the next class! On Fridays I have taken heels with Natalie and Jordy, and twerk with Jazmine. Uffff!! They are so feminine, so empowered, so harmonic, so beautiful! And they magically manage to transmit this to us students. I feel like a goddess every time I finish their classes! I am so grateful for this studio and can't wait to take classes with all the other teachers, that I know are just as great as everything and everyone at Rae Studios! read more

There's no excuse anymore! During the pandemic you don't even have to leave your house. Heck, you don't even have to turn your camera on. I've loved every class I've taken. My favorites have been Bollyx with Shruthi, cardio jam with Jeremy, and zumba with Jeannie. They are all super upbeat, positive, talented instructors. But the Bollywood dancing, though! Since the pandemic started, I've tried Bollywood and Bhangra dancing classes with about 10 different instructors at a few different places in the Bay Area, and this one is the most non-stop upbeat, intense fun. It's the most fun I've ever had working out and I'm more sore the next day than after pilates or lagree classes. There are over 50 classes on the virtual schedule. Virtual classes are $10 or $14 for more than one person in the same household. There are also $15 classes that feature something special. Booking through the MindBody app has been really convenient and if you cancel in time, you can use the credit for another class. read more

About 3 years ago, Rae Studios changed my life. Sounds dramatic, but it's true. Before moving to SF, I could count the number of times I hit the gym on one hand. Needless to say, once I got to the Bay, the fact that I did 0 exercising appalled my friends here. But I knew that for the sake of my health, I had to do SOMETHING. And here's what I did know: I loved dancing. So I decided to start there. I signed up for Class Pass and booked a class at Rae Studios called "Cardio Dance" (now reinvented slightly as "Cardio Pop"). I was a little intimidated when I arrived. Everyone had their cute gear on and seemed to know what they were doing. But the instructor at the time (Allie and now the awesome Tiffany!) was really helpful, breaking down steps, and telling everyone that sweating was what mattered! 1 class turned into 2, which turned into an unlimited dance membership, and now a workout schedule I wouldn't be able to live without! For the first time ever, I shed some of my baby fat. From my regular workouts at Rae alone, I shaved a good 7 pounds off of my average body weight. Plus, I now have muscles I never had before. Who'd have thought? Thanks a billion to Jess and all the amazing instructors + staff at Rae!! I'm so grateful to be a part of the community. In case it's helpful, here's how I think about the classes I've taken: --Cardio Jam with Jeremy: super fun cardio class with weights and dances that are broken down step-by-step (stacking, I think?). Sweaty, but worth! --Cardio Pop with Tiffany: my favorite! This is the class that started it all. All your favorite pop songs with follow-the-leader style dances. Book early though, cause the class fills up. --Hip Hop Abs+ with Jessica: this one will kick your butt!! One of my weekly faves, since you'll go from sweet choreo to ratchet dance routines and weights (think: Lil Nas X with rope wielding weight moves). This is another one that books up, so book quickly. --Zumba with Jeannie/Kevin: Jeannie and Kevin have different approaches to Zumba, but they're both the most warm and positive human beings you'll come across! Jeanne's class is more chill and easygoing, Kevin's is more ratchet and upbeat. So just depends on what you're feeling like :) --BollyX with Shruti: another butt kicker!! Shruti will get you leaping and dancing your way through bollywood jams! Lots of sweat expected! read more

