He's from New Jersey, I'm from the deep South, & we're buying a home in Tennessee together. We stopped in Kingsport for the night & Raffaele's was near our hotel. The pizza here is AMAZING!! We both agree that it's the BEST either of us has tasted in decades, in ANY part of the country! When working in the Kingsport area I always get the same lunch to go from here cause I grew up on this place and love it. But today was a let down, $12.60 for sub and fries and that $1 extra for the ranch I dip my fries in. Well, I got my lunch to go and open it up to find 7 fries. Really! That's the best part. I was so mad, it looked like someone had a few before I picked it up. Food is always good, building clean and high priced. Try the meatballs too they are amazing. We placed a carry out order for shrimp marsala and a calzone. The order was ready on time. Calzone was good, but the shrimp marsala was totally unacceptable. The shrimp used was frozen breaded, rather than sauteed, and the mushrooms were from a can. The sauce was horrible to top off this disaster. This is one of the pricier entrees, so I expect a little better than the mess in a box that we were given. I wish I had thought to take a picture, but I just tossed it in the trash. We have been long time customers for both dining in and carry out. We have reasonable expectations. If they were out of regular shrimp, they could have called to let us know and we would have gladly chose something else from the menu. I decided to call the restaurant the next day to make the manager/owner aware (just incase they care about food quality). Staying over night at one of the hotels on our way to Memphis. Checked out the Yelp site for a place to eat. Red the reviews for Raffael's and it sounded good. We split a calzone and a small pizza both were delicious and the sauce was excellent. Everyone was friendly and our waitress was excellent and couldn't do enough for us. An Italian restaurant that doesn't serve wine! Need I say more?! Between all of us in the party, we tried Stromboli, pasta, chicken parmigiana, salad and meatball sub. Meatballs were good, salad had a lot of great ingredients (but salad dressings were average), and the rest was average. Service was at best average as well. Overpriced on the entrees when you have to add $4 for a salad. The only reason we might return would be to try the pizza. read more

Stopped into Raffaele's on a long drive home. My boyfriend and I shared a large thin crust pepperoni and black olive pizza, a bowl of the roasted veggie soup and a couple of local beers. The pizza was huge (we ended up taking half of it with us). It had a nice flavor but was a little greasy for my tastes. The soup was good, not great. The beers were served with chilled mugs, which was a nice touch. Our server was very nice and service was fast. Have eaten here a few times and always had excellent food. I like the Angel Hair pasta instead of regular sized spaghetti pasta and they accommodate my wishes. The only iffy comment is I wish they would put more sauce on the spaghetti; however if you like more sauce (as I do) , just ask for it in advance. I will definitely eat there often! read more

My son and I stopped by today just after 1pm. This was our second visit to this restaurant. My son ordered the chicken Alfredo and I chose the chicken Parmesan. The chicken Alfredo looked like it was a couple of days old, no garnish, ample chicken that was oddly colored and the sauce looked dried out. We tasted it and both remarked that it tasted odd for an Alfredo. (I should mention that this dish is the dish of choice for the son when we decide on Italian so he knows his Alfredos.) I couldn't put my finger on it until just a moment ago. Bingo! It tasted exactly like the tuna noodle casserole served in the high school cafeteria. As for the chicken Parmesan, very little spaghetti, the chicken tasted like it was fried in old oil, complete with black bits of previously fried food stuck to the chicken's breading. The tomato sauce was very bland, no seasoning was apparent even after dumping on a spoonful of garlic powder from a container on the table. The meals were served with two dinner rolls, one for each of us. The traditional pre-entree side salad was not Included with the meal however. We normally don't balk at paying prices such as those stated in the menu. But, for a meal that we felt was lacking overall, it was over priced and not very good Italian cuisine.