I've been going to classes at Rae's for over a month and can't begin to express what a positive experience it has been from day one. I was initially intrigued by the variety of classes (dance of all kinds, cardio-focused dance, yoga, plus classic fitness) and after dropping in to one class (Dancehall Grooves with Libby) I immediately signed up for an unlimited membership. I now try to go every day after work, Mon-Fri, often staying for two or three classes in a row. I've never formally danced a day in my life (does toddler ballet count?) and I've always considered myself an abysmal dancer, nor was I in any kind of shape. In just over a month I've had the chance to practice hip-hop, modern dance, jazz, dancehall, and Zumba (not a "style" per se but it's certainly a blend of many). As an added bonus, I get to supplement those with yoga, which I have done on and off over the years. You couldn't ask for a more supportive environment. Every instructor is so passionate about what they do and the level of energy, warmth, and welcome they bring to every single class feels superhuman. I love that the studio attracts people of all levels and backgrounds. Some of the people in class have clearly been dancing for years and it's inspiring to watch. If you're like me, you're just relieved to have found a judgment-free place to attempt to train your spazzy, uncoordinated limbs into doing something others might actually recognize as "dance". I love the way the studios are decorated, with the living wall, large mirrors, and the fun lighting for after-dark classes. I really appreciate that they usually have some kind of fruit sitting around. Sometimes there's even freshly cut melon or pineapple with toothpicks! Shoutouts to the fantastic instructors I've had the pleasure of taking weekly classes from: Jeannie, J.J., Jeremy Jones, Jordan, Tiffany, and Libby. I've only been to Rae Studios twice. My first time was taking J. Ghera's Strut Heels Class and it was such a great experience - very informative and quite technical! J. taught me the basics (most importantly) - how to properly walk with heels and strike a pose with attitude! And now, I no longer struggle with walking in heels even at the end of the day / evening. My absolute favorite dance studio of all times!! The new studio that opened this year is just BEAUTIFUL - the fresh, modern, cute (and totally instagrammable) design just makes you feel right at home and I want to try all the classes! I have taken so many already and have to say I love all of them so far! Try hip hop abs with Jessica if you want to shake your booty and have a ton of fun while getting a great workout in. Pop jam and beginner/advanced hip hop classes are super fun if you want to learn some cool choreo and feel like you're in a music video - I can't wait to try JJs hip hop class (only taken his heels class so far and that was booomb). I also looove Libby's dancehall classes, she has the most positive energy and I always leave this class feeling amazing - good vibes for sure! They also offer more yoga classes now since they added the new studio which is great for stretching and relaxing. What I love most about this place is the insane amount of variety they offer in classes. I bought the monthly membership and am all set for whatever I feel like doing for my workout - they have everything from cardio, bootcamp, hiit and body toning classes to dance (from ballet, jazz to hip hop) and pilates and yoga! The atmosphere in the studio is also super welcoming, positive and friendly and whenever I come in the crew is greeting me with a smile. I have never experienced that in any other gym or dance studio! All the teachers are amazing too - they push you but also just want everyone to have a good time, so nobody is judging you if you don't get the choreo right or do modifications for some exercises. I would definitely recommend checking it out, trying different classes and teachers and see what you like best and what works for you and your schedule. Fitness goals - beyond achieved!! Getting the unlimited pass at Rae Studios was the best fitness decision I have EVER made! My fitness goals from March 2019 were to lose thigh fat (I lost 1.5 inches on each thigh), have a flatter stomach (I lost 2 inches around my waist), and learn new dance styles (hip hop and dancehall). I used to dread working out after a long day at work, but the variety of classes and level of enthusiasm here is through the roof!! The classes I've taken are Hip Hop Abs, Dancehall, HIIT, Drenched, Cardio Jam, Barre, Zumba, Cardio Kickboxing, and a private dance class for my birthday taught by Jessica. The quality of instruction is impeccable and no class is ever exactly the same. The instructors genuinely care about their students and are always switching up their workouts. It's refreshing! Jessica has this charming ability to push me beyond anything I thought I was physically capable of - surviving back to back double workouts, dancing in the front row of a sold out class, and unknowingly smiling through a class while I'm actually dying from exhaustion inside. Don't ever yawn in Libby's Dancehall class because she WILL see you. She's in tune with every single student and will personally come help you 'get that move.' Libby's voice projects louder than anyone I've ever heard wearing a mic and she has the same incredible energy at the beginning of class as at the end of class. I don't even know how that's possible since she does the entire workout with us. Thank you for making fitness one of the most enjoyable parts of my day. It's hard to summarize what Rae Studios has done for me as a person. I'm healthier, happier, more confident, and most importantly I gained a fit fam that I'm eternally grateful for! read more

If you're an overworked professional and need an escape, I suggest you go to Rae Studios for a dance class. I took the hip hop abs class on a whim on Saturday morning and Jessica took all the stresses away with the awesome choreography, up to date music (Ariana Grande 7 rings set was perfect and nostalgic for this Sound of Music fan) and warm and genuine camaraderie. Everyone was happy to be there and I saw myself looking at the clock not wanting class to end (usually it is the opposite at hot yoga or spin). The kids that check you in are nice and cute and the studio is in a great location near Union Square. And the studio is gorgeous and thoughtfully laid out and designed. Close your eyes and imagine this for a second: It's 5:30am, your alarm goes off, and you reluctantly crawl out of bed. You bend down to stretch, but remember that you can't touch your toes. Actually, your hamstrings seize up right around when your hands reach your shins. This isn't a rare occurrence. This is the reality of your life! You've tried stretching on your own but, well, that ain't really happenin'. Your girlfriend is insisting that you join a gym but...ain't nobody got time for that! And EVERY time you try to "get into yoga", the class is too fast, the room is too crowded, and you get left behind on the opening child's pose. Why oh why can't there just be a place for average guys like you to enjoy a relaxed, instructional yoga session on your way into work in the morning? Isn't there somewhere where the instructors take the time for you to "get" each pose and there aren't a bunch of ninja yogis bouncing around leaving you in their dust? And why on earth does a 1-hour yoga class have to cost $30 in FiDi?? If you've read this far, then it's time to open your eyes (wait...what?) and take a deep breath - you've found the answer you've been looking for! I had the best yoga/stretching experience of my life this morning and feel compelled to tell the world about it. It was the first time where I felt like I was taking a yoga class designed for ME: inflexible, beginner, not looking for a work-out but eager to gain flexibility and mindfulness. I just started going to this studio for a high cardio dance class. The location is great, right off union square, and the staff are very friendly. I used to go to this class at Club One (Fillmore Center) and it was cancelled for a while as the ownership of the gym transferred to Fitness SF. I was excited to find out that the class has moved here. It's such a great workout. My only problem with the studio is space. For a class with more than 10 people, it gets a bit too crowded (especially when you are all moving around)... read more

This place is amazing! So far I tried the barre and abs express, both with Jessica, and she's my most favorite instructor rn. The studio itself is super clean, they have scented candles in the locker room, a water machine and on my first class they were handing apple slices out (say whaaa)!!
